Celebrities › Ogun State Government Frowns At Portable’s Rascality by Edygrin(op): 9:46am On Feb 08, 2025 |
The Ogun State Government has condemned the “rascality” of hip-hop artiste Habeeb Okikiola, known as Portable, for his behaviour towards officials of the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority, OGPDPA, at his bar in Iyana Ilogbo, Ota.Portable, who is currently at large, allegedly unlawfully restricted, obstructed, and assaulted town planners Ramon Lateef, Akinpelumi Oyero, and Abidemi Onabanjo while they were performing their duties.
Nine of his associates―Oluwaseun Ayenuwa, 19; Precious Ohiegebo, 19; Oluwapelumi Adeosun, 20; Gospel Kanu, 20; Nurudeen Warris, 21; Adetola Alashe, 25; Fatimo Muhammed, 26; Ifeoluwa Babatunde, 27; and Samuel Adeleke, 28―were arraigned before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court on Thursday for allegedly assaulting the officials. They face charges including armed violence, felony, obstruction, assault, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, and intent to kill. Bail was set at N5 million each.
Governor Dapo Abiodun, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, described Portable as a “serial dissident and unrepentant rascal” who habitually assaults government officials without provocation.
Akinmade said the “indecent act” would be addressed according to the law. He added that Portable’s actions are becoming “shameful and intolerable” to locals and the government, given the “chaos and fear” he incites.
He emphasised the Abiodun administration’s commitment to ridding the state of illegal activities and establishing morality.
“We are profoundly taken aback by the unpleasant and uncivil act of the hip-hop artiste, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, on Wednesday, in the Iyana-Ilogbo area of the State where his bar is located,” the statement said.
“The way in which Portable and some miscreants he employed in the dastardly act attacked the officials of the OGPDPA is not only bizarre but a confirmation of the erosion of Omoluabi ethos in those individuals and indeed a great disgrace to the state.
“Governor Dapo Abiodun totally condemned this primitive and indecent act and reiterated his avowed commitment to a just and egalitarian society as he is ready to make any individual flouting the extant law of the land face the full wrath of the law irrespective of social status and influence,” the statement concluded. https://dailypost.ng/2025/02/07/ogun-govt-frowns-at-portables-rascality/

Politics › Senate Launches Probe Into Niger Military Leader’s Allegations Against Nigeria by Edygrin(op): 11:45am On Feb 07, 2025 |
The Senate has ordered an investigation into allegations made by Niger Republic’s military leader, General Abdourahmane Tchiani, accusing the Nigerian government of colluding with France to destabilise the country’s internal security. This order followed a motion brought to it by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, Shehu Buba (Bauchi-South).
While presenting the motion, Buba emphasised that a major concern was Tchiani’s wrongful implication of Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and the former Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Rufai, in the alleged conspiracy.
Tchiani alleged that the Nigerian government was facilitating the terrorist group Lakurawa, which operates in the North-West to establish bases in Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kebbi states.
He also claimed that foreign military bases in Nigeria were being used to target Niger’s oil pipelines and create security threats in the country.
The motion read in part “The Senate notes with deep concern the serious and unfounded allegations made by the Head of State of Niger Republic, Brig. Gen. Abdourahmane Tchiani, accusing Nigeria of colluding with France to destabilise Niger through a new militia group called Lakurawa, allegedly operating in Nigeria’s Northwest region.
“Also notes that Brig. Gen. Tchiani also alleged plans to establish a base for Lakurawa in a forest near Gaba, Sokoto State, with operational reach extending to Sokoto, Zamfara, and Kebbi States. Additionally, he claimed that foreign military bases in Nigeria are being used to target Niger’s oil pipelines and create security threats.
“Recalls that diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Niger were strained following the coup d’état of 26th July 2023, which disrupted constitutional order in Niger. As the head of ECOWAS, Nigeria insisted on the restoration of constitutional democracy. This situation had been gradually normalizing before these latest unfounded accusations by the Head of State of Niger on 26 December 2024.”
In response, the Senate during plenary, presided over by the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, passed a resolution mandating its Joint Committee on National Security and Intelligence/Foreign Affairs to investigate the claims and submit a report within four weeks.
As part of the probe, committee members are expected to visit the named states to verify whether Lakurawa has any operational bases there. https://www.channelstv.com/2025/02/06/senate-launches-probe-into-niger-military-leaders-allegations-against-nigeria/

Politics › ₦54.2 Trillion Budget: Peter Obi Questions FG On Transparency by Edygrin(op): 10:32am On Feb 07, 2025 |
Erstwhile presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Mr Peter Obi, has said that there is no corresponding breakdown of expenditures to justify the increase in the 2025 national budget.
The statement comes after President Bola Tinubu, on Thursday, increased the appropriation bill for the 2025 fiscal year from N49.7 trillion to N54.2 trillion.
DAILY POST reported that Tinubu announced the increment in separate letters, which he forwarded to both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
Reacting to the development, Obi said that Nigerians need to know how the resources generated are being allocated for the sake of transparency and accountability.
This, he said, was to ensure that they were judiciously spent on the country’s development and the well-being of the people.
In a statement issued on Friday via his X handle, the former Anambra state Governor said Nigerians were still waiting for a detailed account of the execution and expenditures of the Renewed Hope budget passed in December 2023.
Obi further called on the National Assembly to seize this opportunity to obtain and make public the full details of the 2024 budget.
He said: “Yesterday, I read about the increase in the Budget of Restoration to N54 trillion due to increased revenue.
“While the sources of this revenue were detailed, there is no corresponding breakdown of expenditures to justify the increase. For transparency and accountability sake Nigerians need to know how the resources generated from them are being allocated to ensure that they are judiciously spent on the country’s development and the well-being of the people.
“Such expenditures should be directed toward critical areas of development; education, healthcare, security, and poverty alleviation.
“Furthermore, Nigerians are still waiting for a detailed account of the execution and expenditures of the Renewed Hope budget passed in December 2023 to ensure that it has been properly utilized for the country’s future development and the well-being of its citizens.
“I call on the National Assembly to seize this opportunity to obtain and make public the full details of the 2024 budget of Renewed Hope budget.
“Transparency in this regard is crucial for ensuring accountability, learning from past budgets, and making informed decisions for the nation’s progress.
“As we work towards passing the Budget of Restoration for 2025, let us uphold openness, accountability, and the welfare of the Nigerian people. We owe it to ourselves, our children, and the future of our great nation. - PO” https://dailypost.ng/2025/02/07/n54-2-trillion-budget-peter-obi-questions-tinubu-govt-on-transparency-accountability/

The Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala has stated that Nasir el-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna, lacks the influence to “unsettle” President Bola Tinubu.Bwala made the remarks during an interview with TVC News on Thursday, stating that former Kaduna State governor does not have the capacity to win even a senate seat.
He emphasized that President Tinubu is not troubled by el-Rufai’s ongoing criticisms of his administration.
Bwala also noted that el-Rufai only gains political prominence when aligning with a strong, revolutionary leader, adding that; “Let me tell you something about my elder brother, el-Rufai, and whether we should be concerned.
“There’s a dynamic around him. El-Rufai needs a solid revolutionary figure to thrive. On his own, El-Rufa’i might not even secure a Senate seat.” https://dailypost.ng/2025/02/06/el-rufai-lacks-capacity-to-win-senate-seat-bwala/

Politics › Temper Justice With Mercy And Release Nnamdi Kanu, Deputy Speaker Begs Tinubu by Edygrin(op): 3:29pm On Feb 06, 2025 |
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has called on President Bola Tinubu to release the embattled leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, from detention. The IPOB leader has been in detention since he was repatriated to Nigeria from Kenya in June 2021 under controversial circumstances. He is being prosecuted for alleged terrorism by the Nigerian government at a Federal High Court in Abuja.
Kalu made the appeal on Wednesday while briefing journalists after the inaugural meeting of the House of Representatives committee on South-East Development Commission (SEDC) at the National Assembly complex in Abuja.
“We are appealing to him to temper justice with mercy and release Nnamdi Kanu to southeast people. It will ensure more security for our people and spring up development that this SEDC is going to bring,” he stated.
“We noticed that the insecurity there will be reduced if Nnamdi Kanu is released. We want Nnamdi Kanu to be released because we know it will give our people more security.”
He noted that President Tinubu has proven his love for the South-Easterners through his speedy assent to the South East Development Commission Bill which failed in previous assemblies.
Kalu also suggested the adoption of political approach in resolving the crisis in the region rather than the current legal option, adding that the people of the region will be eternally grateful to the President if that becomes a reality.
“Those who are using him as excuses to perpetrate all these criminal actions around our area will have no other reason to be on the street. Then the police and security agencies will catch anyone who claims Nnamdi Kanu is the reason for causing harm to the people of South-East.
“So, we are begging, you can’t coarse the President, he’s the Commander in Chief. All we are saying is use political approach not the legal approach,” he stated. https://www.channelstv.com/2025/02/06/nnamdi-kanu-temper-justice-with-mercy-deputy-speaker-begs-tinubu/

Politics › Banditry: End Insecurity By 2025 Ending – Tinubu Gives Military Marching Orders by Edygrin(op): 10:41am On Feb 04, 2025 |
President Bola Tinubu has issued marching orders to the military to end banditry and general insecurity by the end of 2025.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Defence, Abubakar Badaru, in a viral video.
Following Tinubu’s order, Badaru said the military will continue its onslaught against bandits and all forms of criminalities.
The Minister said bandits are currently on the run and that the military won’t stop until they are all flushed out.
According to Badaru: “The bandits are now on the run, but the military will not rest until we end this thing. The president has given us marching orders to end insecurity in every part of our country by the end of this year.
“The Chief of Defence Staff, NSA are working day and night to actualize that target, as you have seen we are putting pressure on all the theatre operations.
“And indeed, mining activities have been lifted in Zamfara already and this is part of the reason we are meeting today to look at all areas where we have serious security issues and how best we can secure those areas.” https://dailypost.ng/2025/02/04/banditry-end-insecurity-by-2025-ending-tinubu-gives-military-marching-orders/

Politics › We Don’t Have Power To Determine Tenure Of IGP – Police Service Commission by Edygrin(op): 8:05pm On Feb 03, 2025*. Modified: 8:28pm On Feb 03, 2025 |
The Police Service Commission, PSC, has said it has no constitutional powers to determine the appointment or removal of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP.
DAILY POST recalls that the Police Service Commission had last week directed all serving police officers who have served for 35 years, or attained the age of 60 years, to proceed on immediate retirement in line with existing laws.
Since the directive several public commentators have argued that the directives should also affect the tenure of the IGP.
But Ikechukwu Ani, Head, Press and Public Relations of the PSC, in a statement on Monday, said, “By virtue of Paragraph 30, part 1 of the third schedule to the Constitution, and clause 6 (1) of the Police Service Commission (Establisment) Act, 2001, the Commission is charged with the responsibilities of appointment, promotion, dismissal and exercising disciplinary control over persons holding offices in the Nigeria Police Force (except the Inspector General of Police).
“The law is clear on the mandate of the Commission and it does not extend to the Inspector General of Police who is an appointee of Mr. President with the advice of the Police Council.
“The Commission at its 1st Extraordinary Meeting of the 6th Management Board on Friday 31st January 2025, only considered and took decision on the regularisation of date of First appointment of CADET ASPs/Inspector Force Entrants. This has nothing to do with the Inspector General of Police or his office.
“The Commission wishes to state that it is comfortable with the size of the powers which the Constitution has bestowed on it and is not interested in shopping for more powers that obviously are not backed by law.
The Commission also noted that it has maintained a close and complementary working relationship with the Inspector General of Police in the overall interest of the Nigeria Police Force. https://dailypost.ng/2025/02/03/we-dont-have-power-to-determine-tenure-of-igp-police-service-commission/

Politics › 2027: Atiku Will Bury PDP, Persuade Jonathan, Saraki - Primate Ayodele To PDP by Edygrin(op): 11:14am On Feb 03, 2025 |
Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele on Monday advised the People Democratic Party, PDP, to persuade former President Goodluck Jonathan and ex-Senate President, Bukola Saraki to contest for the presidency if the party wants victory in 2027.
Primate Ayodele made it known that former PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar isn’t the party’s answer, adding that if he is allowed to contest again, PDP will be ‘buried’ finally.
In a statement he signed, he said the best Atiku can do is support a good candidate and the best person for PDP at the moment is Jonathan if at all the party wants to smell victory in 2027.
He advised that if Jonathan can join forces with Bukola Saraki, with the support of a coalition of opposition parties, there will be great chances for the party.
According to Primate Ayodele: “If PDP wants to near victory, they should persuade Goodluck Jonathan to contest under the party to wake them from their slumber.
“Atiku will not be an answer to PDP and if he comes out to contest again, it will be the final burial of PDP. He doesn’t have what it takes to remove Tinubu from office.
“I can only advise Atiku to support a good candidate and the best option for PDP now is Goodluck Jonathan. I said he shouldn’t contest before but as it stands, he is the only one who can assist PDP from its final burial.
“If he can join forces with Saraki, together with a coalition of opposition parties, PDP has chances at victory.”
Primate Ayodele made it known that Jonathan is scared.
He urged the party to give him the support he needed in order to agree to contest.
“If Jonathan is ready, he should be able to do all of these but he is scared.
“The fear of the unknown is troubling Jonathan. If the PDP can persuade him and give him all the backing he needs, he will be able to help the party survive,” he said.
Furthermore, Primate Ayodele explained that if Jonathan doesn’t contest, and without a coalition of opposition parties, President Tinubu will still retain his seat as Nigeria’s president.
Continuing, he described the person who can remove Tinubu as one who is desperate, financially stable, unrighteous, fearless, and rugged
He asserted that the 2027 election will not be for lazy people but for those who know what they want and are ready to pursue it till the very end.
“If this cannot happen, I don’t see anyhow any party wants to defeat Tinubu, it will be totally impossible. The person that will win Tinubu must be financially stable, spiritually inclined, must be desperate, must not be righteous.
“The election will be for somebody who is ready for anything, fearless, rugged, entirely serious, someone who has past good records, ready to waste money too because all of these are what Tinubu has.
“The 2027 election isn’t for righteous people, the person who wants to win must be ready to face anything and must be ready to listen to God’s divine instructions at all times.
“It’s not for lazy people but very determined people. You must also be ready to accept lies and truth together. Tinubu is too strong to be pushed aside,” he said https://dailypost.ng/2025/02/03/2027-persuade-jonathan-saraki-primate-ayodele-to-pdp/
