EPISODE 21

“ By the way” Annabelle said as she touched the silver neck chain around his neck. “ What’s this?”
“Oh this?” he replied. “A gift from my grandfather. Got it for my birthday”
Annabelle narrowed her eyes as she played with the silver ball and traced her index finger around the “W”. Daniel caught the look on her face and raised his eyebrow.
“Any problem?” he asked.
“Not at all” she smiled at him. “It’s just that it looks so beautiful and so unique”
“I know.” He replied. “ My granddad always had the best taste in shopping. Well……except that time he mistakenly bought me a ladies underwear when I was 11” he blushed in embarrassment at the horrific memory.
Annabelle reared her head back and broke into fits of laughter, gathering a bit of attention to their side. Most of the people smiled and dismissed it as him trying to flirt with her and they went back to their business. Soon her laughter was reduced to giggles and she placed one hand on his shoulder to steady herself.
“He did that?” she stifled another round of laughter. “What in the world was he thinking?”
“Beats me” Daniel shrugged and chuckled. “ It’s one of the most complicated errors I’ve ever seen”
“I could have imagined the look on your face when you saw it” she smiled
“Please don’t remind me” he scoffed, looking away.
The DJ had put in a popular song and excused himself. Everyone lit up and began to dance vigorously to the beat, although the teenagers kept the groping to a minimum due to the presence of adults at the party. Jake and Tomiwa started a dance of their own and Segun asked Sharon to dance with him which she reluctanctly accepted due to the fact that he was not the one on her mind. She would have asked Daniel except for the fact that he was currently …….. ‘Busy’
“Come on” Annabelle cried out joyously as she held Daniel’s hand and dragged him to the dance floor. “This is my favorite song”
“I’ll say” he laughed at her childish excitement. He once again had to marvel at this girl. She was really one of a kind. One moment she would act bold and intimidating, the next moment she would act childish, then before he knew it she would act all seductive(That one gave him the shivers). But all in all, she was like a rare gem. He decided at that moment that he was going to treasure that gem.
“Dan” she piped and he blinked back to reality. “I called your name like thrice, now.”
“Sorry” he smiled as he watched her move her waist in tune to the song. “Was thinking”
“About me?” she teased with a wink.
“You wish” he smiled shyly, a pink blush staining his cheeks.
“Aww” she pouted and poked his nose. “ You don’t have to hide it, you know. Your face tells a different tale.”
He stuck out his tongue at her and she giggled.
“Stick that tongue out again” she smiled wickedly “ And I’ll bite it”
“That was so dirty!!” his eyes widened at her naughty statement.
“I know” she whispered.
He was about to fire a weapon of his one when he noticed a new set of people enter the house. They were about 18 in number and they all wore suits and sunglasses, with serious expressions on their faces. Three of them were women, while the majority were men. Annabelle noticed the direction of his eyes and followed it. She raised an eyebrow as she saw the unfamiliar people begin to split ways and spread around the dancers. Eric who was coversing with his mother by the door of the house noticed the strangers and raised an eyebrow in suspicion. The atmosphere suddenly felt tense and only three people noticed the change.
“Who are those people?” Annabelle wondered aloud, slowing her dancing.
“I don’t know” Daniel frowned. “ Security, maybe?”
“ Why would Sharon’s Parents need these much security?” Annabelle was confused. “ are they anticipating an attack?”
“I don’t get it either” Daniel shrugged.
“By the way” She turned to him. “ I arranged a meeting with an old friend of mine. She stays in Ghana and she is into researching. If what those men said in the hospital that day concerning Luke is true, then she can be of use to us.”
“You heard everything we discussed?” Daniel had a surprised look.
“I’m a vampire? Super hearing? Remember ?” she looked at him with a ‘duh’ expression on her face.
“Oh yeah” he laughed nervously. “Forgot about your powers. Your friend, she’s a vampire too?”
Annabelle nodded. “ The one who taught me to control my bloodlust and channel it to animals. I was a mess after Chris turned me. Physically and emotionally” she added with a laugh. “But I met her and made the silly mistake of trying to attack her but she gave me a beating I could never forget.”
Daniel chuckled.
“After which, she taught me a lot. How to control my emotions, abstain, yada yada yada. I owe her a lot. So don’t worry, She wont harm you. The only thing I need to think about now is how we can get to Ghana. Money is not the issue. She can handle that. The issue is how Jake and Tomiwa can come along because trust me, if they find out you and I are travelling, you know the rest. Then there’s your mom…”
“ She wont be a problem” Daniel smiled. “ As long as I’m not staying for long, she wouldn’t mind and as long as she believes those hunters are on guard. It’s fair to her. I could leave granddad to keep her company and negotiate with Ted to guard the house. Then maybe Simon and Tony could come along. As for Jake and tomiwa, they are witty. They will surely find a way to leave their houses.”
She thought for a moment and then smiled at him. “ I believe they will”
“LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!!” They were startled by a feminine voice coming from the DJ’s table. Feminine? And why did that voice sound so familiar? They glanced towards the table and to their shock, they saw Angela behind the mic!!
“Sh*t!!” Daniel cursed. “ What is she doing here?”
“This is bad” Annabelle frowned and glared towards Angela. Angela looked in their direction and a demonic smile appeared on her face. Jake and Tomiwa had stopped dancing and they stood in shock at the sight of the person who was acting as the DJ. Jake swallowed in fear as he knew trouble was looming somewhere. Tomiwa’s emotions were a mixture of fear and anger. How could she show her face here and just what was she scheming now. Whatever it was they had to be on their guard now.
“Now I know you are surprised to see me as you were expecting your DJ. but he is currently..indisposed” Angela smirked slyly at the last word. “ Now the theme of this party is called “PAYBACK” and with that being said, permit me to say…” She paused and smiled to the strangers in suits and then winked at them “Dinner is served”
All hell broke loose as the strangers removed their shades to reveal glowing red eyes and bared their fangs. Before one could blink, they charged and attacked the nearby dancers. Chaos ensued as people started running helter skelter, amidst screams. A full fight began as Eric ushered his mother into the house and closed the door. He turned to the melee in front of him and brought out his gun. Running towards them, he shot a vampire who charged towards him. The bullet went through his heart and he collapsed on the floor before dissolving to ash. Another one tried sneaking on him but he was the faster and smarter of the two. Reaching into his suit, he pulled out a stake and swiftly turned and threw it into the vampire’s heart.
Meanwhile Sharon was cornered by two female vampires. She stood in fear as they advanced towards her. Snarls were heard from their mouths and hungry expressions were on their faces.
“Someone, help me” she whimpered as tears appeared at the corners of her eyes. Before the vampires could move, they suddenly groaned in pain and gasped as wooden stakes were put through their hearts from behind. They collapsed and dissolved into ash and Sharon opened her eyes wide at the sight of her hero.. or rather heros. Standing where the vampires stood previously, were Daniel and Eric holding stakes. The two males removed their eyes from Sharon and stared at each other. For a moment , none said anything as both were stunned by each other’s newly discovered prowess. A scream interrupted the moment and Eric took off. Daniel turned to Sharon.
“Get into the house” he growled and she was taken aback. She had never that look on his face. She was to scared and confused to argue, so she nodded and ran into the house. Daniel threw his stake towards a vampire who leaped towards her and it went through his skull.
In the chaos that ensued, Jake and Tomiwa had separated from the crowd and stood by the pool watching in horror at the sight before them. A lot of people had been slaughtered and there was blood everywhere. Daniel and Annabelle were holding out on their own and soon, the vampires had reduced to four.
“Long time no see” A low voice came behind them and they turned around to see Angela smiling. Before they could move, her smile disappeared and with a deadly frown on her face, she pushed forward and kicked Jake with a force that sent him into the pool.
“ Jake!” Tomiwa cried out towards the pool but a hand grabbed her at the back of her neck and spun her around to meet the cold eyes of Angela.
“You have bigger problems, sweetie” She snarled.
With incredible strength, she lifted tomiwa and tossed her into a pile of plastic chairs. Tomiwa crashed into them and landed on her shoulders. She cried out painfully and struggled to her feet, clutching her waist.
“Hmm” Angela smiled as she catwalked towards the other girl. “ I could kill you right now but that wouldn’t be Interesting. Why don’t we have a little fun before I put you out of your misery”
Tomiwa cried out and charged towards the smiling Angela. She threw a punch to her face and it connected but , the impact did nothing to Angela’s face. Instead, Tomiwa’s fist suffered the damage as there was a sickening crack of bones. Tomiwa screamed in pain as she held her broken fingers.
“Tsk Tsk Tsk” Angela shook her head and kicked tomiwa on the stomach, the impact sent her flying ad hitting her back on the nearby generator before dropping to the ground in a groaning mess.
Meanwhile Jake had managed to swim out of the pool just in time to see his girlfriend brutalized. He looked around and his eyes caught it: A wooden plank. Having recovered from the hospital, he was given complete details about vampires and he knew what that meant. He picked up the plank and broke it into two , creating a pointed end to both planks. He dropped one and slowly advanced towards the unsuspecting angela who had straddled tomiwa.
“Well. You put up a fight” Angela smiled tracing a finger along Tomiwa’s cheek, making her shiver in fear. “ Even though it was pathetic.” She tore the top of Tomiwa’s shirt to expose her neck. Tomiwa’s eyes went wide as she knew what Angela was going to do next.
“Any last words?” Angela grinned as her eyes turned red and her canines became elongated. Her smile suddenly disappeared and was replaced with a scream of pain as Jake drove the wooden impromptu stake with force into her heart from behind. He held on to the stake as she stopped her screaming
She gasped as she felt the oxygen slowly leave her system. Tomiwa wriggled out from under her and crouched in front of her.
“Yes, there is” She smiled. “If you want to kill someone, do it. Don’t just stand there talking about it ”
She nodded towards Jake and drove the stake further until it came out from her chest. A loud shrilling scream was heard as she collapsed and burnt into ashes.
