Politics / Victim Of Police Brutality: Assistance Required by EasyWare(m): 12:53pm On Oct 16, 2013
Dear friends,

This is to introduce to you our social justice project called: Justice-Nigeria. We have been working hard on it - but we have faced some hiccups and setbacks of the kinds that are unique to Nigeria (I leave this part to your imagination). Update on our first case is that we have interviewed the main parties involved. We are currently working on the post production. This video is an extract. Our next steps are: (1)We are trying to raise some money for Haji's treatment and to assist her children (2) We are trying to get some legal assistance for her (3) We will be pursuing the government officials some kind of compensation and assistance with her treatment. The police and government officials have so far ignored her, but we are certain that if this case is given widespread publicity, they will be forced to do something. (4) As part of our publicity drive, we will target all means of publicising this case including through Nigerian and foreign Television channels.

Please like our new Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/justiceng) and spread the word to all your friends and associates. Please donate: go to http://www.justice-ng.org/donate_jus.php. Please let us know of any non-financial assistance you can give to this and any other case we are dealing with. Perhaps there are lawyers amongst you who can help? Perhaps there are people amongst us who have powerful contacts in the Nigerian police force and/or in the Niger state government?

Please, please, please we need any and every assistance that we can get. This is just one of the many cases that we will be dealing with, so you can imagine how stretched we are….

We are looking for researchers and data inputters to collate data for our social justice web site "Justice Nigeria" (http://www.justice-ng.org/). In order to kick-start our services, we want to populate the web site with recent, known cases of rights abuses across the country.

Please visit the site, to see our various categories and sample entries. Most of the information that we want already exists on the internet, social media and traditional new media in Nigeria. All that we require in the initial stages are for researchers to collate this information, enter them onto our database and provide - where relevant - a clear summary of and the current status of the case.

In the initial stages of the work, all contact between us and the researches will be online. Researchers are expected to be responsible for their own equipment: computers, Internet connection etc. All researchers must have very good command of written and spoken English and relevant qualifications and/or experience.

The research job is only a part-time or freelance basis, not a full-time role. We expect that researcher will do the job in their spare time - one or two days a week. Those who contribute diligently will be retained for future work.

Million Nigerian March To Abuja - Please Support Us

The Million Nigerian march is organising a March from Lagos to Abuja. We plan to get people from every walk of life involved - from well-known personalities to "area boys". We will pack our blankets and water bottles and we will trek all the way to Abuja, stopping at each and every town along the way to hold a rally for the inhabitants of the town. Our message will be one of change in Nigeria. Our slogan will be "enough is enough".

* We will be recruiting the villagers in our mass movement to change Nigeria once and for all
* We will be educating the people that the government is there TO SERVE US, not to lord it over us
* We will be educating the people on how to use civil disobedience as an effective tool to combat bad governance.
* We will be teaching the people how to challenge every excess, every abuse, every waste
* We will explain them the dangers of condoning mediocrity and duplicity!
* And we will listen to their problems and concerns - and take them with us to Abuja.

Enough is enough! We are tired! No more, no more, no more! We cannot afford to be silent anymore. Evil triumphs because good people do nothing.

My friends, the time has come. We cannot lose the momentum. Please join the group here: http://www./marchtoabuja OR http://www.marchtoabuja.com and pass the message to your friends. We are trying to get 100,000 signatures - including Facebook members. Thank you.

The winds of change are blowing across Nigeria. There is no better opportunity than now to tell our political class that "enough is enough". Enough of corruption; enough of wastage; enough of poverty; enough of criminality and enough of the daily abuse of Nigerians.

This is no longer about the fuel subsidy; nor is it about Goodluck Jonathan. It is about the entire political class that has failed us and continues to fail us. We must not lose the momentum started by the fuel subsidy demonstrations. We must not fail our children like our parents failed us. I am inviting you to help change Nigeria.

The Nigerian front is a group of friends who have been working for change for Nigeria. We have decided that one of the best ways to push our message to the politicians is to organise a Million Man March from Lagos to Abuja. We plan to get people from every walk of life involved - from well-known personalities to "area boys". We will pack our blankets and water bottles and we will trek all the way to Abuja, stopping at each and every town along the way to give a speech and rally to the inhabitants of the town. Our message will be one of change in Nigeria. Our slogan will be "enough is enough".

We have already begun talking with organisations within and outside Nigeria to help with the logistics of this event, but the most important organisations that we need are you, my fellow Nigerians. We hope that the march will guarantee global coverage and support for our struggle. At the same time, we will make it as "grass-roots" as possible by taking it to the villages. We hope it will kick-start an irreversible momentum for change in Nigeria.

The aim of this group is to facilitate this march. We want to get your views to this plan. We want your contributions as to how best we should go about this. We want to speak to people who are willing and able to join us  ,

The plan is to walk, sing and talk by the day and sleep in the fields by night. It would be good to have you all on the march with us but those who cannot actively join may offer any assistance that you can - ideas, legal help, space on your field or school for us to sleep, a bus with water, medical supplies, free blankets, prayers, musicians and performers to raise our spirits during the march,  anything to ease our load,

For those who choose to walk with us, you do not have to walk the entire journey. You are welcome to join in and leave as and when you please. But I hope many of us will go the distance.

Please show your support by signing up to our Facebook group: http://www./309094912459339/. Invite you friends. Post your comments on the group.

God bless Nigeria.

MILLION NIGERIANS' MARCH TO ABUJA

A group of friends are trying to promote a million man march from Lagos to Abuja. We plan to get everyone involved - from well known personalities to area boys - trekking all the way to Abuja, but stopping at each and every town along the way to give a speech/rally to the inhabitants of the town.

This sort of action will guaranty global coverage and support, will make the movement even more grass-roots - if this is possible - and will probably kick-start an irreversible momentum for change.

We are sounding out people's opinions before taking the plunge. Please let us know your feelings on this. Those with Facebook accounts please go to:

Science/Technology / Re: Nigerian Software Exchange by EasyWare(m): 11:33am On Feb 16, 2010
Hi Ajanlekoko,

Thanks for your message. Yes, it is a shame that there are hardly any replies to the post. If you look at titles like
"Can You Forgive Your Wife If She Delivers Another Man's Baby?" OR "Brother-In-Law Slaps Wife" you will see that they have many responses. There is nothing wrong with people liking mundane stuff, but surely we should get a few serious people in Nairaland, Maybe we will have to start our own forum. Watch this space.

"Software Exchange", no, the name might sund cnfusing, but it had nothing to do with exchanging software. It is just a whole project to develop Nigeria's software industry and in the process help develop the country as a whole.
We have our site up and running now. Check us out at: www.software-ng.com

@Akenzua:

You said: "I do not see how starting a group will benefit Nigeria - rather we need experience programmers to develop robust software that can compete globally with Indian and Chinese equivalents, " well, that is exactly what the group is trying to do! Please read the groups aims before condemning it!

"I have not installed your software but it seems you are trying to sell a product rather than start a group , " there is a commercial [as well as social] element to this. We have not denied it. Again please read the group before you make judgement. As a matter of fact, that is just one of the many software projects we are launching.

In any case, i am not surprised by your comments. History shows that whenever someone comes up with a noble idea, there are always naysayers and doubting Thomases waiting to bring the person down.

That notwithstanding, I remain undeterred in my goal.
Science/Technology / Nigerian Software Exchange by EasyWare(m): 8:26am On Jan 29, 2010
OK guys, here's the deal:

We are a country of 150million people, yet we run to China for our basic software needs.

We have large groups of jobless area boys roaming our cities, yet we outsource out IT work to barely literate Indian developers.

The biggest irony of this is that there are many excellent Nigerian software developers working in other countries all over the world.

Software development is not just some vague activity carried out by anti-social geeks in darkened rooms. It affects every facet of our lives and helps improve our lives immeasurably.

Without a robust software industry, Nigeria will remain underdeveloped. However, If India can build a powerful software industry in a few years, Nigeria can do the same. But the work has to start here - with people like you and me.

I hope we can start a group/organisation which will to help develop a strong Nigerian Software industry. Please try to join and support the group or pass this information on to a friend who might find it useful.

The aims of the group will be:

- To help develop the Nigerian Software Industry.
- To give Nigerians the capability to meet it's own software requirements.
- To help create cutting-edge software specifically for the Nigerian market.
- To train, advice and mentor a new generation of software developers.
- To bring together Nigerian developers from all over the world.
- To marry good ideas with relevant software developers (some people have excellent ideas but not the ability to build the software)

If you think they should be modified or that I have omitted something important, feel free to suggest amendments.

This group aims to be both a commercial and social-economic tool. We hope that people active in this group would help create commercially profitable ventures while at the same time bringing jobs to Nigerians and technological development to the country.

Can I start the group by giving out a free copy of a Nigerian-based Human Resources Software product. This version is the "Lite" version and targets small companies (with staff of not more than 30). Please let me know if you are interested in the more powerful "Enterprise" versions, or any other software products that you think will be of use to Nigerians.

Hi all,
After many years working in the software business around the world, we have decided to move our services to Nigeria. We think the time is ripe for the move.

To this end, we have spent the last few months working on a number of software products directed at the Nigerian market. Our first offering is a Payroll and Human resource management software called 'EasyWare Human Resource Manager'. You may download an evaluation copy at: http://www.easyware-ng.com/human_resources.html.

We are looking to partner with software sales/marketing any organisations or individuals with a good understanding of the Nigerian market and good contacts within the software end-user market. Are there people on this forum who can point us in the right direction?

Thanks

davidyland@yahoo.com: "Welcome to London - u go soon tire."

Sorry to disappoint you, davidyland, but I have lived in London for 20 years. Again, it helps not to make baseless assumptions.
Travel / Re: Nigerian Passport: Married Women Need Husband's Permission! by EasyWare(m): 9:53pm On Nov 04, 2007
Predido: To answer the second part of your question, ie: Why will they recognise a marriage done in Anglican church but not the one done in catholic church or mosque? Wating for your explanation.

This is an easy one. You are completely mistaken. UK law does not care whether you are married in Anglican Church or Catholic Church or Buddhist temple. Please get your facts right. All those are simply personal ceremonial. The only thing that UK law recognises is that marriage registry signed and witnessed by the appropriate state official. The church or mosque side of the wedding has nothing to do with law. It is a personal option. If you do it but do not sign the registry, it will not be recognised by the law.

Frankly I am tired of this. The argument will not go this far of people get their facts right before posting.

Of course religious laws still affect some parts of society - that is simply due to historical reasons - there was a time when religion dominated state. But like the Sunday trading laws - they are gradually being changed.
Travel / Re: Nigerian Passport: Married Women Need Husband's Permission! by EasyWare(m): 9:40pm On Nov 04, 2007
Presido: It is true that religious law USED TO determine Sunday trading laws in England. Buy does that mean it was correct So if it happens in England, then it is correct

You see, the Sunday trading laws was a very old law (the same kind of law that stopped women voting). It was instituted a the when Religious leaders had real power in the UK. But if you follow current trends, you will see that more than a year ago, UK Parliament ended this the no-trading on Sunday law. One of the arguments for ending it was that it was that it is just plain wrong to allow religious dogma to determine how everyone lives. They said if it is your religion not to work on Sunday, then don't work, but don't stop those who want to work from working. So even the British Government realised that it was stupid law and changed it! This is the kind of thing we should be doing in Nigeria: Changing stupid laws.

Also, I agree that there is no equality between women anywhere in the world - including the UK. But does that make it right The fact is that while some countries (like the UK) are making great strides to make the society a fairer place for women, some people are still trying to keep us in the stone ages.
Travel / Re: Nigerian Passport: Married Women Need Husband's Permission! by EasyWare(m): 7:19pm On Nov 04, 2007
I am not normally one of those who writes in these newgroups - I just haven't got the time. I was searching for some information regarding Nigerian passports and came across this thread. I am amazed about the backwardness of some of the posters! Had this been a village discussion, it would have been easier to understand. But we are talking about people who have regular access to the Internet, who are almost certainly educated and knowledgeable. Man, the mind boggles!

I have only read a few responses, and that is enough for me. I will only reply to some of the few I read:

(1) presido1 said: "If it is written in Bible, Koran and even Traditional Religion recognised it, "

My response: What has that religion got to do with state? Is religion not a personal thing? Supposing the woman does not believe in any religion or faith? Or is it now a requirement to have faith in order to get a Nigerian passport?

(2) davidyland@yahoo.com said: "goats - when they live abroad - they can't criticise any actions of the government where they live - they obey without lifting a finger, but when it is their country - they bark like goats."

My response: Quite the opposite, in my experience. The way the police, government and small-time officials run roughshod over the poor man's right in Nigeria is unbelievable. Even with the presence of racism, my rights are much more respected in this country than they were ever respected while I was in Nigeria. As Fela would say: "Policeman slap you for road, you no go fit talk!"

By the way, goats don't bark.

My response: This, I found quite laughable! Do you realise that in many European countries not too many years ago, women required their husband's permission to get a passport? Here in the UK, women were not even allowed to vote until February 6, 1918. Women were regarded as less intelligent than men - we are talking about 20th century Europe! There are women alive in England today who were not allowed to vote when they were young. Have you heard of the women's suffrage movement? Please educate yourself before you start making such posts. Women DIED fighting for their rights in this country - and indeed all over Europe and America. There is nothing European about this passport issue. It is simply one of common-sense - and common-sense is not the preserve of any culture.

Look, every society started backward. We all started in Caves. Some are progressing while others have been lagging behind. I suppose it if was still up to you, we will be killing twins in parts of Nigeria "because it is our African culture"! We would not be writing or using this Internet because we would be going backwards by copying European,
