Ya, you very close. wink
Take a look at the quick image i made below.

Assume, the blue, green and yellow are features for Gucci, Versace and D&G respectively.
And the grey point is the test data we need to classify.

Then as you can see from the second image above, the nearest neighbor in the dataset is green(Versace). And K=1 because we are assuming the first nearest neighbor is our classifier.

But when K=3, the data would be classified as yellow(D&G) since it has the highest nearest neighbor.

Finding Nearest Neighbor:
To find closest neighbor or closest distance we can use different distance metrics.
There are many distance metrics such as Cosine Similarity, Euclidean Distance, Mahattan Distance, Minkowski distance and so on.
Finding the right distance metrics to use is an issue on its own so i won't touch that now.

This is the mathematical formula for cosine similarity:

The python implementation is:

import numpy as np
def cosine_similarity(x, y):
dot_product = np.dot(x, y)
norm_x = np.linalg.norm(x)
norm_y = np.linalg.norm(y)
return dot_product / (norm_x * norm_y)

I'm not sure what programming language you use, but if you use Matlab or Octave then the above should also make sense to you.

Normalization is same as np.sqrt(np.sum(x**2)) or math.sqrt(sum(x**2))
x and y are your feature vectors.

For Euclidean Distance:
This is the formula:

Very simple and is the most used(at least from what I've observed so far).
The python implementation should be:
import numpy as np
def euclidean_distance(x,y):
return np.sqrt(np.sum((x-y)**2))

So the steps to write a K-Nearest Neighbor code from scratch are:
1) Get you data-sets X and y. (training features and test data)
2) Choose K. (Number of nearest neighbor to identify)
3) Using the test data write a function that calculates closest distance based on any distance metrics you choose and choose the group it belongs.
----That is get first distance value and also get whether it belongs to yellow, blue or green and continue.
----This depends on how your datasets is arranged, either in a dictionary or sublists or whatever.

4) Sort your result from lowest to highest distance.
5) then slice your result based on K.
----For instance is K =3, and your result is a list variabe. Code will be --> result[:K]

6) Then get the highest number of groups in the new variable.

7) And voila there you go.

I think with these you can implement the code yourself. wink

Parameter Optimization:
- The best value for K is usually determined by cross-validation. That is testing each value for K to get the optimal result.(this is computationally expensive but helpful though)
--- Generally the most used method is k = n^(1/2)

Distance metrics: well this is where statistical skill really come to play.

I didn't want to just write the complete code, but if you don't get the explanation i made while implementing your code you can quote me.

This lecture from MIT should also give you a better explanation.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eg8DJYwdMyg&t=404s

Thanks for the explanation. I am familiar with python, but I currently work with Javascript - nodejs. I hope we would be able to work together.

That's interesting...
I sure can help, but let me wait for da boss to log in.

Do you understand the concept behind KNN first of all?

I dont fully understand it as a whole, but I know that it has to do with plotting points on a graph. you also plot an unknown point (k) and find its nearest neighbours(usually odd : 3,5 for small data sets). The maximum neighbours matching k is the solution.

E.g. If there are 4 bags in a basket. 3 are branded gucci, versace, and D n G. The fourth is left unclassified. Our problem is to place a brand on the fourth bag.

We first look at the features of each bag - shape, size, leather, color, quality, firmness, tailoring seam. We use this data to plot a graph on an x, y coordinate system (We over simplify the problem set). Then, we get the features of the fourth bag and plot it on the same graph. We assume a number K and draw a line from 4th plot to k. The nearest neighbours along this line tells us which brand bag four belong to. Ideally, the number of bags will be more than four for this to work. I take corrections, please educate!

I am very much interested. I'll love to know how to write my very own KNN library from scratch. I hope someone can be able to put us through the supervised/unsupervised learning path.
Religion / Sermon : Condemnation by EbonyMira(f): 1:11pm On Nov 26, 2017
Condemnation(Mt7:1-2)
Christians, what exactly is condemnation?

By dictionary definition -
It can be defined as the act of condemning or pronouncing to be wrong; blame; disapprobation.
Condemnation is the lifestyle of the devil. He lives to condemn, and it is sad that Christians today condemn their brethren, the prostitute, the pastors....etc. The unbelievers condemn the church, and some Christians join them in condemnation. I cannot fault either, but one is doing it out of ignorance, the other, out of fear. Fear of being called 'pastors sympathizer', 'sheeple', or any other name that trends against Christians these days. Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. Don’t condemn your brethren because the trend today gravitates towards attacking Children of God and leaders in the church. By condemnation, I am not talking about the knowledge of good and evil, and the separation that comes thereof. I speak of condemnation unto death.

John 10:10 - The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance.

The distinction between Jesus(our Savior) and the devil(the accuser) is clearly made in this verse. The devil is capable of 3 things and everything he does is subjected to these 3 things.

Condemnation to steal: The devil robs us of our blessings by constantly condemning us to the Father. He steals from the children of God and give it to the children of darkness. Brethren, condemning another is helping the devil in his chores. Do not help the devil to steal from your neighbor.

Condemnation to kill: After the devil steals the blessings of Christians, he faults them before the Father, so they may perish is sickness, lack, accident and so many vices the devil cooks up to kill the children of God. The protective cover of God can be removed when your sin is made open before the Father. Just as Balaam taught Balak to set a trap for Israel, the children of darkness and many Christians today set a trap of Condemnation for their brethren. Faulting them in all their ways, knowing not what they do is evil before the sight of God.

Condemnation to destroy: The end game of the devil is utter destruction of souls loved by God and destined for eternal praise and reign with Jesus Christ our Lord. The devil steals, kills, so he can destroy. Destruction is a result of stealing and killing. Brethren, don’t let the devil use you in the act of condemnation.

Mind your speech against pastors and your brethren
Matthew 12:36-37
36But I tell you, on the day of judgment men will have to give account for every idle word they speak.
37For by your words you will be justified and acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned and sentenced.

The condemnation you speak unto others goes back to condemn you during judgement as we are not perfect in nature. The perfect one Himself judged not, so who are we to judge others? The devil has made it a habit to entice Christians to judge and condemn the church leaders. Cut off the head, and the body will be destroyed. That’s why I am not surprised when a half caste OAP preaches falsely against pastors and calls them ‘yahoo boy pastors’ while dining openly with millionaires with absolutely no disclosure of their wealth source.

Follow Jesus
He came so we may have life and have it in abundance.
John 3:16-17-
16For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He [even] gave up His only begotten Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in, clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but have eternal (everlasting) life.
17For God did not send the Son into the world in order to judge (to reject, to condemn, to pass sentence on) the world, but that the world might find salvation and be made safe and sound through Him.

Verse 16 shows us and explains what love is. Love is laying down ones life for another. God layed down his life for us his beloved so we can enjoy the riches in glory and escape destruction.

Verse 17 gives another distinction between Jesus and the devil. Jesus was sent to give life, the devil lives to condemn.

As Christians, we have to be Christ-like and embrace the love of God. We need to give out love and continually radiate it. Love God and Love others as you love yourself and that’s all the requirements you need for eternal reign. For God is love and any man who dwells in love dwells in God and God in him.

Who you are
Are you for God or the devil? Are you with God or the devil? If you are for God, then start acting like it and don’t let the devil use you as a tool in his lost battle against the children of God. Because we have the spirit of adoption to which we cry Abba father.

Jude 1:9
9But when [even] the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, judicially argued (disputed) about the body of Moses, he dared not [presume to] bring an abusive condemnation against him, but [simply] said, The Lord rebuke you!

The archangel Michael didn’t condemn the devil, but Christians today condemn pastors(sad).
The archangel Michael didn’t condemn the devil, but Christians today condemn their evangelists(sad).
The archangel Michael didn’t condemn the devil, but Christians today condemn prostitutes(sad).
The archangel Michael didn’t condemn the devil, but Christians today condemn fraudsters(sad).
The archangel Michael didn’t condemn the devil, but Christians today condemn Bishops(sad)….

Brethren, I beseech thee to live in love, build up thy holy faith and praise God continually. Leave condemnation for the devil. Whenever you are in the midst of people who condemn others, know that the devil is there, and flee!

Memory verse: Matthew 7:1-2

1DO NOT judge and criticize and condemn others, so that you may not be judged and criticized and condemned yourselves.l
2For just as you judge and criticize and condemn others, you will be judged and criticized and condemned, and in accordance with the measure you [use to] deal out to others, it will be dealt out again to you.

Prayer
1. Father, help me to love others the way you love me
2. Father, put your love in my heart. I want to understand a portion of your love for us.
In Jesus Name. Amen.

In simple terms, the files remains on the hard-drive. The pointer which leads to that same memory location gets reassigned. That's all. Other files can overwrite/merge with the file when assigned to the same memory location causing a mess during data recovery.

Computer science definitely has more calculations.
Science - is basically theories and proofs
Engineering - is science applied.

The calculations in chemical engineering has a degree of complexity to it.

I read someone's post associating 4X4 Matrix to chemical engineering. LOL

Computer science has complex maths o. You only see them at the PHD and Masters level. Most schools in Nigeria are BASICally outdated- Teaching FORTRAN and other dead languages.

When you go into AI- facial recognition- regression analysis - Application of eigen vectors and matrices in eigen faces to map out vertex point in a facial mesh. You'll know.

Education / Re: Eight (8) Reasons Every University Should Have A Startup Lab by EbonyMira(f): 10:27am On Apr 25, 2017
Truth is, Nigeria is lagging behind in everything technology. We don't need start up labs, we need well equipped engineering and science labs. We need research labs too. When it comes to ICT, Nigeria is not going anywhere. How many Nigerian projects are on github? How many stars do they get? It's sad, but true. Eventually, everyone resort to making money from adsense(a bit biased towards Nigerian). Last month Forbes released their new billionaires list, I saw some young men who created a payment processor 3 years ago. These guys are now billionaires. What happened to all the made in Nigeria payment processors? We need to clear our image before the world take us seriously, else we wouldn't see a billionaire come out of the Nigerian tech market in a decade or two

SMH. Let me help you here before this thing puts you in a real fix. Using thesaurus for writing is too tricky and because words can be synonymous on its own but mean a different thing when brought into context. For example when you used impertinent to describe that person, you were putting the person in a good light as impertinent is synonymous to cheeky, homorous but the real impudence is in the words: audacious, ballsy, bold, brash, brazen, disrespectful, forward, impertinent, insolent, insulting, nervy, saucy... I don't think you meant these things in your description. It is better to use simple words that drives home your message rather than try to sound smart and end up messing yourself.

PS: Those two words that we picked wasn't the only things wrong with your write-up, grammatically... Just trying to help here. No gimmick...

Good to know. Feel free to mention the other errors you noticed. I am not a well of knowledge.
