Angelfrost:
Your list shows you are truly well travelled! Kudos.

I will never understand why Delta and Imo are more expensive to live in compared to Lagos and Rivers.

Even Ogun state has far more industrial and revenue generating capacity than Imo, Ebonyi and Delta combined.
Ebonyi is very expensive to live in, the state capital Abakaliki mainly.

But surprisingly there's no insecurity in Abakaliki. People still keep up with it.

Food and drugs are cheap in Abakaliki.

You will cry about TRANSPORTATION AND RENT in Abakaliki. Just cost of transportation and cost of rent ONLY.

Cost of Transporting yourself in Abakaliki for a day is higher than travelling from Owerri to Port Harcourt inter-state.

Yet the Abakaliki is small and not wide. Though beautiful.

There is absolutely no justification for the top 3 being on that list...!

The cost of living in Imo and Ebonyi have absolutely no correlation with the commercial and industrial activities there.

That means such states will have a high occupation and prevalence of crimes.

TravelRe: Top 10 Most Expensive States To Live In Nigeria In January 2025 by Ebubu2:
Ebonyi State 2nd most expensive state to live in Nigeria is well deserved.

The major issue of Ebonyi state is transportation and housing.

Ebonyi State's transportation: the lack of commercial intra-state bus makes the capital Abakaliki to become very expensive to move around within.

Relying on bikes for movement within Abakaliki can see you pay 2,000 naira for a distance that would cost you 600 naira in Enugu just because Enugu uses bus mode of transport.

Introducing buses within Abakaliki is the solution, Govt can subsidise the operation of the buses if they're not churning enough money due to scarcity of human population in the Abakaliki town.

The Governor has hinted about introducing taxi in the capital, but I'm worried about the maximum capacity of cab being the same as keke.

A bus would be cheaper than taxi because bus lofts more people, about 9, can share the burden of transportation, compared to taxi which is maximum 6 if they were to be 4 in the back and 3 in the front including the driver.

As for the housing, agents and lawyers are the major problem. An ugly self con in the capital is about 400k to 450k, then 300 for renewal. While self con with neat tiles and POP can cost 600 to 1.2million naira, for a state of mostly civil servants and petty traders.

Ebonyi state government should hurriedly introduce their taxi system and build more housing systems hurriedly.

But there is a reason South East tops the chart; the over taxation of food items by police men from Lagos to South East is a major factor, added with bad road from Lagos to East.

Middle Belt is also far from Lagos port but they have it easier because the route from lagos to middle belt states like Kogi, Abuja et cetera is not plagued with security agencies collecting bribes compared to South East.

EDITORIAL:UNIZIK, Reconsider That Student's Expulsion

BY TONY OKAFOR

The recent expulsion of Miss Goddy-Mbakwe Chimamaka Precious from Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) has sparked widespread debate about the severity of the punishment.

The incident, which involved an altercation between the student and a lecturer, Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, raises important questions about the university's approach to discipline and student affairs.

Punishment should serve as a corrective measure, aiming to reform and educate, rather than destroy.

Expulsion, in this case, seems like an extreme measure, one that may have long-lasting, detrimental effects on the student's future.

As a moulding institution, UNIZIK should strive to provide guidance and support, rather than resorting to draconian measures that can be career-killing.

A closer examination of the incident reveals a complex situation, with both parties potentially at fault.

While Miss Goddy-Mbakwe's actions may be unacceptable in our clime, it is also essential to acknowledge the argument that the lecturer's first touch on the female student without her consent constitutes assault.

This perspective highlights the need for a more thoughtful and multidisciplinary approach to addressing the situation.

In light of this, it would be ideal for Miss Goddy-Mbakwe to undergo rehabilitation through the expertise of the Psychology Department at UNIZIK.

This would provide her with the necessary tools and guidance to understand and manage her emotions, develop healthier coping mechanisms, and cultivate more constructive ways to interact with authority figures.

Furthermore, the university should consider providing training for lecturers on maintaining healthy boundaries and fostering positive student-lecturer relationships, as well as promoting cultural sensitivity and awareness to prevent imperialistic attitudes and behaviours.

It is also important to note that Miss Goddy-Mbakwe's case should not be exploited as an opportunity for personal gain or promotion.

The university's actions should be guided by a genuine concern for the student's well-being and growth, rather than a desire for self-promotion or political posturing.

By adopting a more rehabilitative approach, UNIZIK can demonstrate its commitment to the well-being and growth of its students, rather than simply punishing them.

We urge the authorities at UNIZIK to reconsider their decision and explore more constructive ways to address the situation, ensuring that Miss Goddy-Mbakwe is given a chance to learn from her mistakes and continue her academic journey.

The university's decision to expel Miss Goddy-Mbakwe may have been intended to send a strong message about the importance of discipline, but it ultimately undermines the university's role as a nurturing and supportive environment.

Instead, UNIZIK should focus on providing a safe and inclusive space for all students to learn and grow.

Ultimately, the goal of discipline should be to educate and reform, rather than to punish and exclude.

By taking a more holistic and rehabilitative approach, UNIZIK can promote a safer, more supportive learning environment for all students, and help Miss Goddy-Mbakwe to learn from her mistakes and reach her full potential.
Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater
Psychiatric hospital is a rehabilitation center, not a university.

Universities clearly state that fighting attracts EXPULSION.

She signed the document at her matric and her own fighting was WITH EVIDENCE AND PUBLIC GLARE.

Tore a lecturer's clothe and clearly bite her teeth into a lecturer's body, all with video and picture evidence with students witnessing it

If it is not checked, students will be emboldened to start threatening Lecturers and series of lecturer beatings will start across Nigeria.

Go and help that girl if you want to help her. Buy her jamb form in another institution after you will have re-trained her in a rehabilitation center.

Her mother failed to train her right.

No appeal should be made to prevent more fights from being encourage

My gf hasn’t seen her period for months now and she’s not pregnant. We’ve done series of p.tests and it’s always negative. Although she was diagnosed with candida and it seems not to be leaving her system despite the medication she’s been using since last year. The doctor advised her to see the gynecologist.

I don’t know if anyone has similar experience. I’m a little bit worried though.
She should go to proper hospital and see a gynecologist in any federal teaching hospital

I’ve always said this, once a man decides to marry a woman, he does because he loves her. And then, the only thing that woman owes the man is PEACE. Not love, not support but PEACE. No matter his misdeeds, just be his PEACE.

Once that is elusive a man will find LOVE elsewhere and then see if PEACE is there, too.

I hope 2face finds peace in his new found love.

My marriage didn’t last 3 months. Though I love my wife but couldn’t trade my PEACE for love. I bailed eventually.
Peace is my only criteria from a woman.

If peace is elusive from me in your presence, I'm bailing.

The outworld is troublesome, i want where i can come and get some peace.

Well, you have a point there, however this is a problem that can be fixed:

1. Every region should be semi-autonomous with an overriding federal constitution that protects certain key rights;
2. Every region should have resource control with some portion to be remitted to the centre
3. The centre maintains the armed forces and a federal police force
4. The regions have State police forces
5. The presidency is confined to single 5-year terms to be rotated as of right between all the regions.
6. There is a council of regions with greater powers than the federal president. Powers vested in the council will include the right to declare war or a state of emergency, confirm or reject the appointments of service chiefs, and other critical functions.
7. The right of secession must be included in the Constitution.

This should largely solve Nigeria's problems.
All this your shalaye to distract the request for 6th South East state is dead on arrival

It bred too much ethnic nationalism and that led to the civil war in 1966

No, it really isn't unfair at all. If Nigeria was a homogenous entity with no tribal identities, we would objectively look at these states differently.

You would never argue that the south east needs another state when it is comparatively so small. The agitation for another state is therefore objectively unfair and greedy.

But objectivity takes a backseat when ethnic subjectivity comes to the fore.

All of this can be avoided by returning to the regional system.
Nigeria isn't ready for regional system so give South East their balance state.
