They need to run forward into the opposition half once any of the SF players have possession in the opposition half.

Against Brazil it was mostly Ajibade and ihezuo that were moving into the opposition half..

Ajibade was isolated most of the time she went forward with the ball.
Our midfielders in that game don't have long range passing in their skill set. They find it difficult evading a press in midfield because they are not press resistant and end up giving away possession. They can only break play and give short tidy passes. An Ajibade infront of them will do that.

against Spain they need to run with the ball the way Ajibade was running with it...

Spain won't give them chance to pass the ball...

Brazil intercepted most of the through passes SF tried so Spain will do better than Brazil and keep possession..
Ucheibe is a good DLP who can easily carry the ball out from the back, but she lacks it when it comes to long range passing.

Ajibade should play the advanced midfield role alongside Onyinye Echegini.

If Ajibade is played in this position, she will always be available for a pass.

I’m curious to know what game plans Mr. Waldrum will come up with
Spain are a very difficult team
They have tricky forwards.
If it’s me I’d tell them to try to go physical without getting cards
Kick every ball to throwing for 90 mins grin
Just distort flow of play
Let’s play a rough messy game grin
No time
We can get a result from this match, if we stack the midfield with players.

A 3-4-2-1 is the answer.

to beat Spain Super Falcons defenders need to understand the defense line and stay compact and disciplined...

SF lost to Brazil due to bad defending and bad finishing in attack..

it doesn't matter who starts the starting 11 should be ready to concentrate, press and pack the bus or Spain will beat Nigeria 10 - 0..

Any lack of concentration and Spain will pass the ball into Nigeria's net as if Nnadozie is a bad keeper..

Echegini must not start.. she does not drop deep to help the defenders and midfield and she does not know how to shoot.
The best way to defend is to attack. The Brazillian's kept us in our own half for most parts of the game.We defended well against them but offered very little threat in attack.

Football is all about tactics and strategy. You can beat a very good side with the right tactics-Kloop.

Echegini Onyinye must start. She boasts of the best goal contribution amongst the players (midfielders) invited.Check her goals and assists for Juventus last season. She even had a shot that missed the net by a whisker before the conclusion of the first half.

She was played on the wings instead of as an SS or AM(i.e behind the main Striker) which is her preferred role thereby affecting her efficiency.

Okeke played the LB role like a CB as she did not overlap neither did she join the attack. She forced Onyinye to drop deep , making things difficult for her.
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by EEGA: 3:23pm On Jul 27, 2024
To beat Spain we need a creative mid-field, with both Ajibade and Echegini starting in front of Abiodun and Ucheibe.Use Alozie and Nicole as wing-backs.Ohale, Demehin and Okeke starts as centre-backs.

Esther Okoronkwo should lead the attack while Macleans Chinonyerem comes from the bench.
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by EEGA: 1:39pm On Jul 26, 2024
Kanu is not a CF. She is a LWF who can also function as a false 9. She lacks the positioning and spatial awareness to play as a striker, because she thrives in running into spaces down the flank. We need more creative legs in midfield so that the attackers can see more of the ball.Recall that both Ucheibe and Abiodun are both defensive midfielders.
codemaniacs:
back 3 is good..

but you are forgetting that footballers are not static and can switch or move positions during the match which means 2 at the back can become 3 at the back if one of the DMs like Ucheibe drops deep to help the CB infact against Brazil they played 4 at the back because Abiodun and Ucheibe were doing all the tackling and interceptions for the defenders..

the problem was Echegini did not move to CM or CAM while Abiodun and Ucheibe dropped to help the CBs so there was no one in midfield to transition the ball...

no need to move Ajibade to the middle. let Kanu play as CF while ihezuo moves to LWF and since players can move positions during the match ihezuo should also play closer to Kanu as LCF which is what I expected Echegini to do instead of just staying as the Left Wing she should have move downwards and played as SS to Ihezuo and should have also dropped deep to help Okeke with the defense then run with the ball to Offense the same way Ajibade was helping the defense and carrying the ball to Offense..
SportsRe: Nigeria Female National Teams' Thread by EEGA:
If we want to get a result against Spain, we must move Ajibade to the middle as AMF.

Esther Okoronkwo starts as CF.

Nicole Payne and Alozie as wing-backs.

We can play a 3-4-2-1 formation.

.....,..................... Nnadozie.........................

.. . ....... Okeke ...... Ohale .. ... Demehin

...Nicole.........................................,...........Alozie .. .

....................Ucheibe......Abiodun..........................
....................Echegini.....Ajibade................. . .......

.......................... Okoronkwo...............................

A 3-2-4-1 will get us a result against Spain.

Our midfield lacked creativity. We couldn't create any meaningful chance for our forwards.

Our wingers have also been sub-par.

The above formation ensures we remain solid at back while ensuring smooth transition from defence to attack, as Rasheedat will be saddled with playmaking duties. She will also operate as a Support Striker alongside Echegini(since both can easily score when played just behind the main striker) just behind the mobile and pacy Esther Okoronkwo.

Truth be told, this English team has the quality. I said it from the beginning of the tournament in their opener against Serbia but their issue is the stiffling coaching of Southgate.

This England lead is as a result of the players pushing. Not down to any Southgate magic and because this is their case, they may not survive a stronger, better, technically superior and more tactical opponent.

England is lucky to be in this half of the round of 16 draws. The other half houses the true powerhouses that could hurt them but even at that, their path is still not all safe.
They can get to the Semi-finals, if they start with the line-up that got them the equaliser and the winner.

Kane and Toney upfront.

Palmer and Eze also starts.

Southgate should sub Kane at the beginning of the second half if they want to progress beyond this round.

I expect to see Palmer by 65th minute.

Eze can also play a part in midfield.

Throwback.

My post immediately after the AFCON loss.
Finidi made the mistake of playing both Ndidi and Onyedika in the same mid-field.The both failed to click as a double pivot.

Whenever they start together there is no clear definition of roles.

The pair did not click against Mali.

Against Mozambique a mid-field pivot of Onyeka and Onyedika clicked.

Our mid-field should have been Onyedika,Iwobi and Dele Bashiru.

or

Ndidi,Iwobi and Bashiru/Olawoyin.

Finidi got it wrong by starting Ndidi alongside Onyedika. The pair seems to have no clear definition of roles whenever they start together, as evident in the match against Mali.

He should have dropped one for the other, while starting Yusuf. His mid-field needed a work horse like Yusuf.

Before the match I predicted a 3-5-2, with Chukwueze and Lookman leading the attack.

Onuachu was average against SA,Boniface is unfit while Moffi didn't have the best of games from the bench.

Joebie:
On paper against SA Lookman played as a LW. But that's only on paper.
Lookman's shots were blocked for the most part, not from the wings. Most of his runs were not from the wings. He did his usual advances to creating space to shoot, but the SA defense were well drilled and disciplined enough to crowd him and block his shots. This is where we missed an imposing CF, one to stretch the opponents defense, that will create space for Lookman to thrive.
Aa ah, Joebie we watched this match together.

Sometimes he was wide crossing for Onuachu, other times he was trying to drift into the box to shoot on goal.

Both for Atalanta and even in the AFCON, his goals came as an AML,LSS and false 9.

A position just behind the main Striker not playing as an inverted winger or as a traditional winger.

He played the SA match as both a traditional winger and an inverted winger.

@EEGA

In the note of playing Lookman closer to goal, does that not affect the balance of Finidi's play, which I feel resorts in the wide forwards playing wide, to expand the defensive shape of the opposition, and create room in the center for the team to attack.

If we work with that notion, I feel Childera Ejuke should have been called up because he fits more into the wide playing role than Lookman.
Childera Ejuke can play the LWF in a 3-2-4-1.

When it comes to creating chance the Leverkusen side is the best in the Bundesliga last season.

Boniface was not 100% fit which is the reason, he came from the bench.

He had 45 mins on the pitch in a Europa League final but couldn't get on the score sheet. This is down to full fitness.

M7even:
Onuachu has a better goal sense than these guys. He might be slow which is his weakness but when played to his full strength he is a menace. For club football, his only mistake was his desperation to play in England where he found himself in relagation battling Southampton. Asides that he has consistently shown he has every potential to be a good forward player. I know the national team has no time for all that as we want result instantly. But then, coaches know better. At the last AFCON he was our second choice striker to Osimhen, and not Moffi, there is a consistent reason for that even while Moffi came as an earlier replace for Boniface and Onuachu came later to replace Sodiq. So I tell you, if only we can yield to play to his strength which we saw while he was at Belgium. I dare say no Nigerian player dominated the Belgian league like Onuachu did.
Onuachu was not Jose Peseiro's second choice striker.

He calls on Onuachu when we are trying to hold on to a lead.Onuachu does this by drawing fouls from the opponent, which tends to slow the tempo of the game.

Against South Africa in the Semi-finals of the AFCON, when we needed a winner, he called on Moffi.

This is because, Moffi is good on the counter and can get us a goal in counter attacking situations due to his electric pace and trickery.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by EEGA: 5:26pm On Jun 09, 2024
No they are not.

Chukwueze played RW, while Lookman played LW.

As a winger you tend to pass or cross to the Striker, attacking midfielder or an on-rushing team mate. It's rare to see a winger send the ball to the opposite flank.

The both have played together in times past and exchanged passes a couple of times.

Call-ups should be according to performance in one's league while considering the competitive nature of the league i.e the position of the league and club in the UEFA and world ranking.

For crying out loud, you can't be enjoying retirement money in a less competitive league like the Saudi Arabia Premiership and be expecting call-ups to the senior national team of Nigeria.

We are not Montenegro or Libya.

How can we have the best strikers banging all cylinders in the top 3 and top 5 leagues and still be inviting veterans in back water leagues?

You want to start Chukwueze and Lookman as your strikers?

Na wa o
]In a 3-5-2 the both can play as our strikers.

They have both played this position a couple of times.

Our Strikers do not get on the score sheet when called upon.Moffi and Onuachu missed chances.Boniface is just returning from injury. He struggled when called upon in the Europa League Final. He lasted for 45 minutes on the pitch but couldn't convert any of the chances created for him.

Finidi's mistake in our last game was playing Lookman as a LWF instead of AML and LSS.

Lookman for the past 2 seasons has been more effective for Atalanta as a false 9 in a 2-man attack or as an AML or LSS when playing behind the main striker as seen in Atalanta and the AFCON.

In the AFCON, his goals came while playing behind Osimhen while Zaidu as a LWB covered the whole of the left flank with Moses Simon playing as a wide forward by whipping in crosses for the both.We saw Simon interchanging with Lookman but was always playing as a wide forward. This is the reason why Simon has only assists to his name and was without a goal.

Lookman couldn't get a goal on Friday, because he was always wide.He is either crossing for Onuachu or drifting into the box to shoot.

To get the best out of Lookman you must play him in his most effective position as we did in the AFCON or like he plays in Atalanta.

Lookman is better as a false 9,AML or LSS.Chukwueze can also partner him as he has played that position a couple of times in his Villareal days.

If I may ask.Why should you leave your most clinical player on the wings to be whipping in crosses for another striker, when he can easily get you goals and the needed 3pts when he plays just behind the main striker as seen in the AFCON or in Atalanta or when he features as a 9?

Lookman functions best when he is very close to the box.He is a fox and predator in the box.

My Analysis of our Game Against SA

I predicted that Findi will be playing breathtaking/attacking football before the game on Friday.

Defence: Nwabali did well.

Ajayi and Bassey were solid. The pair has played together for a long time and have built a telepathic understanding between them. The central defence position requires 2 CB who have played a couple of games together and have built a certain Chemistry between them.

Bright Osayi Samuel did very well as a make-shift left-back.

Benjamin Tanimu is a Centre Back and not a Right Back.He made a lot of tackles, interceptions and recoveries, typical of a good centre back.He couldn't join the attack nor make overlapping runs down the right like Osayi since it's not his natural position.

Verdict on the Defence:Nwabali starts again as GK.

We should revert to a back 3 with the trio of Benjamin Tanimu, Ajayi and Bassey playing as centre backs.

Bright Osayi Samuel will now operate as a left-wing back while Sodiq Ismail of Remo Stars plays the right-wing back.My choice of Sodiq Ismael is because of his numbers in goals and assists this season for Remo Stars in the NPFL.

Mid-field:In the absence of Frank Onyeka, Wilfred Ndidi starts as holding midfielder with Alex Iwobi playing as a central midfielder.

Fisayo Dele Bashiru starts as attacking midfielder.

Attack:Since Paul Onuachu did not get on the score sheet and was average bar his pre-assist for Dele Bashiru's goal, he should be dropped to the bench.

Lookman did not play in his preferred or most effective role.He played mostly as a wide forward on the left, crossing the ball for Onuachu who couldn't get on score sheet. This hinders his efficiency in front of goal as Lookman goals this season has always come with him playing behind the striker as either AML or LSS, as seen in the AFCON and for Atalanta this season.

Lookman starts in a 2-man attack with chukwueze.Chukwueze had a fine game he was a threat in the second half and almost got on the score sheet, if not for the ball hitting the bar.He is not new to this position, as he has played in a two-man attack before. In one occasion was the game against Bayern in the champions league when he came from the bench for Villareal to net the winner.

This formation will earn us a comfortable win with a 2 goal margin.

Nwabali

Tanimu Ajayi Bassey

Sodiq Osayi

Ndidi Iwobi

Fisayo

Chukwueze Lookman

It's a 3-2-2-1-2.A variant of 3-5-2.

I'm the guy that predicted Fisayo scoring or assisting on Friday which he did by getting us the equaliser.
