Just like you said, context is important in asserting whether something is applicable or not.

I would assume that you were quoting John 8:44 where the Devil was called a liar and the father of it. Let us consider contextually what progressed in that verse.

You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.

"....when he speaks a lie" - it may be fallacious to say that the Devil always lies (considering the context of the verse)

Let us look at the deceit you referenced that happened in Eden. We will start with what God said and juxtapose it with the serpent said.

Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

The areas highlighted shows us one of the lies that the serpent said. However, if we look at what the serpent said about the eyes opening, the outcome shows that the eyes of Adam and Eve were truly opened.

In John 10:10, we see that the thief comes to do three things:
1. Kill
2. Steal
3. Destroy

The Devil will employ truths and lies to achieve at least any or all of the three objectives of the thief above.

When I attempted to discuss the authority that the Devil may have had, it was done within the context of the temptation that Jesus Christ faced. For Jesus to have been tempted, the object of enticement had to be real.

Like you said, I may be right or wrong, which is very true. However, you and I can look at the context of the temptation and draw plausible conclusions on right or wrong.

I get you bro/sis. We may also need to consider what makes a temptation a temptation. If we conclude that all that the devil offered were non-existent because he is liar, then we may have to rethink whether Jesus was tempted at all.

The bible records that Jesus Christ was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the Devil (Luke 4:1). In James 1:14, the writer highlighted a major ingredient for a temptation to occur called, Human Desire.

The first enticement the tempter attempted was on Jesus Christ's desire for food. In Luke 4:2b, the bible records that Jesus was hungry. Jesus Christ's desire for food (hunger) was apparent, hence he could be tempted of food.

Jesus Christ's response in Luke 4:4 (..."it is written, 'Man shall not leave by bread alone, but by every word of God.'" shows that the bread was an option that was available to him.

The options in the other two instances where Jesus was tempted would have to be available for it to be a temptation. Hence, the Devil had to have had the kingdoms of this world to be able to entice Jesus Christ with the option.

Sheriff, who gave the apology at a media briefing in Jalingo on Sunday, said ``as a well cultured and astute politician, I would never make any comment that would ridicule the party.''

He added that it was not in his character to join issues with highly respected elders of the party, noting that he never authorised any of his aides or political associates to react to issues raised by aggrieved elders of the party.

He maintained that the battle for 2019 general elections had started in earnest, adding that the party could not afford to remain divided if the desired goal was to be achieved.
