But my advise is that since it is a '97 model bulldog, it is an OBD generation II diagnostics system which means you can get it scanned to diagnose the transmission problems. But note that not all scanners diagnose transmission problems some are just for your engine while others are for the whole power train (transmission codes inclusive). It will pinpoint the exact problem and you will be able to deal with the root cause.
