Family / Re: I Am Beginning To Despise My Parents... Am I Overreacting? by eiete(f): 12:53am On Mar 26, 2018
Desirae:
Hello everyone.

I come from a very overprotective and irrational family. I just turned 30, I’m gainfully employed and doing so well in my career.

However, my social life is suffering. Most times I want to spend weekends with friends, or just hang out with colleagues after work, but by 7:00 I’ll already have over 15 calls from my parents asking if I’m on my way home. Yeah, I live with my parents.

Presently, I’ve been searching for an apartment so I would move out of their house. I need my freedom and independence. I feel like I can’t breathe!

Even weekends, when I decide to go out and chill with friends, they ask all manner of questions “who are you doing with, where are you going to, hope you’ll be back before 5”. Seriously! I’m 30 years old! And they’ll be the ones asking why I haven’t brought a husband. Where will I find him? In my office? Or in my bedroom?

The last straw was last week. My best friend lost her mum. When I told my own mum, her response was “oh she has finally died? Ehn, shey she’s been sick. Why do you now want to spend the weekend with her? For what”

I was furious, but I didn’t say a word so I won’t regret anything. How would she feel if her husband died and someone said “oh he’s finally dead?” Even my dad doesn’t help matters! How insensitive could people be?! They seem to forget death is inevitable. And anyone can go at anytime.

I’ve made up my mind to move out this month. I love them, I wish them well, but I can’t do all of this madness with them. I’m done being controlled and told what to do and what not to do. I’m not a kid. Most of my mates have more than 2 children.

I love them, but I’m done!

At least your parents don't make plans for you like mine do. My parents would make plan and tell me about it after, then become upset when i inform them I have plans. Their standard line being 'Kids of now days, in our time...'

You failed to fully understand the picture you posted. A Canadian Born Child does NOT need to APPLY for citizenship, they do NOT need to fill out any form, their citizen is inherent in their birth on Canadian land, sea or air space, and guaranteed by the 'Charter of Rights' of Canada. The form you pictured and pasted is used by children APPLYING for citizenship based on parentage etc., you need to fully understand what you read and pasted, otherwise you make a fool of yourself.

That's where you are wrong sir. One needs to provide proof of a Childs citizenship to get a Canadian passport. To get a certificate of citizenship the child has to have meet certain criteria. Eg: parents or a parent being a Canadian at time of birth, not just being born in Canada alone.

Politics / Kashamu Was Arrested, Tried In UK Court – Police by eiete(f): 8:40pm On Jun 18, 2015

FROM: KINGSLEY OMONOBI-ABUJA.

The Police headquarters in Abuja Thursday said it received a letter from the British High Commission stating that Prince (Senator) Buruji Kashamu was indeed arrested and tried in a United Kingdom criminal court.
A statement signed by CP Emmanuel Ojukwu, Force Public Relations officer, said that the UK court was however not satisfied that Prince Kashamu had a case to answer.
“However, for the avoidance of doubt, the British High Commission letter in question did not derogate from the extradition request by the US authority pending with relevant departments and agencies of government in Nigeria” it said.
The statement reads, “The attention of the Nigeria Police Force has been drawn to a publication on page 4 of the Leadership Newspaper of June 18, 2015, concerning the extradition battles of Prince Buruji Kashamu with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
“For the records, the chambers of TRLP Law, acting on behalf of Prince Buruji Kashamu, had on 14th April, 2015 written the Nigeria Police Force concerning the status of Prince Kashamu’s legal battles in the United Kingdom and United States, following which the Nigeria Police sought relevant clarifications from the British High Commission.
“The authority of the British High Commission confirmed on 27th April, 2015, through a letter to the Inspector-General of Police, that Prince Buruji Kashamu was indeed arrested and tried in the United Kingdom criminal court, but that the court was not satisfied that Prince Kashamu had a case to answer.
“However, for the avoidance of doubt, the British High Commission letter in question did not derogate from the extradition request by the US authority pending with relevant departments and agencies of government in Nigeria.”

“Finally, we advise the Presidential spokespersons to allow Nigerians to judge the President as events and time will prove exactly the taste of the old wine”, the PDP said.

That's the part I like most. It's a clear swipe at Femi Adesina's explanation of PMB's speech to Nigerians in South Africa.
Politics / ‘Stop Making Mockery Of Governance’ PDP Tells APC by eiete(f): 2:03pm On Jun 18, 2015
Read the press statement below...

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has charged the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Presidency to stop making mockery of governance with premature celebration of imaginary achievements except if the intention is to set up President Muhammadu Buhari for national and international ridicule.
The party said it was embarrassing that the APC and aides of President Buhari decided to invade the minds of Nigerians with propaganda and tissues of lies instead of assisting the President who was inaugurated three weeks ago to settle down, form a government and deliver his campaign promises to Nigerians.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh in a statement on Thursday said “the nation and democrats world over were thoroughly embarrassed by the frivolous list of so-called achievements which has further exposed APC’s lack of capacity and direction as well as the inability to draw a line between propaganda by an opposition party and disseminating of credible information as a party in government”.

“How can a serious government start shouting achievements and make bogus claims on the fight against terrorism when the effort is apparently losing steam as insurgents who had already been pushed to the verge of surrender in the Sambisa forest by the Goodluck Jonathan administration are now surging back into the country under the APC-led government?

“How can a serious government shout achievement based on pledges by foreign interests, a dangerous slide towards neo-colonialism, instead of settling down to galvanize bequeathed resources and potentials that have already placed our great country as one of the fastest emerging economic and political powers in the world?

“How can a serious government shout achievement and attempt to explain away the untidy fact that after three weeks, it has not been able to organize itself even to take basics steps of conventional appointments such as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Chief of Staff to the President and advisers in key sectors of the economy.

We ask, is the APC celebrating that fact that due to its naivety and delays, key sectors of our nation’s economy are dangerously drifting with a perilous crippling of foreign and domestic investments including activities in the money and capital market sectors?

“Our promise has been to engage in credible opposition and provide alternatives and options to the policies and programmes of the APC-led Federal Government in the general interest of the nation, but alas, in less than one month, even with the stability bequeathed by the Jonathan administration, we have only witnessed inexcusable confusion and administrative naivety in the handling of important issues as seen in their poor outing at the inauguration of the National Assembly, unnecessary delays in the setting up of structure for the executive arm and the worrisome inability to urgently provide a national economic direction, among others.

“This is a party and government that promised Nigerians that they will hit the ground running once elected into office but what we have seen so far is a government and party that hit the ground and remained on the same spot for sheer inexperience and unpreparedness for governance.

“We therefore urge the APC to stop embarrassing the nation with premature and unsubstantiated celebration of imaginary achievements especially if they ever want to be credible and responsible people, as sincerity and not propaganda remains the hallmark of trustworthy administration.

"The APC should not by any means attempt to use its flimsy list to divert attention from its numerous campaign promises for which the people are holding them accountable.

“We wish to inform the APC that the Nigerians will not take anything short of the commencement of the payment of monthly N5, 000 each to 25 million poor citizens beginning from the end of this month; ending of insurgency by the end of July as promised by President Buhari in his April 2, 2015 CNN interview; payment of monthly allowance to discharged but unemployed Youth Corps members, free meals to school children and bringing the naira to the same value with the dollar; among other bogus promises upon which they gained access to power.

“Finally, we advise the Presidential spokespersons to allow Nigerians to judge the President as events and time will prove exactly the taste of the old wine”, the PDP said.

Signed:

Chief Olisa Metuh
National Publicity Secretary

And we were told he once locked out an ambassador for coming to a dinner 15minutes late. When he saw that Saraki and others have started sitting, why didn't he call and tell the members waiting for him the latest?

Even the APC Members that were waiting "Foolishly" for Buhari, don't they have aides or family members that would have called them to tell them that the sitting has commenced since it was televised live? It was only after Saraki had won, they now "Heard " and rushed down to the assembly complex. Liars everywhere

As of 11am when Saraki was sworn in Mr President had not yet arrived. According to Lie Mohammad or whatever he is called,Mr President was about to leave his residence for the ICC when he saw the swearing in on TV and called to inform them he was not coming."Don't mind them. APC thinks the Nigerian public are a bunch of kindergarten children who they can feed lies to and they would be none the wiser. APC just got served their own medicine. Let them just swallow it and shut up. Their whining is just getting too much now.

Politics / Saraki’s Presidency Illegitimate, Says Unity Forum Of Senators by eiete(f): 8:28pm On Jun 10, 2015
Abuja – The Unity Forum of Senators said the election of Bukola Saraki as President of the Senate was illegitimate.
The forum, led by Sen. Barnabas Gemade (APC-Benue North East), supports Ahmed Lawan for President of the Senate.
The forum walked out of Wednesday’s plenary session after their protest was ruled out of order by Saraki.
Gemade told journalists that the Clerk of the National Assembly, Alhaji Salisu Maikasuwa, was to blame for the emergence of Saraki.
He said Maikasuwa disobeyed the instruction of President Buhari to delay the inauguration of the 8th Assembly pending his meeting with All Progressives Congress’ (APC) senators-elect.
Gemade contended that the non-delay denied the senators-elect who went for the meeting with the President their right to nominate the candidate of their choice.
He said the insinuation that the senators who were absent during the election boycotted it was unfounded, stressing that they had as loyal party members, gone to heed the call of the President.
“This process, which remains unconstitutional, cannot confer legitimacy on the elected Senate President.
“Our right to participate in the election of the Senate President is a constitutional right which cannot be taken by any person of group.
“The Clerk of the National Assembly knowing full well that the quorum for election had not been met, went ahead to conduct the election that shut the door to 51 other senators.
“We will like to make it very clear that the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria gives the letter for the Proclamation.
“The Clerk is the one that received the correspondence of Mr President that there must be a slight delay in order to enable him to speak with senators of the APC before they commence the process.
“In the House of Representatives, they were able to catch up because their own happened after the Senate”, Gemade said.
He said although a quorum was formed for the inauguration of the senate, quorum was not formed for electing principal officers.
He argued that the two-third majority which applied to impeachment should apply to election.
Gemade also said that every eligible senator must be present when nomination was made and closed and if all eligible senators were not present, then a quorum had not been formed.
However, another group of senators, the `Like Minds’, led by Sen. Dino Melaye (APC-Kogi West), dispelled claims of the Unity Forum, saying President Buhari would not fix two meetings at the same time.
“The President, in his constitutional duty, sent a proclamation letter to the National Assembly.
“In that proclamation letter, he stated categorically that the proclamation of the 8th Senate will be done at 10 a.m. on June 9, 2015.
“How can Mr President on one hand send a letter of proclamation to the National Assembly and on the other hand, call for a meeting at the International Conference Centre?
“If Mr President wants to meet legislators, the Defense House is there, the Villa is there, the banquet Hall is there; why International Conference Centre?
“However, did Mr President eventually attend to anybody at International Conference Centre? Capital No! “, Melaye said.
He said Buhari had consistently reaffirmed that he had no preferred candidate and was ready to work with whoever emerged.
Melaye said they were still loyal party members and had declined to attend the meeting as they were kept waiting for hours for a supposed meeting with the Vice President on Monday.
“The Buhari that we know cannot and will not give two contrary opinions, especially one that is against the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“The letter of proclamation was written, duly signed, time stated, date stated, he will not do otherwise.
“It is not true that we disrespected the President and if the President wants to do that, he would have called.
“He had the powers to call the Clerk of the National Assembly to say `please postpone to 12 p.m., I want to meet senators at 9 a.m.
“We in the Like Minds group are ready to have one, united senate”, he stated.
Melaye denied media reports that Sen. David Mark was sworn in as Senate Leader, saying that the position was exclusive to the ruling party. (NAN)

Read my post well again, I'm not disputing that GEJ could have done better when it came to spending on defence, however what my argument is, is that Nigerian's should not taken everything politicians tell as the gospel truth without researching and asking questions. Part of the reason we are where we are today is that Nigerians have failed to hold those we have elected to account.

As for Buhari's spending, what is the whole point of millions spent arming one's self if everyone is dying of hunger.

Do we both realize that we are arguing over a website that started keeping records from 1988 (except Nigeria used to be in NATO prior to 1988), I have looked at the spreadsheet for all member countries and it begins from 1988, so we should be asking ourselves how the data from "Buhari Years" came about.
I think thats the first puzzle we should solve before taking an I.Q test. I did take one not too long ago and it wasn't bad.
but i would be happy to look again if any one can tell me where on the page in the link the data was taken from, thats if I missed it already.

Not only that, but one should be asking, how come at a time when Nigeria could not feed itself, we had enough money to buy ammunitions when we were not at war with anyone?

APC supporters tend to let their brain go into overdrive when they see something that puts GEJ in a bad light. Critical thinking does not seem to be their forte. And that is what the party (APC) is banking, that Nigerians should not scrutinise too closely whatever they say or publish because they will be found lacking.

So so disappointed, I used to have respect for Mrs Dabiri but now that is gone, I guess when you sleep with dogs you get flees.

Nigeria is not the U.S where (before) you can become a citizen by virtue of being born on U.S soil. You are born and bred in Nigeria does not automatically mean you are a Nigerian if neither of your parents or grandparents are not from Nigeria.

So please get your facts straight before coming on here to make a post.

The bible is not in support of Divorce but gave grounds for it. In cases like this separation is encouraged to allow both parties to cool down before coming together to settle their differences.
So for those of them misquoting the Bible to stay in an abusive relationship, they need to go and study Word properly or better off find another reason. After-all the Bible say in (Hosea 4:6)“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” .
Foreign Affairs / Egypt In Crisis: Egyptian Army Deposes Government Of President Morsi. by eiete(f): 8:48pm On Jul 03, 2013
The Egyptian army has suspended the constitution and announced the formation of a technocratic interim government ahead of new presidential elections.
President Morsi rejected an army ultimatum to reach a deal with anti-government protesters, after four days of mass unrest.
Security forces have placed an international travel ban on Mr Morsi and other leading Muslim Brotherhood members.

The head of the Egyptian army has appeared live on television, announcing the suspension of the constitution.

General Abdul Fattah Al-Sisi, flanked by religious and military leaders, said the chief justice of constitutional court would take the powers of the presidency.

His announcement means President Mohammed Morsi is no longer in power.

Anti-Morsi protesters in Cairo's Tahrir Square gave out a huge cheer in response to the speech.

The move follows four days of mass street protests against Mr Morsi, and an ultimatum issued by the military which expired on Wednesday afternoon.

After General Sisi's address, both Pope Tawadros II, the head of the Coptic Church, and leading opposition figure Mohammed ElBaradei made short statements.

Mr ElBaradei said the new roadmap aimed for national reconciliation and represented a fresh start to the January 2011 revolution.

TV stations belonging to Mr Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood went off air at the end of the speech.

Romance / Marriage Mistakes Women Make That Lead To Divorce. by eiete(f): 6:27pm On May 22, 2013
A friend mine posted the link of this article on Facebook. I read it and it made a lot of sense to me and got me thinking of what my parents used to say about relationships. Thought i should share it on here.

Our brains do a wonderful job of seeing what we expect to see, and we are much more likely to view our husband as doing everything wrong when we have developed a negative view of him.

After spending years working with couples, individuals, or people who have been through a breakup or divorce, it seems that there are problems that keep coming up over and over again.

Wouldn’t it be good to know where to really concentrate our efforts, to give marriage the best chance possible?

Here are 6 marriage mistakes that can easily lead to divorce:

1. Talking with friends about the rotten thing you think your husband did to you. Research suggests that friends are often more upset when they think their bestie is being mistreated than when they are experiencing the same treatment themselves. Besides, most of us don’t really understand how our conditioning and wiring as women, and our husband’s conditioning and wiring as a man differ. So conversations about men with women friends often lead to husband bashing that helps nobody. Resolution: Limit talking about upsets or problems to two people: For example a trusted friend, coach or therapist.

2. Thinking That Talking About Problems With Your Husband Is The Answer. All too often women think that talking to our husbands is the way to make them see how their behavior has been affecting us. If the behavior doesn’t change when we first bring it up, we want to talk more, longer, or louder because we think maybe they didn’t get it the first time. One of the highest pet peeves for men is that feeling of being nagged or badgered, especially if they don’t know what is really the matter. The other problem is that the rules of polite, kind, nice conversation that we try to follow as women, often come off as indirect, manipulative, and mysterious to men. Women will then often conclude that their husband doesn’t care because he hasn’t changed. Resolution: Learn communication skills specifically to talk with men, and spend more time DOING fun activities.

3. Thinking That Your Happiness DEPENDS On Your Husband Changing. Research has shown that happiness does indeed increase when your husband changes, yet that change originates with YOU. Paradoxically, the women who focused on becoming more of the person they would like to be, rather than focusing on how their husband had to change, were happier down the road. Resolution: Focus on being the best you.

4. Living Parallel Lives. Living parallel lives is the slippery slope to disconnection. The bonds of marriage thrive on interest in each other, enjoyment of each other’s company, working toward common goals, and spending time together. Couples who are trying to reconnect after children have left home often come to realize that they don’t know each other anymore. Resolution: Take the time to know what is important to your husband, and allow him to know what is important to you.

5. Focusing On What’s Wrong. One of the most difficult scenarios I come across is seeing couples where one or both people are stuck viewing each other through a negative lens, and expecting the worst. Our brains do a wonderful job of seeing what we expect to see, and we are much more likely to view our husband as doing everything wrong when we have developed a negative view of him. A relationship coach can help regain a balanced view. Resolution: Balance your concerns with a positive view. A relationship thrives when we see our partner through rose-colored glasses.

6. I deserve. These words need to be banned from your vocabulary. The mentality that goes along with using these words includes a form of entitlement that kills the softness that is needed for a couple to cherish each other. The words include a demand that your husband do what you want him to. This is very different from knowing internally that you are worth more, and having the communication skills necessary to ask for more. Knowing what you are worth helps you inspire your husband to cherish you. Resolution: Focus on knowing your own worth. Get clear about what is important to you in a relationship, and learn how to ask for it.
