jimparke: Just to add a comparative perspective, divorce process and terminology vary a lot by jurisdiction. In Australia, for example, divorce is generally based on 12 months’ separation, and the divorce order is separate from property settlement and parenting arrangements. Parke Lawyers has a practical Australia-focused guide here: https://pl.com.au/information-centre/how-to-apply-for-divorce-australia
Obviously, Nigerian procedure is different, so anyone dealing with a Nigerian marriage or court process should get Nigerian legal advice.

Children from Igbo households recorded the highest level of foundational reading skills (58%), followed closely by Edo (57%) and Yoruba (51%). In contrast, Fulani (6%) and Kanuri (10%) children recorded the lowest levels.
NB: In the MICS module, foundational reading skills refer to the expected learning outcomes in basic reading and comprehension for children in Grades 2 and 3. These skills were assessed among children aged 7–14 years.
You are deceiving yourself with this motor park statistics.
Igbos know themselves that many of their children within the age gap cannot read. SW is number 1 on the list . Yorubas are crazy about education unlike in the SE where many Igbos will not come to school because it is Eke or Orie market day!
Dpharmacist: Every year, men die by suicide at a much higher rate than women in many parts of the world. The reason is not necessarily because life is harder for men. One major reason is that many men were never taught that asking for help is a sign of strength.
The Men's Mental Health Awareness Month (observed every June) theme for 2026 is "More Good Days, Together."
From childhood, many boys hear the same messages repeatedly.
"Men do not cry."
"Be strong."
"Handle your problems yourself."
"Never show weakness."
Over time, these words become beliefs. Many men learn to hide their pain instead of talking about it. They smile while struggling with depression, anxiety, financial pressure, relationship problems, loneliness, and emotional trauma. Sadly, many suffer in silence until it becomes unbearable.
Mental health is not a women's issue or a men's issue. It is a human issue.
According to global health data, millions of men live with mental health disorders, yet many never seek professional help. Suicide remains one of the leading causes of death among men in several age groups across the world. Behind these numbers are fathers, brothers, husbands, sons, friends, and colleagues whose pain often went unnoticed.
Seeking help does not make a man weak.
Ignoring serious emotional struggles does not make a man strong.
Real strength is recognising when you need support and having the courage to ask for it. Some of the strongest men are those who admitted they were struggling, sought help, rebuilt themselves, and continued moving forward.
Families also have an important role to play. Boys should be raised to express emotions in healthy ways instead of suppressing them. Workplaces should encourage mental wellbeing instead of rewarding burnout. Friends should learn to ask meaningful questions instead of assuming every smiling man is truly fine.
If a man around you constantly says, "I am fine," take a moment to genuinely check on him. Sometimes the people who appear strongest are carrying the heaviest burdens.
One honest conversation can save a life. One listening ear can restore hope. Silence has never solved mental health problems. Compassion, understanding, and timely support can.
What are your thoughts? Do you think society is doing enough to support men's mental health?
7 men out of 10 suffer from mental health disorders. It does not mean they are mad but they are obsessed with many things that affect their mental health. Regrettably many mental health sufferers are not aware of their mental health issues until they think of committing suicide.
Causes of mental health issues are : Disappointment in life Failed marriages Economic crises Failures at school or at work Lingering illness Broken courtship Past abuse Low esteem Death of loved ones and many others
When any of these happens, there will be chemical imbalance in the brain leading g to anxiety and depression. This health development can have many physiological and psychological symptoms from the head to toes that are too numerous. If youhave any questions or already face by any of the above descriptions ,please there are remedies available.Yiu can still live your normal life.
Clareview: Is anyone here familiar with how a divorce certificate from a Lagos state high court looks like?
There is no divorce certificate but judgement legally ending the marriage. The judgement will include Degree nissil( That is both parties would wait for three months before they enter another marriage since an appeal may be instituted by either of the parties against the judgement.)
Note : If a couple contracts a statutory marriage, only the High Court can end the marriage not a magistrate court or a customary court .
If it is a traditional marriage, the return of the bride price is enough to end the marriage.. If requested a customary court can issue a document of judgement divorcing both of them. This however is not compulsory in Law.

Revolva: As crowds pour into the United States for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, tons of international tourists are getting a look at an America they don’t usually see on TV or in the news. Fans arriving from places like Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America keep talking about how diverse the country feels, how modern everything is, and how open and friendly people are—none of which really matched the image they had before they landed. A lot of folks admit they expected something else after years of hearing mostly negative headlines.
Everyone’s trip is a little different, of course, but there’s a common theme: plenty of travelers say they’re impressed by the chance, the fast pace, how easy things are, and the energy they feel in American cities. Social media is packed with stories about how actually being here made them rethink what they thought they knew.
Instead of sticking to what they've seen in the media, these visitors let their real-life experiences shape their opinions. For a lot of them, it’s been a reminder that you just can’t sum up an entire country in a headline. Seeing it for yourself almost always offers a fuller, sometimes more hopeful and fun and they see that America is a very great country to live.
Under Nigeria’s Electoral Act and the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) can deregister a political party. The power comes from Section 225A of the Constitution, which was added by the Fourth Alteration, No. 9 Act, 2017.
Legal grounds for deregistration
1. Breach of registration requirements
• Failing to meet the conditions in Section 222 for registration: proper registration of national officers, submission of constitution to INEC, national spread, etc. •Any violation of the requirements an association must satisfy to operate as a political party.
2. Failure to meet minimum electoral performance thresholds
INEC may deregister a party if it fails to win:
• Presidential election: At least 25% of votes cast in one state of the federation •
Governorship election: At least 25% of votes cast in one local government area of a state •
Chairmanship election: At least one ward •
Legislative elections: At least one seat in the National Assembly or State House of Assembly
• Councillorship election: At least one seat
Section 225A lists it this way:
a. breach of any of the requirements for registration;
b. failure to win at least twenty-five percent of votes cast in-
i. one State of the Federation in a Presidential election; or
ii. one Local Government of the State in a Governorship election;
c. failure to win at least-
i. one ward in the Chairmanship election;
3. Failure to participate in elections Lawmakers have also argued that parties that don’t field candidates, lack structures, or only litigate without participating should be deregistered. INEC has said more parties could be deregistered “so long as they fail to meet the requirement of the law”.

[quote author=EmmyMaestro post=139697153]“Pay my salary” – Lady cries out, exposes alleged experience working for popular Nollywood actress
A Nigerian lady has taken to social media to call out Nollywood actress Funmi Awelewa, alleging that she refused to pay her salary after she worked for her as a sales representative.
In a viral video circulating online, she claimed that she accepted the job despite being a graduate due to the country’s economic hardship and limited employment opportunities.
“I’m just here to tell you guys to help me beg Funmi Awelewa to pay my salary. I’m a graduate, but there is no job in the country. I even have a little business I do for myself, but it is not moving, so I accepted to be a sales rep,” she said.
According to her, she was often sent on errands that did not align with her job description, including massaging the actress, shopping, and inspecting properties, while also handling personal tasks for her.
The lady further alleged that she sustained an injury while working at the actress store and later requested part of her salary to seek medical treatment.
“I’ve been working with you for like 16 days now. I’m not telling you to give me money. Give me half of my salary and let me go and treat myself. But she replied that she is not ready to pay me a dime and blocked me,” she alleged.
She also claimed to have reported the matter to the police, adding that the actress allegedly declined an invitation to appear.
As of the time of filing this report, Funmi Awelewa has not publicly responded to the allegations.

don't know why you cannot endure till the end of the month. Your case is like that of a person who breaches agreement.I will advise Funmi to pay you your half salary to truncate your baseless noise. Many ladies nowadays don't want to work but they want to be making money.

How many times do you want to go to the House? Are you the only ones in APC? What about those on ground already? You may decamp to another party and contest there.
NaijaHelper1: Bola Ahmed Tinubu has crossed all political Ts and dotted all strategic "I"s required to win an election. He has consolidated State power through conversion of governors, installation of cronies in key election machinery positions, and elimination of loopholes opposition can take advantage of.
However just like a business SWOT analysis where you can control weaknesses but not Threats, the Iran-US war will prove to be the major decider of the coming elections. The Iran war has resulted in a paradox, the government is cashing in on oil revenue due to the closing of the strait but the people are suffering due to rising inflation creating a huge chasm between the economic position of the government and the realities of the people. That is to say, the people are suffering but the government installed to govern them is enjoying massively. More so, the fact that some superpowers such as the US itself, China and Russia are greatly profiting from the war has reduced the chances of this war coming to an end quickly inorder to restore normalcy. With the way world economy is going, and the fact that Nigeria has nothing to fall back on, the situation will likely escalate to the point where hardship will be so severe that the people will revolt right around the election circle. This will be the final nail in the coffin.
Who will win if he does not win. With the seas of heads that came out today in the North and across Nigeria.,it clear where the pendulum is going to.If Tinubu and Obi line up, the North will prefer Tinubu to Obi. The reason is that you all know the reason!
