PoliticsRe: Why I Dumped Jonathan For IBB, By Dokpesi (Zoning) by ELEOVIE(m): 9:03am On Sep 14, 2010
gadogado:
When Nigerias democracy is mature enough, we can discard ethnicity and religion and vote for competence. Bit for right now, care has to be taken to preserve the delicate balance of power in the country.
This is like guiding a child through the path of failure all through his formative and teenage years and when he is mature, demand success from him. sad
Ever heard of the adage " a fool at 40 is a fool forever" ? huh
You see, the above quoted ideology is everything Nigerians should run away from. This is the PLAGUE of Nigeria.

Upholding ethnicity and religion as the yard stick for electing persons into political offices certainly makes us mature - in tribalism and religious hate and bias. wink
Fighting for competence today against all odds will certainly make us mature in competence and good governance and will form a more solid foundation for the country NIGERIA if we must remain as one country.

IBB is the best thing that describes corruption in any dictionary and the only thing Nigerians should remove from our political equation for us to have positive results.

As for Dokpesi, he is a smart man. He is basically there 4 d money.

PoliticsWyclef Jean Is Running For President Of Haiti by ELEOVIE(op): 7:12am On Aug 06, 2010
CNN) -- Hip-hop artist Wyclef Jean told CNN's "Larry King Live" on Thursday he is running for president of Haiti.

Jean was one of the first, and most visible, celebrities to offer aid after a devastating earthquake hit Haiti in January. He has also been an outspoken proponent of the nation through his Yele Haiti Foundation, which has come under some scrutiny for how it spends its money.

"Yes, it's my first time announcing it live -- that today I went in, and I signed, and I am running to be the president of Haiti," said Jean, in his first television interview about his decision to run.

Whoever is elected in November, the new president will face the monumental task of rebuilding the country that was ravaged by a January 12 earthquake that killed more than 220,000 people, destroyed 60 percent of government infrastructure and left more than 180,000 homes uninhabitable.

Whoever steps in will also oversee the billions of dollars in international aid that has been promised to the country since the quake.

"Now that our country has toppled, it's a chance to rebuild from the bottom on up," said Jean, adding he will be the voice of Haiti's youth.

Jean shot to fame in the mid-1990s as a member of the Fugees, a U.S.-based hip-hop and reggae group. He performs now as a solo artist.

Jean was born in Haiti, and moved to the United States as a young boy. He recently resigned as chairman of the Yele Haiti Foundation.

Jean, dressed in a gray suit and a red-, black- and white-striped tie, stressed the need for Haiti to improve education, as well as its agriculture, security, and health care. He also said job creation would be a central part of his campaign going forward.

Jean was in Haiti to submit the paperwork necessary for his run.

While little is known about his political agenda, lyrics from his song "President" may provide a sneak peek. In the song, Jean fantasized about what it would be like to lead a country.

"Instead of spending billions on the war. I can use that money, to feed the poor," he sung.

SportsSports’ World Cup Rankings by ELEOVIE(op): 8:54am On Jun 18, 2010
Things can change quickly at a World Cup and a spectacular start is no guarantee of continued success. Germany’s magnificent opening victory over Australia would seem to be a portent of big things to come, while pre-event favorite Spain’s shocking defeat to Switzerland put a severe dent in its title aspirations.

However, there is still a long, long way to go in this tournament, with almost four weeks remaining before a champion is crowned.

Even so, the first-game performance of each of the 32 teams has provided plenty of fodder for discussion and speculation, and it gives us the chance to compile our first rankings since the World Cup began.

It is no surprise that Argentina and Germany come out on top at this early juncture, while the disappointing home nation languishes near the foot of the list.

These rankings were made after the first full week of the tournament – at the end of play on Thursday night.

Yahoo! Sports’ World Cup rankings

1. Argentina – Burst into life under Diego Maradona with Lionel Messi and Gonzalo Higuain in full flow.

2. Germany – Looked fluid, confident and as efficient as ever in its swashbuckling opening victory over the Aussies.

3. Brazil – Wonderfully skilled, but Brazil could benefit from a more direct approach from now on.

4. Netherlands – Not at its best against Denmark but got the job done comfortably.

5. Ivory Coast – Tough and resilient, the Elephants have a real chance of surviving the Group of Death.

6. England – The Three Lions are hoping for Wayne Rooney to break through after a frustrating night against USA.

7. Switzerland – The Swiss produced a monumental shock by out-dueling the talented Spaniards.

8. Spain – Embarrassed by the Swiss but still capable of going deep in the tournament.

9. Italy – The 2006 champion showed its toughness by fighting back to snatch a draw against Paraguay.

10. Mexico – Came to life against France and sits on the verge of the last 16.

11. Portugal – Cristiano Ronaldo looks sharp but needs better service from the midfield.

12. Uruguay – Diego Forlan hit form in game two and the defense is extremely sturdy.

13. Chile – Plenty of attacking firepower and looking good to qualify from Group H.

14. Paraguay – Should be on course for a spot in Round 2 after a scrappy draw with Italy.

15. United States – Faces a huge showdown with Slovenia that could decide its fate.

16. South Korea – Brilliant start against Greece but found Argentina too strong.

17. Ghana – Fought hard to become the first African team to win at this World Cup.

18. Japan – Big upset against Cameroon showed there is some real flair in the squad.

19. Slovenia – Big and strong but technically limited, the Slovenians currently top Group C.

20. Greece – The Greeks recovered from a dreadful start with a much better display to beat Nigeria.

21. North Korea – The North Koreans put in a strong battling display while losing 2-1 to Brazil.

22. France – After a second straight pathetic display, the French will soon be heading home.

23. Slovakia – Seemed very nervous in its first game and was lacking the form it showed in qualifying.

24. Denmark – Failed to show any spark against the Netherlands and allowed an embarrassing own goal.

25. Cameroon – Biggest letdown of the African teams so far, with Samuel Eto’o unable to lift them.

26. New Zealand – Very limited but came back to show great spirit in carving out a draw that felt like a win.

27. Serbia – Couldn’t cope with Ghana and are already in danger of being dumped out of the tournament.

28. Honduras – Was totally overwhelmed by Chile and failed to mount any meaningful challenge.

29. Algeria – Not terrible defensively but the midfield is painfully disjointed.

30. Nigeria – Two straight defeats has made this campaign a huge disappointment.
And I add here, a country well known for its failure to meet expectations - Ufuoma cry

31. South Africa – Host country showed little passion in slumping to a heavy defeat to Uruguay.

32. Australia – Was torn apart by the brilliant Germans and will now miss the suspended Tim Cahill.

LAGOS—BARRING any last minute change of mind by President Goodluck Jonathan, there are very strong indications that Bukhari Bello would replace out-going National Chairman of Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Maurice Iwu and this is authoritative.

In addition, the National Council of State, NCS, a body made up of past heads of state and Chief Justice of the Federation, with all the state governors will meet Thursday to consider the nomination as required by the constitution.

Vanguard can also disclose that Bello’s nomination might have been the indirect result of consultations with a key segment of the Nigerian society: the human rights community.Enquiries by Vanguard, yesterday, revealed that Bello, who might “have been screened and passed fit to be the chairman of INEC, is very capable” of taking charge at INEC.

Contrary to speculations in the media, Vanguard can authoritatively reveal that Nigerians would be shocked at the expected announcement of Bello as the new helmsman at INEC.

Vanguard’s cue on the possible person to replace Professor Iwu was provided by President Jonathan in far away Nice, France. A source said that Mr. President had immuned himself from “the plethora of persons who had been presented as possible replacement.”

Bello, who had been at the helm of affairs at the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, is said “to be a very energetic and zealous individual.”

Vanguard can confirm that President Jonathan had never met Bello before in his life. In fact, the delay in the announcement, apart from the needed endorsement of the NCS, was caused by Jonathan’s lack of any personal of filial relationship with the nominee. Vanguard can also confirm that Bello’s nomination was the handiwork of a bloc, the human rights community.

Jonathan’s cue

President Jonathan had, Sunday, in France revealed that the final screening for a new INEC Chairman was concluded Saturday night, and would be made known to Nigerians after the National Council of State, NCS, had ratified the nomination.

Jonathan also said that though he had neither seen nor met the new appointee all his life, but from the report of the screening, the new man could possess the needed energy and zeal to conduct credible elections that could stand the test of time.

President Jonathan had also made it clear that none of those being speculated by the Nigerian media came close to the identity of the man that would eventually emerge, noting that throughout his career as civil servant and politician he never met with the lucky Nigerian.

Jonathan, who arrived the Nice International Airport at 3.00 p.m. (local time) narrated how the names of possible nominees (State commissioners) proposed and submitted to him by some governors for consideration were jettisoned simply because of his desire to give the best to Nigerians.

He also noted that after the stabilization of the nation’s polity, one of his priorities was  how to conduct credible elections for Nigerians, adding that he hoped to achieve this by giving it all it takes for the nation to get it right for the first time, in terms of elections where every vote counts, appeared excited at the choice he had made for Nigerians.
