genieluv: Hmm, i used to think they were amhara. I guess i have really been enlightened.
**** Do amharas n Tigrays celebrate special cultural festivals or ceremonies together?
N also, what if there is an inter-ethnic wedding between couples, which culture will be observed in the wedding?
Amhara and Tigray have a lot of similarity. Been googling for Oromo and Amhara wedding ceremony but only Tigray's ceremony is avaiable. Amharas and Tigrays don't celebrate any festival together.
It doesn't matter of which wedding ceremony they are going to follow if they inter-mary. They will agree on a particular type of ceremony. It doesn't matter much
genieluv: Kk. Here are some Habesha pictures i found online. These clothes look bulkier than the normal ones. Is it a wedding ceremony? Is it amhara or tigray?
yes, it is a wedding ceremony of Tigray.
Did you know a British designer named Alexander Mcqueen made the exact kaba (the gown the bride and groom wore) and said he designed it him self?? Ethiopians and Eritreans went wild on him cuz this is our traditional cloth.
All he's saying is that he is a proud Ethiopian that will never betray Ethiopia cuz Ethiopia is poor. That he always wishes Ethiopia best things and that she will pass all the obstacles and become the Greatest even if the world look down on her. And that he will do anything for her and give up on her.
okay, Oromo ppl were pagans back then but Amharas were strict Christians. Amhara and Oromo use to be peaceful but a man called Gragn Ahmed changed many things. Amharas (christians) were rulling but Gragn Ahmed came to rule Ethiopia by defeating the Amharas to make Ethiopia a muslim state. Surprisingly, Oromo ppl supported him to fight against Amharas and destroy them. The fight become wayyyyyy serious. Amharas called portugal to be by their side then Ahmed had the Ottoman Turks on his team. Amhara ppl were lossing but at the Eleventh hour, they won and told the Oromo ppl to leave Ethiopia immediately. So the oromo ppl migrated to different countries including Kenya but nothing like home. They came back to ET but Amharas pain couldn't heal. They offended the Oromo ppl for a long time. And they didn't consider or respect them as Ethiopians cuz it was a betrayal. This history is what is still causing pain for both tribes.
Nowenuse: No, i don't think it is just because of these video clips. I follow a lot of amhara, somali, Tigray and Oromo pages on instagram. I have also watched lots of musics and cultural clips from various horn african groups before passing this judgement.
9jakool: I like Eskista, it looks really fast. There is also this one dance from the Shewa Oromo that looks pretty cool; they shake their head really fast.
Abush zekele is one of my favorite Ethiopian singer. I've listened to Amootee and Fullanneey. I came across him by accident.
9jakool: Thank you for all the nice comment and for promoting our music!
btw timaya have once mentioned me after I commented on him African music or at the very least the Nigerian afrobeat is a genre that stands out on its own. It's a combination of African and Western Music styles and it uses . The legendary late Fela Kuti is often regarded as the father of afrobeat. He was a man from a different era because he was so progressive for his time. In his music, he uses his native Yoruba instruments like shekere and drums as well as western instuments like saxophone and guitar. He often performs his concerts shirtless.
His son, Femi Kuti, also a musician just made history having held the longest note on a saxophone.
genieluv: Holly I loved the Tigringa musics. I also observed that they do not do the eskita. Instead they were turning their heads n leaping... Is eskita exclusively Amhara?
****The traditional hairstyles the women were carrying in the 3rd video, is that hairstyle exclusively Tigringa? I also observed that they were feeding each other when they were eating in this 3rd video. Is that an Habesha culture?
Wow, The guys in the first video are cute . I think i am now beginning to observe physical differences between Tigrays n Habeshas. I am also observing accent differences in Tigrinya n Amhara languages. Thanks for the videos.
Yes, that is the hair style of Tigray ppl.
But feering each other is the cultur of the whole Ethiopians. We call it Gursha. You might have not noticed but there is the same thing on yene habesha video
Nowenuse: Ednited & Hati13 I saw this picture on an Oromo online page? Is this Oromo flag? Can you guys please brief me about the oromo struggle/liberation movement?
Yes, it is the Oromo flag. They had a big struggle and fight with Amhara ppl specialy.
If you want to know why they fighted with Amharas, I will tell you
genieluv: Kk, buh the hairstyle looks so cool on the man. I love it. He is handsome . Your people also look slimmer compared to we other black africans.
***I will check out skales, you seem to know so many Nigerian artistes?. Lol
Are there other habesha dance steps?
Not only Nigerian, but I hear songs from most of the countries in the continent.
We are slimmer, and shorter
you can make ur own Eskista. There be no step for that. Just shake it!
genieluv: Well, hello and good riddance white boy from manchester!
>>>>I would rather take pride in any african attires from any african country than jeans!
Hati13 n Ednited. It seems like these attires below are Oromo attires? aren't they? I consider them very beautiful, colourful n they have lots of pattern n styles.
Yes, Oromo's traditional clothes has many different pattern
Nowenuse: Kenyans have no culture and it's such a shame! So, they usually get so pissed off whenever they see other Africans celebrating and admiring culture.
TayserMahiri, mtis, NairobiWalker, Jay254 and co, you guys should learn from your fellow east africans here. Watch their musics and learn how African cultures must be promoted!
I have been challenged here by their Ethiopian songs, no matter how modern these Ethiopian songs looked, the culturak rhythms, dance steps, cultures and sounds are always present.
I have always come across modern cultural musics from Uganda and mainland Tanzania, especially Uganda and none from Kenya. Are Kenyans Europeans? Why don't you guys just relocate to Scandinavia or Western Europe if that is the case?
Here are some beautiful modern cultural songs from Uganda! Ednited and Hati13, you guys should check them out. I find the dance steps very beautiful
kaylinda: Wow, i love the direction this thread is now going and i must say i am delighted. Ednite and Hati13, i am also a lover of horn african culture. I listened to some of the songs you guys showed genieluv and i loved them. May i confess that you guys have a very beautiful musical rhythmn. It's so nice and cool. It is also very cultural. Kudos to you guys!
Hati13: First, I met him in our new year eve in Sheraton hotel. He greeted me and asked my name. I told him and he talked little about my father. Second, after celebrating the 25 years anniversary of ANDM(Amhara national democratic movement) in Bahir Dar in 1998 EC, I traveled with him by plane to Addis. We greeted but not chatted that time.
Are you relative of Teddy cousin?
Glad you met Haile. Not many will have that chance.
I've seen Haile Gebreselassie brother in Bole on time and I tell you, they are almost look like him. I don't know if they are twins, but it's hard to differentiate them.
Wow, Respect for you too Hati13
I bet I had him in my graduation too
My mom's best friend daughter is married to his cousin. That's all
My mom's other friend is also the God mother of Gediyon Zelalem (former Arsenal Ethiopian player)
