Buchika: thanks Ejaja but apart from the first link the ampu... from dadtco who I 've already contacted have you seen the others working.@ Buchika to be honest I have really not seen the other once work apart from ampu, but I feel the second one would be workable as its of swedish origin, and I trust their craftmanship. And more over it was built for small scale production which the Ampu is not as it cost over a million dollars. Buchika drop me ur contact iyerifama@yahoo.com as I would love to talk to u on certain cassava related matter. |

soladel: Cultivating Cassava commercially is not just what you can get information through browsing, orally or through a medium like this, you need to be close to the expert. Even if you read a manual, farming sometimes don't go the way one plans it.It would be nice if you can share ur findings and recomadations on here, I would also like to contact you for. Some other things. Iyerifama@yahoo.com |
@okonkwo samuel, meeting me on a one on one basis is no problem, drop me an email iyerifama@yahoo.com and we would take it from their |
@Rexyl can You please drop the name of the company and there contact numberso as to enable those that have cassava for sale reach them @sallubelo If you feel you have a better opinion. Why not share it rather than discredit people and provide no tangable arguement to defend ur stand, may I also use this medium to tell u that this place is a forum and we are all here to learn so if u have anything to say it on here so that others can learn from ur point and not droping numnber |
@GGFadar I also want to find out if the lease prices is negotiable ,d how to I Go about the leaseing procces as I want to get the land ASAP. I would like to ask if the fulani men graze their cows arround the settlement and how do dey secure land in the settlements from petty thieves. And finally what kind of irrigation system do the farm settlement have and is it on the government or individual lands |
@GGFadar I think it would be nice if we can talk on phone, so kindly give me your number so I can call you. |
@pman06 Thanks for the advice, but I think you we need to talk, kindly mail me ur number so we can talk. |
@ stagger I have made my enquires, from the various institues that have things to do with cassave and I was told that you better of leaving the cassava for 12 months and that's what most IITa materals states, so if you to go by that that means for u to get the average yield of 25 tons per hectare, enough dry matter and starch content your best bet is to go by with IITA recommendation. Note I never said. The maturity determines the use, all I said was to achieve above 25 tons you should leave it for up to 18 months, although am yet to try this that was what I was told by a major practicing cassava farmer in Nigeria. @ pmano6 Yeah that's what some of the requires, u can harvest ur cassava by 1 week to 18 months or so that's still within the requirements. As for the favour I want you to help me aks if they still have farmland to lease on their farm settlements in either oyo, ogun or osun state and are the land free of trees and were the various settlement are located. @ yakuz I would advice that u look at hetting land in areas like oyo, osun, ogun, ekiti, ondo or even in lagos (in the badagary oand other outskirt town), as lands are cheaper in this area. |
@yakuz That's nice for a start, but I would advice you keep an extra 300 to 500k for the ten hectare farm, as sometime you would encoutercertain thing u di not plan for. As for the duration IITA say it takes 12 months to achieve 25 ton per hectare, while the guys in shonga farm say in other to achieve 30 tons and above advice 18 months. Where do u intend to setup ur farm? |
Emma Ajayi: . Where can one see such a large expance of land to rent? How can one guaranty the security of the farm? Another thing to look at such project need tractor to accomplish.Well for a start 10 hectares is not much if you have the money to cultivate it, as for getting that size of land it depends on which part of the country u are, you can always get lands From LGA, Mins of agric, river basin development authorities, from communities and even individuals. As for ten hectares ur can do it with human labourers. But that's not to say u can't start with one or two hectares and grow from there @kalxavier in my own opinion I would advice you look at starting withthings like vegitable to grow ur money then you can now head into cassava. @everyday it takes cassava between 12 to 18 for industrial use cassava and 12 months for cassava for garri, and those for 6 to 9 months are not advicable as thy can be very very funny and delicate. As for the blueprint you nee to decide what ur target market is and you desired goal in the biz. @pman06 that budget you gave I think is not totally adequate. As for the favor I wanted to ask if you can help me make enaquires at the ogun-osun river basin development authority. |
yakuz: @E-Jaja@yakuz Well it all depends on how much u have for a start, growing a hectare of cassava would cost u between 100 - 150k depending on variable factors, in my own opinion I would advice you go with pman06 were u lease more land and produce more cassava by so doing, u multipled the money you would have used for land buying. In my own opinion I would advice if you have the money you should start with Also make sure that ur would be farmland is in a resonable radius to ur prospective buyer which would save u cost on transportation. 6 I 10 hectares (13 - 25 arces) As for the land make sure the soil fertility is very okay, as it is another factor that would determine how well ur cassava would do and how much fertilizer you would need to apply, the lesser the fertilizer require the ur cost of production. And lastly always identify your target market as it would enble you grow the right variety. As for being ur guardian it would be my pleasure. @pman06 I would like to find out if you based in abeokutA and. Would want to help me with a favour? |
http://www.dynamicagrosol.com/products/index.php you guys can buy the two wheel tractor from the link above. The. Company is based in nigeria |
@ Ib10001 I would like to ask if you guys have being able to get the tractor, what brand and what attachments come with it and can be attached to it. On a second note I would like to talk to you about maize farming as I noticed that your into it, hope you do not mind. |

@ The Unbeatable. I would be waiting For ur. Patiently !!! |
@yakus You have to identify what you want to use your root for as various product have particular varieties that are higly profitable for their production. If I may ask do you have land and what size is it? How much capital do u have to invest? And in what area do you want to base ur production and farming facilities? |
@ stagger I do agree with you, but ignorance can be very costly most times in agriculture, as graduates we were taught to analyse.I expected him to have applied that knowlege in this case. @pman06 you can also sell ur cassava Stem to make more money too, which inturn you can then use to buy stems of varieties u know and is adequate for ur target market |
@ pmann06 Well the fact you did not dtudy agric is no excuse for ur ignorance, I studied computing at both BSc and Msc level so but I have done my research properly in thr last 6 months and am ready to hit the groun runing with alll the information I have gathered. As for the what stagger said regarding local and improvoed variaties are true if you planted the old variaty you should be expecting between 5 to 11 tons and the upper limits applies only when the soil is fertile and best agronomic practices are apllied along side fetilizer. Mind you I would not advice you to replant you current stem if you do no know the variety, knowing the variety u have makes it easier to sell. On the other hand if you can't sell to industrial users then you can go a step forward by adding value to the cassava root by converting it to Garri or fufu and u can sell to the local market @ a resonable price. @ stagger I would like to plead that u give people complete information, and not just give a generic information which does not give intennded farmers a proper information. the national average for cassava per hectare is 25 tons. To achive this certain things have to be put in place. |
@Pman06 I really do not have an idea as to the price flunctuation of cassava, when is best to sell. As for Nigeria starch mail their factory is in ihiala in anambra state, but they have an office in lagos. I would advice you leave ur cassaave for 18 months so as achive yield of between 30 and above (note this only in a very ideal state, were best all best agronomy practices are apllied and varities are planted). I would like to ask how much it cost you to grow a hectare and what variety di you grow?. |
@pman06 I totally agree with you on the price drop, but as u said shopiing around for the right price is the best. I thing ur best bet would be nigeria starch mill, as the buy at farm gate and handle the transportation them self. I also heard there are two other companies in lagos that pay 25k per ton but still can't get hold of their names. The 20k ur mentione is that including or excluding transportation cost. As for able to make go profit in cassave farming I thinks is to Identify who ur casssava is ment for, by so doing u have a buyer even before havest and an agreed price. Secondly try as much as to ensure you follow atandard agronomic practices by so doing you should be able to attain an average of 25 ton per hectare. HaTty farmer get as much as 30 to 50 ton per hectare.so in a situation were u are able to produce more per hectare that's to ur. Own good as u tend to make. I would like to ask how many hectares do you have abd were is ur farm located, and finally what was ur cost of growing Per hectare.!!!! Hope to hear from u soon. |
@ the unbeatable your still yet to throw more lite on the questions I asked earlier, here are the questions again I would like to findout what you mean by it involves somany thing in cassava and maize production. I would also like to findout how much it would cost to setup a simple irrigation system (sprinkler). And I would like to ask what types of vegitables or crop with a 30 to 90 day cycle would sell in the south west, as I plan to go into vegitable production while I wait for the cassava to mature. |
Matna is in ondo state, Nigeria startch mill ins in anambra state and plstary is in oyo state, you can google them to get their full address |
@ pman06 I have not dealt with any of them but In my cause of research I have come to know about them. The price ranges from 12 to 25k depending on who ur selling urs to, and how well the root is in terms of freshness. I also forgot to mention ekha agro who is another very major buyer of cassava @ realdeal is 20k per ton is it not better of that what the garri buyers would offer, or the price of cassave three years back the went for as low as 7k |
@ pman06 and Emma the cassava market is big so it all depend on the varriety of cassava u grow, it your cassava has high starch content, you are better contacting nigerian starch mills, matna foods or plstary international. |
Is the 3k per hectare or acre?how much is it if am to buy per hectare. Does the farm settlement have irrigation system. If am to lease or buy how am I to go about it. Please I'm counting on you. Thanks so much!!!!!!!!! |
@ The unbeateable yes i totally agree with you that the market for cassava and maize can be very discouraging. i have done a few reseach in the last 6 months and i intended make it buy producing root varieties with higer starch and an average of 30 ton per hectare for cassava and improved maize seed that can produce upto 3ton per hectare . which is one area where most farmers get it wrong especially in the production for cassava. http://www.tfinigeria.com/pricing.aspx The link above is the current price of cassava from the company and other companies offer between 15 to 25k. And for maize I was told to either deal with the likes of nestle by becoming a contract farmer to them or sell to the national grain reserve for 100 naira per kg which make it 100k per ton. From my finding most cassava farmers fo not not identify there market, weither its for starch, flour or glucose. I would like to findout what you mean by it involves somany thing in cassava and maize production. I would also like to findout how much it would cost to setup a simple irrigation system (sprinkler). And I woul like to ask what types of vegitables woul sell in the south west, as I plan to go into vegitable production while I wait for the cassava to mature. |
Gooday Dr Isa and unbeatable. I would like to commend you guyd for the great deal of expositions you two have added to this thread I am looking at kickstarting my farming project with crop productions from next planting season come next year. I intend to startup with cassava and maize, with my target buyers being industral users(starch nd flour) from my reasearch I have noticed that their is a short suply of this crops for industral usage, which is why I would like to seek ur advice on this crops. I would like to use this medium to ask if I can ger you numbers or email for a private discussion as I have a lot to ask. My email is iyerifama@yahoo.com. Hope to hear from u guys soon |
