If MachineX can produce 1,000 bolts in 4 hours and Machine Y can produce
1,000 bolts in 5 hours, in how many hours can Machines X and Y,working together at these
constant rates, produce 1,000 bolts?

I tried this and obtained approximately 2hrs.
Solution:
Rate of bolt production for Machine x = 1000/4 =250blts per hour
Rate of bolt production for machine y = 1000/5= 200bolts/hr

AVERAGE BOLT PRODUCTION =[225+250]/2=225bolts/hr
Hours required for X ND Y to produce bolt = 1000\(225*2) =2hours 2mins.
I stand corrected though.[b][/b]
