Now that we are almost done with most of these fashion concepts get your fabrics ready coz the sewing shall soon start ![]() In the main time pls send in pictures and name the shapes.remember its the let's sew for fun class.........oya ![]() |
Now The Designers Dream shape. The hour glass shaped woman is considered the best shape by the media becouse her waist is small and her tommy is flat.........bla bla bla ![]() (as if that can change the price of pepper in the market ) this is why most times when a designer makes new collections and wants to show case them he/she would rather go for an hour glass shaped model.its easier to work with this group becouse most times anything you put on them just seems perfect. Many times a designer is given the job to help create the illusion of having an hour glass shape on a client who may be very far from it but has the money to pay.........this is where the challenge comes in.At this point, the end result of the job will state clearly if the so called designer is just one of those tailors |
The last is the diamond shape, well to me if you've seen the round shape then u know the diamond shape ![]() |
The last group is the triangle and the inverted triangle Using the key measurement areas bust waist hip.the triangle woman has small bust area, her waist is not small and my not be shaped, and her hips is big.the other has the opposit, her bust is big waist is almost like the bust and her hip is very small. Will send in pictures later ![]() |
The round shape is most times the biger version of the square shape
|
ya all,The square shape and the round shape What these two shapes have on common is the fact that they have little or no waist line at all.most married women happen to fall in this group as a result of child birth or "The glory of God stage"as some naija women call it. ![]() Note that some women move from shapes as a result of age -ie if she was an hour glass in her teens when she starts family life she moves to square and later round shape. Square shape
|
Here is the figure 8 shape, bust, waist and big hips
|
This is to say that we can have an hour glass shapes woman in small size medium size or large size as long as we can identify her key measurement areas and they meet the requrement of an hour glass. Time for pictures ![]() Here is an hour glass shape
|
Types of Body Shapes Useing the diagram above (left to right) 1) Trangle 2) Inverted Trangle 3) Square 4) Hour glass 5) Diamond shape 6) Round shape. I like to add to these shapes so we would have 7 in total and that's the shape we generally call figure 8 here ![]() On sizes we have the small group, medium group and the large group.
|
To films and sezie you guys are the best thanks. ******class time Body shapes and sizes 1)Types 2) designers dream shape 3) How to work with shapes to get desired result. There are many shapes and sizes ,(ie the gap between Lepas and Orobos world wide ![]() )As a designer, its very important you know them all by sight.this will help you make good recommendations for our clients. Also knowing these shapes and sizes just might save you some unnecessary quarrels that may arise as a result of the style not fitting her body type, and she goes away unhappy thinking you just another crapy tailor. ![]() for example just becouse an outfit looks fine and perfect on Omotola in a magazin dosen't mean it will look good on your client who looks like Ronke Oshodi,or a Toyin Tomato. ![]() Its your job as a designer to let the client know from the start if the style she has selected will work for body type or not.if she insist after your explanation then it will be on record that you told her yes while doing this its also necessary to be tactful ![]() Some great fashion forword thinkers have identified 6 different body shapes and 3 major body size groups.this brings me to our frist sub topic, types of body shapes and sizes. The key measurement areas we want to take note of while we examing these shapes are Bust, waist and Hip. *****stay tuned ![]()

They are as follows- 1, Front Block Bodice 2,Back Block Bodice 3,Front skirt/trouser block 4,Back skirt/trouser block 5,Sleeve block The front block bodice is any piece of fabric covering from the shoulder down to our natural waist line.ie,the navel area.at this point we are not concerned with the type of style, neck line design or finishing you use in that front area.we just believe that, according to the principle of being well dressed, the front part should have a covering. ![]() The Back Block bodice is also any piece of fabric covering the back side from the shoulder down to the waist area. The front block skirt/trouser is the covering from the waist down to your toe. The Back Block Skirt/trouser is also the covering at the back area from the waist to the heels if need be. The sleeve Block is every fabric that we use to cover our hand area,be it short medium or long sleeve In the diagram below the front and back blocks area placed on fold

Thanks to you too sis, ![]() Now the next topic is basic blocks in fashion THE 5 BASIC BLOCKS. Generally we have 5 basic blocks we must consider when making garments for male female and kids.the five basic block areas are expected areas on a humans body our sown garment "should" cover. Pls note the word should cover as its not a must that all designs must cover the specific areas I will soon mention. |
Next is taking accurate measurement.its Important to take accurate measurements as this would directly affect the end result of the project. *Note that its best to take the measurement from shoulder to toe, this way you won't forget any part if you are measuring some one else. MEASUREMENT Shoulder-shoulder bone to shoulder bone Neck -Neck depth, from shoulder down. Sleeve -sleeve short,3quater or long lenght Arm -the circumfrence of your arm The bust area is next ,we measure that by lenght and circumfrence. Bust by lenght Bust measurement by lenght is taken from the should down to the upper bust area, shoulder to bust area, shoulder to under bust area. Bust by circumference Upper bust-circumfrence of the upper bust area Bust - " " " " " Under bust-" " " " " Waist- circumfrence and lenght or waist Hip -circumfrence around the hip Lenght - top lenght or dress lenght Skirt Waist -circumfrence Hip. -circumfrence Half lenght-taken from the waist down to. 2inches above the knee. Full lenght-its taken from waist to the toes This ends our measurment class.pls make sure u master all these measurement areas as I shall be making reference to it from time to time. *in picture some measurement area. Our next topic will be Basic Blocks in fashion designing stay tuned ![]() ![]()
