Throw Back Video of Tinubu speaking at Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholers.

The Role of the Opposition in Meeting Nigeria’s Challenges

OVERVIEW
Nigeria’s Continental and International Importance

“Nigeria is important to Africa and to the world.” Steve McDonald, the Director of the Africa Program and the Project on Leadership and Building State Capacity, remarked that despite the country’s integral economic and political significance in continental and international arenas, there is still destabilizing internal discord between Nigerians and their government. “There is an unfortunate residence of inequality in Nigeria,” stated McDonald, and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Executive Governor of Lagos State and current National Leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), and his party demonstrate how the presence of a viable opposition can balance the governing power.

Tinubu’s Leadership of the ACN

“Nigeria is its people and they are some of the most entrepreneurial, ingenious, hardworking people that I have ever met. I am a big believer in Nigeria, even in the worst of times.” Howard F. Jeter , former U.S. Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, used his introduction of Tinubu as an opportunity to stress how, during his ambassadorship, he realized that “Nigeria is the essential country in Africa and what happens in Nigeria will impact the entire continent.” According to Jeter, Tinubu’s leadership of the ACN, the principal opposition, has resulted in a remarkable change in the party administration’s performance and efficacy because of his direction and mobilization of the population. The ACN has emerged as a major force in Nigerian politics due to its devotion to serving the people, accountability and coherence of discourse and structure. Jeter commended Tinubu for not only being a man who is dedicated to the wellbeing of his country, but one who could lead it through its current challenges and to future successes.

How Can the Opposition Help?

“I have devoted most of my adult life to promoting democracy in Nigeria. The battle has been neither short, nor easy.” Tinubu reassured the audience that he was not a member of that “class of politicians who has benefited from the struggle [for democracy] without participating in it.” On the contrary, his “life has been defined by the achievements and setbacks recorded in this struggle” and “[he] understand[s] with every sinew and fiber of [his] being how far [Nigerians] have come and how far [they] have yet to go.”

Consequently, Tinubu’s political experience has afforded him valuable insight into the socioeconomic challenges that his country currently faces. His position as the leader of the key opposition party has shown him how Nigeria is still in political limbo where the government’s authoritarian and democratic tendencies are in constant contradiction. As a result, Tinubu believes the current regime is unable to effectively handle the internal security, ethnic, and governance issues that have come to characterize the nation. If elected, the ACN, under Tinubu’s leadership, would be able to confront these impediments to stability by not only decentralizing power from the national executive, but by promoting civic engagement with the constituency at local and national levels to assure that these systemic reforms would, in fact, benefit the people of Nigeria directly.

He further argued that “[t]he overriding concern of the (ruling party) People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) political community is to retain power, not to advance the public welfare,” and, as a result, this party has broken the social contract between the government and the governed. Conversely, Tinubu believes that his party represents a sustainable, progressive alternative as it seeks to help Nigerians surmount the systemic obstacles to securing their economic and social wellbeing. Tinubu maintained that his party, unlike that of the incumbent, is invested in advancing the status of the Nigerian citizen beyond the margins and is willing to forgo the benefits associated with authoritarian rule to ensure that the people are provided for in every sphere.

The Future for Opposition Politics in Nigeria

If there were an election held in Nigeria today, President Goodluck Jonathan would not be reelected, Tinubu asserted, because he has proven to be a “disappointing” public servant. That Nigeria’s socioeconomic and political situations do not continue to degenerate, new and inventive approaches need to be taken on the part of the governing body. However, the PDP and President Jonathan are opposed to anything that might undermine their administration’s absolute control, Tinubu postulated, and this atmosphere is not conducive to democratic governance. Although there is much work to be done in terms of reforming Nigeria’s political, social, and economic infrastructures, Tinubu believes that the presence of a worthy opposition party is the first step toward progress, as this will help “to ensure the sanctity of the ballot box, foster respect for the rule of law and to build [enduring] democratic and economic institutions,” all of which are essential for a country of so much continental and international importance.

The guy have decimated you and you are now calm grin grin grin grin

Decimated me how?

Maybe to a gullible like you that think upside down, everything he said was fallacy

Sokoto might have 1000 students for example and maybe 800 passed with 5 credits.

Then they will compare that to Lagos who have 19000 students that 18000 passed and they will be saying Sokoto is better than Lagos students

Sokoto would be celebrating percentage because it is better than that of Lagos, tell me is that not delusions and Propaganda?

I don't have time to waste on delusional people like that, keep living in lala land and keep thinking upside down

IfnobeGod20:

Firstly, you think everyone that comment against the lie peddle about certain issue is Igbo. Please erase that one from your mind.
Let me also quickly correct this. The highest form of education constitutionally is secondary education and not tertiary education. Stop deceiving people.
Meanwhile, this is ordinary statistics, I know it is a difficult thing to understand and that is why you're embarrassing yourself up and down. That 10 people passed a certain exam in south west and 6 passed in south east, that doesn't make south west better than south east, because the percentage of pass will be calculated based on the number that sat for the exam.
So the number you're peddling about cannot help any state government to make informed decisions to plan for her education policy, because he may think with the number of pass alone without the overall percentage passed, the state is doing well but the reverse is the case.
Until you understand simple arithmetic and statistics before you know you're just showcasing ignorance here to deceive people.
Let me even help you with simple arithmetic to clear your ignorance of statistics.
If for example 30 people sat for NECO exam in south west and 18 passed. The percentage pass mark would be:
18/30 * 100 = 6*10= 60%
If for example 20 people sat for the same NECO exam in south east and 14 passed. The percentage pass mark would be:
14/20 * 100 = 7*10 = 70%

Yes, many students passed in south west but what was the percentage pass mark in relation to the number that sat for the exam?
I hope you now understand simple statistics.

The 2021 statistics shows that south west recorded the second worst results after north west. I have posted the link and I am reposting it here again.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/businessday.ng/amp/news/article/south-south-south-east-outshine-north-west-south-west-in-waec-performance/
Your argument that south west has more number that passed is untenable in policy making and stop embarrassing yourself on that.
I am from south west and I know that during our time, no region outperform us in education and agriculture but why the reverse nowadays?
Let us start telling ourselves the truth, the standard of education in south west has gone down and need to be revamped, before we become like northern region.
Besides, the news is about secondary school education, you're the one that brought in tertiary education standard. This is how you guys like derailing thread, instead to focus on the topic at hand. Learn to stay within the bracket of the topic.

Sokoto might have 1000 students for example and maybe 800 passed with 5 credits.

Then they will compare that to Lagos who have 19000 students that 18000 passed and they will be saying Sokoto is better than Lagos students

You can post whatever trash you like but the significance of South west having highest numbers of students that sat and passed WAEC means South west will always have the highest numbers of graduates in the future getting corperate jobs, dominating so many professions etc.

You can keep celebrating percentage and continue living in delusions and please stop saying you are from South West, you are not from the west.

You have lesser numbers of students that sat for the Exam and lesser numbers of students that passed, but according to your skewed logics you are the better one lol.

Secondary school is the highest according to your delusional mind, Google know better. I wonder why all the top companies in Nigeria are not employing secondary school graduates? because according to you "professor" secondary school is the best and highest lol. You are really delusional

Mr. Man, see the way you're embarrassing yourself. Did you read what was written underneath at all? It was boldly written not official from JAMB.
One need to question your education.
You even claimed, Yoruba has long past the level of measuring education with mushroom secondary schools awards. No wonder a well known citadel of wisdom region had become its former self, now trailing north west in education.
You forgot that the basic is far important that the tertiary. The way you groom the children, the way you meet them at the top.
This may be the same mentality that our state governors in south west are nursing that they have neglected our once cherished education.

It is the official result you can Google it to confirm, you are the delusional one here

You think South west dominating the best tertiary institutions in Nigeria is a fluke? if South west isn't good in Secondary and primary level it is not possible.

The National Bureau of Statistics release the WAEC result statistics few days ago for 2021 data and that was where StatiSense also did the data analysis for the WAEC result Statistics they released few days ago.

However, StatiSense do not give all the true picture of the statistics as intended.

From the Data released from NBS, the SouthWest has the highest number of students that sat for WAEC and also the highest number of students that have 5 credits and above including English & Maths. This is followed by the South South Zone

Below are the charts derived from the NBS official data and below is the link to the data.

They are talking of secondary education, you're talking of tertiary education. Is your IQ so low that you cannot decipher.

Why lying effortlessly here. The 2021 statistics shows that south east came best in the WAEC results released while south west came second worse, below is the link to it and extract from the link.
Across Nigeria in 2021, a total of 838,486 public secondary schools’ students sat for WASSCE out of which 618,858 students made five credits including English and Mathematics. That amounted to a national pass rate of 74 percent which implies that 74 students out of every 100 that sat for the examination from public secondary schools across Nigeria in 2021 made five credits including English Language and Mathematics.

In 2019, available data showed that 879,341 students of public secondary schools sat for the same examination out of which 447,809 students made five credits including English and Mathematics, representing a national pass rate of 51 percent. This showed that 51 out of every 100 students made five credits including English and Mathematics.

However, in the north west, 61 out of every 100 students that sat for WASSCE made five credits including English Language and Mathematics in 2021. Although it was an improvement over the performance of public secondary schools in that region when 40 out of every 100 students in 2019 made five credits including English Language and Mathematics, it is the worst performance when compared with other geopolitical zones in Nigeria in 2021.

South West recorded the second worst result after north west in 2021. Our analysis showed that 63 out of every 100 students in the region made five credits including English Language and Mathematics in 2021. In 2019, it was 52 out of every 100 students that passed with five credits including English and Mathematics.

South East emerged as the best zone as 90 out of 100 students in that region made five credits including English and Mathematics in 2021. In 2019, it was 71 out of 100. South-South came second with 88 percent pass rate which means 88 students out of every 100 made five credits in 2021 including English and Mathematics. It was 66 out of 100 in 2019.

The north central recorded 76 percent pass rate in 2021, meaning 76 out of every 100 students made five credits in WASSCE as against 47 out of 100 in 2019.
https://www.google.com/amp/s/businessday.ng/amp/news/article/south-south-south-east-outshine-north-west-south-west-in-waec-performance/

The 2022, WAEC has deny having statistics on state by state basis. Below is the link to that:

You are the one with the lowest IQ, everyone know tertiary education is the highest form of Education not secondary school so how should we rate secondary education performance higher than that of Tertiary education? Well I can't blame you, IPOB have the tendency of their brain working upside down.

I'm basing my judgment on recent Jamb top 10 results and recent Waec NBS statistics, even in the past statistics you guys are celebrating the number of students that sat and passed Waec in South west states were always more than in the East, all you guys does is celebrate Percentage forgetting the population factors that South west students population that sat for Waec were more than the East which means the percentage will always favour you, but it doesn't really show the true reality.

If 1000 students sat for Waec in Anambra and 900 passed and 2000 students sat for Waec in Lagos and 1500 passed, the percentage of students that passed will always favour Anambra but in reality the total numbers of students that sat for Waec in Lagos and the total numbers of students that passed were more than that of Anambra. That's exactly what is happening, all you guys does is celebrate percentage but the numbers of students that sat for Waec and passed Waec in the west are always more than the East.

Top 10 best Universities in Nigeria is dominated by Universities in South west

South west states dominated the list of states with the most students that sat and Passed WAEC

Recent top 10 best JAMB results Yoruba dominated the list with 6 Yoruba on the list, but in your delusional mind Yoruba are lagging behind you lol.

Yoruba have long past the level of measuring Education with mushrooms secondary schools awards, It is for you guys to at least feel you are not that behind.

There was a time when the Yorubas are more educated. They envied the wealth of over ambitious igbos because we shun education, trade and as well push drugs tongue tongue

Now, the Yorubas are full time skull miners, while the igbos are doing better than them in education.

Doing better in Education because of winning
Inter school debate of secondary schools?

Do you see the list of graduates of an England university posted online recently? It was dominated by YORUBA even the councilor of the school is Yoruba

Keep deceiving yourself, Yoruba have pass the level of measuring education level with mushrooms awards. Top 10 universities in Nigeria most of them are in South west, that's what it mean to dominate education.

Even in the recent Jamb top 10 best results were dominated by Yoruba's results, even in WEAC south west dominated the list of the states with the most students that sat for Waec and passed Waec according to NBS statistics, that's what it means to dominate Education not through winning mushroom awards that no one even know exist.

Who else remember when Igbo people used to say Northerners would use EFCC to deal with Tinubu if he dare contest for the position of APC presidential Candidate? They said all his cases would be remembered.

I wonder why Northern politicians did not deal with Tinubu during the contest for APC presidential candidate even despite the fact that some northern politicians opposed his ambition even Buhari.

Many people still believe Northerners are playing Tinubu and will embarrass him at the poll, for me I believe if northern politicians really want to play Tinubu or deal with him they wouldn't let him become APC presidential candidate.

Many people really underestimate the power and influence of Tinubu, even Obasanjo couldn't do anything to him during his tenure as president even Buhari can't do anything to him. I don't really like Tinubu but we need strong man like that in the south. He told Buhari boldly that he made him president and need his support in return, how many southern Politicians have that ball and power?

If it was Tinubu in place of Peter Obi in PDP I believe Atiku wouldn't have had it that easy to became PDP presidential candidate. Atiku did what he did because he did not rate any southern politician in PDP even till now Atiku hardly rate any southern politician except probably Tinubu if else he wouldn't be so stubborn to resolve the matters with Wike.

Remove the Igbo entrepreneurs in Lagos and SW would be worse than NE.

There is a reason Igbo entrepreneurs can't succeed in the East.

Yoruba are rich enough to patronize all Igbo businessess in the west, if you are not getting any patronage from rich Yoruba or Yoruba are too poor to patronize your business. No Igbo business would survive in the west, be grateful to Yoruba people for giving you guys chance to survive and not starve in the barren East.

I know you people will gloat about this statistics because it favour you. Southwest have the least poverty rate in Nigeria before this data was released.

When you choose sentiment and bias over truth,
When you choose mediocrity over meritocracy,
this is what you get.

If you consider the population of Igbo living in other states in Nigeria, Igbo are the poorest tribe in the South.

All those Igbo that hustle with wheel barrow, hawk Fan milk and meat pie in the west if you add them to the number of poor people in the East you will get the accurate number.

This is the poverty situation of the country. South East has the lowest property rate in Nigeria. What does that tell you?
Of course we are the richest. Research a little before making silly conclusions.

You are the Richest in your delusional mind

If all the Igbo living outside the East return to South East you are the poorest.

Too much desperation

Believe a Politician at your own peril.

The people he governed for 8 years today in Anambra are Unknown gunmen and ESN.

Anambra have the most billionaires in Nigeria according to IPOB but Peter Obi couldn't even develop a revenue generating schemes for Anambra to have enough IGR.

Onitsha is the biggest market in west Africa according to IPOB but it is another wasted Potential in the hand of Obi.

If Tinubu had be the one to governed Anambra instead of Obi the policy he implemented in Lagos is enough to make Anambra compete with Ogun state or Rivers state in all ramifications.

Politics / Re: When Would Wike Host Tinubu To Commision A Project? by Elemosho478: 6:57am On Nov 22, 2022
You guys don't really know Tinubu, he won't go even if Wike Invited him. What do you think Sanwo Olu was doing in rivers state last time? Sanwo Olu Went to Rivers on Behalf of Tinubu. Wike is querrelling with Atiku and want to spite him but Tinubu is not a Politician Wike can manipulate or use as a bargaining chip.

You think Tinubu is like Peter Obi that bargained away the ambition of Labour Party members in Rivers just for Wike's support? Tinubu know the game Wike is playing with Atiku and Tinubu is not someone Wike can easily manipulate politically.

Depression written all over his face from the picture above.... He died a coward.

Depression is real, but no matter how depressed you're, please and please, don't pick suicide as an option.

Try and stay happy no matter the situation, E nor easy, but try and stay happy.

You think it is just as easy as that to overcome depression?

Pray you don't experience the same.

This man may beat Obi in South west, Forget about online noise. Same way Accord Party beat Labour Party without any online noise in Osun guber election even despite the fact Obi attended LP mega rally in Osun.
