PoliticsOfficial Residences Of Legislators Are Often Used For Parties With Prostitutes – by emamos(op): 12:27pm On Oct 17, 2016
Former Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin on Monday accused lawmakers in the country of using their official residences for parties and to patronize prostitutes.
The suspended lawmaker disclosed this via his twitter handle @AbdulAbnJ, accusing Speaker, Yakubu Dogara and Deputy Speaker, Yusuf Lasun, of collecting N500m to rent houses.
He wrote, “On day 88 of DogaraGate: At a time of recession when members of House and ministers collect a paltry sum per annum for rent of official house, Speaker Dogara and Lasun collected 500m naira from multiple sources in the name of ‘we no get official house,’ for rent of houses and guest houses.
“It was in delivering part of the illicit money that the criminal, Hon. Hembe stole part of the money that sparked a fight between him and Lasun.
“Billions have been stolen over the years in the name of providing official houses and guest houses that are often used for parties with prostitutes.”

Politics2019 Election: I May Not Support You, Aisha Warns Buhari by emamos(op): 9:52am On Oct 14, 2016
Wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, Aisha
The First Lady, Aisha has warned her husband, President Muhammadu Buhari that she may not back him at the 2019 election unless he shakes up his government.
Aisha in an interview with the BBC said, the president does not know most of the top officials he has appointed.
She said: “The president does not know 45 out of 50, for example, of the people he appointed and I don’t know them either, despite being his wife of 27 years.”
“Some people are sitting down in their homes folding their arms only for them to be called to come and head an agency or a ministerial position.”
In the BBC interview, the First Lady refused to name those who had hijacked the government, saying: “You will know them if you watch television.”
On whether the president was in charge, she said: “That is left for the people to decide.”
Mrs Buhari also said her husband had not told her whether he would contest the 2019 election.
“He is yet to tell me but I have decided, as his wife, that if things continue like this up to 2019, I will not go out and campaign again and ask any woman to vote like I did before. I will never do it again.”

Crime#chibokgirls: World Press Conference On 21 Girls Released By Boko Haram by emamos(op): 4:27pm On Oct 13, 2016
Gentlemen of the press, good afternoon. We have called this press conference at a very short notice to brief you on the latest development in the saga of the abducted Chibok Girls.
We can confirm that 21 of the girls were released, safely, to us by 5.30 this Thursday morning and they were flown to Kaduna from the location of their release. This is the most glaring manifestation to date of the unwavering commitment of Mr. President to secure the safe release of the girls and reunite them with their families. It is also a result of the round-the-clock efforts by the Administration to put a closure to the sad issue of the kidnap of the girls.
We expect the released girls to land in Abuja shortly. Ahead of their arrival, we have assembled a team of medical doctors, psychologists, social workers, trauma experts, etc to properly examine the girls, especially because they have been in captivity for so long. They will also be adequately debriefed. We have the list of the 21 girls but we are now contacting their parents as part of the necessary verification exercise. As soon as that is concluded, we will release the names to the public.
Gentlemen, as we have always said, we have been working on the safe release of the #chibokGirls and following all the leads available. In this instance, the moment we had a credible lead, Mr President gave the green-light to the DSS to pursue it. We can confirm that the DSS pursued the lead in collaboration with a friendly European country and a renowned international humanitarian organization. The DSS was supported by the military.
As soon as the necessary confidence was built on both sides, the parties agreed on the date and the location of the release of the 21 girls. Please note that this is not a swap. It is a release, the product of painstaking negotiations and trust on both sides.
We see this as a credible first step in the eventual release of all the Chibok Girls in captivity. It is also a major step in confidence-building between us as a government and the Boko Haram leadership on the issue of the Chibok Girls.
We want to thank all Nigerians for their support and for never losing confidence in the ability of Mr. President to secure the safe release of our Chibok Girls.
Gentlemen of the press, I thank you all for your kind attention

It’s a happy day for many Nigerians following report that 21 Chibok girls have been releasedfrom Boko Haram captivity.
The 21 girls were released on Thursday, October 13, after being held captive by the insurgents for over two years.
The deadly sect kidnapped 276 girls from their school in Chibok, Borno state in April 2014. No fewer than 57 girls managed to escape from their captors. Since then, all efforts to rescue the remaining girls have proved abortive.
The federal government has been trying to reach an agreement with the insurgents and today, some of the girls are free after years of captivity.
Here are 8 facts you should know about the release so far.
1.Their release was brokered by International Red Cross and the Swiss government.

Unwittingly, President Buhari exposed a fortnight ago the dingy side of the digital divide he inhabits on the eve of the nation’s Independence Day anniversary. The occasion was the presentation of a picture book in Abuja. Responding to perspectives offered by a youthful panel of arts entrepreneurs on how to maximise the potential of the creative industry in a digital age, PMB’s prognosis was, at best, analogue.
The Federal Ministry of Information, he argued, should devote more resources to expand existing radio infrastructure because, according to him, they offer a broader platform to reach more Nigerians.
Before you begin to wonder the theoretical basis of that presidential conclusion, here was his simple thesis: “Today, those who have television may not have light. As for newspapers, anything above N100, most people cannot buy because that means a lot from the salary they may be earning. But people will always listen to radio to get information because it is free.” With a president unabashedly revealing such bias, I bet all any smart Information Minister needs to do to have his budget for 2017 doubled is simply pad (that treacherous word again!) his draft with all manner of proposals relating to radio, radio and radio.
Ha!
But I dare say PMB could not possibly be speaking of contemporary Nigeria, documented to boast a greater young population who are not only quite restless in the social media but are at home with all the accoutrements of the new info tech age. While the nation’s population is put at over 180 million as at 2016, those under-15 account for 45 percent of that figure. Those between the age bracket of 15 and 24 approximate 19.3 percent. Roughly put, Nigerians under 30 account for close to 70 percent of our national population.
As against the Mungo Park-bequeathed transistor radio Buhari seems to be romanticising, the young Nigerian netizens are addicted to Facebook, WhatsApp, Face Time, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat etc in their everyday conversation. (In fact, the president’s daughter, Zara, is a popular figure on Twitter and Instagram.) Really, the new buzz word of the day is the revolutionary 4G LTE (long term evolution) technology currently being aggressively launched across the country by Glo.
By the way, Glo, a wholly indigenous telco led by Dr. Mike Adenuga Jnr. , accounts for a substantial chunk of the active 150 million phone lines in the bourgeoning telecom market and has so carved a niche for itself that it is now commonly addressed as the “Grandmaster of Data”. (Alongside the likes of Dangote, Glo is also flying the Nigerian flag proudly across the African continent, regardless of the stifling climate at home.) So robust, the ICT sub-sector, of which the GSM telephony is biggest player, accounts for a colossal eight percent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product in 2014.
So, in this light, to be most charitable, PMB’s radio postulation can be entertained as perhaps only true of Nigeria of the early 60s with a population of 45.2 million. He must be speaking nostalgically of the disappearing traditional society where town-criers beat the gong about to draw communal attention. Today, anyone still clinging to that memory will be classified outdated. For such reading is now representative of the lifestyle of only a small sample of the populace. And the curators of this fading culture would be found largely in Buhari’s own section of the country.
