It started with Buhari, and it seems thatTinubu came to continue from where Buhari stopped. From the first day of his inauguration, he removed subsidy and tripled fuel prices, without even thinking of the damage it would have on the economy. Anybody that complained will suddenly become an Ipob member or an Obidient. That's their normal way of politicizing everything.
Till now, no refinery is working. Inflation is increasing daily, yet the politicians are living large in their quarters. To make matters worse, they decided to change the national anthem as if to insult all Nigerians. APC is a disaster.
I only pray that Tinubu takes his time to listen, because one day, the youths will burn down this country.

As much as I have never liked this Government, I totally agree with you.
If not anything, Tinubu has shown that he listens. I pray he chases all those blood-sucking advisers and praise singers around him, who were trying to politicize and ethnicize the protests.
If they had been truthful to him from the beginning, instead of blaming everything on political opponents, these policies would have been implemented long ago.
The next thing he needs to do is to reduce the price of fuel, even if its by 200naira. He would get back the love of Nigerians.

Asides the planned protests, people are complaining of hunger and poverty. To make matters worse, DSTV and GoTV keep on increasing their prices every month. Who in their rightful minds will subscribe every month because of BBN?

All Arik flights across Nigeria were suddenly grounded without thinking of the repercussions it will have on people who had booked their flights in advance. Hundreds of people are suddenly stranded at various airports. Who will bear the costs of these flight disruptions?

If we are being honest, the outcome was a disaster. All the noise and no real change, just a bunch of empty promises. Why are we celebrating a failed movement?

The outcome wasn't a disaster. First of all, the youths finally got the attention of President Buhari, who had been taken them for granted for too long. Remember when he went on an international platform and described Nigerian youths as lazy? Buhari had to quickly do a press conference and address the youths for the first time in his government.
Secondly, SARS was officially disbanded. The dreaded unit which had taken so many lives was finally put to an end. Since 2020, police brutality has drastically reduced. We hope it stays that way.
Thirdly, Nigerian politicians realized that the youths weren't going to tolerate the bullshit they had been dishing out for decades. The protests made them realize that if these youths were to come together, they could overthrow their government.

The End Sars protests were mostly geared towards the Police, not hunger and super inflation, and imagine how massive it was.
Now, same youths are mobilizing again...but this time around, for bad governance. This is not the time to play politics and blame games. The hunger and suffering is real. People close to the President should really advice him to take it easy on the masses.

There is a possibility that the protests may eventually be thwarted, but I strongly believe that this is just the beginning. All it takes is a little spark someday, and the whole country would ignite. When it happens, it wouldn't even be pre-planned.

This Government needs to do better. It is a very very very bad record that barely a year into its administration, there is so much poverty in the land.

There's nothing wrong with the story. Nobody plans for their cars to get stolen, Most times, it happens so quickly that you start questioning if you parked it where you felt you parked it.

Firstly I am a Human Chimera (Twin Chimerism),we are quite rare,many people have no idea what it's about but I am going to write about it,I can't do that in one day but I am going to do it by starting today.

A chimera is essentially a single organism that is made up of cells from two or more individuals i.e it contains 2 sets of DNA,with the code to make 2 separate organisms. People who have 2 different sets of DNA are called Human Chimeras.

Chimerism is a natural phenomenon, a medical mystery that has not really been understood fully till now.

My mother was pregnant,as usual pregnant women go for scans to ascertain the sex of the unborn child and guess what? They told her she was having twins(a boy and a girl) she was excited. She got things for twins and all. Lo and behold,the delivery period came and all that,before I came out,it was a tug of war,they almost did a Ceasarian Section(CS) for her but as they were wheeling her to the theater I popped out,they did all they could to bring out a my twin but couldn't find any other child.There was no 2nd child,everyone was shocked,I guess they searched and searched.

That was when the confusion started,they said it was a medical mystery. They said I absorbed my twin,This was in the 90's though. I was born with a one in a million kind of birth mark,one part of my ass(which I cannot show you) down to my thighs and lower legs are dark in complexion and the other part of my ass(I cannot show you that too) are fair in complexion down to my thighs and lower legs,people who know me know how it looks like in reality. Below are pictures of what I can show you for now,part of my thighs,as time goes on I will add more lol... . I tried to bleach the dark leg,i tried everything, e no gree bleach...I kuku left it jare,I dey flex my thing dey go,anytime I wear a short gown see eyes of shock,people get shocked because I am not hiding my legs,I cannot o. Some people don't even have legs to walk,so I am damn grateful...Ehen before I forget,one leg is fresh and sexy for a lady and the other one is just normal ,I guess it's for my twin,since he was a guy. My big toe nails are kinda different too.

Cost and weather are part of factors that contributed to that. Since they have extreme cold weather wood and insulation is good and its cheaper than concrete. Moreover, these countries have large forests which keeps the supplies of the wooden product going and affordable. Most of the houses are built as prefab (built in the factory and transported to site) both wooden and concrete houses are built like this (most). Even if you build a concrete house wood will be used to partition and line the inside. However the houses have concrete and insulation (fuke fuke) foundation. The woods are well treated and can last for decades.

the next questions is why can't we do that in Nigeria?
Well, we don't have sustainable forest, we keep cutting and not planting enough to replace them. So wood can be more expensive.
Our weather is hot and wet so wood will get destroyed faster here..
Security, it will be easier for thieves to cut through your house with wood. its not that the bricks stops the determined thieves.

If we can develop a cheap housing module in Nigeria, it will really go a long way to address our accommodation issues. As well as being a goldmine for investors.

You identified some issues - hot weather and wet wood that will be destroyed faster. With regular maintenance, cant that be addressed? Like regular treatment or replacement of damaged parts? The same way people patch cracked walls and floors.

As regards security, one can also re-enforce the house with iron bars or something, together with other security measures like alarm systems etc.

It may not be as standard as a regular house, but at least, people will have a decent place to sleep.

What do you think? Cant this be done?

Pretty much everywhere in the world houses and buildings are built with CMU blocks, because they are inexpensive and easy to work with.

My understanding is that the US builders keep building with wood because it is the most inexpensive local construction material and US consumers are obviously not worried about durability. They also probably lack the manpower and knowledge basis for this type of work so they stick with what they know better.

In Europe, people usually expect their house to last several generations, whereas the oldest homes in the US must be 120 years old; maybe there is something about that.

Houses in the US are tore down and rebuilt at a much higher pace than in old Europe.

In the long run, concrete homes are very likely more economical; they last much longer, they do not have mold or termite issues, concrete blocks do not crack or twist like wood does. They hold off much better against elements.

Still, they offer great flexibility; you can easily delete and move the walls as long as they are not bearing the roof.

On top of that, CMU walls have higher fire and weather insulation properties than a typical wood frame wall. A hollow CMU block has a fire rating of 2 hours upgraded to 4 hours if the cells are grouted or filled with other filling materials(which is the case most of the time)

A typical wood frame wall made of 2x6 with 2x 1/2 drywall board and fiberglass wool insulation would likely fail in 30 minutes, unless built with modern 5/8 commercial grade X type gypsum boards; but still the wall would only hold 1 hour against 4 hours with a CMU wall.

The vast majority of houses in the mediterranean do not have air conditionning even though the temperatures often reach over 100 degrees. Walls are typically made of stucco over hollow or grouted (filled) CMU blocks and clay tiles roofs.

People usually keep the windows and doors closed during the hottest hours of the day and open at night so the house remain cold without using ventilation or AC, which proves the effectiveness of such constructions against extreme temperatures

I've noticed this in foreign houses. Just plank and small metal. They don't even have foundations. Small breeze, everything don scatter.

Sadly Seun has failed to realise that there is only an extent to which Nairaland can grow. For a forum that started since 2006, it should have been coming close to Facebook and others.
