Politics / Vote Responsibly by elisjini: 1:08pm On Mar 24, 2015
We have entered a critical week in Nigeria's political History.
The world is watching with interest as we go to the polls on Saturday.
This great Nation, sure deserves change. Change of attitude, lifestyle, thinking, etc. Not the change that will depend on one man but the change where everyone will take responsibility towards building a better country.

Some people have tried to convince me to vote for their candidate because they believe he will bring "change"
They say:
On certificate; ...just vote for him even if he presents "NEPA" bill
On public debate; ...just vote even if he shuns every opportunity to explain how he will bring change.
On Religion; ...just vote for him even if he doesn't condemn Islamic extremism
On Recycling old rulers... Just vote for him,he has changed
On Corruption...Just vote even if he's surrounded and funded by corrupt people, he would change them.
On ability to lead a modern Nigeria...they say just vote for him, we have a good team that will teach him.

I asked, why this blind faith? They said, "because the man who is in-charge now has failed, let's experiment with General....he's too old to be corrupt."
I asked, what if the experiment fails? They said, then we will change him in 4yrs time...hmmmm.

I want a better life for my family and country but I'm grateful for the progress so far made. I'm not ready to throw away what I have and follow the promises of Nigerian politicians.

President Jonathan may not have accomplished all he set to do but no one can deny the fact that his gentle nature and leadership has given us the freedom we never had. Freedom is the core essence of democracy. For the first time in our history even idiots can insult the President and sleep without worry.

On Saturday 28th March, exercise your freedom and vote who you like. I'll vote for GEJ. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,God bless and keep us all,Amen. #VoteNotFight#Peace.
Business / Jonathan Launches Development Bank Of Nigeria by elisjini: 7:52am On Mar 24, 2015
President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday officially launched the Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN).

Though Jonathan observed that small and medium enterprises had always been the backbone of the nation’s economy, he however said the sector never had the opportunity of accessing cheap funds for its development.

According to the president, there exists  over 17 million Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across the country which employ over 32 million people while contributing over 45 per cent to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

He stressed that existing developmental institutions in the country included the Bank of Industry (BoI) and other commercial banks which could not satisfy the funding needs of the MSMEs, hence the establishment of the DBN.

The president spoke at the launch held at the Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa.
“Access to long term finance has been a challenge for the MSMEs. Most MSMEs cannot get long term funds from banks and other financial institutions, forcing them to spend on personal savings, friends and family for loans.

“These loans are typically short term and come at a high interest rate, thereby stemming the growth of these businesses,” Jonathan said.

The president, however, seized the opportunity to launch his campaign handbook titled; ‘Jonathan’s Next Four Years,’ encapsulating his visions for the country should he be re-elected.

The Coordinator for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, explained that the establishment of the bank was for a robust finance backing for small and medium enterprises.

According to her, the wholesale developmental institution plans to offer loans to at least 20,000 beneficiaries in the first one year of its operations and is billed to start business in the next nine months.

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) recently approved a multi-donor credits from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development of the World Bank, Africa Development Bank, Germany and French Development Agency in the sums of $500 million, $450 million, $200 million and $130 million for the establishment of the DBN.

If not for men who are so greedy and selfish, what they want is just power, this country would have gone far beyond this level. This men who are asking for change, all have skeleton in their closet. They have never showed any sign of support to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. You can never bring progress to your family by condemning your brother rather you show him support and love.

If they are true patriots as they claim, they shouldn't be at one end crying wolf, condemning the efforts of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

Politics / Buhari Fails To Apologise For Jailing Journalists In 1984 by elisjini: 12:42pm On Mar 18, 2015
Despite his recent assertions that he is a reformed democrat ready to comply with the tenets of the Nigerian Constitution, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday failed to apologise for his government’s promulgation of the draconian Decree 4, which empowered him to gag the press and jail two journalists – Nduka Irabor and Tunde Thompson – who worked for The Guardian Newspaper when he was military head of state 31 years ago.

Buhari, who during an interactive session yesterday in Abuja with proprietors of newspapers who met him under the auspices of the Nigerian Press Organisation (NSO), missed the golden opportunity for a mea culpa when he was pointedly asked by the Chairman/Editor-in-Chief of THISDAY, Nduka Obaigbena, if he was prepared to offer an apology to the journalists jailed by his military junta in 1984.

Instead of responding to the question, it was the Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Amaechi, who interjected, quoting Buhari’s earlier declaration: “I cannot change the past, but I can change the present and the future.”

Even after Amaechi’s attempt to provide an escape route for the former military head of state, Buhari throughout his session with the media executives failed to express regrets for his actions more than three decades years ago.

The best the Nigerian press got from the retired general was an undertaking that his administration, if elected president in the coming elections, will respect media rights and uphold the supremacy of the constitution of the country.

Buhari said he would ensure that the Nigerian constitution is upheld, including respect for the media, respect for the right to free expression and freedom of speech.

“I am not only subjecting myself to the rigours of democratic elections for the fourth time, but even after being elected, I will continue to promote the consolidation of democracy in our great country, Nigeria, by guaranteeing that the media’s freedom is not compromised in any way.

“I give you my full assurances that the Nigerian media will be free under our APC government,” he said.

Buhari, who told observed that the country was on the verge of something new, said the tide had turned and the world could sense the wave of change about to flood the country.

“In less than two weeks, the Nigerian electorate will head to the polls to make their voices heard. Through the ballot, without a single shot fired, a change revolution will likely take place,” he said.

On whether he would form a national government if he won the poll, he said the issue was not something that could be decided by him alone as a presidential candidate.

On his agenda, he said: “I am a systems man. We have got a committee that sat for several weeks to draw the manifesto of our party. And this manifesto has been widely distributed. Whatever I am going to do, I don't think it will change. We will go by our manifesto.”

He explained that during his campaign tour of 35 states in the country, he had played up three fundamental issues – insecurity, the economy and corruption – as priority areas.

He also said that education and infrastructure, followed by power supply, would be among the first issues to be addressed by his administration.

On corruption, the presidential candidate expressed concern that there were some people who ought to have been punished but who had been let off the hook by the federal government.

Moving on to the electricity situation, he said: “Now if there is power, the vulcanisers, welders, tailors and more importantly the industries would be able to break even instead of closing down. But they cannot break even by having generators and then buying fuel to maintain them.

“It is even impossible because the way the naira is falling, they can’t even save enough money to buy spare parts and raw materials and so on.”

Responding to charges of avoiding the presidential debate, he argued that there was no reason for the debate since the record of President Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was in the public domain.

“To be fair to me and Mr. President, after 16 years of PDP, and six years of him (Jonathan) being in charge, is there anything to debate about? Very seriously, you know the condition we are in no matter who you are. So what should I debate there?” he asked.

Buhari also strongly condemned the postponement of the elections, saying the reason adduced by government exposed the inefficiency of the Jonathan administration.

“There were 14 local governments that were in the hands of Boko Haram – 10 in Borno State, two in Yobe, and two in Adamawa. So if some commonsense is to be used to adduce our position on security, if the Nigerian military could not secure Nigerian 14 councils out of 774 local governments in six years, how can they do it in six weeks? We are watching.

“There are about 10 more days to go in the six weeks. Let's see whether in spite of the help of our generous neighbours – Niger, Chad and Cameroon – whether the remaining local governments can be secured,” he said.

Buhari’s interaction with the media owners came just as the United Nations Under Secretary, Mr. Jeffery Feltham, said during a meeting with the former head of state that the federal government has assured the UN of its determination to hold free, fair and transparent elections on the scheduled dates of March 28 and April 11.

Politics / A Parallel Government by elisjini: 10:55am On Mar 17, 2015
Even though the army has been making strides to stop Boko Haram advances, election and post-election violence could end up splitting the country into two and result in the formation of a shadow government. For its part, the APC has already made threats of forming it’s own parallel government, should they deem the elections to lack credibility and be mired with electoral fraud. According to the Constitution, such an outcome would fall nothing short of a military coup against the elected government.

A “one country two presidents” solution is not unfounded. The Ivory Coast’s contested 2010 presidential elections, which ended in the formation of two governments, plunged the country into a 4 month long civil war, claiming the lives of 3000. Unlike Nigeria, the Ivory Coast had no aggressive militancy wreaking havoc across several of its states and neither does it have the same north/south, Christian/Muslim divide that makes every conflict take sectarian lines.

The escalation of violence by the population is also seen as an increasing threat, with some analysts concerned that should supporters of either candidate feel the elections were unfairly conducted, a disaster scenario of ethnic killings in both the north and south could erupt. Violence following the 2011 elections resulted in the deaths of 800 people, the displacement of 65,000 and the burning of Christian churches and schools.

Electoral fraud and violent outbreaks during the elections will risk tearing Nigeria apart, resulting in the formation of dual political system in a country that requires above all else unity and strong governance. Already plagued with thousands of deaths due to the Boko Haram insurgency, ethnic and religious violence among the population will likely increase the strength of the terrorist group and render the already under pressure army unable to contain the violence on all fronts. The formation of a shadow government will similarly undermine efforts to put an end to Boko Haram and will indicate weakness on the government’s behalf to ensure the stability and safety of the population, country and the region as a whole. A parallel government, which won’t have “the instrumentality to execute the powers and functions of government defeats the entire essence of government”.

The irony of a country risking destruction not only by an ISIS-affiliated group, but by the vanity of power-hungry political figures, which in the face of humanitarian disasters scheme and plot ways to win over power, should not be lost on us.

Politics / North Should Beware Of Tinubu, He Is Treacherous – Fayose by elisjini: 9:45am On Mar 16, 2015
The Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has accused a former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu, of treachery , saying, “The North should know that Tinubu’s support for (Muhammadu) Buhari is a Greek gift.”
Mr. Fayose described the former governor as a politician who would sell out anyone to achieve political gains. He said Mr. Tinubu was not honest in his support for the Mr. Buhari, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
“Knowing Buhari’s age, state of health and mental capability, Tinubu is only using him to achieve his target of high-jacking power from the North,” the controversial Ekiti governor said
Speaking through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Saturday, Mr. Fayose said, “A man who could sell out his own party candidates can sell out anyone given the right prize and political gains.
“Tinubu said with his own mouth at Onikan Stadium, Lagos on Saturday that he was instrumental to the victory of President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2011 general elections.
“He said: “In 2011, I helped Jonathan become President because he made us believe he was a breath of fresh air.”
The governor added that the implication of Mr. Tinubu’s statement was that he sold out the Action Congress of Nigeria, presidential candidate, Nuhu Ribadu, in 2011.
Mr. Fayose said Mr. Tinubu did the same thing to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar under the Action Congress in 2007.
“That to me is treachery and on this issue of Buhari and the March 28 presidential election, I am saying again that the North should beware!” Mr. Fayose said. “The North should know that Tinubu’s support for Buhari is a Greek gift. Tinubu only wants to corner the economy of Nigeria, using Buhari because he knows that he (Buhari) is weak and even at 41, his military government was ran by his deputy, Tunde Idiagbon.
“Therefore, now that the Almighty Allah has made Tinubu to confess that he traded off Ribadu in 2011, I am calling on our brothers and sisters from the North to beware of this political mercenary.”

Fellow Nigerians, we have Just few days to our elections and below are some vital things we must consider before casting our vote.

1. Buhari killed Ben ogedengbe by a death penalty for a crime that didn't carry death penalty when he committed it.

2. Buhari doesn't attend the Federal Council meetings yet collects his allowances. Mr. Integrity indeed.

3. Buhari canceled former Governor Jakande's metroline and forfeited the $50 million paid for it by the then Lagos State Government

4 Buhari used Violence to stop the September 1985 National Conference of the National AssociatIon of Nigeria Students.

5. Buhari jailed Tai Solarin and denied him his asthma drugs simply because he campaigned against military rule and for democracy.

6. Buhari Jailed Nduka irabor and Tunde Thompson for writing a truthful report which embarrassed his Government

7. Buhari raided respected Papa Awolowo's house and seized his passport so he couldn't travel out of the country. Was he also corrupt?

8.Buhari threw Former vice President Alex Ekweme in jail even though it was proven that Ekweme never stole any money.

9. He jailed honest and respected pa Adekunle Ajasin.

10. He jailed Fela Kuti in I984 for singing against the dictatorial tendencies of his Military Government

11 Doctors, remember that Buhari banned the Nigeria medical Association (NMA)

12. Buhari stopped Ooni of Ife for traveling abroad simply because he visited the holy land of Israel in 1984

13. He broke up press conference of ASSU in 1984 and detained four of their executives

14 He jailed Beko Ransome Kuti who only demanded for the release of his brother.

15 He jailed Dr. Sam Onunaka Mbakwe.

Politics / Tinubu’s Claims On Interim Govt. “baseless” — Fani-kayode March 12, 2015sani Tuk by elisjini: 10:15am On Mar 13, 2015
The spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has described as baseless and false the claim by a national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, that the PDP and the Presidency had offered Mr. Tinubu the position of vice president in an Interim National Government if he would part company with the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Muhammadu Buhari.
Mr. Tinubu’s media office said Thursday that “From what can be gathered through informed sources, the PDP and Jonathan Presidency had recently tried to fracture the APC by offering Tinubu the position of vice President in an interim government if he would agree to Part Company with the popular Buhari.
“Once Tinubu rebuffed the offer to participate in the interim scheme, the presidency decided to change tactics. It would no longer try to entice Tinubu with sugar but would now move to silence and if necessary neutralize him.”
Mr. Tinubu did not provide any evidence to back his claim.
Mr. Fani-Kayode, in a response, said, “These allegations are baseless and false. These people have become prisoners of their own delusions and they have become victims of their horrific and terrifying hallucinations.
“We are not in the least bit interested in the formation of an interim government and we are even less interested in participating in any contraption in which Bola Tinubu would play any role.”
Mr. Fani-Kayode also reacted to reports that the PDP was trying to frame Mr. Tinubu, who is a former Lagos State Governor, for the murder of a prominent politician in Lagos, Funso Williams.
“Those that killed Funso Williams know who they are and it is very clear that his spirit is now tormenting his murderers,” Mr. Fani-Kayode said. “Let them be fully aware of this: whoever it was that killed Funso Williams will suffer the judgment of God both in this life and in the life hereafter. God would see to that.”
Mr. Williams was a member of the PDP and he was murdered in his home on July 27, 2006.
He was found tied up, stabbed and strangled. Two people, one his campaign manager and the other a prominent PDP member in Lagos Adeseye Ogunlewe, were arrested for the murder on July 28, 2006.
Mr. Fani-Kayode in his statement Thursday said: “It is not true that anyone is trying to frame Tinubu for murder and it is not true that anyone from our government approached him to be the Vice President of anything. It is clear that he has an overinflated opinion of himself and he is suffering from the most extreme form and manifestation of paranoia.
“The man is hiding from his own shadow and the fear of his party losing at the polls later this month is giving him sleepless nights. Whether he, Buhari and their APC like it or not, they will be devastated at the polls and they would suffer a crushing and irreparable defeat.
“The everlasting confusion that would ensue in their camp after suffering this defeat will never be forgotten. The truth is this: the dementia in which Tinubu is suffering from has come as a consequence of his numerous sins. He should settle all these issues with God and leave us alone.”
