Chelsea forward Victor Moses has revealed how former internationals Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha and Nwankwo Kanu talked him into choosing Nigeria over England, especially after he was overlooked by England coaches. The former Crystal Palace sensation was named the Player of the Tournament at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa following his spectacular display as Nigeria won the African title for the third time. Moses played for England from Under-16 to U-21 level and was tipped by former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan to be one of England ’s finest. But unfortunately, U-21 boss Stuart Pearce and former England manager Fabio Capello had little or no interest in Moses. “I played all through the age levels for England and when Nigeria first asked, I wanted to concentrate on my club football,” the 22-year-old told Mirror.co.uk. “Stuart Pearce may have spoken to my agent about England, but he never spoke to me directly and Fabio Capello never spoke to me or showed any interest in me. “Nigeria asked again and it just seemed like the right thing to do. “Jay-Jay Okocha and Kanu encouraged me as well before I started playing for Nigeria and it was great to speak to two legends of the country.” Moses has yet to recover from the excitement of winning the AFCON, and he has set new targets of winning more trophies with club and country. “It was amazing to win the tournament (AFCON). We did it for the nation. It means so much to everyone in Nigeria and it was great for me as well,” he said. “Growing up in Nigeria, football was obviously a lot different. We just played on the streets, often on bare feet, and you used anything you could for a football. “There were no facilities or teams. So it was a lot different when I came to England. “It took me a little while to get used to playing organised games, on proper pitches with all the gear.” Having started at Crystal Palace, Moses joined Wigan for £2.5m before making his summer move to Chelsea where he has already impressed in a club full of stars. “There were a lot of big clubs interested in me when I was at Palace, but Wigan was the right move,” said Moses. “Wigan gave me that chance and after playing in the Premier League for a while, I felt ready to make the next step. “I joined Chelsea to improve and to win some medals. I’m confident both of those things will happen.” http://www.punchng.com/sports/okocha-kanu-made-me-choose-nigeria-moses/ |

Terror groups have begun a recruitment drive in the South-West with the aim of establishing cells in the zone, Saturday PUNCH’s investigations have shown. The recruitment drive by the Boko Haram and its breakaway faction, Jama’atu Ansarul Muslimina Fi Biladis-Sudan, it was gathered, was a prelude to attacks they were planning to launch in the zone. The idea is to establish cells within the South-West to coordinate attacks within the zone by identifying fundamentalists in the area. A security source, who disclosed this, said the plan to move to the South-West, particularly Lagos, was hinged on the economic importance of the zone. Investigations showed that the groups reasoned that attacks on the South-West would not only affect the country’s economy, but could also precipitate ethnic clashes across the country. It was learnt that major towns the groups planned to attack included Lagos, Abeokuta, Ibadan and Osogbo. Investigations showed that the planned attacks would include planting of bombs at public buildings, on roads and outright suicide bombings. Besides Northerners living in the South-West, the groups, it was gathered, were also zeroing in on people from the zone as their potential members. A highly placed security source told one of our correspondents that the terror organisations had hitherto found it difficult to penetrate South-West. He said that they were targeting people from the zone with the hope that such people would assist them in establishing cells in the area. The security source told one of our correspondents that, “There is no doubt terror groups have their eyes on the South-West. Their plan is to spread their activities to the zone, which has a high Muslim population. “People they are planning to recruit include Northerners living in the South-West as well as Yoruba that have the same religious belief with them. It is part of their plan to spread Jihad to Africa.” It was gathered that the attacks were part of measures by the groups to protest Nigeria’s intervention in the Malian crisis. The breakaway faction of Boko Haram, ANSARUL, had on January 19, 2013 claimed responsibility for an attack on Nigerian soldiers going to Mali. The soldiers were attacked near Okenne, Kogi State. In a terse statement posted by an online publication, Dessert Herald, on January 20, a leader of JAMBS, Abu Usamatal Ansary, warned Nigeria and other Africans to be ready for “more difficulties” as they embarked on restoring peace to Mali. The statement had read, “We, members of Jama’atu Ansarul Muslimina Fi Biladis-Sudan, are gladly informing the general public, especially those in black Africa, that with the aid and guidance of Allah, we, on January 19, 2013 at Itape, Ekehi Local Government Area of Kogi State, successfully executed our first attempt in attacking the Nigerian troops that were aiming to demolish the Islamic Empire of Mali. “We are equipped and waiting for any slightest attempt of Nigerian Army moving towards the Islamic Empire of Mali. And we are warning African countries to stop helping Western countries in fighting against Islam and Muslims; if not, we are sternly assuring them, particularly the Nigerian government, to be prepared and be ready to face difficulties from JAMBS anywhere and anytime. May Allah help us and grant our wishes.” On Thursday, an operative of the State Security Service told one of our correspondents that the service was aware of the present move by the terror networks to penetrate the South-West. The source said that the SSS and other security operatives had anticipated the high possibility of those behind the acts of terror to move beyond the northern parts of the country. It was stated that a consciousness of that fact played a role in the recent bursting of a terror cell being sponsored by Iranians. But another security source said there was a growing discomfort among security personnel that the arrangement put in place by the police authorities favoured the move to penetrate other parts of the country. It was stated that the collapse of road blocks across the country in this era of terror was a security miscalculation as the decision would encourage the movement of arms and ammunition and other weapons from one part of the country to the other. The security source stated that those behind the acts of terror could have easily taken advantage of the loose security situation in the South-West to launch similar attacks in the zone from the Sabo settlements being inhabited chiefly by northern Muslims. Top police personalities confirmed that police authorities were aware of the plot. However, the Force Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, was evasive as he refused to comment on what he described as a sensitive security issue. http://www.punchng.com/news/boko-haram-ansaru-target-lagos-others/ |
Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko; his Anambra counterpart, Mr. Peter Obi; and a former Governor of Oyo State, Alhaji Rashidti Ladoja, may soon defect to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party. Competent sources at the national headquarters of the party said on Friday that the party had concluded arrangements to have these men in its fold. Mimiko was a member of the PDP before he defected to the Labour Party in 2006 to contest the governorship election in his state. He had wanted to contest the election under the umbrella of the PDP but then President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo insisted that Dr. Olusegun Agagu would run for a second term. The insistence of Obasanjo made Mimiko to resign his ministerial position and defect to the LP. Though the Independent National Electoral Commission declared Agagu as the winner of the election, the Court of Appeal sitting in Benin later reversed the decision and proclaimed Mimiko the authentic winner. Mimiko, who also defeated other governorship candidates, including that of the PDP, Chief Olusola Oke and that of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Chief Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, in the 2012 governorship election, will be sworn in on Sunday to begin his second term in office. A member of the National Working Committee of the PDP, who spoke in confidence with our correspondent in Abuja on Friday, said discussions had been concluded with Mimiko on his return to the party. Mimiko, he said, would be made the leader of the ruling party in the South-West, with the mandate to reconcile aggrieved members of party in the zone. Not only that, he said the governor, who after defection, would be the only governor of the PDP in the entire six states in the zone, will also be saddled with the responsibility of mobilising for the party in the zone. The source said, “Mimiko is coming to the PDP. That is certain. Though we have not agreed on any date for his official defection, I can tell you authoritatively that we have concluded agreements on this. “His coming would also help us in the South-West because of the coming governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states. We need to win at least one of the two states. “Mimiko is going to be the leader of the party in the zone, because right now, the party is in disarray due to a lot of factions and court cases arising from the zonal congress of the party, which was nullified by the court.” The plan to have Mimiko back in the PDP was said to have been hatched by Chief Ebenezer Babatope and Senator Bode Olajumoke. The two men were said to have convinced President Goodluck Jonathan on the need for Mimiko to return to the party. If he returns, he may do so with members of the LP in both the National Assembly and the Ondo State House of Assembly. However, Mimiko and Obi said they had no plans to dump their respective platforms for the PDP. Ondo State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, said, “There is no iota of truth in the story. It was planted by the opposition to discredit our inauguration. “We are focused on our inauguration and we will not give in to any form of distraction from anybody or group seeking cheap political relevance.” Chief Press Secretary to the Anambra governor, Mr. Mike Udah, said, “Governor Obi is sitting pretty in APGA. He is comfortable in the party. “If he was moving out of APGA, he would not have taken steps to defend APGA, as he has been doing since he returned from his foreign trip, and ensuring that the party’s National Working Committee is reconstituted.” http://www.punchng.com/news/mimiko-ladoja-obi-may-defect-to-pdp/ |

This is what Leadership Newspaper is reporting.( This Information ALLEGEDLY LEAKED FROM A SOURCE CLOSE TO EME) Facts have begun to emerge regarding the real story behind Wizkid and Banky is fallout. The reason is not unconnected with the rising sensational singer being made a cash cow for the EME label. An Insider opened up to Entertainment Rendezvous that Wizzy (his nickname) is at war with Banky W and EME because he wants a contract review which Banky W has refused to grant him. The source pointed out that since Ayodeji Balogun known as Wizkid signed with EME, he has been getting just 25% from whatever he gets paid to perform at an event with Banky W. Empire Mate Entertainment EME is owned by Banky W and Segun Demuren, and Osagie Wizzy’s ex-manager who introduced him to Banky after big record labels like Mo-Hits and Storm records rejected him, also gets 25% each from his hard earned money. “It is true they are having problems and this might just be the end of EME and Wizkid. When Wizzy signed a 2-year contract with EME late in 2009, he saw Banky as his messiah because he was nobody in the music industry. It was a 50-50 sharing formula. Then Wizkid didn’t mind because he was bent on building his musical career. In his contract, Banky W promised to take care of his accommodation, feeding and also his school and based on this fact, Wizkid accepted all the terms of agreement. Later, Wizzy sacked his manager, Osagie replacing her with Godwin because he felt she was getting too much. Wizkid was getting just 25% from every show because Banky W would take 50% while Osagie was taking 25%. Wizzy sacked Osagie because she was not ready to receive 10% which other management companies were taking from artistes. This development obviously did not go down well with Banky W but because Wizzy was close to the end of his contract with EME, Banky gave in. When Wizkid’s contract expired late last year, he wanted a contract review requesting the 50-50 sharing formula to be reviewed to 70-30 but Banky would not accept his proposal. This issue had been dragging since September 2012 and that could have explained why Wizkid moved out of Banky’s Ogudu GRA residence and got a new apartment in Lekki. What got Wizzy miffed was that he was making all the money for EME and was getting less. Also, the money being made was being used to finance the project of other EME stars namely, Niyola, Skales and Shaydee.” Apparently Wizkid’s international fame gave him more confidence to stand out on his own. Riding on this platform, he signed a management deal with Disturbing London, an international management company. Right now, his second Album is ready and it is with Banky W. Wizzy is bent on leaving if they don’t agree with his terms and float his own label STARBOI Records. Banky W may not have given their side of the story but insiders noted that Banky has spent a lot to make Wizkid who he is now. He feels Wizkid is not grateful and has forgotten where he was coming from. If you were in Wizzy”s shoes what would you have done ?http://tooxclusive.com/2013/02/20/wizkid-and-bankyw-the-sharing-formula/ |
