Currently jamming up ‘Jabula‘, a song by the popular South African group – ‘Teargas‘ as I refill my ink and dust my slate to write this post.
Researchers and students have often wondered whether listening to music has negative or positive effects on studying habits and whether studying while listening to music is a “do” or “don’t”.

Studies have shown that listening to music before or while studying or performing a task can be beneficial as it improves attention, memory, and even your ability to do mental math as well as helping lessen depression and anxiety. These studies and researches seem to point to the fact that music can actually help you study and those who listen to music while studying may actually be better off compared to those who don’t.

However, there have also been several studies that have shown that music can actually have negative impacts on your studying effectiveness — particularly when it comes to memorising something in order. You can’t tell me you will be able to memorise the first 100 chemical elements when you have your headphone bursting up “Rick Ross – No Games” into your hearing. Listening to music will diminish your cognitive abilities in these situations because when you’re trying to memorize things in order, you can get thrown off and confused by the various words and lyrics in the song playing in the background.

Although listening to liked or disliked music has exactly the same impact, but why would I start playing “Asa’s songs” is a question for me, you should have your preference as there might be no impact but your mentality will speak if you listen to a song that doesnt flow with your blood. Because music can impact and regulate your mood and the best mood to study in is a more relaxed mood, choosing music that helps you relax and understanding your choice but also with enough beat or rhythm to ensure you don’t zone out while studying is crucial. But music that’s too loud or with too much of an upbeat tempo can also be distracting, so having a playlist or specific artist you turn to for studying can really help.

If you’re the type of person who has more difficulty multitasking and is easily distracted, listening to music while studying may just cause your attention to drift to the music rather than help you concentrate on your material. It’s better to avoid it.

So basically, the final decision about studying while listening to music is up to you — do you feel you concentrate better with Taylor Swift singing or Lil Wayne screaming foul languages in the background? Or do you find yourself thinking of the lyrics to the song rather than what you’re supposed to be studying?

Conclusively, Music’s effects on study habits will vary from person to person, but in order for you to study the most productively, you need to figure out the effect music has on your studying ability, and then tailor your studying playlist — be it silence or music — to best suit your needs and efficiency.

1) The Mother Hen – this category of ladies are very advanced in age and at that behave as if they are mother to everyone. You hear hostel mates addressing them as “Aunty Mary” or “Sister Joy”. Hian! It can vex me ehn…are we not in an academic environment, or did I stop you from starting life early. Addressing you as aunty doesn’t really mean I respect you. They also go about forming adviser Nowamagbe because of their experiences.

2) The Spirit Koko – this category wakes you up in the morning with the sound of speaking in tongues, they pray like the Pharisees and rub religion into every conversation. (Aza bilivoh syndrome). They also campaign for hostel devotion prayers, religious activities and worry you if you don’t attend fellowship meetings.

3) The Bully – this category are deceived by their physical size or strength so think they can trample on anyone. They are aggressive, accost and jump lines. They are non- receptive to new roommates and quarrel as often as they have an audience. They are typical noisemakers.

4) The Cook – this category are utmostly concerned with what they will cook to it, they buy food stuff like it is a family house, cook all day long and crucify others that eat out. Their dresses always smell of kitchen….eeeew!

5) The Borrower – this category can borrow anything from cotton bud, face wipes, detergent, food seasoning, toothpaste to even your bathing sponge They never consider buying theirs for peace sake.

6) The Nerd – they are called oversyllabus or Scholastica. She goes about with books and study materials, discussing what she has covered even far beyond the lecturer, intimidating people who have not been studying. Their social life is inversely tending towards infinity.

7) The Wannabe Big Girl – this one’s claim to be what they are really not, live fake lives and snubs at people. She lies about having good escapades. It’s all a sham.

8.) The Big Girl – by their decking and carriage you know them. Expensive designer clothing, TFC meals, Goat human hair, vacation trip. She is also polite and mingle when necessary.

9) The Absentee – this category of ladies are never around, they just breeze in and breeze out. They usually have a 1,001 other places to pass the night. Their space is unkempt because they never have time to arrange it. Some of them don’t even know the name of co-roommates. The days they are around they sleep for like 2days straight.

10) The Regular Girl – she is cool, calm and collected. Walks into the room, greet everyone and retires to her corner. Participates in gist when needful or invited. She lives a moderate life; you cannot easily classify her personality, but you admire her from a distance.

I agree with you, my brova...but I have observed that there isn't too many churches that preach salvation of the soul and the iminence of the kingdom of God, rather it's now more about financial stability and living the fanciful life, and to archieve this, huge tites are always collected.
Now we all know how hard Nigeria is, esp for the youths. The way they brainwash people these days, esp women, I begin to wonder if native doctors are now posing as pastors.

but don't you think many churches resorted into such preaching of financial stability and all because they believe that's what the people need and it's the best way to keep them glued to the church??

The fact that they don't go to Church doesn't actually mean they don't believe in God. But they are forced to go to church at times due to last resort, after they must have been countered by some more-than-physical forces.

Fear driven presentations and demonstrations often force youths to go to church while under the shields of some dominating forces, mostly parental. But not every young person will set going to church as a priority once he or she starts riding solo and under no real supervision.

We’ve heard some pretty strange statistics about church goers, most of which are female adults and least of which are the young and vibrant youths who are expected to keep close to God when they are still young and active.

All said, let’s see some 7 Reasons Why Nigerian Youths Do Not Go To Church.

1. They Believe Church Is Boring – Since it's nothing like a party where ‘Lil Kesh’ would keep screaming a sinful phrase into their hearings, they don’t like it. They don’t fancy those left and right shifting dance steps vis-à-vis clapping in two’s at intervals. But let it be known that churches were never meant for entertainments. Maybe now that churches are singing ‘Godwin’, they might consider that.

2. They Believe The Church Is A Waste Of Time – The thing is, every one knows the message, “Jesus brings salvation”, “Jesus Is coming soon” etc. So why bother going to church to hear some repetitions of old sayings? This is also one of the reason why youths stay back from church, to them, they know the message the church is relaying.

3. They Don't Have Clothes – The church was never meant to be fashion runway. They just do not understand this. They are always hell-bent on looking fly to church, to impress who? Maybe that Lady smiling at the microphone as she leads the choir sing. So, as long as there is no new designer dress, no church.

4. They Believe The Church Wants Their Money – A couple of Naira that will go a long way in sorting Bread and Beans at that local restaurant is too big for them to drop for God. They believe they will save some cash by staying back home instead of going to church. Even though there are truly some churches that talk more about offering and tithe than the kingdom of God, it is well.

5. They Believe Life Is Better Without Religion – This is an assertion but with that perspective, they tend to neglect church since its the “pillar” of religion. Going by the norms and commandments of the church by being a Christian are hectic for others. Some of them don’t care much about religion but a better relationship with God.

6. They Believe They Don't Have Time – They believe some hours they will spend in church is better spent on cramming some aspects of that 201 course. Or probably spent tweeting and gathering twitter followers, or better still, to wash clothes, which is what they mostly do.

7. They Believe Worldly Engagements Are Sweeter – As long as there is power supply in the hood, larger percentage of the youths will shun church, you will hear sayings like “Devil already won today’s battle, but the war isn’t over yet”. Especially if the Super Eagles have a Match on that day, the church will be unconsciously scanty.
