Even nairaland moderators has turned seun's creation into anti-Jonathan blog. Sold out cheaply. There is nothing good about Jonah ever made a front page. I will keep calling these guys out because nairaland is supposed to be for all Nigerians no matter our views and affiliations. I will never stop supporting Jonathan, he already had my vote come 2015. Hit like to show your support for Jonathan. |
Have you even seen any Rivers youth protesting for Amaechi ?. He is on his own at the moment and its very clear Rivers people don't like him. He knows this time around; and his cup overfull now even if he survives this one; he would come out seriously bruised and bloodied. Forget all the nonsense you read in the papers .. Amaechi has used Rivers money to compromise the press; and the National Assembly. Even Channels TV, I am disappionted . We all saw the silly videos that were shown; they just had to show something and still there was no way they could lie that Ameachi wasn't present. The Press were given big money to edit the videos and remove Amaechi's visual. We all saw how he over saw the beating of lawmakers who had a right to impeach the speaker. Amaechi knew the speaker was to be impeached on that day not by the five as claimed in the press. There were over 18 Law makers present when the impeachment happened but the press ignored all that because Amaechi gave them money. What was his business there ?. If Jonathan rushes down to the Senate to stop the impeachment of Mark; and his ADC beats up Senator Smart Adeyemi ; I wonder ACN's and CPC's reaction. They broke people's head; and still took this same pressmen to the hospital to video and take pictures of them as victims. These daft pressmen followed like mumu. how can five beat up 27 ?. We saw how his ADC was attempting murder and the ACN is on his side? Just see what he wants to be using the police commissioner for . Amaechi is angry with the commissioner not because he is not working but because Mbu has decided to be neutral and he's not playing along with his dictatorial plans. But this same Amaechi has unconstitutionally suspended elected local government chairmen who were also elected like him. If Jonathan removes Amaechi; would it then be justified ?. What is good for the Jew ; is good for Uganda. All frog eyed Tinubu and Aliyu Babangida wants to know is that he is NGF Chairman ( The enemy of my enemy is my friend ). Rotimi; you now belong to ACN; PDP say they don't want you. How can people in Lagos who know nothing about what is happening on ground be more worried and concerned than Rivers people who are saying it serves him right?. You get your info from newspapers and APC conspiracy theorist ;does that not show you d press have been compromised and Amaechi's money in Lai Mohammed's bank account ?. We are on ground and in the politics of Rivers; Amaechi has no political base because of his arrogance and got to this position with Wike's Political machinery. Rivers people are arrogant and no send am and won't follow him. Wike is the Oga on top at the moment and everybody knows that. Amaechi is UNDEMOCRATIC and should be dealt with UNDEMOCRATICALLY. STOP TAKING PANADOL FOR RIVERS PEOPLES HEADACHE AND STOP FORCING AMAECHI ON US. HE IS OYO ( ON YOUR OWN ) |
Demdem: The op sounds daft. Not that he is daft. His post made no sense at all. Then while are you hear, should have passed by, I think you should make out your own opinion so we can see and argue. |
kaze4blues: I repeat again...ur life is so pathetic. And I said again you re an idiot, fool.go to bed while your house burn, people not meant to be hear, , politics of this nation should give a concerned citizens sleepless nights, all you know is go that place they pay you pin nut as a salary. And I said again I don't need your correction, go and correct Amaechi, |
drnoel: Are u sure the men were sent by GEJ or do u just read any meaning u want to just cos u want to believe it. As far as I know, it could be amaechi stage managing everything after all he came out unscared or it could even be that the 5 lawmakers took matter into their own hands just to teach amaechi a lesson. From GEJ's xter after seeing how he has reacted in the past from criticism (I mean the man is not new to criticism), I don't think he sent those 5Well said!! |

Watch the video then you will see chidi hitting another members with the maze, video can't lie. |
dayokanu: Tell us examples of how Amaechi has not been respecting Jonathan?Mind you I don't do copy and paste, if Amaechi is respecting the president then while all these fight, is the Amaechi only Governor in Nigeria? Can Amaechi disturbed the governance of OBJ if it where his time.Let me tell you the root of this fight, Amaechi is rooting for Lamido of Jigawa for the office of the president with hope he be offered a vp slot, if not for this reason then tell why Amaechi fight, he is on his last term of office, so why fighting the president, Obi of Anambra and that of lagos and many others are in their final term. What does it take to say am sorry to Jonathan and face your work in Rivers if not that to fight the president because he knows he is not coming back to office again. |
GOV ROTIMI AMAECHI'S DEADLY! A MUST READ!!The 7 Deadly Sins Of Governor Rotimi Amaechi However, Amaechi bears a chunk of the blame. I see the creeping rise of the governor’s churlishness, that pettiness which tarred my first impression of him eight or so years ago. But he has been fortunate. He is self serving and lacks a sense of proportion, yet we all – especially the media – continue to cut him so much slack.Last 3 weeks in Ekiti, he spoke at the Symposium for Young and Emerging Leaders, and all his excesses were on full display again. It was a painful thing to watch. Amaechi was unprepared – he said so himself. But whereas for others, that might have served as a cautionary marker to watch what comes out of their mouth; for him it was a licence to run amok. It is unbecoming of the governor to use every given opportunity to throw barbs at the president.Hear him: “On fuel subsidy, what have we done? A lot. That’s why they want to remove me as chairman of the Governor’s Forum. They face a radical chairman that’s why they want me removed.” Interestingly, in 2012, when they – meaning President Jonathan – took the bold, mistimed, callous decision to remove subsidy on fuel and the whole nation was about to combust, all the fingers pointed to Aso Rock. Amaechi and the other governors in the NGF from all parties, the instigators, remained strategically silent, allowing the president take the hits on their behalf. To be clear, Amaechi never said he was opposed to the removal, but no one heard him come out to speak forcefully in backing the president. When labour leaders met with him during the Occupy protest in Rivers, he said, “Please let’s bear with the president, we have only one country.”Do not forget that it was Amaechi that lead other Governors in threatening the Federal Government to remove the subsidy, as they claimed that states are starved of funds. In the midst of it, he announced a N4 subsidy, slashing the price from N141 to N137 in Rivers, and asking that motorists cut fares which had increased following the subsidy removal. And that’s exactly how he does it – by playing both ways. On the one hand he announced the laughable N4 subsidy and the bus fare slash, small gestures intended to show that he was making motion; securing his ‘lovability.’ Behind the scene however, he maintained pressure on the president to stay firm and not budge to the people’s demands, and he was at the forefront of the hawks who clamoured for soldiers to be deployed to Ojota (he mockingly said so himself at the symposium.) Let’s hear more quotes from Amaechi: “Because government is the biggest enterprise in the country, that’s why when the president enters, everybody catches cold, so that’s why I keep getting advise ‘Amaechi don’t talk again oo…’” and “I went to Turkey with the president and that’s the last trip I went with him. They don’t like taking me to travel with them…” and “They’ve threatened me with the EFCC, they’ve hunted me, there’s nothing they’ve not threatened me with… If I was not a governor with immunity, they would have taken me down.”Did I mention that people cheered him on? But of course! We love the “me” vs. “them” stories which Amaechi tells so well. His “David” vs. “Goliath” epics, in which he is always the “David” with his tongue for a sling and haughty words for stones, felling every giant in sight. But while he ‘photoshops’ his narration of his records, he cannot photoshop our memories. And we remember that it was he who pushed for the noxious Rivers Governor and Deputy Governor Fringe Benefits Bill last year which entitles all Rivers ex-governors and their ex-deputies to two houses in Rivers and Abuja, three new vehicles to be replaced yearly, 300 per cent funding for any furniture of their choice, pension equivalent to the annual basic salary of the incumbent governor or deputy, amongst other benefits. These bills of course would be footed by the Rivers taxpayer. The assembly members couldn’t dare oppose the bill. You see, part of Amaechi’s ‘maverism’ is that he doesn’t tolerate dissent. Imagine if it was Jonathan who had proposed and signed such an obscene law – Verily, verily I say unto you, the nation would have known no peace. When you hear Amaechi describe Jonathan as a “dictator”, you wonder if it’s not the same Amaechi who sacked 11 duly elected local government chairmen because they failed to attend a meeting at the Governors’ Office. When you hear him claim to be a Marxist and a radical socialist opposed to the ‘greed of capitalism’, you wonder if it’s not the same guy who six months ago blew $45 million to procure a new Bombardier jet. Today, it is exposed that the plan still belong to the American sellers and one should ask, what happened to $45million that belong to Rivers tax payers? The answer is obvious.Oh, and by the way, in Ekiti, when he saw a small reference to the absurdity of his jet purchase in an Enough is Enough (EiE) flyer which was distributed at the event, he simply accused the executive director of EiE, Yemi Adamolekun, of “trying to incite people against me. Tomorrow when you come and ask me to carry you in my jet, I won’t.” “Hahahahaha,” roared the audience. Our maverick has spoken. So in essence, Amaechi has a blank cheque – he can say whatever he likes (“kidnapping can be seen as a form of redistribution of wealth”), change positions whenever he likes (“Orubebe is an incompetent minister”/January 2013; “Orubebe is a transformational leader”/March 2013), and still have everyone in his corner. What a charmed life! He’s the only one who can condemn oppression and claim to be an oppressor while making the same speech, and be applauded both times because he is just being himself, he speaks his mind, and he is a maverick. No, no, no, he is a politician, people! He should be judged on a case by case basis and the press should not be too quick to make excuses for him. The governor is not incompetent and he is by no means a failure. If any comparison is made between him and the president, only the deliberately mischievous can claim that Jonathan has been a better performer. But it’s time to tell him that he hasn’t done anything extraordinary, that he is taking his eyes off the ball, that his double speak and double mindedness would not go unchallenged henceforth and that for some time Rivers people have been reaping thorny fruits of his neglect. It’s time for someone to tell Gov. Amaechi that he talks too much, that he needs to tone down on his self-serving arrogance and that next time he feels the need to criticise President Jonathan, he should go right ahead, but only after removing the Iroko trunk in his own eyes. Abagworo: Amaechi never disrespected Jonathan. Rather it was Jonathan's wife that has been treating Amaechi like a school boy. Jonathan might be a good man but his inability to control his wife shows his inherent weakness and lack of leadership qualities. He was born a follower and became a leader by mistake or luck. Amaechi only represented the interest of the Governors in some issues which differs with that of the FG but he did the right thing by being truthful about what majority of Governors want. He complained about the suffering of Rivers people because of the lackluster pace of work on East-West Road and Orubebe claimed it was an insult on the President. Now tell me what else Amaechi has done to warrant all these persecution? Ikwerre people believe in "Owhuo nu ogu" which has served as the basis for dealings with your fellow men and judgement by the Gods. Amaechi has his flaws as a man but "ojirila GEJ owhuo".Abagworo read this. |
Abagworo: Chidi Lloyd was on vengeance to his own earlier hit. Jonathan is the man that needs to be impeached for attempting to use 5 men against 22 to impeach a speaker. This is a tip of the iceberg with what is going to happen in 2015. You cannot win oly 30% and declare yourself winner and sponsor killing of youth corpers to gain sympathy. It won't work and there will rather be war than the will of the people suppressed. God bless Nigeria. Why are you accusing Jonathan now, , Amaechi should respect the office of the president, Abagworo let me ask you a question be honest, ie you are the CEO of company and a staff let say MD is disrespecting you and your authority and he will not allow to work, what do you think should happen. He who wears the shoe knows where it hurts, Jonathan should be left alone. |
After watch that shameless video of Rivers State house of assembly, which I watched more than 50times Chidi Lloyd the so called majority leader hitting other lawmakers with maze shows how wicked man can be to his fellow man, this people are supposed to the future leaders of this country but look at where we are now.Chidi Lloyd must be punished, if it is true that Amaechi is there watching then there is a big problem in Nigeria. I respect Jonathan alot because if it was to be OBJ Amaechi would have send to where he belong, the EFCC cell.i condemned this act in all way. Chidi and pro Amaechi members need to be show the way out. Ijaw man fighting his own brother. Jonathan should be allow to do his work, Boko Haram is fighting Jonathan, OBJ is fighting Jonathan, Buhari is fighting Jonathan, TINUBE and APC is fighting Jonathan, distraction from every corner for only one man. We put this man Jonathan there we should allow him work, APC and Buhari is not alternative to Nigeria problem, we are the cause our problems, and until we rise up to change our attitude, our society and communities then we will see the change we long for.We can do it if only we can allow change to take it course. Every day I wake up, I thank God that I'm not a Muslim. The things people can do in the name of God is mind boggling. And these are the group the western powers are backing in Syria? When it starts back firing and hitting them in the comforts of their western homes, they should remember how it all started. |

Facts have emerged on why Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo have assumed an anti-Goodluck Jonathan stance, even as the 2015 intrigues continue to gather steam.A source privy to a recent meeting where Obasanjo openly expressed his displeasure to some close allies on how President Jonathan has been relating with him, said it all started when:Obasanjo indicated his intention to resign as the chairman of the Board of Trustees of PDP. The situation was allegedly handled poorly by President Jonathan and this angered Obasanjo.According to the source, the former president had expected the president to engage him in order to seek clarification on why he was leaving the office beyond the excuses he had advanced.Commenting on the Obasanjo/Jonathan grudge, the source said the former president was shocked when about a week after serving the notice of his intention to resign, he received a letter from Jonathan, accepting his resignation without either an attempt to persuade him against it or give personal attention to the plan.Obasanjo was said to have described President Jonathan's action as both insensitive and a display of poor understanding of the nuances of power."Baba had expected that given his place in the party and especially the role he played in the emergence of Mr Goodluck Jonathan as President, he would have prevailed on him not to go but stay back and help moderate things at the highest level in the party," the source said.Another source told Thisday that Jonathan just "acted naively" without knowing the implications. The source, who gave a rundown of Jonathan's alleged many infractions against Obasanjo, confirmed that the former president is not happy with the way the Jonathan groups were going about his re-election bid.According to him, Obasanjo had put a lot at stake by brokering a one-term deal that is now being vehemently denied, adding that even if there was plan to seek re-election, the brazen approach is certainly counter-productive in the light of the prevailing political developments in the country. The source recalled that apart from easing out former governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola of Osun State as national secretary, Bode Mustapha, as auditor-general and former Ekiti State governor, Segun Oni, as vice-chairman of the PDP, South-west zone, the PDP in Ogun State had also been taken away from Obasanjo and handed over to someone regarded as "unrepentantly anti-Obasanjo", Mr. Buruji Kashamu.Worthy of note, the source mentioned, was that Obasanjo didn't take kindly, the way Jonathan took his position on the issue of insecurity, especially when the President was reported as saying he would not handle the issue of terrorism the military way, alluding to Obasanjo's invasion of Odi and Zaki Biam.Another instance, according to the source, was that Obasanjo sometime ago visited one of his farms in Cross River State and observed that the road to the farm was in deplorable state."So, Baba expressed his disappointment to the Cross River State governor on the state of the road but the man replied and said it was the President that had not approved of it being a federal road."Right there, Baba called the president and narrated his encounter with the governor and told the president that he had appealed to the governor to go ahead with the road and that he'll be reimbursed by the president, to which Jonathan was said to have replied in the affirmative."But Baba was later shocked to hear that the president had sent for the governor and dressed him down for what he considered 'reporting him to Baba'. So, these are some of the things that people do not know that are annoying Baba. If not for these infractions, the source said, "Baba was not and never would have been against the president because of the role he played in his emergence. It is depressing for Baba." |
KenGali: Dear Chinedu,I really appreciated your comment and I must tell you that I will like to know you maybe face to face, however dreams are not made in a day, dreams are build over time, Soludo is what Anambrarians need now and I have a long way to go with my dreams but this kind of comments from you is highly commendable and encouraging. Thank you. |
I am not gun shy to say that I have a genuine hunger to serve the good people of Anambra State and to pray that it pleases God to give me that singular opportunity someday. But before I begin, I admitted that I have not in any government before but with the experiences I have acquired in many areas of endeavors will added advantage if it happen I get a nod from you. My names are Chinedu Nwosu Jerry, an indigene of umuzocha in Awka south local government of Anambra State, born in the family of late Mr Onyebuchi Nwosu-okoli who was known in umuzocha/Awka South LGA for his grass root politics.i watched from my base in Lagos and this hunger to correct the wrongs of our builds up in me. I have this hunger that simply refuses to go away because I have a dream, a big dream, given an opportunity Anambra State should be one of the BEST developed States in Nigeria, where: Equality, justice and fairness will reign; Every child of school age will have an unfettered access to quality education; Every youth will have a decent job; Every woman will have an equal opportunity to be the best she can be; where all citizens will have access to quality healthcare. My vision is that Anambra shall depart from the ghosts of her past, reclaim the Glory of the present and secure the promises of her future. We live in very challenging times that task the ingenuity of nations and their leaders. I am extraordinarily passionate that in a highly competitive globalised world, visionary, competent and audacious leadership that inspires a people for greatness can make the difference between the wealth and poverty of nations. Our today’s world needs leaders who will lead with compassion, courage, wisdom and intelligence, leaders who can envision tomorrow today and take proactive steps to save their people from future dangers; and leaders who can inspire their people to strive for the best that lies within them in spite of daunting odds. It is that committed, honest, creative, sacrificial, courageous, and audacious leadership that feeds my vision for Anambra State. Nothing but the BEST is good enough for Anambra State. That is my vision for Anambra State.Anambra is a land of great entrepreneurs. It should be a land of great prosperity. No one in Anambra state should be poor. My vision is that all Anambrarians be lifted from poverty to prosperity. The education of Anambra leaders past shall not be in vain. The labors of Anambra heroes (both past and present) who blazed the trail in education shall not be forgotten: Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Dr. Nwafor Orizu, Dr. PiusOkigbo, Prof. Kenneth Dike, Prof Kodilinye, Dr. Alex Ekwueme,Ajie Ukpabi Asika, Justice Ajegbo, Prof. Chinua Achebe, Prof Chike Obi, Prof. James Ezeilo, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, Dr. Chuba Okadigbo, Senator Mike Ajegbo, Senator Ebenezer Ikeyina, Cyprain Ekensi, Ike Emeagwali, Dr. Eneli, F.C. Ogbalu, Barrister Anah, Chief Osita Okeke, Dr. Iweka, Chief Arthur Mbanefo, Obi Nnaemeka Achebe, Prof Enweonwu, Prof John Umeh, Chief Mbazulike Amaechi, Dr. Dozie Ikedife, Dr. Chukwuemeka Ike, Dr.Chukwuemeka Ezeife, Chief OdumegwuOjukwu, Chief Ikeotuonye, Chief Mokwuogo Okoye, Barrister Chuba Ikpeazu, Barrister Chike Offodile, Barrister Philip Umeadi, Chief Osita Ezenwa, Prof. Oba, Arc. Mbanefo, Chief B.B.O Emeh, Arc. Ifejika, Mrs. Ikeobasi, Dr. Arthur Nwankwo, Arc. Nwaobi, Prof. A.B.C Nwosu, Mrs. Adogu, Prof. Ben Nwabueze, Prof. Egwuatu, Dr. Tim Menakaya, Prof. Laz Ekwueme, Chief S.N. Okeke, Engr. Ebele Okeke, Prof. Dora Akunyili, Princess Stella Adaeze Oduah, Prof. Charles Soludo, Dr. Emmanuel Egboga, and Prof. Anikwe, to mention a few. Knowledge is power and education has been the pride of Anambrarians in the past. Anambra has produced some of the most educated minds in Nigeria. My vision is that we rekindle interest in and restore the pride and standard of education among our children and youth. Excellence in the educational system through a creative reward system that encourages hard work and commitment should be reintroduced. Historically, besides education, agriculture has been the foundation of economic growth and prosperity in most developing economies including Anambra state. Today less that 5 percent of the population in Anambra state derives their livelihoods from farming. The reality is that there can be no progress on reducing hunger and poverty in Anambra state without political and resource commitment to agriculture and rural development. Any State that cannot feed its citizen is in danger. We should be bold to go back to the land in Anambra State. There is no doubt that Commerce and Industry are major components of economic advancement of any State. Traditionally Anambra has one of the best business cultures in Nigeria. Anambrarians are knowledgeable on how to produce wealth and build on it. What is needed is to exploit the industry and entrepreneurial spirit of Anambra people to, among other activities, promote aggressive manufacturing of products not only for domestic use and consumption, but also for export within and outside Nigeria and the West African sub-region. Industrial growth is the way to go for Anambra State. Special attention should be paid to the commercial towns of Onitsha and Nnewi by way of focused development and unpretentious infrastructural provision and rehabilitation. Majority of Anambrarians are in diaspora, either within or outside Nigeria. There is a need to attract Anambriarians back to the State. There is a gaping need to initiate a Megacity development that will stretch from the plains of the River Niger banks of Onitsha to the elegant banks of Anambra River to make Anambrarians, once again, proud to return home, live in Anambra, invest and do business in Anambra. My vision is to emphasize what unites us and seek to eliminate what divides us. A sense of shared civic responsibility among citizens of Anambra state should be rekindled. There is a compelling need to bridge the gap between the leaders and those are lead. This is my vision for Anambra Sate and it is a practicable vision powered by the desire to serve. The time is now, I may not have the chance come 2014 but as a youth the seeds are being sowed now.Youths should rise up from their slumber and take over the politics of this great country Nigeria. God bless Nigeria! God bless the great youths of this nation! By Chinedu Jerry Nwosu, BA (HONS) |

IGBO AND THE PROVERBIAL RAINFALL Permit me at this point to invoke an ancient African idiom which has its roots in Igbo wisdom: onye na amaghi ebe mmiri bidoro mawa ya, agaghi ama ebe o kwusiri (He who does not recognise the point at which the rain began to beat him would not recognise when the rain ceases to fall altogether). For Igbo people in Nigeria, the rainfall ensued in the early 19th century when the British first explored the Lower Niger (I will put aside, for today’s purposes, the preceding hellfire that was black African slavery and the Igbo’s share of hell in it).The rain began to beat us from January 1914 when Lord Fredrick Lugard completed the amalgamation of the northern and southern protectorates into Colonial Nigeria and became its first Governor-General. The Igbo did not have a say as to whether they desired to become a part of such a contraption or not.The clouds lifted ever so briefly and the Igbo enjoyed a brief sunshine in Nigeria in the decade before and a few years after independence. Having embraced Christianity and western education with enthusiasm, they quickly rose to hold sway in the federal civil service, military, academia, commerce and industry – the Jews of West Africa were on the march, toiling, sweating and swinging upwards, to the envy and hatred of their compatriots. The Igbo in Nigeria became quickly drenched in that awesome rain by way of separate episodes of pogrom: the Jos massacre in 1945, the Kano massacre in 1953 and the September 29, 1966 massacre in which tens of thousands of Igbo men, women and children were slaughtered. This last event led directly to the civil war of 1967-1970, which in turn resulted in mass starvation and deliberate anti-Igbo genocide. And the rain has not abated. The bloody rain has continued to beat Igbo people, resulting in organised anti-Igbo massacres in Kano in 1980, Maiduguri in 1982, Yola in 1984, Gombe in 1985, Kaduna in 1986, Bauchi in 1991, Funtua in 1993, Kano in 1994, Damboa in 2000 and the Apo 6 massacre in 2005.The ongoing nihilistic slaughter of Igbo people by an extremist militant group known as Boko Haram is yet to be documented. But there can be no question that a disproportionate percentage of the thousands of victims, dead or maimed or permanently impoverished, is made up of Igbo people. The foregoing non-exhaustive examples occurred exclusively in northern Nigeria. They also represent occasions when Igbo people had been massacred by northern Nigerian Muslims who had been provoked not by any direct misconduct by the Igbo but perhaps because the Prophet Mohammed was insulted in Denmark by some European artist or because Allah’s name had been taken in vain in Los Angeles by an American satirist. There is, therefore, a sense in which by simply being Igbo, Christian and entrepreneurial, the Igboman is adjudged guilty and vengeful punishment is indiscriminately and randomly applied on a recurring basis.THE COUP THAT CONDEMNED US ALLOn 15 January, 1966, a few young Nigerian army officers led by an Igbo officer, Major Chukwuma Kaduna Nzeogwu, carried out Nigeria’s first coup d’état. This resulted in the deaths of Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto, a prominent northern Nigerian of the Fulani ethnic stock and the Prime Minister, Sir Tafawa Balewa, also a northern Nigerian Fulani. Although the coup was foiled primarily by another Igboman, Nigeria’s first Major-General in the Colonial Army, General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi, nevertheless, the belief prevailed in northern Nigeria that Hausa leaders were singled out for elimination by Igbo people who had a grand design for political dominance. This situation gave rise to a retaliatory pogrom in which tens of thousands of Igbo people were murdered in northern Nigeria. This led to the mass flight back to the Eastern Region of as many as two million Igbo people. It is conceded that the execution of the coup in question resulted in unintended consequences. The ethnic composition of the putschists, the ethnic origin of the individuals killed, as well as the eventual assumption of power by Gen. Ironsi, himself an Igboman, created the erroneous impression that the coup was an ethnic-biased putsch organised mostly by Igbo officers in furtherance of Igbo hegemonic agenda. However, I must insist that the coup was purely a military affair and that the civilian Igbo population knew nothing about it and had absolutely nothing to do with it.Gen. Ironsi himself was not part of either the planning or the execution of the coup. Once the coup plotters lost control of events, General Ironsi was invited to take office as the military Head of State by the circumstance of his position as the most high-ranking military officer and the General Officer Commanding the Nigerian Army at that time. There was neither a grand Igbo civilian conspiracy to overthrow a northern-controlled government nor to impose a unitary system of government, the phantom charges for which the Igbo people have paid and continue to pay a terrible price in Nigeria today. It must also be noted that there have been several military coups in Nigeria since January 15, 1966 and yet the ethnic kinsmen of the perpetrators of such coups were not subjected to mass slaughter or wanton destruction of their property and places of worship. But above all, on July 29, 1966, the northern officer corps themselves executed a retaliatory counter-coup in which the Head of State, Gen. Aguiyi Ironsi, was killed and over 300 military officers and men of Igbo origin were massacred. Why didn’t matters simply end there?Eventually, the crisis reached its peak in May 1967 with the secession of the Igbo-dominated Eastern Region from Nigeria. The Republic of Biafra was declared and it was headed by the British public school- and Oxford-educated Colonel Chukwuemeka Odumegu-Ojukwu.The secession quickly led to a civil war after talks between former army colleagues, Yakubu Gowon and Ojukwu and the Aburi peace deal collapsed. The Republic of Biafra lasted only until January 1970 after a campaign of starvation by the Nigerian Army with the support of Egypt, Sudan and the United Kingdom led to a decisive victory for the Nigerian side. |
deeobserver209: I thought I was the only one who sees Rotimi Ameachi the way he is. Thank God there are others who are not fooled by his playing the victim tactics.God bless you my good brother. |
GOV ROTIMI AMAECHI'S DEADLY! A MUST READ!! The 7 Deadly Sins Of Governor Rotimi Amaechi However, Amaechi bears a chunk of the blame. I see the creeping rise of the governor’s churlishness, that pettiness which tarred my first impression of him eight or so years ago. But he has been fortunate. He is self serving and lacks a sense of proportion, yet we all – especially the media – continue to cut him so much slack. Last 3 weeks in Ekiti, he spoke at the Symposium for Young and Emerging Leaders, and all his excesses were on full display again. |
Young Nigerian Virgin Stripped Naked: Shame on Nigerian Masses Having taken my early morning coffee, I sat back reading news coming from Germany vis-à-vis Ibrahim Babangida’s critical health condition. I was praying for his health to be returned to him. IBB is not somebody that I would love to see die in a hospital because he needs to die like his late brother in crime, Gaddafi. I was so sad, very sad indeed and I reflected: Abdulsalami Abubakar stole about 20 billion U.S dollars from Nigeria , Atiku Abubakar stole about $18 billion U.S dollars, Olusegun Obasanjo and her daughter- Iyabo liquidated about $13 billion dollar power project, IBB stole about $20 billion US dollars from Nigeria. Ibori stole over $2.6 billion U.S dollars, Tony Anenih stole about $6 billion U.S. dollars during his time as a federal minister alone, Abba Ruma stole about 1.3 billion U.S dollars , Umaru Dikko stole about $1 billion U.S dollars, Peter Odili stole about $2billion U.S dollars ,Orji Uzor Kalu stole about $1.2 billion U.S dollars, Bola Tinubu stole about $1.1 billion U.S dollars, David Mark stole about $1 billion U.S dollars already, former speaker Bankole stole about $1 billion U.S dollars, Ahmed Makarfi stole about $800 million U.S dollars, Gbenga Daniel stole about 500 million U.S dollars, Christopher Alao Akala stole about $250 million U.S dollars, Ikedi Ohakim stole about 450 million U.S dollars, Muhammadu Buhari stole over 500 million U.S dollars during his time at Petroleum Trust Fund, Chimaroke Nnamani stole over $500 million U.S dollars, Donald Duke stole about 600 million U.S dollars, Lucky Igbinedion stole about 600 million U.S dollars, Ngozi Okonja Iweala stole about 100 million U.S dollars, Nasir el Rufai is accused of liquidating about 30 billion Naira, even Saint Nuhu Ribadu has not explained how he single handedly raised billions of Naira from his salary as police officer just to secure ACN presidential ticket, Sullivan Chime, Peter Obi, Theodore Orji, Gabriel Suswam, Ameachi etc are currently stealing and the list goes on and on ad infinitium. So why am I so sad? A poor little girl (fascinated with western technology) got caught and stripped naked for stealing an outdated black berry by a cross section of Nigerian Masses in Lagos. She was tortured, violated, fingered, molested and raped. The same girl would not have stolen the blackberry if her money stolen by the Nigerian elite was properly accounted to her. Yet, nobody dare do same to Patience Jonathan (wife of current Nigerian President) when she was caught at the airport trying to freight away over $15 million U.S dollars and other hard currencies. Saint Nuhu Ribadu who handled the case as EFCC boss now claims such event never happened. The same Ribadu also claimed that Bola Tinubu is now innocent. My question is why kill a harmless bird when these big thieves walk? After all, the big idiot that recovered the stolen phone should have forgiven the poor little chap knowing that more was stolen from him and her by the Nigerian elite.Rather than hold these thieves accountable by Nigerian masses, the same masses would argue among themselves and sympathize with these big thieves claiming that they are been persecuted due to ethnicity. The masses will sing their praises, dance for them, call them “oga” etc. Yet the same masses will turn against minor thieves. No wonder some shameless Yoruba elders rallied around Bode George and Bola Tinubu during their graft travails at the hands of the EFCC and Code of Conduct Bureau .I am not calling on Nigerian Masses to have a revolution. No, not at all, as such would attract the useless Nigerian Military and security apparatus to brutally kill the masses. During the Arab springs, the military in those countries supported the people. Nigerias’ case is and would be different as the Nigerian “slowpoke and pepper soup ” military would support their “Ogas” against the people. We need to examine our conscience. If we will strip a poor little girl naked for stealing a black berry then the logic goes that we will need to strip our politicians naked for siphoning money meant for our education, road projects and other facilities. I am not an “internet” warrior but enough is enough. God bless the good people who read between the lines. |
