Nollywood stars such as, Victoria Inyama, Georgina Onuoha have reacted to the arrest of hundred gay men by the Delta Police Command in the state.


The suspects were allegedly carrying out a gay wedding ceremony in a hotel in Delta state.

The Command in a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, said it would parade the suspects shortly.


Reacting to the development, the movie stars condemned outrightly the arrest of the young men set to be paraded by the police for being gay.

Veteran actress, Georgina Onuoha berated the police for the arrest of the young men.


According to her, the force should hold politicians and pastors accountable for the anger and poverty ravaging the country and leave gay people alone.

She said: “Leave these people alone. They did not kill, steal or harm anyone. They are not the cause of Nigeria’s demise and predicaments. Let them live their lives.

“You that are busy committing fraud, sleeping around with married men and women, lying etc You are no better than these folks living their lives.

“Until many of you work in the medical field and understand the mechanisms behind sexual orientation, you will continue to live by the preachings of hate many con artist who call themselves pastors have poured into you as preachings.

“I laugh at the stupidity of some Nigerians who still believe that sin has categories and being “gay” is the worst of.. You are only deceiving yourself. In the eyes of God, sin is sin and many of you indulge in worst sins.

“I have a poignant question for you Nigerians, Do you think God will give you trophy if you harm or kill any of these people he created in his image and likeness? You will be hailed for committing murder? And you think God will welcome you with his open arms?

“What most of you practice is not. Christianity, you are practicing hate and bigotry. If for any reason you think this is a “western culture ” being brought to Nigeria, then you are the most ignorant of them all. Street singer Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, has taken to his Instagram page to express his affection for the Nigerian police. The singer shared a video of police officers visiting his bar in Sango and declared his love for them.

After spending three days in detention at the Ilaro Correctional Centre, Portable was released upon meeting his bail conditions. The Ifo Magistrate Court granted him bail of N300,000 with two sureties who must possess landed properties in the vicinity of the court. He was released after his bail bond was presented at the correctional center.

Two of the four rescued Nigerian stowaways have narrated how they survived 14 days on a ship’s rudder by drinking their urine before being rescued off the coast of Brazil.

According to Daily Mail, the two men told their remarkable, death-defying journey across 3,500 miles (5,600 kilometres) of open ocean from Lagos, Nigeria to Vitória, Brazil.

The four stowaways were said to be fleeing the economic hardship and political instability in Nigeria and reportedly climbed into a space above the rudder of a cargo ship and hoped to reach Europe.

However, after two weeks of travelling, they ran out of food and water and in a bid to survive, resorted to drinking their urine and seawater as the ship pushed on towards South America.

Chronicling the challenges experienced during the journey, one of the stowaways, Thankgod Yeye, 38, in a report by the Daily Mail, said it was a terrible incident.

“It was a terrible experience for me. On board, it is not easy. I was shaking, so scared. But I’m here,” he said.

On his part, another victim, Roman Friday, 35, said they rigged up a net around the rudder to stop themselves falling in, adding that he saw “big fish like whales and sharks” in the ocean.

The Daily Mail reports that the victims were interviewed at a Sao Paolo church shelter after the ordeal, adding that they were finally rescued by Brazilian federal police in the southeastern port of Vitória two weeks after setting off on June 27.

It was learnt that due to the cramped conditions and the noise of the engine, sleeping was rare and risky.

Friday said, “I was very happy when we got rescued. I pray the government of Brazil will pity me.”

It was learnt that two of the rescued victims have since been returned to Nigeria upon their request, but Yeye and Friday were said to have applied for asylum in Brazil, citing economic hardship, political instability and crime as reasons for abandoning Nigeria.

According to the Daily Mail, Yeye, a Pentecostal minister from Lagos state, said his peanut and palm oil farm was destroyed by floods this year, leaving him and his family homeless.

As for Friday, he said his journey to Brazil began on June 27, when a fisherman friend rowed him up to the stern of the Liberian-flagged Ken Wave, docked in Lagos, and left him by the rudder where he found three men already waiting for the same ship to depart.

A priest at the Sao Paulo shelter, Father Paolo Parise, said he had come across other cases of stowaways, but never one so dangerous.

Three suspects have been paraded at the Osun State Police Command's headquarters for their alleged involvement in an attack on a Celestial Church located in Odu Village near Osogbo. The incident occurred during a vigil in the early hours of Tuesday.

According to reports, the attackers targeted the church during the vigil, leading to the abduction of 12 church members. Fortunately, the victims managed to escape when they encountered hunters and local volunteers who responded to a distress call.

During the attack, a female member of the church was reportedly subjected to a terrible ordeal, but her identity was not disclosed.

Esther Ayodeji, a musician who had been invited to perform at the vigil by the pastor in charge, provided an account of what transpired. She arrived at the church a few minutes after 10 pm on Monday to prepare for the vigil, which commenced around midnight. After her performance, she stepped out, leaving her drummers inside the church.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, advised religious organizations to avoid conducting late-night or early-morning programmes, especially in remote locations. The three arrested suspects found near the scene are currently under interrogation.

In addition to the church attack, the police also paraded other suspects, including those arrested for being members of unlawful societies and involvement in armed robbery. Adebayo Adedayo and Adeyemi Sodiq were apprehended for attacking a business owner in Iragbiji, stealing cash and items valued at N877,000.

Furthermore, Yusuf Baoku and Ajayi Ismail, who were arrested for attempted murder and membership in an unlawful society, along with other suspects, will face legal charges following the completion of the investigation.

During his sermon on Sunday, July 16th, Pastor Adeboye acknowledged the circulating reports about the source of his powers.

Rather than engaging directly with the accuser, he chose to pray for the individual, recognizing that they have committed an unpardonable sin.

Pastor Adeboye explained that attributing the glory meant for God to demons is an unforgivable offense.

In response to the increasing food inflation following the removal of fuel subsidy, President Bola Tinubu has declared a state of emergency on food security in Nigeria. He has also directed that all matters related to food and water availability and affordability be included in the purview of the National Security Council.

The government intends to use some of the savings from the fuel subsidy removal to revamp the agricultural sector, with a focus on doubling the percentage of employment in agriculture from 35.21% to about 70% in the long term.

Immediate interventions will include the release of fertilizers and grains, and a synergy between the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Water Resources to ensure adequate irrigation of farmlands and year-round food production. The government plans to utilize 11 out of Nigeria’s 12 river basins for irrigation schemes, guaranteeing continuous farming production throughout the year.

To regulate food prices, the government will establish a National Commodity Board that will review and assess food prices while maintaining a strategic food reserve. This board will help stabilize critical grain prices and moderate fluctuations. The government will also engage its security architecture to protect farms and farmers, ensuring their safety and enabling them to return to their farmlands without fear of attacks.

Regarding livestock farming, the government will partner with states to create ranches and grazing reserves. The Federal Government will cover the cost of land for these ranches, and land banks nationwide, totaling 500,000 hectares, will be activated to increase the availability of arable land for farming.

Anite, a member of the Presidential Advisory Council, clarified that the distribution of grains to farmers and households would be free of charge, funded by the savings from the fuel subsidy removal. The Central Bank of Nigeria has also advised middlemen withholding grains to release their supplies, as prices are expected to fall when the government begins distributing grains.
