student practicals
|
anitaoluchi: I love this but ikeja is too far from hereOh dear so sorry.but we do have hostel ![]() |
And here we go, thanks to Ngozi at Valisimo Fashion School for making this lovely project for us ![]()
|
Class**************************************************** So after joining the shoulder we join the sides.on one side we add zip so it can be worn without stress
|
Nice fabric dear ![]() mysteriouxx: Mrs Val, pls wats d difference between lining nd facing? Wats facing meant for:? ThanksLining is expected to go all the way on a fabric.while the facing stops around the neck.but basically they perform similar functions which is to give weight to the main fabric.prevent fading in certain parts of the outfit.help make seam edges neat.etc. |
oluwaphemiee: Wow tenx for disYou welcome ![]() |
mamatwo: Aunts Val, do we attach the lining to the front piece before joining the shoulders? Also, I noticed your back piece doesn't have lining, only facing?Well yes since the front lining is cut together with the front as double facing. See earlier picture. |
njel: Aunty efosa, does the front neck fold into the shoulderNo it folds down to the chest area.
|
The facing on the front is all the way down but u can make it half way if u want.
|
sunshyng: Ok ma, dat s clear but looking at d pic, how do I determine where to cut out my arm hole for d front, since her shoulder is 12 and d bck bodice we are using is 16 plus seam allowance I know I will measure 6.5 for d shoulder to cut out my armhole but for d front am lost n dat area ma, pls shed more light. ThanksThe bust area is 16 right while the shoulder is 12.........it means u are going to fold that straight 26 into 16 first then out of the 16 u cut out 2 on both sides of the arm whole which gets the measurement back to 12 on the shoulder while u still have 16 on the bust. The picture below explains it all.
|
Oh dear wish this was posted earlier would have made plans.............pls how much is ticket to the event.? Just incase I am done with my previous appointment so I can still come. |
We done with the cutting its time to move to the sewing We join the shoulder together first.
|
Because I don't want the back to sag I will cut it normally and add facing. Shoulder12 Body remember we got 16 When placed on fold it will look this when spread open it will be like the second pic
|
sunshyng: Yes Ooº°˚°˚˚˚ ! Class pls be attentive, d lesson in progress is d koko now, mam If I get u right does it mean d 16 we got at first s for d back bodice while 26 will be for d front bodice? No both is for the front bodices alone but up and down.the up part is the neck side and that's the one measuring 26 for it to sag the 16 is for the down part of the blouse
|
Shawdey: Pls how many yards of ankara will be enough for the gown my bust is 35, waist 32, hip 37A yard plus...... Pls let's all focus on the topic at hand so we won't get distracted . |
Shawdey: Pls how many yards of ankara will be enough for the gown my bust is 35, waist 32, hip 37A yard plus....... |
Class ****************************** Now still on the neck part See how wide the shoulder area is in the picture above.let me explain using the first daigram. The diagram shows the neck and shoulder area,it also shows how u determine the lenght of the neck down from the shoulder. Going back to Ngozi's measurement for the neck 6 inch accross the shoulder, 7 inch deep.while her shoulder is 12inch Now becouse the neck has to sag and we not cutting any part out like other regular necks lines we are gonno measure it in a special way I want to sag abit so I will use the lenght of the neck deept by 2 7 is the lenght for her neck remember, now we would make this 7x2 =14 12 inch is what I measured her shoulder, so I will add that 14 I got from the neck to the shoulder which is. 12+14=26 The body part is needed now, remember we got 16 so we would use the 16 and 26 as our fabric placed on fold. |
Awww thanks so much to all and wellcome to class its a lovely weekend for me and I hope it is for u too![]() Been trying to post since but etisalate dey show me pepper.but anyway let's go. **************************************** So when making a cowl neck just like other neck lines and tops we go back to the basic principles of bodice.(Front and back bodice of a garment) in order to get this we need our measurements So I will work with one of my students measurement,Ngozi she's a perfect small size ![]() Shoulde-12 Neck wide- 6 Neck deepth 7 Bust. 26 Waist. 22 Hip. 26 Lenght. 25 So in all her measurement the bust and hip is the same and are the biggest so we use that to place our fabric on fold, fabric for the front part on fold as well as fabric for the back side on fold. Eg that 26÷4=6.5 Out of these we need just 2 for the front 6.5 x 2= 13 On this 13 for the body area of the front I will add seam allowance which is 1.5 on both sides making 3.in total I will have 13+3=16 Now the Neck part, because of the way the neck is we must factor in facing on the same fabric.I call it self-facing Generally u have to determine how deep u want the neck to be and this would determine how wide we need to make the shoulder cut See the following images for more clearification.

Rityben: Hi. I want to learn how to sew.Learning how to sew takes only a few hours actually, its learning how to use the different technics that becomes the challenge.personally I advice students coming to my fashion school to go for at least 6months becouse of the following reasons The price for the 3month program is usually higher than others when u divide it by duration, and its like that in vertually all fashion schools in Naija.reason being that the tutor has to rush you over so many sewing methods in that shot time, thus stressing him or her more becouse at the end if u are not happy with what u got you will feel bad ![]() Most times its not that same day u are taught that u know it so u need more time to do it over and over again till u become perfect at that perticular method.so for many 3months is never enough to get a hang of things Its just that schools can't do without putting 3months in the list of their categories coz when peoples see the price tag on the 6months and 9months they just go Those that I encourage to do 3 months are those with a previous knowledge on it so they are just coming to perfect their skills on it not starting from the scratch. So if u have time go for the longer period and take advantage of the price reduction u get on the longer periods.both ways it favours u.there is no fast track to this thing trust me I know u still have to learn it step by step.what u will be able to do at the end of 3months can never be the same as with 6months or 9months![]() For more fashion tips add me on bb-2B08881A You could also call or wattsapp me on 08096577157 Our websit is www.valisimofashions.com We on facebook as well as instagram. simia: I am a new follower, i would love to know if pencil skirt is the only one that has been done so far on here... Thank youNo dear,we did like 5 skirts we did trouser,we did several free tops using the basic front and back bodies and different neck lines,we were on the last one when the site crashed.we had over 40+ pages which was cut down to just 4,but its all good don't worry I will still visit those topics /od willing for the sake of new folks here. ![]() Back to class******************** Hummmmmm ladies I must say I am really getting inspired with all these fabrics you guys are posting here. ![]() biko keep them comingNow let's talk about the cowl neck line The cowl neck has one distinctive feature and that's the use of excess fabric used to form the neck line.the exccess fabric tipically sags down to for this neck line .this neck line can go with any type of sleeve, sleeveless short sleeve, qauter sleeve or lone sleeve.depending on you,you can make the front and back of the sag as cowl neck or you make only the front sag.but while measuring the fabric for the neck line,be carefull not to make it too wide as this would make it loose shape and may fall off the neck if its too big ![]() |
oluwaphemiee: IDear Efosa, hw do u get d basemenet circunference of a pencil skirt or do u jus need to curve it inward without measurement? We have gone past this a long time ago o,but I never say no to a good question so here we go ![]() Determining the base of a penile skirt is very easy, what ever your waist is,when making regular skirt u just deduct 1 inch from both sides starting from the thigh down to the base but that of pencil skirt u go in more than 1 inch depending on how thight you want it at the end. |
Well b4 all the mess happend we talked about our free scholarship program, Yea after alll the screning we finaly sellected 4 people for the free scholarship program.their lecture starts this week. yodiyokun: Continue, but this is a serious loss. all the tutorial you did was reference material for me as I'm sure it was for others. So we would continue then. ![]() We were on the cowl neck line so we would continue from there. Start posting pictures of ur fabric while I get the tutorials ready |
Chai.......................feel so sad.this thread had like 42 pages and on page 40 we had all the gone too soon on Onarri on it,now all that is just gone which kind tin be this na ![]() Haba all those lovelly sew along we did..... ![]() |
Hummmm! A lot happened while nairaland was down at valisimo fashions school o, Frist off,we did the scholarship sellection, which many people applied for, eventually about 10 of them were called in for the interview.out of which only 6 made it physically to the school on the 24 of june 2014 for the final interview. At the end of the whole interview 4 winners where sellected for the free tution while the other 2 wear giving juw dropping discounts.it was a fair sellection and the school was in a giving spirit coz the initial plan was to pick just 2 but they ended up with 4 thanks to the madam her self. After that day people who missed the free offer kept calling the offical line and asking when we would do it again and how the school would compensate them,so our madam came up with this genus idea of a code system Now if you are sure of registering for any of the at our school next week, u ping or call to get a code which automatically qualifies you for an amazing discount.you give ur full name as well so the admin personal can identifiy you with the code giving.the code offer will last for only this coming week Call 08096577157 or ping-2B08881A As for our online class here, I think we should vote on what to do. Do we go back to the begining or do we just continue from where we stoped So just type Go back. Or Continue then we take it from there.
