CEPEJ cautions against use of military might

WARRI—SCHOOLS, both secondary and primary, as well as health centres, in Okerenkoko, Oporoza, Kurutie, Kunukunumam, Egboba, Benikurukuru, Egwa, Abitte, Tebijoh and other Ijaw communities in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State, have been forced to shut down following the over two-week siege to the riverine communities by soldiers hunting for pipeline bombers.

Teachers and health workers have also fled the communities and vowed not to return until peace returns to the kingdom. In addition, churches have also dispersed.

Also deserted were Okerenkoko Grammar School, Okerenkoko; Oporoza Grammar School, Oporoza and primary schools in all the mentioned communities, as well as health centres in Okerenkoko and Oporoza, the traditional headquarters of Gbaramatu Kingdom.

Four sick villagers collapsed at Opudebubor community on Friday, and there were no medical personnel to assist them because of the prevailing situation. Relatives of the victims tried to convey them to Warri more than 12 hours after the incident.

Meanwhile, residents of Sandfield I and 2, Ogbogbene and other Ijaw villages in Warri overside, Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, Ijaw People Development Initiative, IPDI, and Committee for Rural Development have raised alarm over indiscriminate shootings by security operatives in their areas.

Very Terrible Accident Happened This Morning in Okitipupa, Ondo State (See Graphic Photos)

Today, January 29th 2016; a regular motocyclist popularly know called Okadaman and his passenger who was a woman were hit by a car at New Garage, Okitipupa, Ondo state this morning.

The commercial motorcyclist (the one sitting on the floor in the picture above) survived. His passenger wasn't that fortunate as she was crushed to death on the spot beside the car.

An eye witness who also uploaded pictures from the incident revealed the driver of the vehicle also sustained injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The corpse of the late passenger was yet to be morgue as at the time of filing this report.

God help men who take the fighting or beating of their wife as a sport. Another case of domestic violence has been reported where a man brutalised his wife and ended up leaving her with a huge cut on her face.

The case was brought to public notice by Dr Joe Odumakin, who shared the photos of the bloodied woman and also mandated a lawyer working with her foundation, Women Arise For Change Initiative, to take the woman to the hospital for urgent treatment.

In a statement released by Odumakin, the woman recounted a pitiable history of domestic abuse...

The Nigeria Prisons Service has said that putting handcuffs on the National Publicity Secretary, PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh while appearing for his trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday was at the discretion of the prison officer, who supervised his court appearance.

The NPS spokesman, Francis Enobore, said the officer in charge of the escort that took Metuh to court was at liberty to determine if the inmate should be handcuffed based on security situation, the environment and intelligence report made available to him.

The Joint Task Force (JTF) has vowed to identify those responsible for the multiple armed attacks on strategic oil and gas pipelines in Delta State.

The Commander of the JTF, Major-General Alani Gafar Okunola, who led other military officers and men to some of the sites of the destruction yesterday, said the government would hold leaders of the communities where acts of sabotage take place responsible.

Speaking at the site of the destroyed Egwa 1 in Warri South-West, council area of Delta State, Gen. Okunlola described the recent resurgence of militant activities as unacceptable, vowing that those behind it would be brought to book.

At the site visited, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were used to bomb pipelines owned by the Nigerian Gas Company (NGC) and the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

Gen. Okunlola said: “The pipeline was blown up three days ago. We are going to fish out those responsible. It is a national sabotage and critical asset. There is no way we can fold our hands and allow the perpetrators to get away with it.”

Leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, (MEND), Chief Government Ekpemupolo a.k.a. Tompolo has dissociated himself from the reported attack on gas pipeline connecting gas from Escravos-Warri-Lagos-Abuja.

A suspect, Edet Asuquo, has revealed how he killed a pregnant woman for the purpose of using her foetus for rituals in Akwa Ibom state.

New Telegraph reports that the suspected assassin, who made the chilling confession at the Akwa Ibom state Police Command Headquarters, yesterday, January 13, said he was hired by a chief in Ikot Itu village.

The pregnant woman, whose name is yet to be ascertained, hailed from Ogoja in Cross River State and was described a very good ‘customer’ of her killer. Asuquo was arrested by the police on Monday, January 11, through the combined efforts of his brother and sister (names withheld) who reported the act to the police. It was gathered that the body of the deceased was found by the police at a nearby plantain farm.

Asuquo had lured the pregnant woman to the market to buy oysters and later took her home to get more of the oysters but instead murdered her and hid the body with the hope of removing the foetus for ritual. Nwawe said the suspect’s sister, who witnessed the act reported to her elder brother, who later alerted the police.

Asuquo, according to Police PRO, Cordelia Nwawe, was contracted by a chief in his village (name withheld) now at large, to kill the pregnant woman in order to remove her foetus for ritual. Nwawe explained that the suspect with four others, now at large, were each promised to be paid N50,000 by the chief for them to provide him with a foetus for ritual to enable him to win election into the village council.
