EducationEducation Gradually Loosing It’s Values In The Southwest by Eduwheel(op): 6:39pm On May 08, 2022
Acquiring Education is one of those qualities usually identify with Nigerians in the southwest region of the country. Going by the way things are gradually turning out, one can only imagine and continue to ask the question of where the states in the region have gotten it wrong?

Some of the issues identified ranges from economy downturn to commitment on the path of the government to place premium on committing more resources into the sector.
Though institutions in the region still claim to rank top among institutions in other regions of the country, but that is not to say they are doing well.

The region is currently witnessing a trend that have continue to soil the reputation earned through absolute dedication to education decades ago.

There are situations where the level of street trading among young one are steadily on the rise, cultism is fast becoming a way of life among youths. Our youths have since lost faith in the system for a better future as a result many are engaged in Internet fraud and the trend have since degenerated to a level where crime related to rituals for money is on the rise.

Since the return to democratic rule the region have witness sharp decline in commitment, zeal and desire for Education.

It is becoming to seem as if our politicians are the once profiting from the problems. Thuggery has become an enviable profession among the youths, and it is so because politicians will rather give guns to the youths as replacement for books.

Our reward system is so bad that even graduating top of your class does not guarantee a better life.

We now have a situation where courses like Medicine, nursing, pharmacy now become the choice of many and this is not truly for the love for those courses but just for the fact that these courses are the only once with some level of guarantee for leaving above poverty line after graduation.

I once had a conversation with a profession of medicine from one of our foremost universities years ago and he expressed shock at the rate of applications the institution yearly receive from applicant whose only choice of course is in the faculty of medicine. Science classes that are the most scanty has now become the choice of the once who still believe education could still afford them a better life.

What happened to our reward system, almost all the state do not have a functional scholarship board. State are gradually handing off funding for state institutions. Hence, the growing tuition fees in our state own institutions.

At this time when we are faced with lot of vices birth by dwindling economy and scarce resources I think the only sector that our priorities should be focused on is the education sector, because we cannot afford to be loosing on both sides at the same time.

The situation is so bad that we still have primary and secondary schools in the southwest where pupils and students don’t have furniture in their class rooms, we still have class rooms that are practically not suitable for learning in our schools. Public primary schools is fast becoming a ghost of itself as parents who still value education sees those schools as places where their wards can never get value for time spent.

Government, parents and all stake holders must begin to pay more attention to these problems as we cannot afford a situation created by our nonchalant attitude towards our dying values which was long preserved by our founding fathers through their dedication towards making sure every child get unhindered access to quality education.

The election in Osun state will be very interesting
We can only hope the process will be violence free
PoliticsHow Education In Helping Gov. Oyetola In His Reecletion Bid by Eduwheel(op): 9:31pm On May 04, 2022
Education is fast becoming the major catalist that may give the incumbent governor of Osun State victory in the state governorship election which will take place in a matter of weeks.

The education sector of the state witnessed lots of controversies during the tenure of the last administration led by the current Minister of Interior, Agbeni Rauf Aregbesola.

The then governor of the state came up with so many anti people reforms which was as expected greeted with all sorts of dramas. Some of such reforms include the unify school uniform system, meddling into structure and organisation of missionary schools and the reclassification of schools in the state.

To be a good leader, being a good listener must be one major attribute one must possess and that has not only negatively affected the popularity of the former governor of the state even among his country men where one would have expected that he commands and dictate the polity.

I must score the past administration high when it comes to investment on education with the construction of modern schools across all political zones in the state, the introduction of the tablet of knowledge (Opon Imo) which received recognition from UNESCO to mention a few.

But one can only imagine what can be the wrong doing of a man who committed huge state resources to developing the education sector?

It is no longer news that the rising popularity the incumbent governor currently enjoys was because of his actions on assumption of office. The governor upturned most of the reforms introduce by his predecessor in the education sector.

Governor Oyetola investment in the education sector cannot be compared to the achievements of his predecessor in the but Oyetola is reaping from the anti people policy of the last administration.

No matter what your intentions may be as a leader, not looking through the people’s view point on issues bordering on the structure of education may erode every giant strides made by such leader.

The present government have since reversed most of the reforms introduced by the last administration and this have not just endear the governor to the people but also improve his chances of being reelected.

For the Ijesa people who have had a long yearning for an upgrade of the college of education in Ilesa to University. The hope of getting their long time desire got rekindled when one of their son became the Governor of the state, but for eight year that hope got battered, but the administration of Governor Oyetola who understands that power is from God but it is exclusively domicile with the people brought joy to sons and daughters of IJESA land by acceding to their demand to upgrade the college of education in their domain to University and it has since paid off with the growing popularity of the governor among the Ijesas.

The reversal of same school uniform introduced by his predecessor and changing the school reclassification system, and also changing the school names to their original names to mention a few are some of those things that may work for the Governor’s reelection.

EducationInsecurity: Reason To End All Academic Strike by Eduwheel(op): 10:26pm On Apr 29, 2022
Nigeria is currently faced with high insecurity level and this has become the new normal. Ending the scourge caused by those who are bent on bringing the country to her kneels has now become a responsibility we must all shoulder in our respective abode.

But the big question is how do you solve or find solutions to insecurity if the younger generation who are embodiment of strength, knowledge and capacity are left out of school for over two months?

Like I have always say at different fora, you cannot claim to be solving insecurity just by increasing budgetary allocation just for the purpose of buying weapons and then leaving the category of people that forms over 60% of the country’s population unattended too.

Not even at this time when we have the general election knocking at our doors, we all know what happens during these periods. The idle hand will definitely get engaged by the devil for all it needed is more time of idleness.

It is becoming more like a way of life not to get things right in this part of the word. Government claim to spend so much on infrastructure while the people who are suppose to be the major beneficiaries of these infrastructures are left to build their lives in an environment which does not give room for the right social and mental development, yet the places where most of these youths find some sort of hope and the believe that one day they might just get some sort of assurance of a better life has been shut for months.

UTME exams is just a week or two around the corner, candidates who have been offered provisional admission through the last year UTME exam into year one are still not Sure of getting their academic dreams up and running.

Academic strike is fast becoming a tradition among successive governments and none has since exhibit that needed desire to nip the scourge in it’s bud.

Building infrastructure is good but you cannot continue to waste resources on infrastructure when the people who are suppose to be the major beneficiaries of those infrastructures are mostly not of sound mind.

Roads, Bridges, Rails, Airport can never form those key elements that builds a sound individual but Education and only proper and prompt investment in education can. There’s no infrastructure mentioned above that won’t take a government over a year to put together but in a society like ours where education is least priotised, these beautiful infrastructures could take the youths we have failed to invest in less than 24 hours to destroy. Evidence of such was felt across the country during the last youth protest and of recent the just renovated MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja.

More investment in education and the youth is the only solution to ending insecurity in Nigeria not more weapons and placing priorities on building roads or rail.

The country must take absolute advantage of her youthful population. Nigerians are known to achieve greatness outside the shores of this country, such great strides can also be achieve here if we channel our investment properly and priotise these generation who are full of strength and abilities.

EducationWe Need More Education And Not More Ammunition by Eduwheel(op): 11:08am On Sep 14, 2021
Education they say is the bedrock of any developed or developing society, for a nation to be accorded the status of developing it is suppose to be seen in the amount of investment such nation put in educating its people.
The world most especially Africa is becoming a good ground for both legal and illegal arms and ammunition and this have not proven in any ways to solve our growing problems.
Government continue to equip its military in the name of securing life and property while ignoring the best form of security which cannot be guaranteed by weapons or high grade ammunition but by making sure that resources are channel into developing the soul and mind of the people which will in turn birth citizen with right consciousness for the greater good of the Country at large.
I am not in any way opposing spending on defense, but everything we do should add value; value to life, value for existence, and value for prosperity. How long can we continue to defend the life of people who don’t have or have been deprived the true essence or value for life?
We continue to equip our military to fight internal aggression, which alone is a testament that something is wrong somewhere or we are just fixated on deploying wrong approach to solving problems. How can an organization whose primary responsibly is to protect the country from external aggression be the one saddled with responsibility of maintaining internal security?
Our problems are within and must be solved by looking critically at those things that can further improve national cohesion rather than employing kinetic approach in resolving national security issues at all times.
There’s no point suggesting ways to solve the insecurity issue plague most Africa nations, but we can only advice our leaders to priortise human development and this can be achieve by providing an all inclusive, quality and qualitative education. This can be achieved by putting in place a national policy backed by law and provided with adequate funding.
Government cannot continue to correct a derailed mind by just deploying one method; rather, we can have an egalitarian society when Education becomes not just a right but a way of life.

Education10 Reasons Why You Should Begin Preparation For 2022 JAMB-UTME Now by Eduwheel(op): 1:29pm On Sep 13, 2021
The major reasons why most candidate do not do well in the Jamb-UTME Examination is basically because of the way and manner policies are changed over time. Every exams has its own uniqueness and that also is applicable to the UTME Exams.

I will be brief on this, and i hope you find some of my advice useful.

10 Reasons why should begin Preparation for 2021/2022 Jamb-UTME Now

1. Forms will be out Soon: I mean candidate should expect the sales of UTME admission forms anytime soon, and probable the form will be sold at the sale rate as the last one. So don’t delay, start sourcing for Four Thousand Seven Hundred Naira now including registration fee.

2. Sales of Form Might not Last Long: You cant be sure of what framework would be used to sell the forms this year. One thing you can be sure of is that the application process is not free and might not be out there for long. The earlier the better. and also note that centres in states like Lagos, Ibadan, Delta, Imo, Ogun that get filled up on time. So if you don’t want to travel miles for your exam, early registration is better.

3. Registration Process: if what happen last year repeats itself, i bet you don’t want to experience such rush, avoid the rush by registering on time. Please note that National Identity Number is compulsory for UTME registration, so don’t delay this process. Go get your NIN now. Click here for more on NIN Application.

4. Jamb-UTME syllabus: Back then when we use to buy the forms from the bank, we were privelege to get a hard copy of the exam syllabus, but its surprising these days that most student are not even aware of anything called UTME syllabus. Please try and get one for yourself or call me if you need one.

5. Jamb-UTME Brochure: Just like the case of the syllabus, Jamb-UTME brochure is one important materials you should seek after even before the commencement of form sales. This materials will ensure you know the requirements to study your course of choice and which institution offers such courses. The Jamb-UTME brochure will ensure you don’t make mistakes while selecting institutions, course of study and some information about the school. With the brochure you will eliminate any unforeseen errors that may likely arise in the course of registration because most of the centres doing these registrations are sometime too busy to do the checks for you. Know and be sure your proffered institution offers your proffered course of study and if your O’Level result can make you study such course. Still, you can see a competent educationist for guide.

6. Past Questions: This is just very important as the exams itself. Most student make mistake believing one can only read past question just to see maybe you can get a repeated question but that is not totally true. The major essence of past question is to get familiar with the way the exam test its candidates, how the questions comes and if you treat the syllabus it will guide you to know those areas the exams constantly focus on. Don’t just get a Jamb Pack, and dont get one that will just give you an a or b answer but one that come with details of every solutions and also comes with a Computer Based Test disk. I will advice you try solid solutions Jamb-UTME past question. You can get it here.

7. You might be writing on the first day: you can not rule out the fact that your exam might be on the first day. I know for some first timers, you might not like this, but its the truth. So be prepared for any unforeseen changes during the period of the exam. If you are new, it will help you if you can get someone with experience to give you a brief about the exam. I will advice you consult a competent Educationist and not just someone who might not be able to offer you useful tips, recommend useful materials and guide you through the process.

8. The Exam is Computer Based: I hope you know that the exam is a computerised one. Which means on the day of the exam, you will be allocated a computer system and all questions will be answers on it. The computer is accurate and time conscious which means no one will tell you to stop writing, the computer will do that itself. This brings about the need to acquire some level of computer education, and do several CBT testing before the exams. You can contact me for assistance on this if you live in Ibadan.

9. Eliminate Fear: Am sure if you can adhere to this 10 issues raised, you will have less thing to worry about.

10. Shun Exam Malpractices: Penalty for Malpractices is severe. The exam is computer based which make it almost impossible for you to cheat, don’t be compromised and stay away from any gathering nursing or discussing such ideas.

Education5 Reasons Most Student Still Struggle Gaining Admission by Eduwheel(op): 11:22am On Sep 06, 2021
1. Setting Unrealistic Goals: I have over the years discovered that students not being able to set achievable goals have become a major hindrance in their pursuit for admission. Just as I was mentoring some students on how to set realistic goals in an admission year, I discovered that some don’t even have definite goals, while some duplicates other people’s goals which they have little or no knowledge about.
It is pertinent to understand that you are the only one who truly knows your academic strength. If you can score more than 200 in Jamb-UTME examination, seriously you will know because you prepared yourself and no one can prepare for you. If you attend all the best tutorial of this world and you seem not prepared it will amount to an exercise in futility.
Set realistic goals, understand the process and don’t just do things because you feel its what others are doing. Your road to academic success might not be directly through the University, and u can still excel academically. You’ve written UTME more than two times with the desire to study medicine but you found it difficult to hit 200 score but you still insist on studying medicine in Unilag, yet you are not ready to change your attitude towards study. Define your goals and strategise on how you plan to achieve them. I believe if they are your goals, then they are achievable. But you have to be realistic with yourself.
2. Peer Group: This is one major problem that has marred the drive of so many students in getting admitted into higher institution. Peer group have been responsible for so many wrong choices by most students right from their secondary school days. A student whose understanding of Mathematics is nothing to write home about will suddenly want to be in science class just because that what most of his friends are doing, and this problem have come a long way to the effect that most students makes wrong choices in their mode of study, choosing institution and course of study and so on. What most students do is work on other people strategies and helping them achieve success while they suffer academically. To achieve success, always set your own goals and fashion out ways by which you can achieve them. You can do this by understanding yourself, meting people with the ability to counsel you about your goals and stay focus.
3. Family believe: Family have helped students succeed in their academic pursuit while some have made admission difficult for others. Take for instance, a family that believes if a child must go to school it must be University, some believes even in the university there are selected courses their children must study. I knew of a student who had ambition to study law but there’s a family believes where he came from that the lazy once are in Art class. I knew some who are still at home after three years of concluding secondary education but are still at home just because their parents won’t allow polytechnic education not to talk about colleges of education forgetting that the Nigeria of today, the earlier the better. Imagine government agencies setting age range for recruitment. So I will like to advice parents and intending once to work in partnership with their children so they could all have understanding of the strength, ability and areas to improve upon during admission period.
4. Not being able to get right source of information: getting that right information can go a long way to assist you in the process of admission seeking. Some students practically end their chances for admission themselves because their source of information wasn’t healthy enough for the process. To avoid common errors such as wrong subject combinations, choosing institution, choosing courses, understanding the admission process of your institution of choice and the financial implications. Why would be rely on your sister or brother or parent to determine the subject combination for the course you intend to study? Even if your source in loaded, I mean you believe he or she knows what he’s doing, do you border to ask the source of the information he or she is giving you? Like I tell most of my students whenever they come to me with the issue of UTME subject combinations, I simply refer them to the only manual that has been empower by JAMB to do that; The Jamb Brochure. Have you ever ask yourself why JAMB will ensure every candidate gets a copy of this material? They are not just items but items with vital information so candidates have an error free process.
Don’t rely on your siblings for information, am not saying they can’t be right but they are students and not employee of the institution you are applying too. Be careful and cultivate the attitude of moving, moving in the sense that, nothing stops you for visiting the admission office of the institution you are applying to for clarification of issues that need answers.
5. Government Policy: even when students have fully understood all that have been mentioned above, a wrong policy from the government can undermine the whole process. There are instances where bad government policies have worked against admission seekers. Even policies that are considered to be excellent but executed wrongly have also contributed to the woos of many admission seekers. An example of such is the compulsory NIN registration for students in the last UTME examination. The process made thousands of students miss out in the 2021/2022 admission years as they could not obtain the NIN number before the registration deadline and this is evidence in the drop in application received by JAMB. Aside the fact that a lot of candidate missed out because of the bad implementation of a great process, those who eventually registered spent more time at registration centers than on their studies. The process created panic for many and this is also a major reason the examination board conducted an exam which recorded mass failure.
I will still advice all admission seekers to keep most of these things in mind, you might have made mistake sometimes ago but you can still achieve your dreams and be successful academically. All you need is believe in yourself, understand your goals, do not just make friends but make friends that will contribute to your success.
If all you must do to achieve admission success this year or next is by believing in yourself then always remember that the earlier you can get it the better your chances tomorrow. NIN for registering UTME has come to stay, so if you have the intention of writing the next UTME, please get you NIN today.
