An Ikeja High Court on Friday upheld the ban on the wearing of
Hijab (Muslim head scarf) in public primary and secondary schools
in Lagos state.
Justice Modupe Onyeabor dismissed the suit instituted against the
Lagos State Government by two 12-year-old girls under the aegis of
the Muslim Students of Nigeria, Lagos State Area Unit.
The government had banned the use of Hijab on the argument that
it was not part of the approved school uniform for pupils.
Following the ban, the students filed the suit on May 27, 2013,
seeking redress and asked the court to declare the ban as a
violation of their rights to freedom of thought, religion and
education.
In her judgment, Onyeabor held that the prohibition of the wearing
of Hijab over school uniforms within and outside the premises of
public schools was not discriminatory.
According to her, the ban does not violate sections 38 and 42 of the
1999 Constitution as claimed by the plaintiffs.
The judge said Section 10 of the Constitution made Nigeria a secular
state and that government must maintain neutrality at all times.
Onyeabor said the government therefore had a duty to preserve the
secular nature of the institutions concerned as argued by the Lagos
State Solicitor-General, Mr Lawal Pedro (SAN).
She noted that since the public schools were being funded by the
government, it was therefore competent to issue dress codes and
other guidelines to the students.
According to her, the use of uniforms engenders uniformity and
encourages students to pursue their mutual academic aspirations
without recourse to religious or any other affiliations.
The judge, however, observed that the uniformity sought by the
government in the issuance of the dress code would be destroyed,
should the prayers of the plaintiffs be granted.
“The non-Hijab wearing students will feel inferior to those who are
putting on Hijab.
“The values of plurality and the respect for the rights of others who
have subscribed to a non-faith based educational system cannot be
breached.
“In that effect, the issue is resolved in favour of the respondents and
the suit is accordingly dismissed,’’ Onyeabor said.
Reacting to the judgment, the plaintiffs’ counsel, Chief Gani Adetola-
Kazeem, told NAN that his clients would file an appeal against the
judgment.
“Well the court has spoken but there are still very many issues to be
considered which invariably means that we will appeal the
judgment.
“We are simply not satisfied with the court decision.
“The angle through which the court has looked at the issue is quite
at variance with the provisions of the constitution. We will definitely
appeal,” he said. (NAN)

The laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria vests all minerals in the hands of the Federal government. The Federal government is meant to issue mining licences, regulate the operations of these miners and proceeds from the mining activities remitted to the Federation account in form of taxes. While this is implemented in the oil industry, the government turns a blind eye to solid minerals which are bountiful in the Northern part of the country so that the Northerners mine their solid minerals, sell them and pocket the proceeds 100% without making the statutory remittance to the Federal purse. This they do in full glare of the public with little or no action by our security agencies.

This means that the Northerners are already controlling their resources. If that be the case, why should the Niger deltans not agitate for resource control?

What is good for the goose is good for the gander.

Last time I checked, a Nigerdeltan is the president of the country and has all the powers and security apparatus under him to stop the illegal mining. If he wants to develop the mining fields and send the money to the federation account, nobody will or can stop him. The military has denied reports that a Colonel, and 10 other officers
of the Nigerian Army set ablaze Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC)
in order to pave way for Boko Haram to advance in Adamawa State.
The report by one of the dailies (not THISDAY) had it that the Army
Colonel, some junior officers and soldiers who were taking part in
the military offensive to reclaim communities taken over by the
Boko Haram terrorists in Adamawa State, had been arrested for the
alleged sabotage.
However, the Director of Army Public Relations (DAPR), Brig-Gen.
Olajide Laleye, while responding to THISDAY inquiries on the matter
yesterday, described the report as untrue.
According to Laleye, APC is a special weapon of dual purpose that
could not just be easily be put on fire by any officer or personnel.
He also clarified that the Army only made tactical withdrawal in
accordance with the outcomes of the battle, explaining that it is
derogatory to insinuate that the soldiers “ran away”.
“It is not true”, he insisted, adding, “it is not true in the sense that no
APC was set on fire”.
He said: “No APC was set on fire, at all. There was nothing like that.
So the report is not true. How can you say the military ran away
(from battle) when such did not happen? There was nothing like
setting on fire of the APC, because APC is a weapon on its own.
Apart from the fact APC is used to convey troops to the theatre of
operations, on its own it is a weapon. So no APC was set on fire”.
“Let us put it this way, to use the word ‘run away’ is unfair to the
military. It can even be that the military in one of its operation made
a tactical withdrawal. Yes it is tactical because withdrawal is a
tactical maneuver that troops embark on to confirm to the higher
commander’s directive or to confirm to the movement of the battle
as it rages”, he noted.
Yesterday, some media report had it that a top military sources said
the colonel (a Muslim) who was Commanding a team of three APCs,
with the capability to fire up to a range of 1.5kilometres or even
more, had instead of pursuing the terrorists, deliberately set the
APCs on fire between Gulak and Madagali, before running away with
his team of soldiers into the bush.
The report noted that the Army authorities were outraged over the
development and ordered the arrest of both the commander, the
junior officers as well as the soldiers under his command.

Maybe you didn't read the full story, the guy help her to build the blog, she made success and forgot him by ignoring his messages claiming not to see them. The guy has a blog of his own and some boys working under him, he knows a lot about Internet and has lots of connections. He used his boys and his connections to bring her blog down just to get her attention. When he finally did get her attention, he apologise and restored the blog and their friendship is back to normal. Igbo tribe , no doubt are predominately christians by religion and
they chose their leaders as well mostly from the christian faith.
But their exist a community in Igbo land were the traditional ruler is
a devoted muslim. That community is the ancient Umuofor kingdom
in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo state.
His Royal Highness, Abdul Fatai Chima Emetumah Duru the 3rd and
Ofor the 9th of Umuofor autonomous community is the royal father
chosen by his community to be their custodian of culture and
tradition.
Umuofor is a big community blessed with good people that believe
in oneness, agriculture is the main occupation of the people which
they often export some of their farm produce to other parts of the
state and beyond. Cassava and palm oil are the main export
materials.
How Umuofor embraced Islam
In 1970, when Eze Abdul Gafar Ihunanze Duru Emetumah, 2nd,
father of the incumbent traditional ruler of Umuofor was converted
to Islam, his people who believed in his kindness and generosity
followed him. Although he was yet to preside over Umuofor as their
king, but in 1977 he eventually became their ruler then under Awa
autonomous community comprising of Akabo, Awa and
Ejemekwuru.
By the time Eze Abdul Gafar was converted to Islam, his son, the
incumbent monarch was just eleven years of age and automatically
joined his father with the religion.
Umuofor under the reign of Eze Abdul fatai Chima Emetumah
After inheriting his father’s stool after his death, he continued with
the religion as he grew from faith to faith and eventually turban by
the late Emir of Kano, Adobayero in November, 1992.
Islam according to the royal father goes beyond the religion of the
northerners in the country, he described Islam as a universal
religion, personal to the believer which preaches peace and oneness
to all.
Umuofor join the world in celebrating Edil Kabir
The celebration of this years’ Edil Kabir was unique in Umuofor
kingdom as all the muslim faithful prayed with their royal father at
the mosque in the community and subsequently in a procession to
the palace of Emetumah the 3rd.
The royal father who also doubled as the chief Imam preached love
and unity to his people who gathered at his palace . After listening
to their king, they wine and dine with him and left with a gift each by
the monarch.
Relationship between christian and Islam worshipers in Umuofor
In spite of the traditional ruler being a muslim, their exists a cordial
relationship between christians and muslims in the community .
They both derives joy in participating in the festivals of their
religions. As a matter of fact the king leads by example as he attend
ceremonies he is invited by the three main churches in the
community, even sometimes he finds time to worship with the
church just opposite his palace. Oguta, the local government area of
Umuofor have three central mosque.
What residents say about Islam in the community
An indigene of the community, Abdul Wahab Nwabuihe who said he
joined Islam in 1971 and have trained all his ten children including
his 13 grand children in the doctrine said they have no qualms with
christians in the community. According to him they don’t believe in
division as they inter marry and coexists as one.
Another son of the soil, Obed Orumezie who is a christian
corroborated the remarks of his muslim brothers and sisters. To
him, he does not see anything strange in cooperating with the
muslims in the country.
Eze Emetumah’s take on insurgency in the nation
He believes those hiding under the cloak of Islam to perpetrate evil
in the country are not of Islam. The Insurgency , he believes is the
handiwork of some selfish politicians in the country, he advised
politicians to see politics as a sport were a looser embraces the
victor.
Challenges in Umuofor
One of the major challenges of the community according to the
royal father is the absence of a health centre. The only functioning
health centre in the community is the one he donated his building
for the care of those who need the services. He appealed to the
state government to assist them in building a befitting health centre
in the community.

What you are about to read is quite long…and chilling! I wasn’t
going to share this info in public but after I showed it to some
family members and a few friends who came to the house this
morning, everyone agreed that I need to share this, that you all need
to read this. You see, what happened with my blog wasn’t about
beef. It wasn’t because I showed off my new SUV. It wasn’t about
plagiarism, or copyright infringement. It was something deeper, very
personal and maybe even more dangerous. Some would call it
obsession. Please continue...
To understand this I am going to start from the beginning but
before that I want to talk about plagiarism. My understanding of
plagiarism is when you take someone’s work and republish it
verbatim as your own work. I don’t do that. But if I have ever done
that in the past then I apologize. It was an oversight. I do get a lot
of original content, way more than any other blogger in this country.
Some of the biggest news stories in this country in recent times was
broken by LIB. From Goldie’s death (God rest her soul) Aluu4, ABSU
rape, P-Square saga, Solomon Akiyesi and plenty more. And when I
take news from other sources, I always credit them. When I don’t
give credit is when the news is everywhere so I write it in my own
words and make it mine. I don’t believe that is a crime. I admit that I
have used photos without giving credit. I apologize. That will never
happen again. You learn every day. And I have learnt from this.
Now about Mr Aye Dee. Let me start from the very beginning so you
guys understand what really happened. Like I said earlier, this was
not about copyright or plagiarism. It was personal. Very personal. In
2009 or 2010…(not sure) a guy named Alex who used to run
1976AD blog contacted me. He said he was impressed with my
work and wanted to encourage me to never relent. Alex Info
1976AD (how I knew him back then) and I became very good
friends online. In fact he was my confidant. Every time I had
questions or challenges, I would reach out to him.
By 2011, Alex 1976AD and I became quite close…online. We even
exchanged numbers and spoke a few times. He always reminded me
how proud of me he was. He told me I would one day become a
phenomenon. I wasn’t number one at the time but he told me that I
would one day be the biggest news site in Nigeria…that he believed
in me that much. He was my friend, my supporter; he sent me news
to post on my blog. He wanted me to succeed. He told me things to
do to get more readers. He knew a lot about the internet and how it
works so I always went to him for advice. He was my anchor.
In 2011, Alex 1976AD made me his blog’s Person of the Year 2011. I
shared that post excitedly on my blog. He said I was the most
deserving Nigerian for the award that year…and he wrote the most
beautiful article about me. He was so proud of me…and never
hesitated to tell me. I was grateful. I was happy to have him as a
friend...even though we'd never met.
Then we stopped talking. I sincerely can’t remember when exactly. I
know that Alex 1976AD tried to reach out to me mid last year…but I
can’t remember if I responded. If I didn’t, it was an oversight. I’m
really bad at replying mails because I get so many and I’m always
busy blogging…but anyway.
On Wednesday around 2.07pm…my long lost friend Alex Info
1976AD contacted me via gmail chat. I was so happy when I saw
his name pop up. I was like yay…Alex 1976AD! He would know what
I should do in this situation. I thought he was reaching to me after
all this while because he’d seen all the craziness going on and
wanted to lend support…but what he said to me next shocked me to
my bone marrow. He said ‘I hope u’re sitting down’. Thankfully I
was because I would have literally fallen if I hadn’t been sitting.
You see, my good friend and biggest supporter Alex 1976AD told me
he was Mr Aye Dee. The same guy who started this. The guy that
got Google to shut down my blog. It wasn’t about plagiarism or
copyright infringement…it was about a scorned former friend. It was
about love turning to hate because he felt I’d abandoned him after I
