Education / Re: Why Is There No Uniform Cut Of Marks For Unity Schools In Nigeria? by ebuka1511(m): 5:03pm On Apr 27
StOla:
Straight answer is quota.

Every state has a quota, so whatever it takes to fill that quota versus the scores of the students from that state, is what you see as cut off mark.

If you say by quota, then there should be no cut off mark, just imagine all candidates of Rivers state indigenes could not make their cut off marks, will they still be granted admission, having failed to meet the required cut off mark?

No state has cheated another state. All have only fulfilled their respective quotas to benefit from the subsidised education that the federal government is providing to aid their unity objective of those Unity Schools.

It is not by force to attend a unity school which does not even constitute 5% of all the secondary schools in Nigeria.

Unity School system is a post civil war programme of the federal government to engender harmony and unity in Nigerian children.

I did not attend a unity secondary school and I made it in life.

That I did not enjoy the subsidised secondary education provided by Unity Schools, does not mean I did not enjoy the heavily subsidised public tertiary education that Nigeria provided that landed me a job in a multinational firm.

For that, I am grateful and free of student loans my foreign counterparts are paying.

Keep it up, I also have an 8 years old daughter who is also enthusiastic about cooking, but we are yet to let her go at it, with this , I will be giving her her first chance at this.

TV/Movies / Re: Movie Review: Áfáméfúná - An Nwa-boi Story. by ebuka1511(m): 8:37pm On Apr 02
CaveAdullam:
"If you marry a monkey because of money, the money will one day finish, but the monkey remains".

Kanayo. O. Kanayo

I love the fact that the movie didn't portray human ritual as a means of making money. Because it is superstitious and inhumane. This is not to say people aren't involved in it. But that human ritual is just a term to cover up money laundering, fraud, and other form of illegality.

The movie from start to finish was intriguing and exciting. Though, the producer and writer were trying to sell a narrative that I found disturbing, however, their point was understandable. We'll get there later.

Afamefuna was a man like his father and master. Men who will toil the soil, with long streams of sweat and sometimes blood breaking on their backs and legs. Rather than steal or beg.

Afamefuna was a man who understood what integrity entails. He was so passionate about his apprenticeship that he rose to a rank even his master was mirthful about.

He was attentive to his job. Always on point. Making friends and avoiding enemies. Mapping his terrain to know where his territory borders and how to make good harvests from it.

He would have ended up being a doormat man even though he was honest. That's where Paulo comes in. Paulo was a senior colleague at first, then a friend, later a brother, and unfortunately in the end, an enemy.

Paulo is like men who aren't able to sustain themselves to the end. May not be exactly their fault; some seeds don't reach the farm.

Paulo was a friend who thought Afamefuna the way of the street, the modus operandi of doing business among sheep, goats, and tigers. Integrity was not enough. Honesty was not enough. Kindness was not enough. The good man must pose as a warrior to defend himself and attack enemies. That's who Paulo was to Afamefuna; his shield and sword.

Afamefuna's father raised his son using his experience, never leaving his son in the dark, feeding him daily with the wisdom of sages. Giving men a highlight on raising quality sons. Which by pure serendipity, the young man quickly leveraged in his time of need - when his boss was almost going bankrupt and helpless.

The movie portrays hard work and integrity as the key to success. Having a keen eye to spot a good location to start a business and becoming the mayor of that town.

Afamefuna had a crush on his boss's daughter, however, his timidity, and also, the engagement of Paulo to the beautiful damsel he admired stopped him from making any amorous move.

This damsel, Amaka indeliberately turned Paulo into Afamefuna's worst and bitter enemy. Afamefuna has to take much blame here, however.

Paulo got jealous that Afamefuna got the blessings of his boss and has now gained his freedom. That act unfurled the dirty nature of Paulo, eroding his little integrity and efficiency. Paulo became wild and angry and sort for other means aside from legality to make money, riches, and wealth. Of course, he made a lot of money but at the cost of his dear life.

Afamefuna getting married to their boss's daughter, Amaka, was another fuel that aggravated the fire of hate between the duo who were once friends but now enemies.

Afamefuna broke the bro code: Bros shouldn't lust after their bros sisters, girlfriends, and wives. Paulo too broke one of the bro codes: Bros shouldn't eat where they shit; he was dating his boss's daughter.

Amaka also portrays the fact that women don't mind jumping high fences, crossing seas, and values to prove their love for a man they have a genuine desire for. She stole from her father to feed the fraudulence of Paulo, her boyfriend who promised her marriage but later jilted her. Funny enough, after many years of separation, she was still entangled with Paulo despite his ill-treatment of her. Genuine desire has a taste of Stockholm syndrome.

Afamefuna capitalized on the abusive relationship of Paulo et Amaka. He was able to lure his long-time crush into a housewife. Surprisingly, unfortunately, and unknowingly for him, he paid a dear price by raising Paulo's biological son. He was a victim of paternity fraud.

Paternity fraud is where I have an issue with the writer and producer of the movie. Amaka wasn't scolded for her actions. Probably, she didn't know because she was playing a home-and-away sex match. Rather she was condoled for her fraud.

Instead of letting Lotanna go meet his biological father, Paulo, Afamefuna didn't, and that was used as manipulative bait by Paulo to blackmail him. All Afamefuna wanted was peace to reign in his life and family, however, he was paying a high price that was detrimental to his total well-being.

Children of paternity fraud shouldn't suffer maltreatment due to the negligence and atrocities of their mothers. However, letting the truth known from the onset is better than covering it in an attempt not to hurt the kids. It doesn't help the kids in the long run.

Paternity fraud is a great crime against fathers and humanity. Fathers and kids involved can only survive this storm by making the truth known and administering justice.

Apprenticeship is a good way of raising soft hands who will later become moving economic forces. The Igbo Apprenticeship System is still in vogue, but it needs better regulations for the efficiency and raising of strong economic leaders. This can scale to every part of the nation.

The picture quality of the movie was top-notch. Good actors. Good play. Good movie.

Thanks.

Good video quality, nice presentation and carriage however I find the plot of the movie to be a joke.
In the Igbo Apprentice System, it is rare or unheard of to have a junior Apprenticeship been settled before a senior one. The rule has always been FIFO first in first out , so I really do not understand the plot the movie was trying to show.

In most cases where the FIFO is not followed, it is either the senior apprentice is sent parking, either through a misdemeanours like theft, grave offense like impregnating a female while still in the system.

In Summary, just like the military, the system has steps, from the rookie to the manager. The manager position is the final class of the Apprenticeship system, here the apprentice has unlimited power and only 2nd to the boss or business owner. So that part is still what I'm yet to come to terms with. However a good movie if you will forgive that plot.

Next is the issue of paternity fraud, this movie to a high extent shows that graduates of that school of business are basically 99% Simps! Easily easily blackmailed or deceived by the females. The reason is not far fetched as all students of this business model gives less than 3% of their time to socialising, you know meeting the opposite sex.

The only time they get to do these are on Sunday, when they arr allowed to go to church services and when carrying out domestics chores on Sunday, otherwise, it is all about the business, aloy depends on them successfully completing the internship.

Sadly, i lost my only brother to this system. Elder bros refused finishing up his term on his final year, a seven year business internship, decided going solo in the business, lagos island, isale eko in lagos, in the electrical wirings sessions.
Bros stated with Oso ahia and was making it in the line till words came around that his ex boss wants him out of the line. In summary , bro died , vomiting blood after attending a party.... the year was 2005. Keep resting in Peace Uchenna.

Business / Re: My Experience After Serving My Oga For 7years Including My Gain And Loss by ebuka1511(m): 12:58pm On Feb 19
weblord1900:
So 7+years ago I made this post seeking advice on a journey I was to embark on.
.
First of all pardon my English,
I'm here again to share my experience over the years of my apprenticeship and also the process. I know it's not all part of this country practice this system. It's more prevellent in the east.
For me there has been up and down and mostly down. This is something you can never understand until you personally experience it.. It will reshape your entire life especially your mind whether you like it or not.

I left my village by June to meet my Oga in the city. I spent 6months as testing. Like the first 6months were not counted as part of the agreement. I was even lucky because some spend 1year as testing. So I started in 2017 after agreement. This type of agreement just involve your oga coming to meet your parents with few eyewitnesses.. No lawyer or paper to sign. Just verbal agreement ,No fixed price .. They'll only discuss on how long you will work for him or her( the oga or madam).

When I started my Oga is still single so I was doing most of the works in the house including cooking .. We were living very happy .. I was eating very well .if you look at me then the evidence is there 😀 Sometimes my oga will come back with full fried chicken oh oh.. Only me and him .. Things where just smooth ..
Fast forward to 2019 my oga decided to my settle down.. I think I use like 4years senior my oga wife. At the first few months his wife was very angelic, calm and gentle. She serve us tea every morning..
Omo how she take change I don't know 🙆🏾‍♂️ I no offend anybody .. I'm very calm in nature .. My oga follow change too. Nobody day send me again ..

During 2020 covid 19 my eyes saw my ears .. I know things was hard then but mine was hard pro max. From 2018 I started suffering from chronic tonsillitis. I was taking drugs up and down including self medication .. I started noticing change from the way I speak because I don't know if it's the drug or the sickness that's affecting me .. I had no one to tell. By 2021 I gathered courage and told my oga 😪.. He carry me go meet aboki people make he carry scissors chop the two damaged tonsils in my throat .. Them just day price am 3k 5k I day one side day shed tears 😭 . I called someone and told him about everything. He told my oga to take me to a good hospital. The story long sha but at the end I went under tonsillectomy surgery .. I'm now fine

By 2023 which is supposed to be my last year my oga carry another problem come.. The way he was treating me caused problems between some of his brother and sister including some of his friends because they don't like the way he was treating me. They were all encouraging and giving me advice to persevere because I'm almost through its just a temptation.
I was settled this February with wetin my mouth not fit talk after serving for 7year chai😭 🤦. You can't even rent a shop with here with the amount I received. I haven't talked about buying the goods in this period every price has sky rocketed. I thank my family and friends it's all good.

Life is a journey ..I still have more opportunities ahead of me. I have seen more than 20 other people that have come to serve but didn't finish. Most of them doesn't last for 2years but I persist because I'm determined for success. With this energy nothing can stop me.

Let me tell you some key points in this system.
1. They don't tell you how much you'll receive at the end. Just be ready to take what you see.
2. It will greatly affect your mental health positively or negatively depending on how you are being treated.
3. There will be alot of temptations and peer pressure if you're not careful you'll be dismissed.
4. If at the end your oga decides not to settle you ,that's all for you. He cannot be procecuted by any law since there is no signed agreement.
5. You'll be blamed for some wrong things you didn't do.
6. There are some common thing you won't be allowed to do.. Like voting during election or going to the football field to play with your friends. You can only be at home or shop.
7. For example if you agreed to work for 5years you might see yourself still working for him after 7years with no settlement. I have seen lot of them.

I'm going to be 28 next month. I have seen and experience more, this is all I can say for now. I can't say i am at loss or profit here because I cherish the experience I gained over the year although I didn't get the finance which made to start the journey at the beginning. If I had money I would have just learn the business for less than a year and start my own but such is life. Some of my classmates are doing well while others never see food chop. Some of the females are married with 2 to 3 children. Mine isn't the worst tho. This life no balance.
I just hope this government make things easy for everybody. E come reach my turn to hustle everywhere come red 🔴😂 ..

I thank Se.un for Nairaland o.. Na here I day come read everything including the cruise, bash, and banter. SE.UN abeg check if my story na front page material 😁

God bless you, brother, the system is never perfect, it is a learning school for a reason. However My prayer for you today is that you will excel in your line of business, and become even greater than your boss. It is good you persevere and complete the time.

Now here is my advice, kindly take the whole capital you have been settled with to your local church and have your pastor pray with you.
Still, maintain a very respective cordial relationship with your boss and his wife
- Start small, you know the terrain better, lookup options of sharing a shop with anyone offering or even a "canter" in your line of business in the market.
- If you can now, avoid billings from home, you are just starting up and I trust your mum understands this too, however, know when to come in.
- This is the season where you will have to work off your ass, at this stage now, almost 80% of the revenue you will generate will be from referral sales "Oso Ahia", and having built that great relationship with your boss, his shop and that of his friends in the line will be open to you.
- Make sure you are honest in your dealings, if this is found, many big chaps in the lines will open up credit sales to you (Big importers in the lines giving you discounted goods on credit....... these credit goods levels will be increased as turn over increases and with time, you can start by "group pages" Hope I get it right.
- By all accounts, avoid women for now, they are never a priority, and for accommodation, you can share accommodation for now.
- By all means, please avoid sports bettings!!!! it has ended so many starts up.
- Leverage ICT, WhatsApp, and your social media pages to advertise your business.
- Get to Know God now and rely on him
- Finally, put into practice all the lessons you have learned from your boss, even those suggestions you gave he never tried, as the saying goes, it is starting a draft work that is difficult, but once the draft has been done, the rest of the work is easy, you already have your draft work, now improve on it.

Finally, share your line of business, this is a big community, and you never can tell where the big break will come from .

The system is not perfect, I lost my only brother to it in 2004, Uche may your soul continue to rest in Peace still kept thinking why the business route? when you had the option of furthering your education, even when you made fantastic results in your O'level, but it was not to be, as the allure of the big boys in business during the Christmas Village holiday overcame you.

This is way too funny, the year was 2001, I was in SS2 while she was also in SS2, living with my Aunt in the village, attending the local community secondary, while she was a boarder in Anglican Girls Nnewi. Our communication then was through NIPOST. We exchanged lots of letters via the post office till when we decided to take a step further.

On a very good day, she wrote and informed me she would be visiting me, local man began to sweat, then I was also a virgin, I never spoil and was among the best students in my class then. I confided in my best friend Chibuzor on whatsup, that my babe wants to visit, he was aware of her . Chibuzor after thorough thinking advised me to let her come between 10am to 1PM on a particular date, as my Aunt been a teacher in one of the government primary schools in my town would be in school.

I communicated back, sharing my home address with her, and told her she fit show on our cleared date. Na so my babe come oh, meanwhile, I came back early from school, when all, including my aunt, has left for work. My lucky day, I went with my guy, Chibuzor to our main road to receive her, see butterflies doing acrobats in my tummy, Wow, only seen her once on a crusade ground in her village, Awka Etiti. when St. Barth. Anglican Church came for a crusade, there we met and exchanged school postal addresses.

With my little savings, I bought some biscuits, short cake biscuit by Nasco, not short bread oh as I could not afford it, then I bought a bottle of fanta and coke, so she gets to make her choice and I take the left over.

On arrival, Innocent me, I did not take her to my room, rather I took her to the living room, less I forget, I don discharge Chibuzor after we reach house. We were in the living room and I offered her my little refreshment, she took fanta, while i sipped my coke . We were discussing about Physics, Chemistry, how many topics she has covered, most difficult topics, and the like when our main entrance gate made a noise, the gate usually makes noise when someone is using it,

Swallowing hard, I went and peeped over the window!! low and behold, it was my Aunt, you suppose understand those Aunts that teaches primary six in government primary school, she was a no-nonsense lady, very strict. I evaluated my situation, we were not in any compromising position, me stuttering, informed my girl that my Aunt was back, she had nothing to fear, I would introduce her, she was scared, but so was I. However I tried calming her down.

Local man was in a fixed , however, I await my fate. Meanwhile, my aunt arrived before their normal closing hours, as she normally closes from school around 1:30 pm, but it was just after 11 am, I know someone must have snitched on me, but then, we were not doing anything bad, that was my thought, so it was going to be easy.

She quietly came in and entered the living room, I came out and greeted her, she asked why I was not in school, I stuttered to answer that I had a guest, she now asked me who was the guest?

I answered my friend.

She asked again, what type of friend? while walking into the parlor. When she entered, I blurted out... she is my Girlfriend, told her her name, her surname, her village and her school, her class, her last position in class, and many more things I cannot recall now.
Next I saw was broom landing on my girlfriend and me, men!!!! local man is finished!!!!

I never knew how she made it out of our compound. That was the end!!!! I could not write back to apologize and soon we wrote our SSCE exams, contacts were lost. In retrospect, I smile now and have played out many scenarios I would use that would have saved me that embarrassment, but then it happened.

Family / Re: My Name Is Not Included On The Document Of Land Bought By My Husband by ebuka1511(m): 11:52am On Jul 19, 2023
Celepope:
I have a friend who lives abroad and did similar thing and his wife dragged him all over the place for it. Because the guy is well to do, he sold the land and gave her the money. Guess what? Few weeks later this same Lady bought another land in Abuja without the husband’s name and the husband not even being aware. From this my friend’s experience, I have come to learn that women always want to look out for themselves, their children and their family and don’t even consider their husband that work hard to get this money. This same lady have been living in their big house in Abuja without my friend’s two kid sisters or parents knowing where their elder brother and son’s home is located because she can’t stand seeing them. Madam your husband must have seen something that made him take the decision to exclude you from the land purchase.

My brother, there mustn't be a reason to make a man take that decision, let face it, prior to the feminization movement, that has always been the default thinking settings of all men. Some old school like me still have that mindset.

See to me, all my properties will be in my name, and my kid's name will never be on my will, because my wife name will be the one there, to over see it. This is taking the general assumption that I will go first. I trust her with all my heart to equitably share our properties well among the kids. To start it now, the kids, they all know that they are entitled to nothing from us, except quality education and training. So while my wife's name is not on any of the properties I buy, she has all the original title documents and knows all locations of these properties. That her name is not on any of the titles do not show I don't trust her, it is just the way I believe it should be.

From experience, I know that whenever a woman wants to report an issue, she will only tell the part that would draw peoples sympathy...

Look you're an Igbo lady (I guess from your profile name caption).. Any Igbo man knows that you must always add your wife's name to properties, if not, when you gone, in-laws would flex muscles and leave your wife and kids nothing.

Common, say what you know!!! I do not agree with this your comment. Daughters in the law now can inherit their parents properties, a case has been decided at the Supreme court, so your contribution up there holds little or no water

Since your case is different, I believe that maybe:
1. You have taught him a lesson from a previous case of joint ownership of properties (maybe you guys bought a car or any items together before that he now regrets doing).
2. You have done same to him before now (you bought something without carrying him along)... you may deny here but in your heart you should know.
3. You may be warming up to people that scares him (say maybe a troublesome in-laws or friends) as such Oga wants to play safe

My recommendation:
1. Land or properties title can be changed or updated any time, just work to build back your husband's trust.
2. Stop or keep away from whatever gave him that scare of including you to his common wealth.

Dear Madam,

Put your heart at rest, and from what someone here has mentioned, you have been advised from the wrong perspective. Some men are still old school. They do things the old way, sadly, I belong to this class of men. That he did not include your name in the document does not change anything, his loyalty remains to you and his kids, in summary, his family. You are his legal wife with three sons for him for God's sake!!

When I also bought my first property, it was just my name on it, wify started giving attitude and the likes, I ignore her, then later I cleared her that all I have are hers and in the event of my demise (whenever God calls) she remains the sole next of kin and stands to gain every property we have and not even the kids, to be honest, I trust her to equally distribute what we have gained equitably among the kids and to be honest, all my document and official document carries her name as my next of kin.

And to be open to her, there is no property of ours that she does not know about. All our property documents and certificates are in her custody, she knows all the locations of our assets and has all the deeds and documentation, so why bother over the document title? Come to think of it, we are married, both at the registry.

Madam, calm down, never make your man start having doubts over your trust, for once you sow this seed, it is like that stubborn weed that is difficult to eradicate........... symptoms of this seed is when he starts hiding his winnings and accomplishment from you. be wise.

I never said they are poisonous. I never did. What I said was that I have read where it was alleged that they do secrete some poisonous substances as a defence mechanism when they are about to die.

And I have also read where it is said that many a family died by eating from Food or drank from water that has a dead Gecko.

My Grandma tales is just a Local myth like all other local myths.

Besides, I raised chickens and I have seen Chickens run after them and do eat then on a number of occasion. So, I don't really believe they are poisonous as people alleged.

Good because growing up in the village, I had had occasions I drew up dead wall geckos from our well which we drink and use in cooking. What I do is just discard the water and dead geckos, lower my bucket and continue fetching my water from same source

I read sometimes that while on the throes of death, they do discharge poisonous substance as a means of defence.

So, a Gecko in a pot of soup or one that fell inside a bucket of drinking water could be lethal if such food or water is ingested.

I remember growing up, anywhere my Grandma sees it, she must kill it. When we ask her why, she said they do scratch people with their claws while sleeping and leaving dark long marks on people's body.
......... but they are not poisonous, If I get you right, so with all the works from researchers , you still believe they are poisonous?

What is a soldier doing inside Sienna?

Exactly, it is not every vehicle that is donated to the security Arms of government that must be accepted. Take a look at this, soldiers in a Toyota Siena are just seating ducks waiting to be picked , the vehicle has no space for maximum maneuverability of the soldiers when under fire when compared with pickups.

Trucks like the pickup should be standard issues when it comes to operational vehicles for soldiers. May the souls of the deceaed soldiers rest in peace. These guys are someone's dad, brother, husbands and kids.

Education / Re: What Offence Did a Student Who Approached His Female Lecturer For love Commit? by ebuka1511(m): 9:21pm On Sep 05, 2022
Please find some answers to your questions, these are my opinion though!!

I have some questions here.

1. Did this guy commit any offense by "toasting" his female lecturer?
Answer here is no, he did not commit any offense by toasting his female lecturer, however there are codes of conduct guiding all lecturers among which is having relationships with students, luckily, she followed laid down rules by reporting the inappropriate advance from your cousin.

2. Is it right for the department to have denied him opportunity to graduate because of this?
The institution did not deny him an opportunity to graduate as his Project work was still in progress

3. Can he complain to the authority of the institution about this? What will he say he did to have been denied opportunity to graduate?

Unfortunately, I see no case here, under what s your cousin making the complain, the school authority did the right thing by reassigning your cousin a new project supervisor when the first supervisor reported that the student-lecturer relationship has been bridged when your cousin made the advance to his supervisor.

4. Has the department committed any offence against this boy as touching his fundamental human rights?
No offense is committed here

5. Can he seek legal redress?
I am not a lawyer, however from experience and similar cases like this, your cousin has no case

Thank you all.

entry age, I dejectedly try the university, entered Physics as my course of study, and made it on 2nd attempt. Then FUTO now came with no

combining of results, and I had to go for another course (This was a blessing in disguise).

Today, as they say, the rest is history, currently practising what I read in Uni and really enjoying it.

Although not venomous, completely harmless? Not true.

Your words are true, however, I happen to be an indigene of one of the towns in Idemili South LGA and I can tell you for free that Pythons in our areas are harmless to humans, they can be a nuisance, but they are very harmless and will not attack human even when provoked. Just let it go on its way and if it is obstructing you, get a long stick and move it out of your way.

I do not know about pythons from other areas but it is what it is, in my place.

Some that scored 130 won't be admitted while some with less than 10 would be admitted on merit. When are we going to do away with this madness and let human capacity development be on merit only basis?

I will keep saying it, Power for equity should return to the South. The North has been there for eight years, it is now the turn of the South.

The zoning system up there for entrance into our unity schools should be an eye-opener. why not allow the same rule for governance and

power rotation?

We allow this to fly, but when it comes to government and politics, we all say let merits reign, i.e there should be no zoning. Who is fooling

who?

Let us not be fast at condemning him, many people like him who believe that it is right for power to shift to the south will have to make a decision between Obi and Jagaban. His call was for Jagaban. it is what it is.

He is among those that rightly believe power would move to the south after 8 years in the North and I see nothing wrong in it. I also rightly believe it is time for power rotation to the south after the North has had it for 8 years. Whichever vehicle would be used in actualizing this power movement does not matter.

And to be fair, it is time for power to move to the south.

Business / Re: A Loggerhead With My Fiance Over Joint Account by ebuka1511(m): 2:54pm On Jun 20, 2022
Adeleketoyin:
My people please I need your advice.

I'm having a lil loggerhead with my Fiance.

My fiance works in a company, which doesn't give him time to come home or live in his rented apartment for long.
I currently run a confectionery shop in my father's house.

My Fiance however wants to have a joint account with me when we get married soon in this my confectionery business. According to him, he'll support me, to help him get free in the future to stop his salary work and probably start another business without affecting the family.

But I don't want to have any joint account or partner with anyone in this my confectionery business. I want my business without any check or partner.
He's insisting on joint account to run the business and its getting into our relationship.

Please what do you advice?

Dear OP,

This is really a red flag, you are not yet married and he is insisting on a joint account? Let him know that you will always support him both

financially and otherwise, (and be honest with this, if you can't there is no need for you guys to be married together), but respectively let him

know you would like to operate your account on your own, if he insists on a joint account or no married, my sister, I am a man, married for 8

years, just take a walk from that relationship, it is not worth it, he is a control freak in the making, and there are signs that he might in future

let you handle all the family bills alone.

Pets / Re: Why Do People Hate Nigerian Local Dogs? by ebuka1511(m): 8:38am On May 12, 2022
Reading this piece and some comments here have really waken my consciousness, whether we like it or not, there is this unconscious bias we have developed for anything local or African.

Let us start with our kids, I have seen videos of where black kids were presented a white and black doll to make a choice from and guess what?, almost 98% of the kids in the study went for the white doll. This conditioned way of thinking has made us believe anything associated with the back is wrong/bad. It is so so bad. Even in the Western world, its unfortunate to see even Black Americans racially discriminating against fellow blacks from African origin.

This is the reason many of us believe it is until we Japa, that is when we can make it. We are all guilty of this. We have unconsciously taken it down to animals. I was thinking of getting a pet dog for my daughter, I have made lots of research on dog breeds to choose from, but from this writes up, I am going for a very local breed, yes you get me right, I will get an Ekuke or your ordinary bingo for my daughter.

Let us be reminded that our breed of local dogs still has their original genome sequence intact, reasons they have high adaptability, compared to those foreign breeds that are crosses of crosses of hybride dogs, most are not original, and from the basics in genetics, we know the effects of excess recessive genes when they are cross breed frequently.

The truth is that our weakest link is in our leadership, however, I believe things will only get better, it might not be in our generation, but then I still believe we will get it right. Let us learn to believe in ourselves.

I pray we all Africans wake up from our mental slavery and know how to cherish our own. Remember the saying, "Monkey no fine, but I'm mama like am" .

Brother nothing happened to you, your palate changed and the taste of it changed too. It has been proven scientifically that our palate changes after every 7 years. Growing up, I detested beans and would give all manners of excuses to avoid having it for meal, but look at me now, seems I'mloving that food now.[1quote author=CoronaVirusPro post=111474951]I use to love beans so much way back. It was a daily thing and probably the reason I am tall. I just don't know what happened between us, I detest it so much now and not had a spoon in a decade.

I ate that meal everyday for like a decade of my life. I doubt if I would ever be inlove with anything again like the way I did with beans
Education / Re: Share Your Ugly Experience With Nigerian Lecturers by ebuka1511(m): 3:35pm On Mar 30, 2022
This was in FUTO, in my 300Levels, the course was Maritime Insurance. The lecturer was this strict no-nonsense lecturer, that ought to have been a prof, but was still marking time as a Doc. During this course, I noticed the material, Maritime Act he was using to teach was an outed one, there has been a recent update to the Maritime Act. Some of us in the class who has been reading ahead all knew the materials the Doc. was quoting from were obsolete but none wanted to make this know to Mr Lecturer.

I am the type that says it the way it is and will prefer to give it out with my bare hand than wearing hand gloves. So in one of these lectures, I was so bored and restive, cause I know that the information being shared was old and mainly outdated. I raised my hand to make a contribution, and when I was signalled to go ahead, I politely and kindly informed the lecturer that that particular Act we using currently using was outdated and quoted the current Act to him, with some changes. There was a heavy silence in the class. Next thing, I was ordered to leave the class by the lecturer. Even some classmates advised me to leave, but I am this heard strong guy that will never be intimidated, I refused. The class ended with the lecturer walking out of the class.

The lecturer never attended that class again till our exams, all he did was share the lecture materials with our course rep. The whole class all got the material, I inclusive. On the day we were to write the exam for that course, everyone in the class knew for certain that I will be having that particular course a carryover. I prepared well for the course, went in and wrote the exams.

In the next sessions when the result was out, the course was my main focus, everyone in my class was eager to know my score in the course. When I entered the said Lecturer's office to get my grades, he was not too happy to see me, and after going through his grading list, he told me I had a "B" (Mind you I gave all my best for the course my worst-case scenario for that course was a "C") in the course and congratulated me on it. This made me respect him the more and I apologised to him during our last class encounter. Prof. Nwokoro, May God continue to bless you as you never victimized me, even when you had every reason to.

Career / Re: The Best Boss You Have Ever Worked With. Share Your Experience by ebuka1511(m): 3:06pm On Mar 28, 2022
Nice topic OP, I am happy where I am now, I started out with a toxic boss, the type that whenever a message drops into your outlook and its his name, you are already on your edges. My God those years in PH were my worst years, there are days I wake up, I just feel deflated, the urge and zeal to go to work are just not there, even when all my KPIs are at the top. Made lots of savings in our departmental budget, a major fallout entails the dramatic reduction of 3PL providers. These and more drew the hell on me. Even when funds from my departmental budget under my purview and control was been used to charge for expenditures in other activities outside my TORs, I made no noise about it and let sleeping dogs lie (Done by my boss, a vivide occasion he made an expenditure for the purchase of an automatic sweeper machine, cost 12M, (real cost 6M) on my budget, while he has his own budget) , yet it still would not make my boss happy. I did all I could to optimize resources within the department, initiated new KPIs, brought out new actionable benchmarks far above the existing ones, yet to my direct boss I was distorting the cart.

Even when I had my first baby and son, I was not given a day off, I remember I had to join my wife in the hospital after the closing of work. It was that bad. I finally left, stayed 1 year and 6 months without a job, and also with our second child, a daughter. This happens without any medical insurance (As I have left the company) and then later within the year, losing our last savings of 2M naira to MMM.

However, God is God and the break came in the Dec. of 2016, Maiduguri it stated and a female boss. Where ever you Ms, Patience Foya, a nice Zimbabwean lady, my God will always keep and protect you always. With her, I knew the workplace is meant to be like a team, we all succeed if we work together. From here, I learned, been a team player does not end at getting your part of the job done rightly rather getting your job done rightly and assisting others lagging within the team to also get their parts done rightly.

To show you how good she was, my direct boss gave me the link to a job opening with my current job description in another agency that pays double what my current employer pays and really encouraged me to apply, as the job is a good fit and I would also have a more bright and wider scope of job experience there. This is basically against all referrer ethics, but she did it because she saw what I did not see. This I did, and true to her, I got the offer after all the rigorous and lengthy written and oral interview sessions.

Coming to this new organization, I was also lucky to have one of the best in our field for a boss. Desalegn Seifu Damtew, my supervisor in this new organization was all I could ask for, a father, a boss, a colleague and a friend all in one package. By the way, he is an Ethiopian and one of the best. He really exposed me to lots of training materials and further training in the organization. In all so grateful for these wonderful angels in human form. Seems I am been repaid for all the ordeals I went through in my first workplace with the toxic boss. My goal now is to replicate all the benefits I have enjoyed from these wonderful bosses to colleagues I am currently supervising.

In all, a good boss will bring out the best you never know is in you.

This is really great!!! so proud of Nigeria. Let us all patronize made in Nigeria products, imagine we have this combined DICON for all our military needs, Innoson and other made in Nigeria automobiles manufacturers for civilian vehicle requirements, Dangote Bua and the rest for our cement, then we also issue out more licences for Modular refineries.... Nothing stops Nigeria from being a world power. I just pray the government of the day supports private Nigeria homegrown industries. Gradually, we will get there. So proud of Proforce Team, keep it up/

Quality control should be taken seriously in this country. We can’t keep wasting people’s lives. Casualties might not be much if the Emergency guys arrives early. Unfortunately, this is Nigeria where a pizza delivery is faster than Nigeria Emergency team. Shame!

Thank you my brother, the issue here is purely quality control. I recently had an experience with a friend who went to Steel Village in PH to purchase some rods for his construction project. On his list were various lengths of rods he will need to buy. My friend not wanting to be short-changed by the engineer decided to buy his material himself so I tugged along.

Within the steel village, when we made enquiry for 16mm, 12mm, and 10mm rods, low and behold what we were shown were 14mm,10mm and 8mm in places of 16, 12 and 10mm. The friend is not so technical when it comes to issues like this, I now had to call his attention to the quality of the rods, alas, when I now informed the sellers that these grades of steel were below the actual steel, they all came out to say it is the Economy, it is affecting everything even quality of many products. At the end of the, we actually got our listed rod at the right quality but at a far higher price. This is the state of the country. Had I not been with my friend and he made his purchases and left if tomorrow something happens and the building collapse, we all start shouting Engineers, but in actual fact, the strength of materials used was far below standards.

I remember telling them that many collapsing structures most times are as a result of their activities, compromising with the quality of materials on sale to inexperienced buyers. The stated quantity of material needed for a building project is bought, however, the quality is far below standard quality. Check out many consumer products like your normal satchel peak milk, the 1g sachet, same thing, weight far below 1g and then the quality of the milk is also far below normal quality yet, the price is on a daily increase, look around you, its also happening with other consumer products and unfortunately in the building industry, it is very fatal when projects like this fail.

To me, prices can be increased but let the quality of the product not be tampered with.

May God help the trapped victims and keep them safe.

Guy sorry to say this but na you get problem here. It is public transport and first come first serve. She was there before you came, how do you now expect her to give up her space for you? and did you even ask politely? guess not from your writes up. Attitude matters a lot, and from your writes up, you seems to be the type of guy that believes that a man is always right. This is wrong, give respect, not because of gender, religion, sex or age but because it is appropriate.

I totally agree with the part that no negotiations with terrorist,

I don’t agree with the part of killing innocent students or victims coz of the negligence of both state , federal and locals that aid and abets criminals

MY brother, its not as straightforward as you would think. When it is not your own blood that is held by the bandits, its easy to say, "no negotiation with Bandits" however when your relative is involved, you will definitely have a change of view.

For me, I would say there should be no negotiations with Bandits/Terrorist when all the security arms of the country are up and doing, this is unfortunately not what is obtainable here, our security architecture is in a serious mess now, and to me, do all you can to get your relatives or loved ones out from the grip of those terrorists when they are held captive, as it is now everyone for his/her self, even if it means paying Ransome to get them out, by God's grace, source for it and get them out.

In a more civilized clime, where things are functional, this is where that saying works, as everyone is a testament to an efficient and well-oiled state security architecture. Even over there, relatives of abducted persons have 100% confidence in their security structure, in Nigeria, how many of us have that same confidence here?

I know a story of a man that went to report a case of kidnapping to a police Post, the officers on duty asked him to calm down that they (the kidnappers ) will surely call and state their terms..... just imagine. So do not be fast to conclude on no negotiation with bandits in the Nigeria context, just because you are not affected.

May God see us through the trying times.
