Since those who run this country have decided that you will not enjoy any form of entertainment in your own home by constantly ensuring that power supply remains an illusion, going out is your only consolation and the cinema has thus become an integral part of your existence.
You know what they say about when you’re in Rome, right? Well, should you choose to go to the cinema around here, please be advised to obey these golden rules:
Inside the Cinema Halls…

BRING FOOD! EVERYONE in the cinema hall will be eating something. The smacking of lips seems to be a prerequisite of cinema attendance. Security at Naija cinemas is so slack that you can smuggle a cow’s thigh in. I once sat beside someone who had a bowl of Amala and goat meat! Feel free to bring your starch and banga, or fufu and Oha soup. When you are done, remember to smack your lips loudly and comment on the food, to everyone’s hearing, of course.

BRING A DRINK – If you are a guy and you are seeing a chic flick with the (in)significant other, smuggle some Vodka or Henni in a juice pack to help through the gloom. If not, just bring a straw with whatever drink you are bringing. When you have almost finished the drink, take a long drag with the straw and make a nuisance of yourself with the accompanying sound. Don’t worry, everyone else would be doing the same!

SPEAK UP! – What’s the point of a movie without commentary? Share your observations and opinions with all those who are unfortunate enough to have bought a ticket to see the same film as you: “Ah, don’t go there! The bad guy is waiting o!” “Kill him jo!” “Ah, no now (sob! Sob!!) don’t leave her now…” You will not be the only one speaking up so be as loud as possible.

KEEP YOUR LIPS TO YOURSELF – Kissing is universally accepted as a part of the cinema experience. However, if you sit in a Naija cinema anywhere within the sights of members of the National Association of Currently Unattached Female Citizens (NACUFC), you may get an earful should your lips venture forth: “What? Is it that bad? Can’t they wait till they get home? And it’s not as if they are in love like that o; yeye show-off! People who are truly in love don’t PDA. Psssssew!! Rubbish! Abeg! See see, they don’t even know how to kiss sef; is he going to swallow her tongue?!

KEEP YOUR HANDS TO YOURSELF – After eating his popcorn off his date’s cleavage, a friend of mine decided to venture further with his hands. He had depended on the darkness of the cinema hall for cover but clearly underestimated the presence of ‘men of God’ in everything Nigerian. A hand grabbed his advancing fingers from behind and declared in a clerical voice: “You shall come forth but no further. Salvation is better than earthly desires!” You may hold hands, or sling your hands across shoulders, but that’s about it!

Outside the Cinema Halls

PAY TOILET TAX – After sitting through a 2hr movie, using the restrooms is always a good idea. If you are male and you go to the male convenience, please go there with some money. You will be welcome by about four cleaners who will hail you as if you are their long lost brother. They will sing your praises while you pee. They will be ready to help with the soap when you want to wash your hands. These otherwise personal acts will be rudely interrupted by these tax collectors and all through their praise-singing, there would be an underlined firmness to their request. Ignore them at your own peril. While cases of physical assaults have not been reported to us, it is just smarter to give the boys something.

DO NOT TOAST, UNLESS… – Unless you see a certified birth certificate or a sworn affidavit, do not toast any female within the walls of Silverbird or Genesis Deluxe. Looks are very deceptive and I guess you do not really want to ask your 13 year old niece’s friend out. Forget that they look developed and ready; they are kids! On the other hand, do not be deceived by the body-hugging clothes, tight jeans and flimsy tops; things are going south beneath them. So, unless you like being handled by a young-babe-wannabe cougar, you are advised to demand for certification
LOOOOL nice post mehn

We live in a purely competitive world. The pressure to be perfect and be the best is stiff and high for all, whether you are a parent, student, dancer or driver. No one is exempted and sometimes, feelings of inadequacy and inferiority fill our hearts. One way we then make ourselves feel up to standard is through comparison. This is one of the most dangerous behaviours ever. We tend to hold ourselves up against others and measure to see where each person falls short.
If the foot were to say, because I am not a hand I don't belong to the body, that would not keep it from being a part of a body. And if the ear were to say, because I am not an eye I don't belong to the body, that would not keep it from being a part of the body. If the whole body were an eye how could it hear? And if it were only an ear how would it smell?
God has a special plan for your life that is different from that of your neighbour. His gifts for you are the best. He fashioned you in His image right from your mother's womb.
It is high time we stopped imitating and pursuing the interests and capabilities of others and start pursuing the passions that God has written in our hearts. Your role in the body of Christ is essential and can't be the same with the person seated next to you. The five fingers of our hands are not equal; in the same vein, no two people can attain the same position in life while passing through the same hurdles. Instead of comparing and wishing you have the life of someone else, why not live the life that God has destined for you and discover His purpose for your life. God created each of us differently in our own unique way. Live your life to the fullest in the grace and tranquillity of God. He has plans for you. Do not go chasing shadows. Everybody has their own quota of problems and worries. Do not determine the course of your life but allow God to be the sole architect of your life. You are unique with capabilities and these capabilities are uncommon to another person.
Cheers.

Nairaland GeneralThe Future Is Here. The World Is Changing. I Am Changing. You Are Changing. by echepops(op): 1:27pm On Jul 06, 2014
I want to take you on a sci-fi fantasy journey. Who knows, maybe what you're about to read will be the reality of tomorrow. The mobile phone was science fiction fantasy. We'll name our vehicle Odyssey 2111. I want you to imagine the world in 2111- about a hundred years from now. Civilisation is so advanced, technology so far out we no longer hold physical cash or cards.
The phone is now a wearable technology with holographic video capabilities. In fact it's no longer called a phone. It's called Personal Digital Console- PDC. It's a grid technology platform. You do everything on it. You even vote with it. Nations hold referendums on the grid, with everyone plugged in through PDC. There are "Tweet Boards" on the street. They project trending convos. You can plug in to any conversation through your PDC. Your doctor remotely diagnoses your ailments via the grid. You have a chip implant. Your chip can plug into what we used to call the ATM (automated teller machine) to get your daily vitamin upload. Since ATMs no longer dispense money they're now known as Ubiquitous Dispensary Device- UDD. It's a grid enabled dispensary system. The technology grid is ubiquitously prevalent, like electricity. So advanced is technology that movie rentals are now delivered directly to individuals, not their phones. The brain is used as digital file storage device. It's partitioned like your computer hard disk. The contact lens is a movie screen. You watch movies on your contact lens. Either that or through Google glass. It is the dawn of the era of "remote church". There are full time online pastors. You take digital communion. The traditional church has interactive screens as walls. Each chair is fitted with a multimedia screen like on the plane. You can follow the sermon in tweets, not just by video or audio. Just press the Sermon Tweets button. You can broadcast the sermon to your friends in any format you choose. You can sync your PDC with the console. If the pastor is going too fast for you, you can rewind the video or audio on your screen. Even pause. Of course tithes and offerings are binary. Bitcoins have now been perfected and universally adopted. One of the greatest advances is in prison reform. The State has dispensed with building prisons. Prisons are no longer brick and mortar. The criminal justice system is now administered through technology.
Death sentences are remotely carried out through lethal chemical doses administered through the implanted chips. But the great breakthrough is the individualized prison system. A criminal's brain function is altered, locking him in his own personal prison by inducing fear. It's a reality distortion system. The neuro transmitters in the implanted micro chip alter the reality of the prisoner. He'll imagine himself restricted to say a radial mile. As long as his mind can't go past that mile he's under mile arrest. The transmitter induces anxiety if he approaches the boundary of the mileage restriction. Beyond the mile jolts are fired into his brain. Feels like electric torture. The prisoner will of course run back. The degree of offence will determine the mileage allowance. Misdemeanours get more latitude. Everyone applauds this prison reform. It significantly reduces the cost to the State. The prisoner is still economically useful to society. He feeds himself and there's no need for guards. His employer need not fear. Aggression is controlled through delivery of chemicals. This is a major extension of the field of prisoner control psychology. Solves the guard-prisoner ratio dilemma. In effect the prisoner is physically free but psychologically restricted. In effect the prisoner is physically free but psychologically restricted. Those on parole register conformity via nearby ubiquitous dispensary devices. They simply scan in. In this Orwellian society fear is the real prison guard not humans. The prison is not concrete walls. It's walls in the mind. Of course all these are the copious titillations of a very productive mind. Except for one thing, Satan runs the largest prison system in the world. He has the biggest prison programme on earth. He locked down the entire world with fear by altering the psychological state of Adam through sin. We were only introduced to fear in the Garden of Eden AFTER Adam had sinned. He hid from God in fear. Satan knew the sequence of the fall having fallen himself. He understood fear. He packaged his experience for Adam. He saw the potential of fear as an instrument of control. For a sadistic mindset it's a repressive tool. And so the main damage in the Garden of Eden was psychological damage. Man became fearful . Other evidence of psychological damage is found in the introduction of murder to earth. What we call the "flesh" in Christiandom is actually the altered psychological state of mankind. "The flesh lusteth against the Spirit, the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other." Gal. 5:17. A new thought system was introduced through sin. It's a rebellious system. Completely contrary to God. This alternative thought system supplanted the original and became default. And so we see three major introductions in Genesis after the Fall: death, fear and altered psychology. Jesus came to deliver us from all three. To accomplish his mission he had to become a man. Hebrews 2:14-15 MSG: Since the children are made of flesh and blood, it’s logical that the Savior took on flesh and blood in order to rescue them by his death. By embracing death, taking it into himself, he destroyed the Devil’s hold on death and freed all who cower through life, scared to death of death. And so we see Jesus take on the fear and death combo. You don't need to be afraid of death anymore. Jesus conquered death. When you travel put your mind at rest. Switch off. Jesus has control of the plane, the car, the train, the ferry, whatever. On that plane, on that boat, in that vehicle, on that train, simply commit your life into God's hand. Then go to sleep like Jesus did in the storm. He even had a pillow. Then the saying will come true: "Oh, Death, who’s afraid of you now?.. In a single victorious stroke of Life, all three—sin, guilt, death—are gone, the gift of our Master. 1 Cor. 15:55-57
