PoliticsTwo Formidable Parties To Emerge In 2017 – Obasanjo by emamos(op): 5:07pm On Oct 03, 2016
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has predicted the alignment and realignment of politicians before the end of 2017 to pave way for the establishment of two strong political parties in the country.
He observed that the present two leading parties – All Progressives (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) – are not vibrant enough to perform the role of ruling and opposition parties respectively.
The ex- President spoke while hosting the delegation of Ondo state Chapter of the Accord Party led by its Chairman of Board of Trustees (BoT), Rev. Adebayo Adeniyi, at his presidential hilltop residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Obasanjo, who observed that Accord Party gubernatorial candidate in Ondo state, Mr. Ola Amuda, has a bright political future, urged the seasoned technocrat and former Special Assistant to late Olusegun Agagu to strive hard and make positive impact during the November 26 poll in the state.
A statement issued by the Ola Amuda Campaign Organisation said the former President charged the candidate to hold his supporters and party members firmly for future consolidation of political parties.
The BoT chairman informed Obasanjo that the Accord Party has been waxing stronger since its formation.

Nairaland GeneralNNPC Begs Marketers To Sell Kerosene At N150 by emamos(op): 2:10pm On Oct 01, 2016
The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr Maikanti Baru has urged petroleum marketers to sell household kerosene at N150 per litre.
Currently marketers sell kerosene between N180 and N200 per litre, and it is also sold outside the petrol stations at N250 per litre.
A statement by NNPC on Friday said Baru spoke in Abeokuta when he paid a courtesy visit to Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun.
“I am calling on other marketers to emulate NNPC by selling kerosene at maximum of N150 per litre which also provides sufficient margin for them to do so. We are committed to promoting the use of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) as an alternative choice for home cooking, which is also available at our NNPC retail stations,” he said.
Baru also expressed its readiness to complete the ongoing Escravos to Lagos Pipeline System 2 (ELPS2) project in the last quarter of this year in order to boost gas to power in the country.
He said the 36 inch and 342 kilometer gas pipeline project would double the capacity of the existing ELPS thereby improving gas supply to Ogun State and its environs.
“We wish to reiterate that NNPC will continue to support the aspiration of Ogun, Ondo and Lagos States towards the establishment of a mega city and the free trade zones.
“As you may be aware, gas supply to these states are key to the realization of these objectives. Our major gas and product pipelines transverse Ogun State,” Dr. Baru declared.
He said the recent achievement of security agencies in safeguarding the Atlas Cove to Mosimi System 2B pipeline would not have been possible without the support of the host communities and the state government.

Car TalkWhat To Do If Your Steering Fails While Driving by emamos(op): 12:04pm On Oct 01, 2016
Understandably, a vehicle is a machine that can malfunction at anytime, likewise any of its parts, including brakes, tyres, steering wheel, etc. When in motion, the sudden failure of certain parts, like steering wheel, can cause serious panic and can even lead to an accident, if not properly managed, given the pivotal role it plays.
Therefore, if you discover that your steering is no longer active, here are a few tips to help you out:
Don’t panic: This is usually the first reaction when drivers discover such, but instead of entertaining fear, put on your hazard light, so as to let other road users know that you have some emergency, hence they should take caution. The magnitude of fear entertained by the driver of such a vehicle is largely dependent on its speed and the location, as to how populated or otherwise the place is. So, instead of driving with fear, exercise some caution and bear in mind that your action or inaction in the next few minutes would determine where you would end up. So, be calm.
Reduce your speed: As soon as you discover that the steering has failed, reduce your speed so that you could have a bit of control of the vehicle. And this goes along with the hazard light. If your car has cruise control, deactivate it immediately either by marching the brake or by putting it off. If you are in a crowded area, apart from putting on the hazard light, use your horn and put on your headlights to create enough awareness.
Move to the side of the road: When your vehicle has steering problem, you should not be in the middle of the road. It is entirely clear that you could be on the fast lane when it happened, thus when you discover it, continue turning it to the side that is safer, and that should be to your right. You could be lucky, and it could respond slightly. So, find a way to move to one side of the road.
Don’t put off the engine: Some people are fond of putting off the engine when the car is moving, especially when descending a hill. And this is usually done to save fuel. But that is not right and it is very risky too. Apart from the fact that it would make the steering wheel to be stiff, it could lead to accident, given the slow response of the steering. So, you need the steering wheel to be as soft as possible, perhaps it will respond along the line.
Do a brief check: If you are able to bring the car to a halt without any issue, you should check the level of your power steering fluid, which could have caused such an issue if it is low. If it is low, then refill it and give it some time before starting it again. In case it still does not respond, or in case the power steering oil gauges, consult a mechanic. Steering failure is not something that can be managed.
Carry out routine checks: Findings have shown that people tend to forget to check this oil because it is not used up quickly like others. But, to avoid unfortunate situations and putting your life at risk, check the power steering oil every day before leaving the house. Also, endeavour to use recommended products so that a wrong product does not damage your vehicle.
Meanwhile, it should be noted that steering failure can manifest either as a total failure of the steering system or if the power steering fails. Whichever happens to your vehicle, don’t panic, put on your hazard light, reduce your speed and find your way to the right side of the road where the risk of colliding with other vehicles is minimal.

CrimeHow We Recovered Over N1bn From Politicians, Others In Niger Delta Within Seven by emamos(op): 4:32pm On Sep 30, 2016
The South-South office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has disclosed that over N1bn was recovered from politicians and other cases in the geo-political zone.
EFCC’s South-South Zonal Head, Ishaq Salihu made this disclosure while addressing protesters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, during a protest by the Coalition of Civil Rights Organisations, Concerned Youths and the Ijaw Nation Worldwide over the probe of the former first lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan.
Salihu explained that the amount which was recovered between January and September falls into two categories.
According to Salihu, “Between January 2 and September 2 alone, the EFCC South-South office has recovered N1.30 billion. What I said can be verified, there are records on that.
“The amount falls into two categories. One, recovery from the Federal Government and the state governments, and recoveries from politicians, and individuals that reported their cases to the EFCC and whose money had been returned.
“We have Recovery Account at the Central Bank of Nigeria. The last time I checked, we have recovered from politicians over N500.5m, that make up the N1bn. Nobody should justify the illegality that has been going on.”
This disclosure is coming at a time the anti-graft agency’s boss, Ibrahim Magu observed that not all Nigerians believe that corruption is wrong , but reiterated his decision to fight the vice.

PoliticsNigerians Are Dying While You Pursue Shadows – CLO Blasts Buhari by emamos(op): 4:09pm On Sep 30, 2016
The Civil Liberties Organization, CLO, Friday blasted the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government for chasing shadows while the country slides deeper into economic mess.
The group’s stand is a fallout of the Attorney-General of the Federation’s failure to open its prosecution on the case of alleged forgeryof Senate Standing Rules, which it instituted against the Senate President Bukola Saraki and his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu.
The CLO, in a statement titled “SENATE STANDING RULE SAGA: FG IS FIDDLING WHILE THE COUNTRY BURNS”, came hard on Buhari for misplacing priorities, leading to the worsening hardship in the country and the increasing spate of death by suicide among Nigerians.
CLO’s Executive Director, Comrade Ibuchukwu Ohabuenyi Ezike‎‎, declared that “the reopening of investigation by the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) into the alleged forgery of the Senate Standing Rule, which is pending before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, comes to us as a rude shock.”
He said the latest development in the case beats imagination, especially the declaration of the investigation as “inconclusive” by the Office of the AGF, even after it had earlier claimed to have concluded and preferred criminal charges against the Senate’s Presiding Officers.
“This is so given the fact that the AGF had earlier tendered an Affidavit of Conclusion of Investigation deposed to, on oath, by Mr. Okara Neji Jonah, Litigation Officer of the Federal Ministry of Justice avowing that the Police Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department had ‘concluded investigation of the case and has forwarded the file to the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation for Prosecution’.
“Only today, at the resumed hearing of the case at the Federal High Court, Abuja, the AGF and his team could not prepare their reply to the written Summons over 90 days they were served with the document.

PoliticsIdoma Group Threatens To Invoke ‘aAlekwu’ Gods On Moro’s Persecutors by emamos(op): 9:25am On Sep 30, 2016
A group under the aegis of Okela Kach’Idoma has threatened to invoke the gods of the land, ‘Alekwu’ on anyone behind the prosecution of their son and former minister of Interior, Abba Moro.

Moro is currently facing trial alongside three others on an 11-count charge bordering on procurement fraud and money laundering over the failed 2014 Nigerian Immigration Service recruitment exercise.
The group said the prosecution was politically motivated just to rubbish the image of the son, Moro.
Addressing newsmen Thursday in Otukpo, the national president of Okela Kach’Idoma, Gabriel Adejor Ogidi, said the people of the Idoma community were not happy with the way Moro was being rubbished in the media.

Accroding to Ogidi, Moro, who is happily married with children, would not set out to organize any exercise that would lead to the death of other people’s children.

The group also faulted the earlier claim by the Comptroller- General of Immigration and Principal Witness (PW1) to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC),Mr. David Paradang that he was not a member of the Steering Committee which conducted the ill-fated recruitment exercise.

“How is that possible? Paradang was in charge of Immigration during the recruitment exercise and as such he cannot deny knowledge of the entire process.
“Now the truth is out. It has been discovered that the former Immigration Boss was actually a Member of the Steering Committee which conducted the ill-fated recruitment exercise. Who is lying now?

“The truth is that he is being used to pull Moro down. The whole drama is staged just to tarnish the image of our son and we will not hesitate invoke the wrath of Alekwu K’Idoma on anyone trying to persecute Comrade Moro,” Ogidi said.

He called on President Muhammadu Buhari not to allow his good image and that of his administration, which he had built for years to be rubbished by some persons he tagged enemies of progress.

“We are calling on the peoples’ president, Muhammadu Buhari to intervene into the case in order not to allow his reputation and that of his government be dragged into the mud,” he added.

BusinessPreventing The ATM From ‘swallowing’ Your Card by emamos(op): 9:16am On Sep 30, 2016
One of the most embarrassing experiences a bank customer can have while using the Automated Teller Machine is when the machine withholds his/her card without dispensing cash.

The ATM is expected to work like a mobile bank that should enable you to have access to your funds anywhere and anytime you insert your card into the machine.

In as much as the ATM has lots of advantages, its essence can be defeated if it swallows the customer’s card when he needs money.

Here are some ways to protect the ATM from swallowing your card:

*.Avoid suspicious ATMs:Some ATMs may not have been properly serviced and may be faulty. If you see some signs that it looks unkempt or abandoned, avoid inserting your card in such machines. Always read instructions on the ATM because most times, there are usually some notes on the machine to inform you that the ATM is faulty and that you should use another one. Some ATMs may also have been tampered with by criminals to steal users’ identities. Don’t be too much in a hurry to try your luck with such ATMs. Look for another ATM to be on a safe side.

*.Multiple entries of wrong password:Be careful when typing your password on the ATM because when you make multiple attempts with the wrong password, the ATM may suspect that you stole the card and withhold it to protect the account holder’s fund.

*.Expired card:An expired card will not bring out any money from the ATM. If you are trying to withdraw with such a card, the machine can swallow it.

*.Blocked card:If you have reported to the bank to block your card because it is lost, but failed to ask your bank to un-block it after you found it, the ATM may swallow the card if you attempt to use it to withdraw money.

*.Low balance:If you have a low balance in your account and you are still attempting to withdraw money, the ATM can swallow your card.

*.Remove your card immediately after transaction:When the ATM gives you a message to remove your card and you fail to remove it on time, it may swallow it thinking that you have forgotten it or that it is now an abandoned card.

*.Damaged card:If your card is damaged, broken or the magnetic strip has been affected, the ATM will not be able to read the card but will have to seize it.

*.Stopped card:If the card has been reported as missing, or the bank has placed a stop order on it, the ATM can seize it if you make an attempt to use it to withdraw money.

*.Wrongly inserting your card:You need to follow the arrow sign on your debit card and insert it into the ATM correctly. If you insert your card wrongly, the ATM may swallow it instead of returning it back to you.

*.Wrong card:Some ATMs do not recognise some card providers. This happens a lot when you travel abroad. If you use your card on such ATMs, they can swallow it

PoliticsSheriff Not In Support Of PDP's Rejection Of Edo Results by emamos(op): 2:56pm On Sep 29, 2016
Disputed National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ali Modu Sheriff, has said he was not in support of Thursday’s rejection of the yet-to-be-declared result of Wednesday’s governorship election in Edo.

He said the rejection of the result ahead of its declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was preemptive.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that PDP in Edo, at a news conference in Benin, announced its rejection of the result of the governorship poll.
The chairman of the party in the state, Dan Orbih, who addressed the media, said the outcome of the exercise had been pre-determined by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

However, at the time of the news conference, collation of results of the election was ongoing at INEC secretariat in Benin.

Speaking on behalf of Mr. Sheriff, Deputy National Chairman of his faction of the party, Cairo Ojougboh, said, “we will await the final announcement of the result, consult widely before making our decision public”.

He said the national leadership was concerned about issues arising from the election, and called for restraint from members and supporters.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Dayo Adeyeye, had in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday warned that the party would reject the result of the government poll if the antics of APC continued.
He accused the Edo Government of sponsoring massive irregularities in the election.

PoliticsPsychiatric Test On Police Officers In Lagos: Police Medical Team Arrives by emamos(op): 11:30am On Sep 29, 2016
The medical team of the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, on Wednesday converged on Lagos state to begin arrangements for the mental evaluation exercise to be carried out on all armed policemen.
The exercise is meant to assist in promoting principles of people-oriented policing as directed earlier this year by the then Inspector-General.
It would be recalled that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Solomon Arase had in January, disclosed that the NPF was considering conducting psychiatric test on recruits and serving officers, stressing that the Force would also consider the idea of a Trauma Centre for its officers because of the nature of their job.
The IGP had explained that the initiative became necessary following incidents of indiscriminate use of firearms by personnel of the force.
The Zone 2 Police Command in Onikan, Lagos state, on Wednesday said the test would be done to maintain standards in the handling of firearms, and police activities in Lagos and Ogun states, the two states that Zone 2 covers.
In a statement made available to newsmen, the Assistant Inspector-General for Zone 2, CP Abdulmajid Ali, said, “The medical team which arrived Lagos state from Abuja comprised of experts and trained psychiatrists from the police medical department and the Melville Healthcare Centre in Abuja.
“The team was led by the AIG Medical, Stella Akintade.
“Units such as the Police Mobile Force and the Special Anti-Robbery Squads, SARS, are to attend a workshop which will mark the beginning of the medical exercise,” the statement added.
