A40: I think they need to change their style somewhat. And it starts with D'Antoni and James Harden. This roster is not that far away. They approached the Warriors series wrong and were defeatist with their excuses after Game 1. It would be a miracle if they found any takers for CP3's deal.
I actually think Capela's contract is one of the better contracts pound for pound. I wouldn't go out of my way to move him. The CP3 contract is the real issue Agreed. D’Antoni’s system can’t win the league since he only cares about one side of the ball. Recent report of problems between Harden and CP will not help them. CP3 is tradeable and they can find the right pieces (not necessarily max players) to contend with the Lakers for the NBA final. One thing I know for sure is that the current roster with D’Antoni in charge will not win the chip. |
Sports / Re: The NBA Begins by ElDeeVee(m): 4:16am On Jun 18, 2019 |
SmooshCHN: Birdman has left his tent. He's celebrating with the Raptors since the Rockets have nothing to celebrate. The CP3's contract is a problem. I don't know of any lasting solution that'll help them. Rockets roster as is, is not capable of winning the championship and their owner knows this. I think they can find a suitable trade for a player like Capela or even CP3 and try to reconstruct the roster to challenge the Lakers for the NBA finals. |

OluDare01: I don't know why people are complaining about Toyota cars here. Maybe you bought a very old car or it had a major defect. Mind you, Nigerians or dealers change the mileage of cars in Nigeria. Your best bet is if you have someone abroad that can help you get good cars. The problem with this though is the hassles that come with shipping it to Nigeria. 1 Like |

reDazey: My Second Experience I will start by congratulating everyone who has an admission. It is truly an arduous journey. More congratulations to those with funding and all the best to those still awaiting funding. I must add that it is not over till you hear from all your schools. Last year, I can recall a close friend who got an admit with full funding in May. Hope still dey!
I want to encourage someone here today with my story. Never give up on yourself and your dreams. When you plan to retry, find out the actions that failed you and learn to change your strategy for success. Finally, keep trying if you believe so much in a vision till you achieve it.
This is the period where most of us sit and wait with bated breath, hoping and praying that our admission with some sort of financial funding drops into our mailbox. I pray everyone gets their heart desires.
Last year, I was in a similar position. I felt dejected, some of us can relate to this emotion. Lots of admissions with no funding. I applied to combinations of (MSc and Ph.D.) in Statistics/Maths. Got some rejections and some acceptances( without funding). It was a terrible blow because I felt I had a good profile. (GPA 3.6/4(WES), GRE 318, TOEFL 109). However, I learned some important lessons. It is not always about one aspect of your profile. LORs and SOPs are very important.
Having been out of school for a while and working in an IT-intensive organization; I overlooked my IT skills which were going to be advantageous. I got some advice from several persons, I selected the ones I felt will work for me and dropped the rest. So for Fall 2018, I restrategized, applied to CS programs. Also, I realized I did not take some risk on my former school list (Sirriddy and Scholastica16 encouraged me to aim higher).
So this year, I reapplied to 5 Ph.D. programs 1. The University of Massachusetts, Amherst (pending) 2. The University of Utah (rejected) 3. Kansas State University(accepted with full funding) 4. The University of Alabama (accepted, no funding. I did not bother to ask for any.) 5. College of William and Mary(accepted with full funding, being considered for fellowship) Also, to "avoid stories that touch", I applied to Georgia Southern (MSc Mathematics and I was accepted with a funded GTA position)
I thank God for the courage to try one more time and I pray that everyone finds a reason to believe in themselves and keep pushing. Special thanks to the extraordinary persons that supported me throughout this journey; Sirrid.dy(you are just too much), divab.iola, jaybiz.007, Scholast.ica16, MsN.as, dram.aka). Thank you guys for being more than friends.
Impressive! I'm happy you got the desired outcomes this year. Just go to WM; Virginia is a cool state. 1 Like |

Scholastica16:
In Nigeria or over there?
One could get lucky with the nature of their questions (if the first 2 Qs in my first GRE counted as my graded tests I am sure I would have clocked that score above). However, some are just incredibly skilled at Mathematics such that no matter the level of difficulty, they would get the answers in record time. I sometimes watch the Cowbellpedia and I see these Junior Secondary School students pulverize word problems in seconds. With that type of background, many of them will get near perfect GRE quant scores - I have no doubts.
The senior secondary category is even slightly above the nature of GRE questions (devoid of the traps ofcourse). I get tempted to write down their names to Google it few years forward in a bid to see what they would have done with such skillery in mathematics. I might still do it.
There is one silent viewer on this thread who got a cool 170 in his Quants in August. The guy is such a genius that he is going to retake the tests just so he could up his verbal reasoning scores. This particular guy will easily replicate > 165 again in his Quants. He is that good. @ the bolded, 169Q in Naija and another chic with 170Q here. I'm thinking of writing the test again sef just for the purpose of getting a gangster score lol. |

davide470: .. So..I work in one of the Investment banks in Nigeria, and most of my work hours is spent trying to convince Mr. A on an investment or pitch a new deal from Mr. B to Mr. C, trying to maximize returns on Mr. D investments, execute transactions (Stocks, Bonds, OTC), speaking with PFAs/Institutions (Local & Foreign) to see if they wanna deal and watching the numbers in the market go up and down.
Work Yesterday
Negotiated a deal with another investment firm, one of my clients was selling a sizeable quantity of a stock and the market was not enough, so we agreed on a price and it went flawlessly. Also, discussed with the MD of a bank in Ghana, he asked that his portfolio be reconstructed as he wanna go short on some positions (First thing Monday morning).
Visited the CEO of a Logistics firm, we discussed, reviewed and i await further instructions.
Spoke with a few clients on how they can take up their Union Bank rights issue (I wonder why people would do this though but they have their reasons for taking it up)
Watched the market, made a few calls, and saw the last minute trades (Price-Changing Trades, we call them)
Did weekly reports for my subsidiary, disturbed those pretty ladies in Research and viola, TGIF!...
Good stuff! Btw, na Research Dammy dey |
