A resident of Sokoto State, Nigeria’s North-west, Jamilu Sufi, claims he has been receiving death threats for supporting the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for the 2023 election in Nigeria.

Mr Sufi, a Muslim, disclosed this via a Twitter post on Sunday.

The LP presidential candidate, Mr Obi, is a Christian, from Anambra State, South-east Nigeria.

He said the person threatening him has also contacted his wife and has threatened to kill her too if he (Sufi) refuses to withdraw his support for Mr Obi.

“I don’t succumb to blackmail and threats,” Mr Sufi said in the post.

He included a phone number which he said belongs to the man who is allegedly threatening him.

“It got to a point that he called my wife and threatened to kill her too. I blocked him but he and other guys continued (to threaten me and my wife),” he further tweeted.

Mr Sufi said the unidentified person speaks Igbo and Hausa languages fluently.

He said the man also sent him voice notes via WhatsApp and threatened to kill him.

Mr Sufi told PREMIUM TIMES he had reported the matter to the police in Sokoto State

Mr Sufi has been using Twitter to drum up support in Sokoto State and North-west for Mr Obi and the LP.

He claimed, in one of his posts on the microbloggingsite, to have united the different factions of the LP in Sokoto State, and expressed plan to do the same in other states in the region.


Suspect denies issuing death threats
When PREMIUM TIMES reached the unidentified person via the telephone number provided in Mr Sufi’s tweet, he denied issuing any threat.

He identified himself as Buhari, although he claimed he belong to the Igbo, an ethnic group that is dominant in Nigeria’s South-east.


The man said he was converted to Islam in Kano State.

“It is not true. Disregard it completely, except you have any evidence to show me,” Mr Buhari said of the allegation of death threats.

When asked if he had ever threatened Mr Sufi, he responded, “I don’t even know anybody with that name. I don’t relate with Peter Obi people completely. I am a card-carrying member of the All Progressive Congress. My name is not Kingsley. My name is Buhari.”

The government should tame and imprison this menance of a being before he begins to influence others..

Good evening my fellow nairalanders, in spirit of Truth countless times have created a thread seeking for a job in different platforms here in nairaland, am a single dad with my son hustling just to survive the hardship of the country and i know am not the only one in this scenario, my son is in his last class and presently the head boy of his school and the class monitor and preparing for his common entrance examination but recently he has being missing classes due to my inability to provide some of his primary needs at school precisely his school fees which they have not being allowing him to go to school and it's really affecting his studies and my intention is that i believe that my son is capable and competent to receive scholarship in the said examination and this continuous absence is not helping and encouraging at all. pls if there's any kind of work i can do to raise #18500, i swear to God Almighty that created me I'm very much ready to do anything for my son. Am begging everyone in God most high name to help me in anyway you can. Thanks and God Bless you all. Amen.

Good day great people of nairaland. I'll make this as short as possible and forgive my typo errors.
I've been working in this construction firm for the past five years together with taking care of my family and my girlfriend who has been in school but due to ASUU strike, now at home.
I'm usually busy and spend less time at home except on weekends - Sundays.
Recently, my girlfriend has been talking me into changing the nature of my work to another job that will afford me the opportunity to give more time to my family and her. I insisted that I'll need more time to be able to find another job but she will not have it that way.
Seems to spoke to my mother about it and it's now hell in the home with my mother threatening she will kill herself if I don't quit the job. This job is something I have used in completing my house and paying the fees of my girlfriend.
Lest I forget, I got the hint that my manager is considering me for a promotion and my quitting the job might just spell doom on me!

I'll appreciate all your suggestions, advice and criticism. I'm really in a fix!
