“But his voice has been lost in the crowd because they expected to hear sorry but sorry is not the language of leadership.”- Kassim Afegbua, IBB’s spokesman in Compass Newspaper of May 12, 2010. Since the evil genius, retired General Ibrahim Babangida announced his intention to be the president of Nigeria in 2011, he has been making insulting statements and moves all over the country. One is aware that some Nigerians would argue that he has the right to move around the country and exercise his rights as a human being but this writer would differ. The first reason is that IBB has not shown any characteristic of being human and hence should not be entitled to human rights. Two major characteristics of a human being include heart and conscience. In all that this writer has read about IBB and has witnessed of him in power, one can conveniently and categorically state that he has neither heart nor conscience. Hence to argue that he has the right to enjoy human rights would be an anomaly. By implication, one is suggesting that IBB has no right to move freely in human society and if Nigeria is still regarded as one human society, then everything has to be done to have IBB consigned to the zoo where he would rightly fit in. At best, one would suggest that animal rights’ advocates, if they would be kind enough, should take up IBB’s case and see what kind of rights they could appropriate for him. One has made concerted effort to ignore his varied insults to Nigerians in general and especially the Yoruba people of SouthWest. But having just read the report in Compass newspaper of May 12, 2010, written by one Godwin Isenyo, in which IBB tried to portray himself as a victim of June 12 episode, one has concluded that it is unfair to allow someone like IBB to gallivant around any human society as a dangerous animal. Among others, IBB suggested in the report the following: (a) That he, IBB, would have been killed if he did not annul the June 12 election; (b) That a military cabal had held him hostage to annul the election; (c) That he annulled the election in the “national interest” (d) That he “actually cancelled it to stave-off a major political crisis in the land.” Niccolo Machievalli, in his The Prince, had advised that when you are engaged in long knives of politics, above all you must ensure your own survival. IBB has been reported to be a good student of Machievalli and that most of his political involvement since his Coup planning days have been guided by the philosophy of Machievalli. Actually, it has been insinuated that the reason IBB was once referred to as Prince of the Niger by Chidi Amuta in his book (Prince of the Niger: The Babangida Years (1992), was not unconnected with this IBB’s fascination with Machievallian political gamesmanship. However, the fact that IBB was not willing to put his life on the line for the good of Nigeria especially as a soldier, should raise eyebrows. To come out and say that he would have been killed actually gives a glimpse into the cowardly mind of IBB. Yet, this is the man who once boasted that he was not only in government, he was also in power. So, when did the power became an albatross in the course of June 12 election to the point that he was not able to exercise this in in the aspiration of the people? To give an excuse that he was about to be killed seemed to be an afterthought. It did not sound to be real and genuine. As someone in power, he could have exposed the so called cabal and made their plans public. This would have automatically turned IBB into a messiah and the man of the people that he has always sought to be, at least, that has been his expressed desire all along. The fact that he did not mention any name would suggest that he was making up the story as an excuse to justify his heinous crime of annulment of the freest election in Nigeria’s history. It is very annoying and insulting for IBB to come out and suggest that he tried to stave off national crisis by annulling the election of June 12. One would have liked him to come out and define what the nation has been going through since 1993 to date if not political crisis. Or may be the right thing to say is that this is what you get when you allow non-human to define the activities in a human society! In the report, IBB’s arrogance once again came to the fore through his spokesman, Kassim Afegbua quoted above. He contended that the evil genius only needed to accept responsibility for his actions did not need to apologise by saying “sorry” and yet he is still insisting that Nigerians owe him another short in Aso Rock? Hear Afegbua: “We are saying that within the context of issues at hand, if it is on June 12, General Babangida has come out several times to accept responsibility for whatever happened. That it was a mistake and that Nigerians should please forgive him. But his voice has been lost in the crowd because they expected to hear sorry but sorry is not the language of leadership. Owning up responsibility for doing something is the hallmark of a statesman and good leadership.” If anything, what this conveys is arrogance and condescension towards Nigerians. The quote implies that Nigerians could groan all they want, IBB does not need to apologise to them and he would still become president whether Nigerians like it or not. IBB and his town criers still believe that those who are opposing the presidential ambition of the evil genius are “a vocal few against the majority and the tyranny of the minority, not the majority.” What this suggests is that it is either IBB did not believe he is loathed or he is in denial. It is amazing that someone like him would harbour the idea that he is still loved by the majority of Nigerians and that only a “vocal minority” is after him to stall his ambition. So, as IBB continues to insult Nigerians, one is beginning to think that the present effort at garnering signatures around the world to protest his candidateship might not be enough. For determined devils like IBB, mere signatures would not be enough to dissuade him from perpetrating the evils up his sleeves. One assumes that Nigerians are serious about stopping him. If one’s assumptions are correct, then the signatures would not be the instrument of achieving this objective. What would be necessary would be the creation of people’s vanguard all over the country and mobilise them for this purpose. How this would be crystallized is not clear now because there is no identifiable leader for this purpose. Hopefully, other contending interests in the political space would be able to do this as a matter of self interest and political survival. But obviously, it is very imperative that those who are angered by the possibility of IBB becoming president recognize the fact that they would need to do more than gather signatures as he continues in his insult against Nigerians. http://www.saharareporters.com/articles/external-contrib/6063-as-ibb-continues-to-insult-us.html |
FORMER Governor of Delta State, Chief James Onanefe Ibori, who was arrested in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Wednesday, was, cording to reports, arraigned in a Dubai court yesterday morning and subsequently granted bail. Media Assistant to the former Governor, Tony Elumunor, in a statement, subsequently gave a graphic account of how Ibori was arrested and how he was placed on bail. Meantime, UK’s Scotland Yard, yesterday, in an email said: “A 47-year old man has been arrested today, Thursday, 13 May, by authorities in Dubai on suspicion of money laundering and conspiracy to defraud.” However, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mrs. Farida Waziri, said that the anti-graft agency had sent operatives to Dubai to help extradite the former Governor. At Oghara, the country home of the former governor, the situation was calm despite news of his arrest in Dubai. My arrest story — Ibori A statement signed by the former Governor’s media assistant, Tony Elumunor, gave his account of the arrest in Dubai as follows: “Chief James Onanefe Ibori walked out of a Dubai court this morning (yesterday) on bail, after having been arrested on Wednesday. He was in a hotel room by 9.00 p.m., Wednesday, when some agents walked into his room, introduced themselves as acting on behalf of Interpol, saying he was wanted in London. “When Ibori asked why he was wanted in London, they said over credit card fraud. When Ibori replied that he had not been to London since 2005, they modified the reason and said he was wanted for theft. So Ibori said that as they were not sure of the charge, he would not go with them to London. So they took him to a Police station instead. “The following day, Thursday, 13 May, he was taken to court where he was granted bail, and he was allowed to go free. “He has asked his supporters, aides, friends and political associates not to be unduly bothered about the ordeal he is going through as the rule of law is always there to protect any victim of persecution – as I am presently being persecuted owing to my political belief. “He has also accused his political enemies in Nigeria and their United Kingdom co-conspirators of declaring him wanted over charges that have not yet been made public just to influence the outcome of the case against some of his associates in a London court. “That case has gone on for months, and is on its final stretch now and judgment should be given within days. The Prosecution has since closed its case while the defence will make their closing statement on Friday, 14 May. That is why both the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and their London Metropolitan Police collaborators have renewed their malicious legal battering against me for no reason whatsoever. “It is on record that up till this moment, both agencies have not been able to categorically state the charges they have against me – whether individually or collectively.” Eluemunor said that Ibori has urged his followers to take solace in that fact that those who denigrated his name by alleging that he was fleeing from the law, while he was actually under the protection of the Federal High Court, Asaba ruling, would no longer make such a claim. He quoted Ibori as saying: “Today, the question where is Ibori, has been laid to rest. I am in Dubai and the world knows it.” EFCC operatives head to Dubai Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mrs. Farida Waziri said the anti-graft agency has sent operatives to Dubai to help extradite former Governor Ibori who was arrested by the Interpol and Met. Waziri who gave this hint while fielding questions from some journalists yesterday, said the anti-graft agency operatives were already heading to Dubai to help extradite him, noting that the long arm of the law has eventually caught Ibori in far away Dubai. The EFCC had in April declared Ibori wanted after several efforts to get him to honour the Commission’s invitation over fresh fraud allegations including a N44 billion scam case against him. The anti-graft agency had earlier secured a court warrant for his arrest and equally put him on a watch list. Waziri said that Ibori’s arrest might not be unconnected with the search for him by Nigerian security agencies and an international warrant of arrest issued against him by the Met Police in the UK. She said: “Yes, we have been working on the former governor. It has been confirmed that Ibori was arrested by the Interpol. We have been exchanging information and interacting with the Interpol and the MET police since we declared him wanted. International warrant of arrest was also issued. Yesterday, he was arrested and he is undergoing interrogation with them there. The man in charge of his case in the UK has dispatched detectives to Dubai and we are sending our own people to join them to start the process for his extradition. We also have our cases against him here pending. That is the good news. “We have a case against him in the Appeal Court, Benin, the 170 count charges. We appealed, the case came up and he was not there. Two, we have fresh charges for which we want to arraign him totally different from the earlier charges. There are other charges against him which we don’t want to reveal for now. As I told you, we have been working very closely but quietly with the Met police. We have been sharing information and we have issues which we don’t want to go into. We are talking with the Interpol, the Met police and the Dubai police whose custody he is right now. “My initial reaction when I heard of Ibori’s arrest was that of excitement, and surprise too. Surprise because somebody said he had gone to Ghana. Some people also said he is still somewhere in Delta, some say in his village in Warri. My mind never went to Dubai. But the Met police have a relationship with Dubai police. They told me that if he is in Dubai they will get him that it will be easier to track him down. If he had gone to places like China or Japan, and then it would have been difficult. I was very excited. “EFCC is prepared to prosecute him without leaving any loose end. Before, we declared him wanted, of course to arraign him. We have some charges and we have witnesses and we are prepared on our side.” Scotland Yard confirms arrest UK’s Scotland Yard, in an email said, “A 47 year-old man has been arrested today, Thursday, 13 May, by authorities in Dubai on suspicion of money laundering and conspiracy to defraud. “James Onanefe Ibori was detained at the request of the Metropolitan Police Service, MPS, and is due to appear in court in due course. The UK authorities are seeking extradition to the UK. “A number of people have already been charged in connection with the MPS investigation into money laundering.” The news of the arrest of the former governor in Dubai, UAE by the Interpol at the request of the London Metropolitan Police Service was made public yesterday. Reports say he was picked up by the Interpol via a United Kingdom warrant of arrest. Sources in Dubai said the former governor will be extradited to London to face charges of money laundering. Calm in Oghara OGHARA, the country home of former governor of Delta State, Chief James Ibori was calm, yesterday, despite news of the arrest of the former governor in Dubai. There was unconfirmed report that tension had mounted in the town, and that residents were demonstrating but when Vanguard visited the community, the people were going about their normal duties, oblivious of the fact that Ibori had been picked up overseas by security agents. An indigene of the town told Vanguard: “It’s a wicked lie for somebody to say there is tension in Oghara. As I speak to you now, I am in Oghara and there is relative peace. You can see that there is peace here. We are peace-loving people and won’t do anything to disturb public peace.” He, however, said the people were watching the development and hoping that the story of Ibori’s arrest would turn out to be false. But the chairman of the central working committee of the Delta Elders, Leaders and Stakeholders Forum, DELSF, Dr. Richard Tosanwumi said his prayer was that Ibori’s arrest should be true. Tosanwumi said it was unfortunate the former governor declared himself a fugitive and ran away from Nigeria.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2010/05/14/my-arrest-story-ibori/ |

A new petition to Acting President Goodluck Jonathan calls upon him to investigate the “massive fraud” going on at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission under the leadership of Mrs. Farida Waziri. Signed by Joseph Amadi on behalf of a group which calls itself the PUBLIC ACCOUNTABILITY LEAGUE, the petition alleges that Mrs. Waziri has been enriching herself by negotiating deals in cases before her in which she obtains huge commissions. The scams began soon after Mrs. Waziri assumed office, the writers say, alleging an “extortionist committee headed by Mohammed A Bako” that the EFCC chairperson set up which negotiated huge takings “in excess of 35%” for cheques recovered before she assumed office that were awaiting collection. “Our investigation revealed that those who refused to part with any bribe compelled EFCC to discount their cheques with the issuing bank,” the petition says. An important element in Mrs. Waziri’s approach to her job is the Anti-Corruption Revolution Campaign (ANCOR), through which she has sought to portray herself as being a forthright and dogged crusader. Indeed, according to the Public Accountability League, Mrs. Waziri has spent over N700 million on each of the ANCOR launches in Lagos and Abuja. It observes, however, “This was never provided for in either the 2008 or 2009 EFCC budgets,” and “the items used in the events never passed through due process as they were never advertised for.” Turning to the bank reform programme initiated by the Central Bank governor, Mr. Lamido Sanusi, the group also alleges that Mrs. Waziri negotiated 10% from the banks as administrative fees for funds recovered. “Where are the monies recovered from bank debtors?” the group asks. “And how much commission did she charge these banks?” The group also raises questions about Mrs. Waziri’s acquisition of property, alleging that since her assumption of office at the EFCC, she has bought several homes in Nigeria, the United Kingdom and Dubai. Among the more stunning of the allegations, the group writes as follows: “Waziri has since February 2009 been receiving the sum of N50 million monthly from Intercontinental Bank Plc, N20 million monthly from Access Bank and NI0 million monthly from Skye Bank Plc. These monies, represent interests accruing to the over N300 billion recovered looted funds including the N17 billion from former Inspector General of Police, Mr. Tafa Balogun, placed as fixed deposits in these commercial banks by the EFCC. These funds, were supposed to be placed in the federation account instead of these commercial banks.” The full text of the petition is as follows: Fraud In EFCC- Farida Waziri's Penchant For Negotiated Commission On Recovered Funds We are writing to intimate you of the massive fraud going on in the EFCC since Mrs Farida Waziri took over as its Chairman. This fraud has been ongoing but has reached a crescendo since the recovery of debts for the failed banks. When Mrs took over at the EFCC, she inherited several cheques of funds recovered by her predecessor which were not disbursed to the beneficiaries. On assumption of office, Mrs Waziri advertised that beneficiaries of the cheques should come forward to claim their recovered funds. Mrs Waziri immediately set up an extortionist committee headed by Mohammed A Bako. This group negotiated and collected on behalf of Mrs Farida Waziri in excess of 35% for funds recovered before beneficiary’s cheques were released. Several beneficiaries reluctantly parted with these commissions while those who rebuffed are yet to receive their funds. Our investigation revealed that those who refused to part with any bribe compelled EFCC to discount their cheques with the issuing bank. These banks were quick to accept EFCC request just to remain in their good books thereby violating laid down procedure by paying cash to EFCC for a cheque that belongs to another individual or company. These funds end up in the coffers of Mrs Farida Waziri. This practice has been ongoing and has reached an alarming proportion in the recent recovery of loans from bank defaulters. Mrs Waziri negotiates for 10% from banks as administrative fee for all funds recovered. Banks have not been able to complain due to threat and intimidation from the Waziri led EFCC. Most debtors like Henry Imasekha, Peter Ololo etc have parted with several millions to Mrs Farida Waziri. We are attaching EFCC recovery list inherited by Farida Waziri. The list contains case file Nos. Exhibit Nos, Date Cheque/Draft was issued, Issuing Bank/Beneficiary, Amount and investigation Team. In the recovery list No 60. A bank draft of N200million was issued to Delta State Government, List No. 71. A draft of N300 million in favour of Delta State Government and List No 83. for N200million in favour of Delta State Government totaling N700 million. Mr. Acting President, please ask Mrs Farida Waziri how she disbursed the N700million due to Delta State Government. What role did James Ibori and Emmanuel Uduaghan play in this disbursement? How much did she make from the N700million? How much percentage did she collect from companies like Nipco Ltd. and Jugi Mann International Ltd. who protested the extortion of Farida Waziri. Where are the monies recovered from bank debtors? And how much commission did she charge these banks. Mr. Acting President, you just inaugurated the code of conduct bureau to look into the assets declaration of civil servants, can you please ask Mrs Farida Waziri to present her asset declaration form when she took over and her assets to date both in Nigeria, UK and Dubai. Since taking over as EFCC chairman in 2008, Mrs Farida Waziri has bought several properties both in Nigeria and the United Kingdom and Dubai. She bought from the FCDA a five bedroom detached house for N50.4 million at No. 10 Port Novo Crescent Wuse 2 Abuja by Red Cross office. She recently moved into the said 10 Port Novo crescent Wuse 2. This house is valued for over N450 million. Mrs Waziris penchant to amass properties in Abuja continued unabated, She applied for properties with the FCT and it was approved immediately by then Minister Umar Modibbo whom she was investigating. Waziri's Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) was offered to her the next day. The C of 0 read that she was allocated Plot 1460 of 25 Trent River Street, Maitama, Abuja with file number 60219 in Cadastral Zone, B06 of MABUSHI. However, her plot soon assume a game of hide-and-seek. According to a source within FCT who knew about the transaction, Waziri and the former minister suspected that people were aware of the land allocated to her. Waziri, then, arranged with the FCT to change the ownership of her land. On October 13th 2008, the Federal Capital Territory Administration Abuja Geographic Information System (AGIS) wrote her a "withdrawal letter" titled "Notice of Withdrawal of Right of Occupancy", the short letter, addressed to Mr. Farida Mzamber Waziri, stated that her Right of Occupancy to Plot 1460 within B06 Mabushi was revoked by "DISCRETION BY AUTHORITY." The letter listed the Director of Development Control, Director Legal, and Director "URP" as the source of the letter.( Attached) Two days after the revocation, the same plot was allocated to Waziri's daughter, Zainab Naomi Salawu. The same plot was now assigned a new file number GO 60167. In an attempt to hide the exact identity of the re-allocated land, FCT Officials gave the address as 2 River Trent Crescent, Maitama - Abuja. Mrs. Waziri sent Mohammed A. Bako, the EFCC protocol officer, to sign a letter accepting the land. Bako, who signed on behalf of Zainab Naomi Salawu, gave his EFCC Office Phone Number 09-6441118, and Mobile Number: 0803-325-5447, his E-mail Address: abako@efccnigeria.org as well as his home address in Karu Phase 1 Area of Abuja. Mrs Farida Waziri received a Mercedes Benz GL 450 gift from Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom to stop ongoing investigation against her and Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu on billions of Naira stolen by the duo from Akwa Ibom state coffers. Waziri has since February 2009 been receiving the sum of N50 million monthly from Intercontinental Bank Plc,N20 million monthly from Access Bank and NI0 million monthly from Skye Bank Plc, These monies, represent interests accruing to the over N300 billion recovered looted funds including the N17 billion from former Inspector General of Police, Mr. Tafa Balogun, placed as fixed deposits in these commercial banks by the EFCC. These funds, were supposed to be placed in the federation account instead of these commercial banks. Waziri has spent over N700 million each in the ANCOR launch, in Lagos and Abuja. This was never provided for in either the 2008 or 2009 EFCC budgets. All the items used in the events never passed through due process as they were never advertised for. Mr. Acting President, we will avail you of more information and title deeds of the properties recently acquired by Mrs Farida Waziri in London. We have a very big surprise for you Mr. President, so that you will see the nature of woman that is heading one of the most important institutions in Nigeria. It will be worthwhile if the fight against corruption is to be fought, let it be by people of integrity. We wish you well Mr. Acting President and the world is watching you and commend your efforts in the sack of former INEC chairman, IWU. Our own Ikemba Nnewi, Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu is in the news again. This time he is asking the Igbo to support IBB for his presidential ambition in 2011. His reason: IBB was the president who released all his fathers’ property seized during the civil war and kept by the federal government for 23 years after the war. As I write this Ikemba Nnewi is deploying foot soldiers to all nooks and crannies of Igboland to campaign for IBB – a man that was instrumental to the destruction of everything we hold dear in Nigeria. Knowing that my hero is 75, I do not think I want to continue to take our dear Ikemba on some of his actions and deeds that tend to belittle the Igbo and make us a laughing stock, rather I want the big masquerade (nnukwu mmanwu) to age gracefully with respect, honour and integrity. I am of the opinion that what we owe Ikemba now is encouragement and support, to continue to show leadership till his creator calls him. But Ikemba continues to provoke us to talk. Before the Anambra guber elections Professor Maurice Iwu was no friend of Ojukwu’s APGA. Iwu never recognized the Ojukwu’s faction of APGA led by Chief Victor Umeh. It took the intervention of Nigerians from all walks of life to mount repeated pressure on Maurice to change his mind. The pressure was simply too much and Iwu had no alternative than to bow to the power of superior arguments of well – informed Nigerians. But immediately APGA won the elections Ikemba Nnewi changed gear and began to campaign for Iwu for a second term as INEC Chairman. It was the most annoying thing for Ikemba to do and many of his friends felt that the man is getting out of hand. Many of them asked: so Maurice Iwu has become an instant hero for Ojukwu simply because Ojukwu’s APGA won the election? If APGA did not win will Ojukwu ask for Iwu to be retained? The people can no longer understand Ikemba Nnewi. This is totally absurd and unthinkable. Ikemba Nnewi must know that the success recorded in Anambra 2010 was not because Prof Maurice Iwu’s INEC did something extraordinary or spectacular, it was because the civil society, Civil Defense, Red Cross, Youth Corpers, Police, Army, other Security Agencies, concerned individuals, Party Agents and supporters were determined to get it right. Now, the man has taken the provocation further. Ikemba now wants us to vote for IBB. Now let us face it. I think this is politics of ‘self and for myself’ on the part of Ikemba Nnewi. And if I may ask, the so-called houses IBB released to Ikemba, how many of them did he share with his supporters, friends and associates he has been using for years? What have I gained as an Igbo man from the release of the property? Ikemba Nnewi may need to do more explanations on what IBB did for South East during his 9 years in office as President. To ask us to vote for IBB because he released his father’s property is an insult in our collective intelligence. It does not add up. It makes no sense. IBB is not a Presidential material in 2011 and he can never be again. A million Ikemba Nnewi cannot change this and I am being mature about it. Our people like Ikemba Nnewi but this kite cannot fly, the ship cannot sail, the vehicle has a knocked engine. Ours must be a nation of fools if we can be making a case for IBB in 2011. Ours must be a hopeless entity if we continue to talk about a finished product like IBB in 2011. Ours must be a hopelessly retarded nation if out of millions of professionals we have in Nigeria and in Diaspora; we are still talking about a disgraced dictator called IBB. Ikemba, please stop this nonsense, stop this mess, stop this useless campaign, stop insulting us, stop misleading our people on IBB. Nigerians cannot trust IBB. And this is final. Headlines Apr 30, 2010 Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has called on politicians in Nigeria to first reform themselves before talking about national reformation. He also made a strong case for electronic-voting in Nigeria, which he said, would go a long way in correcting the errors of the past. Obasanjo said he believes in the ability of the younger generation to bring lasting political reforms and sustainable development to Nigeria. “One thing that is very bright and makes me happy in Nigeria is that the generation that are coming behind are very promising.’’ Obasanjo’s comment came on the heels of a statement credited to former President Ibrahim Babangida that Nigerian youths are incapable of leading the country. Obasanjo, who did not make reference to the statement, hinged his optimism on the ability of Nigerian youths. Obasanjo made the remarks on Thursday in Washington D.C. at the Leo Sullivan Foundation Forum on Nigeria, while reacting to the removal of INEC chairman, Prof Maurice Iwu, whom he appointed in 2005. Obasanjo said, “One thing that we need to reform in our own society is the politicians; we need to reform the politicians. With all due respect, if Jesus Christ will come to the world and be the chairman of INEC in Nigeria, any election he conducts will be disputed.’’ Okonjo-Iweala in the discussion, which was anchored by Amb. Andrew Young, the Chairman of the foundation, spoke on the theme: “Nigeria Today: Perceptions, Challenges and Opportunities’’, Okonjo-Iweala said the country must not neglect its youths whom she described as the untapped growth drivers of Nigeria’s economy. She noted that Nigeria’s demographic map was full of promise if only it could be directed and managed effectively. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2010/04/30/youths-can-rule-nigeria-obj-counters-ibb/ |
Hi everyone, With all the political turmoil and games being played by PDP, the North, and the Governors, it only remains that Jonathan has no option (if he must return as President in 2011) but to solve some of the most pressing problems in Nigeria (Power, Corruption, electoral reforms) to be able to gain the necessary support/confidence from Nigerians and even the aforementioned groups that he will need to scale through. Also I am of the opinion that most Niger Delta Youths are proud that one of their own is steering the affairs of the state and would only hope that with the little time left, he would make significant changes that will prove that the presidency should be for the man who can actually deliver, not the one that emerges through the North and South rotation scheme. If this does not happen, many of the Niger Delta youths will be demoralized because such an opportunity may scarcely come again. What do you think? Please contribute responsibly. |
I am currently working on a rock album. It will be completed by the end of May. Though this album has been in the making since January, I have had problems with the musicians and friends with how they view rock in Nigeria. They have been reluctant to contribute to the project, many times I see that they feel inferior to their peers who listen or produce hip hop because they are made to believe that rock songs are too easy to make up. |
Even the churches here in Nigeria do a lot of rock music as opposed to 5yrs ago. I know of a Church in Warri that (notable for worhip with rock songs) does most of her praise and worship with rock songs. I hear they are planning on opening a branch in Lagos, I am a rock freak. Rock is my comfort zone. |

the sign that you are/will be effective is shown when people with questionable characters begin to kick against you. such is the case with ribadu. i trust that he will have goodluck this time. |
This is a northern plan to remove Jonathan as quickly as possible before he consolidates his new office, The ghost of 2007 presidential election came to hunt ailing President Umaru Yar’Adua on Friday as the Supreme Court ordered the Court of Appeal serving as the presidential election petition tribunal to commence a fresh trial into a petition filed by the presidential candidate of People’s mandate Party, Dr. Arthur Nwankwo, challenging the election of the president. The apex court remitted the petition to the lower court while delivering judgement in an appeal filed by Nwankwo against the decision of the lower court stopping him from presenting a motion after the pre-hearing conference. In the lead judgement delivered by Justice Ikechi Francis Ogbuagu, the apex court also held that all motions and preliminary objections according to the practice direction guiding election petition tribunal must be taken and considered during the pre-hearing conference stage and not after it. The appellant had, at the lower court, sought to present a motion after pre-hearing conference, which was refused by the court. Following this, the appellant came to the Supreme Court to challenge the lower court’s decision which judgment was delivered yesterday and the apex court upheld the decision of the court of appeal and ordered the petition back to the court of appeal for retrial. The five-man panel of the Supreme Court presided over by Justice Ikechi Francis Ogbuagu in delivering the judgment, noted that no court could hear any matter, motion or application if it did not have jurisdiction to do so, otherwise, the outcome of such hearing would be a nullity. “The best thing to do is to remit the matter to the trial court. In conclusion, the appeal is allowed” even as the court awarded cost of N50, 000 in favour of appellant against each of the respondents. Responding to the judgment, counsel to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Chief Godwin Kanu Agabi (SAN), said that the judgment would help other cases in future as well as expanding the frontiers of the nation’s jurisprudence. He re-echoed the pronouncement of the apex court that once there was a provision for the proper way of doing something, no other way would be adopted in doing that thing aside from the laid down procedure provided for such. He added that the practice direction in handling election petition matters must be obeyed even though the only option for the appellant was to comply with the order of the Supreme Court in commencing the case again at the trial court. The presidential candidate of PMP had gone to the court of appeal seeking to annul the election of President Umaru Yar'Adua and Vice President Goodluck Jonathan, alleging that the process that brought them to power contravened the electoral laws. He claimed electoral inconsistencies and irregularities in the said polls and concluded that the best thing for the court to do was to pronounce the election a nullity.
