genieluv: I love the Eskita dance, it looks cool n fun
*****Here is a song i came across by Teddy Afro. I really loved the way the guy was trying to woo the lady n he was doing the Eskita for her! .....Is that the way it is done in ET?
I also noticed the hairstyle the guy was carrying, do Habesha males keep such bulky hairstyles? It looks cool buh i mostly see it on only the ladies. What is the hairstyle called?
It's my first time seeing such a hairstyle on man. And it's how Eskista is done
Skales have also posted dancing Eskista on his instagram page.
**** i don't think there can ever be a redemption to the westernization of our musics. We can only infuse little elements of culture n our languages into our music at most.
Buh, outside entertainment, Nigerians flaunt their cultural attires very well and are very proud of them. Have you noticed this?
yes, you are very right. I have noticed it but what I want to say is that there's a difference. . .a big one between ET and NG songs.
I can't watch majority NG songs freely around eldery ppl. Because of some of the dance moves and the how the girls dress up in the video
But you are creative, the way you make the clip attractive is something i can't pass with out admiring. We don't have that. . .you guys go very international but we just surround ET
genieluv: Really? It seems like there are so so many musicians in ET. Cos, the more i searched, the more i found so many beautiful musics.
**** I also wanted to ask you n Hati13. Do Ethiopian artistes shoot their music videos abroad? Cos the background, city n suburban areas i see in some of these videos are extremely beautiful n do not even look like African cities.
If they are all in Ethiopia, then OMG! Ethiopia is damn beautiful !
I feel like you are watching Video clips which are shooted abroad. But not all are shooted there. Different places of ET vary in look
All the songs av recommended you on the Tigray and Oromo songs; only Fiyameta is shooted in US. The others are shooted here
****Biafra agitation in Nigeria by the Igbo people is serious, buh it's not as serious as you think it is to the extent of sparking a war, no it's not.
I am not from the Igbo speaking axis, people like arinzeejikonye, maduawuchukwu n some others on this thread are, so they are in best position to receive your words.
**** You know dear, threats for seccesion in big african countries like yours n mine are almost inevitable. Nigeria has experienced a civil war before were millions of lives were lost on this same Biafran seccession, so most of us know the implications of war.
>>>>Most African ethnicities were forced under political boundaries by the colonialists and in Ethiopia's case by old empire boundaries e.t.c
Okay, I tot it was serious cuz the 'Biafra' word is everywhere in this forum. Was just putting my own effort to see a peaceful Nigeria forever
Hati13: What! I'm happy for you. How do you got there? When will his cousin going to marry?
And btw, I've shaken hand and talked to our previous PM Meles Zenawi in the past.
Really??,?? How??
Av met Teddy Afro on his cousin's wedding. His cousin now have kid and I went to their house for his kid baptism to meet Teddy Afro again but they told me Teddy have left few minutes ago.
Av just shaken hand with Athlete Haile Gebreselassie. . .not that lucky to shake a PM's hand. lol
Hati13: Others consider him among the greatest Ethiopian singer. But for me, he is the greatest ever of all. He wrote all his songs, he created all his melodies and his voice is excellent.
He love Ethiopia so much and even commented that Atse(emperor) Menelik II expansion to SW, S and SE was a great deed. This comment angered some unpatriotic Oromos and other south peoples.
Av met Teddy Afro in a wedding btw. His cousin was the one to get married
TayserMahiri: You're right about Ethiopians. The way you see them behaving here Hati and Ednite is pretty much how they are on the streets. Humble people, no wonder they maintained their culture, identity and empire for thousands of years. You dont do that by being arrogant.
Here are more cool Ethiopian musics i came across. Are these popular musics/artistes?
Can you both do the dancing n shaking of shoulders? cos this seems like the most common Amhara dance steps. Or not?
*** How popular are Oromo, Tigray n Somali musics/artistes in Adis Ababa? Do you guys listen to them?
The dance move is called -ESKISTA
I started Eskista since I was a kid. I was really good at it but the more I grow is the less I Eskis. I think I got shy when I grow up, I stopped doing it
We still hear Oromo and Tigray songs. Addis Ababa is a city of diversity. Every tribe lives in here. If you go to other city for example, they only hear their own tribe song. Addis Ababa is a welcoming city to all.
Seriously, i have fallen in love with Ethiopians today
****Your music n culture is so amazing! And what beats me the most is how you guys manage to always represent Ethiopian culture in all your musics.
>>>>I think most other africans should learn from you guys on how to infuse their cultures into their music. Our musics are becoming too westernized for God's sake. We seem to have largely abandoned our cultural rhythmns n sounds to a large extent. Just see how all your musics clearly reflect your cultural rhythms. It's quite unfortunate on our parts. I hope we start to retrace our steps soon enough.
I will show these Ethiopian songs to my friends n families.
Yes, your music is highly westernized. Av also created a topic on this 'my worry on african music'
Thank you for all the nice comment and for promoting our music!
btw timaya have once mentioned me after I commented on him
genieluv: I have downloaded YENE HABESHA song. I really love it!
****Pls, what does it mean? Can you summarize the song for me to understand?
Was Abby lakew born n bred in the US? Cos i could notice a slight westernization of her accent compared to other Ethiopian singers. If yes, then how come she speaks n sings Amharic so well n beautifully?
She was born here and she also lived here. She is pure Ethiopian. She sings softly, that's why yoj thought she have a different accent.
yene habesha - means my habesha
all she was saying is that she was waiting for a habesha man to fall for and she got him. And that she has now understand how it is like to fall in love and that she won't go anywhere but rather stay with him untill the end.
While i was checking out n downloading the musics you guys proferred for me on youtube, i stumbled on these great Ethiopian music videos below n i loved them so much. **** Do you guys know these artistes/musics?
Isahalbash: I don't think d biafra agitators will tk ur advice.
It's really hard getting back to track after that I swear. Just because they have seen Ethiopia fyn now, it doesn't mean they will. It took us morethan 20 years to be peaceful and have this economy. Even still, we have 99 problems
genieluv: Holly this is interesting. The awards are Nigerian by origin n it's unfortunate that i don't follow them. I only mostly follow the AMVCA's (Africa magic viewers choice awards). Do you follow this award? Apparently it's the biggest in Africa buh am not 100% sure.
****On what channels do you follow these african awards if i may ask?
This actor n actress are very beautiful . They look like a couple together .
>>>>Are Ethiopian movies usually on youtube?
I will check that Award show. The Actor and Actress are just friends. They have their own kids. They are married to different ppl.
I don't sit and follow these award shows i just hear entertainment newses and keep my self active on instagram pages and other social medias related to that. I think you'll get Ethiopian movies on youtube.
But the biggest Video provider in Ethiopia is Dire tube. You can check our movies there
genieluv: Kk. Buh why is your country so rural if i may ask? As an ancient country, i much expected to see ancient cities which would have been merged with modern ones to form mega cities in ET. ****Where did it go wrong?
It's hard to know the reason. But drought, dictatorship and WAR made Ethiopia backward. Please negotiate with your Birafran friends to stop the war. Famine has entered Nigeria because of Boko Haram. You are also lossin $. And there is Biafra waiting. . . . guys, you need to take care. You need to think serious on this. All the ancient Ethiopia have passed through is now what you are passing through. Sometimes when u see bad things that have happend to a person (like poverty) you might not think you might be next. We are telling you from now so you guys won't end up like us.
oladeebo: op for your notice; this is exactly Biafra:
Portuguese biafra Founded by Portuguese slave traders around 1500AD-1800AD to facilitate the business of slave trade in the Niger coast, Portuguese merchants contact igbo in the mid 1500AD in the jungle of Cameroon/Gabon/Equatorial Guinea! At the time of slave trade boom igbo served the Portuguese with the people of Benin kidnapped in the forest and sold them to Portuguese! Igbo cross into Benin kingdom area ambushed their victims kidnapped them and take them to the Portuguese biafra and sold them their! When Slave trade abolished in 1807! No more business as usual in Portuguese biafra, the biafra Portuguese dead and igbo with out other business begin to move to where they've been ambushed people for slave trade and settled there, scatter in the forest as there is no center government for them, that's where the British mobilized them and included them into the Nigeria Southern protectorate in 1900! till today igbo still what they were since then, and that's why they find it hard to accept being in a setting government like that of Nigeria! And all the character of kidnapping is still there playing by igbo even today. When British enter interior of Nigeria territory they ruled Norther and Southern protectorate, in 1900 they included igbo into the southern protectorates before merge the Northern and Southern protectorates together in 1914! In which igbo were British subjects till today! Here is the origin of igbo!
Thank you so much for all the details! So you are telling me the Government is also the problem. I am tired of this I swear! Eritreans and Ethiopians didn't want to fight! The govts fighted then here we are. Shouldn't the people choose? A country belongs to all. Not just for the govt. People must decide for such very important things. This is sad really . . .
QueenOfNepal: I thought Kenya are East Africa powerhouse
What is the major forex earner for Ethiopia?
Can you elaborate more about Orthodox Religion
Why are the Oromos sidelined?
It was Kenya for a long time, but interms of Military strength and also Economy, Ethiopia is the powerhouse
Ethiopia's economy is mainly dependent on Agriculture. Coffee export in Ethiopia is as Oil export in Nigeria.
The Orthodox religion in Ethiopia was and still being practiced highly in the country. The number might change but Addis Ababa have 70% of it's citizens Orthodox Christian. The religion was introduced in Ethiopia long ago. But Ethiopians practice the religion their own way. Ethiopians call it 'Orthodox tewahdo'. Tewahdo means mixed. Our bible is written in Ge'ez and Amharic language
And what do you mean with sidelined? you mean isolated?
genieluv: Am thrilled i must say. We need more of these from Horn africa (well, lemme just say Ethiopia, cos Sudan, Somalia & Eritrea are like no go zones here, courtesy to extreme islamism, wars et al).
****Which african music award are you talking of?
AAMA, It was hosted by Nigeria or South Africa. I forgot
Our movie, 'triangle' also took 3 awards in African Academy Movie Award
for- best supporting Actor - best sound track and - special jury award
and also took the pan African film festival in Los Angeles
and also another award from Rwanda Movie Award
BEST ACTOR AND ACTRESS AWARD IN NACFA (AFRICAN OSCAR) WAS BOTH TAKEN BY ETHIOPIANS
MtuMsuper: Nice song, i don't have to understand Amharic to enjoy it, i only have to understand music. I noticed something with all ethio music videos i have ever seen : the dancing by shaking the shoulder thingy. Very unique to the horn. And of course, coffee and Ethiopians, never far from each other! If you ask me, and am not a music guru, there is also a different baseline and beat unique to Ethiopia. This leads me to the question : These MTV best African music awards should be considered a sham because African music is soo diverse in every ramification, who does these awards serve and for what purpose?
It was created to let Africans interact with music, and it is made for Africa but yes ET has different beat but still. . our work need to be recognized
