Netflix bought worldwide rights to the Nollywood movie, LionHeart by the Nollywood star, Genevieve Nnaji, just a day before its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Yesterday, being the 22nd of December, 2018, I went to see this movie. Some people call it a comedy movie, but I doubt that that was the intention. It wasn’t meant to be a comedy, but because of the natural flawlessness of the characters, because of the presence of one of the most comic characters in Nollywood, Nkem Owoh, there came laughter. I recently saw a Nollywood movie (name withheld) and I thought it was funny, the dry kind of funny. The funny that makes you laugh but doesn’t cross your oesophagus, and makes you feel that your laughter doesn’t belong to you. And the movie leaves you immediately you leave the hall. But Lionheart felt completely different. The laughter that came out of me was not dry, it flowed freely like the source of it, down to the shoulders, to the heart, and to the unsilent feet, boldly stamping the carpeted floor of the hall. I was utterly drawn by the lustrous current of the indigenous languages used. The proverbs were everything. E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G. Onyeka Onwenu is an awesome actor. The way she spoke on a particular scene completely took my breath away. She’d said, ‘you’ve always been able to do whatever you put your mind to’ in such an alluring way to Adaeze (Genevieve). Lionheart was like watching a real family video with cultural values. And I loved the fact that this family didn’t pressurize the girl into marriage or ignore her because of her gender. I loved that this family took their company and the workers as family, and doing anything that would jeopardize their future was unacceptable. And I loved the most that while the family sat together for lunch or dinner, that they talked like real family, real Igbo family; that there was this exhibition of fear for a boy who gets into music, that there was the tender admonition and laughter and the love that was so real and true. It equally showed a mother who believed in the dreams of her son, and you have no doubt that mothers are like this. This movie doesn’t leave you when you leave the hall. It stays with you. It nudges you and tickles when you are walking down the street lighted by the neon lights, when you’re in the car listening to Phyno’s songs. And you’d decide in all of these that you’d see the movie again, and maybe again and again. This movie has not gotten the hype it deserves. https://stephenechefu..com/2018/12/movie-review-lionheart-film-by.html?m=0 28 Likes

The movie Black Panther is breaking massive records at the box office. The black community feels that they are finally represented. But is there more at play? Why all of the sudden now does Hollywood want to promote black strength? Most of us aren't asking these questions. Black Panther is a movie serving witchcraft and the occult to the black community as being normal. Most of us don't realize it because we"re so caught up with our blackness, we put it before our God. Our blackness is an idol and it prevents us from seeing things clearly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6trkRnenEQ lalasticlala |

Laura Lyons, a private investigator who specialises in tracking down online romance fraudsters, otherwise known as "catfish" has unmasked a Nigerian fraudster. According to BBC, Laura Lyons posed as Kathryn Hunter - a wealthy divorcee looking for love. According to her: “It's not long before the catfish begin to bite. Four men approach me online and they all claim to be US soldiers. . One of the soldiers, who calls himself Paul Richard, comes on strong. The number he rings from has a Nigerian dialling code. After a brief silence, a man with a thick African accent comes on the line. . He doesn't sound like the American soldier whose picture he is using. But Paul explains away his accent by saying he has a cold. An online reverse image search leads me to the Instagram page of the real owner of the pictures the catfish was using. For the next few weeks, my producer continues to speak to Richard on the phone as I listen in. Then our catfish makes a mistake. Richard accidentally leaves a name tag - Dan Coolman - on one of his WhatsApp pictures. . We search through all the Dan Coolmans in Nigeria and we find one who runs a barbershop in Ibadan. He's using the same number that our catfish has been calling us from. Coolman is another false name, but we discover the phone is registered to Daniel Joseph Okechkwu. We have finally uncovered the real identity of our catfish. We head for Ibadan, but by the time we get there he's gone. The doors to the barber shop are locked and locals say it's been closed for weeks. We decide to call him and tell him who we really are. He confesses and claims it's the first romance scam he's ever pulled and that he has been forced to do it because of the closure of his barber shop. He sounds sincere and he apologises for the way he has treated us. He says he wants to stop being a romance fraudster. But he needs us to give him money, so that he can afford to stop tricking other people out of their cash. It's a classic catfish twist. They never give up on the scam even when they have been rumbled.“ https://stephenechefu..com/2018/11/private-investigator-unmasks-nigerian.html 11 Likes 3 Shares

Pusha T’s tour stop in Toronto reportedly ended prematurely when the Virginia Beach rapper was supposedly attacked during his set. At his performance on Tuesday night, unknown assailants rushed him, causing his set to be cut short. From the video, it seems security put a stop to the attack, but the show was curtailed anyway. Watch the video here > https://www.instagram.com/p/BqbfCqGhONG/ Toronto is, of course, the hometown of Pusha’s lyrical rival Drake, whom he spent a sizable portion of the summer goading with songs like “Infrared” and “The Story Of Adidon.” While Drake responded to the initial provocation of “Infrared” with his own track, “Duppy Freestyle,” Pusha’s own response, “The Story Of Adidon,” was thought to have ended the open hostilities between the two after the diss revealed the existence of Drake’s secret son. In the aftermath, Drake asserted that his withdrawal from the battle was due to the intervention of his mentor and Houston-based benefactor, J. Prince, who is well-known for his exploits during the early rise of Texas label Rap-A-Lot Records during the “wild west” ’90s of hip-hop. However, he claimed that he felt Pusha’s overt disrespect for Drake’s friend and producer Noah “40” Shebib ought to have been met with a more forceful response than he was willing to deliver himself. Meanwhile, Pusha made his own rounds explaining the battle and told Joe Budden’s podcast that the information regarding Drake’s son came from none other than Shebib himself and was prompted by Drake’s own “Duppy” bar referencing Virginia Williams, Pusha’s then-fiancee, now-wife. According to Linda Ikeji's Blog, the article on the blog titled “LIB exclusive: Meet the owner of Instablog9ja - John Abayomi” published on November 15, 2018 John Abayomi was mistakenly identified by his picture as the owner of Instablog9ja. This mistake was as a result of the exact similarities in the names of John Abayomi who is an Online Editor with Punch and another John Abayomi Aruleba who is the actual owner of Instablog9ja. The picture identification mistake from their staff was sadly as a result of the uncanny yet not uncommon similarities in the names of these two individuals. Linda Ikeji's Blog is happy to set the record straight, take full responsibility for the mix-up as they tender their unreserved apology to John Abayomi of Punch Newspapers for any inconvenience this mistake has caused. The fact however still remains that John Abayomi Aruleba runs Instablog9ja with his partner, Tosin Dotun Adeyemi. https://stephenechefu..com/2018/11/john-abayomi-aruleba-is-owner-of.html 1 Like 1 Share
