I know this should have gone to events or somewhere else. Event's too boring a room. Anyway, it just came as a flash, how do people born on this date celebrate birthdays seeing 29th is after four years. Anyone?

sauer: The moment some sexuall/y-confused girl comes up with cheap stories of love and romance, Nigerians just get all wired up! Come on! that storyline can't even compete where serious literatures are. A girl falls in love with her kidnapper, all so aggressively like that? Cheap! If she had used subtleties in communicating her Stockholm syndrome effect and in fact laid it out all so plain while keeping the readers wary of this untoward relationship, she might have made a little more sense. Even if does happen or doesn't (whichever), it's just so nollywoodian! Crap, I'd say!
When will Nigerians start realizing that literature doesn't lie in such blatant descriptions sordidly painted? When will their eyes open to the use of literature as a tool to pry into the deepest recesses of the readers' minds!? undecided
Hmmm. And your point is? I see you are a critic but for what? To down-cast an upcoming writer? I tell you, she may not be a 'Chiamanda' but she's definately going to be 'Umari' and pls sir if you don't like her write-up, NL has enough space for yours.

My point is... don't kill dreams, nurture talents, encourage skills and promote your own. Except ofcourse you are from Tanzania. angry

If your aim is to promote young talents go for it. If its love for Umari, then I think you should but NL up for sale, lol.

Foreign Affairs / T. B. Joshua's Prediction?: Malawi President's Unconscious After Heart Attack by email1(m): 4:05pm On Apr 05, 2012
BBC: Hospitalised
Malawian President
Mutharika Unconscious Posted: April 5, 2012 - 15:45 President Bingu wa Mutharika BY BBC News

Malawi’s President Bingu wa Mutharika
has been admitted to hospital after
suffering a cardiac arrest.
Mr Mutharika, 78, is unconscious in the
intensive care unit of a hospital in the
capital, Lilongwe, after falling ill on Thursday morning. Several family and cabinet members,
including his brother, Foreign Minister
Peter Mutharika, are at the clinic.
Accusations of economic
mismanagement and nepotism have
recently sparked violent protests against his rule. The president has also faced a bitter
power struggle from within his
Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
Mr Mutharika came to power in a 2004
election, and was re-elected with a
large majority five years later. After the 2009 election, he
dramatically abandoned his United
Democratic Front party to form the
DPP.
Since then, critics allege he has
demonstrated an increasingly authoritarian streak. The criticism has led to a souring in
relations with major foreign aid
donors, especially the United
Kingdom.
Malawi is one of the poorest countries
in the world, with an estimated 75% of the population living on less than $1
(60p) a day. The country has suffered shortages of
fuel and foreign currency since the UK
and other donors cut aid in 2010.

Politics / Fela Durotoye's Stand On Subsidy Removal. Convincing? by email1(m): 7:48am On Jan 06, 2012
fela DUROTOYE; Since I got back into Nigeria yesterday,
I have heard some preposterous
arguments that the removal of the fuel
subsidy will be justified by wise
investments that will benefit all. My response has been, How will a
wasteful government suddenly realize
the genius of prudence and making the
right investment decisions simply bcs
there is more money available from oil
subsidy removal? Will there be less graft & bribes involved
in process of issuing the road contracts
or power contracts? Have we sought to honestly find every
way we can plug wastage in our
leaking economy before we ask a
feeble populace to carry the burden of
corruption and gross ineptitude of a
gluttonous few? Have the Presidency, the State & Local
Governments and the Legislature
discovered how to travel without a
convoy of 20 cars to the airport? Can the occupiers of these lofty
positions act in honour as Barack
Obama did in 2010 when he got every
member of his cabinet to take a pay cut,
starting with himself? Within his first few days as British Prime
Minister, David Cameron led the
austerity cuts (upon his assumption) by
cutting down his convoy to 2 cars and
one outrider. The Members of
Parliament in Britain are now only allowed 3rd class train tickets on official
travel (as opposed to their traditional
first class train ticket allowances). The
Mayor of London now rides a bicycle to
work.
Leadership by example!!! How come our 'leaders' in government
earn so much and still spend so much
furnishing the same houses and offices
they furnished with our money last
year? Do you furnish your office every year?
Why should the President, Governor or
Senate President? Wasteful leadership cannot make
prudent investments!!!!! Q.E.D The change we need is not just policy.
Its in the quality of mind and persons at
policy making positions. That said, how will we effectively
deliver sustainable desired-change? History has taught us that governments
increase fuel prices, the people fight,
students riot, labour unions strike, and
then after a couple of weeks, the
government reduces the price but
never to its original price, and everyone feels like a winner, but the
poor know and experience the reality
of the loss. Then we start the cycle all
over again with another administration. God bless everyone who has stood up
against this unjust policy. I salute
everyone who has risked their lives to
Occupy Nigeria with the message that
Enough is Enough. This is only the beginning of a long and
arduous journey. The real Nigerian
spring is going to be in April 2015. WE NEED A CRITICAL MASS OF NEW
NIGERIANS TO TAKE HOLD OF EVERY
LEVEL OF POLICY MAKING POSITIONS BY
2015. Not a few good men and women
whose voices will get drowned in the
cacophony of mediocrity. Let our brightest and best brains begin
serious preparations NOW. Don't wait till
2014 to decide you want to make a
change by running for office in 2015. It
will be too late if you don't start NOW!!!! As we keep up the pressure of
PEACEFUL, NON-VIOLENT PROTESTS
through all channels, let another set of
emerging leaders (with a heart for the
nation and a love for the people) arise
and begin to prepare for 2015. We must encourage, train, mentor and
empower the right people to go where
few dare. I have committed my life to raise and
prepare as many exemplary leaders of
excellence to take over the various
policy making positions at all levels of
governance (federal, state and local)-
executive and legislative. Even when 'they' back down on the
fuel subsidy removal, (only because
they need the banks to reopen so they
can cash some of their billions or so
that the airports can reopen so their
children can travel back abroad to continue their education), don't let us
be deceived again into submission and
celebrate the illusion of victory.
Until we change the quality of people in
policy-making positions, we won't yet
have real and lasting victory. Don't get it twisted, The 2015 elections
is going to be the opportunity for the
real Nigerian Spring. The real question is , Will we be ready
to bring the real change we've always
desired with the same zeal and fervor
as we show now? Please don't let today's passion die
tomorrow.
The struggle continues today,
tomorrow and forever. We WILL deliver
the future! God bless you and God bless the
Federal Republic of Nigeria.

this is truly troubling. What a world! For those who wants to know the location, I did my NCE in Akwanga so I know the place. Akwanga's in Nasarawa State close to Lafia its capital. The police station's directly opposite Diamond Bank. From Abuja its a direct route to Akwanga through Maraba-Keffi route.

Boko Haram : Detained
Senator Admits
Knowing BH
Spokesperson
Posted: November 22, 2011 - 08:49
Detained People Democratic Party
Senator, Mohammed Ali Ndume
from Borno has confessed to
knowing the spokesperson of the
dreaded Boko Haram sect
operating in the northeastern parts
of Nigeria. Senator Ndume
represents Borno South Senatorial
District at the Nigerian senate. The
Boko Haram spokesperson was
arrested and paraded in public
yesterday by the Nigerian secret
police, State Security Services (SSS).
Sources at the SSS told
Saharareporters that the PDP
senator finally admitted that a
relationship existed between him
and Boko Haram but claimed he
was too "scared" to tell it to
security agencies.
The source also stated that some
Senators had began putting
pressure on the SSS to release the
Senator from detention.
The SSS yesterday paraded Ali
Sauda Umar Konduga (a.k.a Usman
al-Zawahiri) who openly spoke to
reporters about his involvement
with the Boko Haram sect. Konduga
was the spokesperson of Boko
Haram who claimed responsibility
for the suicide bombing attacks on
the Nigerian police headquarters
and the UN building in Abuja
according to our sources.
The accused also named the past
Borno State governor Ali Modu
Sheriff and Nigeria’s former
Ambassador to Sao Tome and
Principe, the late Saidu Pindar as
key supporters of the sect.
Ambassador Pindar recently died in
a mysterious auto accident that left
his car mangled beyond
recognition.
Nigerian presidency sources told
Saharareporters that security
agents knew of former Governor
Modu Sherrif's involvement in
sponsoring Boko Haram a long time
ago, but the former governor
enjoys support from the chief of
staff to President Goodluck
Jonathan.
Konduga told reporters yesterday
that he was a member of the
violent militant group in Borno
state known as "ECOMOG" which
received financial backing from the
former governor. SSS sources said
Konduga revealed during
interrogation that Modu Sherrif had
a pact with Boko Haram which
made it possible for sect members
to get political appointments and
substantial financial support from
the former governor before a
falling out.
