Politics › We Also Feel The Pangs Of Recession –saraki by emamos(op): 7:45pm On Sep 09, 2016 |
Senate President Bukola Saraki says he and other leaders in the country are also feeling the pain caused by the current economic recession.
Saraki said this on Friday while addressing State House correspondents after observing the Jumat prayer with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.
While urging all Nigerians to continue to pray for the success of the government, he wished Nigerians, especially the Muslims, a happy Sallah celebration.
The Senate President said, “Once again, as a country in this period, we will continue to pray. On Sunday, the day of Arafat, we offer prayers for our leaders and the President so that we can do what is right, because we feel the pain.
“We know what the country is going through because there is no Nigerian with blood flowing through his veins that will not know that things are difficult now; and we pray that with God’s guidance, He will see us through.”
He, however, promised Nigerians that with their support, the country would overcome all its problems.
Saraki said, “With prayer, insha Allahu, we will overcome it (economic recession). The most important thing is for us to stay together and give the President support and continue to believe in this great country that we all have and be rest assured that we will all weather the storm and scale through together.”
When asked if legislators would resume by September 20, Saraki said, “Once we resume, we will continue to play our own role to ensure that things get better.” http://punchng.com/also-feel-pangs-recession-saraki/

Femi Adesina has appealed to Nigerians not to lose hope in the Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government. He also stated that President Buhari had not forgotten the promises he made during the campaign period. The Special Adviser to the President on media and Publicity matters stated this in an article on one the daily Newspapers. Excerpts ; “Here comes the preacher. What does he want to tell us? Doesn’t he know that we are hungry, and the din of hunger makes one deaf to reason? The rumble in our tummies, as the worms compete for the little food left there, will surely be louder than what anybody can say now. True? Not exactly. Come, let us reason together,” he wrote. “Father Ejike Mbaka, that fearless priest of the Catholic church, gave an illustration recently, which I believe was not revealed to him by flesh and blood. There is hunger in the land, with people severely famished. And there is ululation, loud enough to deafen the deaf all over again, and wake the dead from his eternal sleep. The wailers are wailing so loud, as if Bob Marley had resurrected with his band, the Wailing Wailers. But hear Fr. Mbaka: somebody came, looted your kitchen, carried away all the food. “He did not even leave you crumbs to console yourself with. And then comes another person, trying to replenish your pantry, trying to restock your kitchen. And then you begin to shout; we are hungry o, we are hungry o, to the point of distracting and discouraging the new man. Who should you rather wail and rage against? The man that looted your kitchen, of course. “That is the exact similitude of the position of Nigeria. There is hunger, lack, and deprivation in the land. But is it a death knell? Not when the kitchen is being restocked, and we will soon feed till we want no more. “I am on a national assignment that has cut my legitimate annual income by one third, so when there is hunger in the land, I go hungry too. Well, almost. When people talk of lack of money, I penny-pinch, too. “Well, almost. Let nobody think those in government are insulated from what is happening in the country. At least, those who have truly come to serve. But those precious promises hold true any day. ‘In the days of famine, my people shall be satisfied.’ ‘The young lion may lack, and suffer hunger, but those that trust in the Lord shall not suffer any good thing.” lalasticlala,mynd44 http://www.thebreakingtimes.com/nigerians-will-have-to-endure-the-suffering-femi-adesina/ |

A 22-year-old housekeeper, Tanko Abdulateef, who was arrested by the police in Lagos State for killing his employer in the Lekki area of the state, says an evil spirit moved him to commit the crime.
Abdulateef, who was paraded at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters, Ikeja, on Thursday, said he stabbed the 50-year-old woman, Mabel Okafor, four times in the stomach.
PUNCH Metrohad reported on Tuesday, September 6, that Abdulateef was arrested by police operatives in the Bali area of Taraba State about two weeks after he committed the crime.
Okafor was reportedly stabbed to death in her apartment on Close 9, Victoria Garden City in the Lekki area on August 17, 2016.
The woman’s phones, some cash and other valuables had also been carted away after her murder. The police thereafter went on the trail of the suspect who fled the apartment on the day of Okafor’s murder. He was arrested on Saturday, August 27.
Speaking withPUNCH Metro, Abdulateef, who hails from Taraba State, said he had just finished cutting the flowers when Okafor called him. He added that an evil spirit pushed him to stab his employer with the scissors and the knife he had used on the flowers.
He said, “I was employed in August 2016; I had not yet stayed up to a month when the incident happened. She agreed to pay me N18,000 at the end of the month. On that Wednesday, she had asked me to cut the flowers. When I was done, I went inside my room. There were only three of us in the apartment. “She called me and I went inside the sitting room. I was with the knife and the scissors I had just used to cut the flowers. A spirit just came upon me and I stabbed her. She shouted my name and that was when I became conscious of what I had done. “She was bleeding profusely. I had stabbed her in her stomach four times. When I realised that I had killed my employer, I packed some of her valuables and ran to my village in Taraba State the following day. I sat down at the doorsteps all night. I could not enter my room.
“Some of our neighbours, who were alerted by my boss’ noise, came around and asked what had happened. I lied to them that we saw a snake and she screamed. So they went back. I don’t know why I killed her. Something just came upon me.” Abdulateef added that he had sold the phones before he was arrested.
He said, “I sold the three phones at N20,000 each in Taraba State because I needed money. I had not sold the clothes before I was arrested. My parents are dead, but I have two sisters. When I returned, I did not tell my family members anything. I didn’t kill her because of salary increment. We had both agreed on N18,000.”
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, said the suspect would be prosecuted at the end of investigation. He said, “The phones, trinket and other valuables carted away have been recovered from the suspect. The scissors and the knife that he used were also recovered from him. “There is another suspect and the two of them will be charged to court at the end of investigation.” http://punchng.com/evil-spirit-made-kill-boss-lekki-housekeeper/

Politics › Economic Recession Won’t Last – Osinbajo by emamos(op): 8:02pm On Sep 08, 2016 |
The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, on Thursday assured that the nation’s economic recession would not last. Speaking at the 8th convocation ceremony of Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State, Osinbajo said the Federal Government is not unaware of Nigerians’ pains as a result of the economic crisis. He insisted that with measures taken by the government, the crisis would “soon go away.” The vice president challenged the youths not to despair but to multitask in order to break even. He said there is no way Nigeria could have avoided the recession since it had in February this year lost 60 per cent of its revenue to the activities of saboteurs. Osinbajo also identified pipelines vandalism and errors of some past leaders as causes of Nigeria’s current economic situation. He urged young graduates to be diligent and take advantage of various international trading platforms to improve their status. lalasticlala,mynd44 http://thenationonlineng.net/economic-recession-wont-last-osinbajo/ |

A Sexagenarian, identified as Femi Faweya, was Tuesday paraded by the Oyo State Police Command for allegedly printing fake Nigerian currency. The 68-year-old man alongside his 42-year-old accomplice, Segun Fayose, confessed to the crime, saying they obtained a currency printing machine with which they had duped many people. Speaking before newsmen at the state Police Command Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, Faweya, who claimed to be a former Grade 2 teacher, said he ventured into printing fake currency because he lost N200, 000 to fraudsters. “I also needed money to take care of my three children who are in the university. “I have been printing N500 and N1, 000 notes with the machine in order to recoup the money I lost to fraudster. “I live at Ijokodo in Ibadan here. I used to photocopy the materials with a photocopy machine. “I was introduced into the business three years ago by Bayo but he is late now. He duped me of N200, 000 without doing anything for me. “About two months ago, someone gave me a printer for the business,” Faweye added. The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sam Adegbuyi, who paraded the suspects said there would be no resting place for criminals in the state. http://dailypost.ng/2016/09/07/print-fake-currency-recoup-money-lost-fraudster-train-kids-68-year-old-man/

Politics › Oby Ezekwesili Expresses Disappointment After Police Blocked Them During Protest by emamos(op): 4:00pm On Sep 06, 2016 |
Bring Back Our Girls, BBOG, convener, Oby Ezekwesili, on Tuesday expressed disappointment over the activities of the police that are frustrating the BBOG campaign, adding that President Muhammadu Buhari is going down the wrong lane. The former minister noted that the BBOG has a right to protest as stipulated in the 1999 constitution and that the police should not in any way halt the group’s peaceful activities. Ezekwesili warned that if the government and the police do not retrace their step, they could end up like the former administration of ex-president, Goodluck Jonathan, who was voted out of office for failing to rescue the abducted Chibok girls among other things. The BBOG postponed its Friday march to allow Muslim members of the group observe the Jama’at prayer service, they resumed on Tuesday, but were blocked by the police and some supporters of President Buhari. Ezekwesili expressed her disappointment via her Twitter handle, @obyezeks. She wrote, “I remember when WE @BBOG_Nigeria would COUNSEL AIG MBU about his excesses against CITIZENS’ RIGHT. A word is ENOUGH FOR THE WISE @PoliceNG. “President @MBuhari Our March today is a TEST. Is the heavy @PoliceNG deployed to the Unity Fountain out to RESTRICT @BBOG Nigeria MARCH? “Pres @MBuhari WE ARE IN A DEMOCRACY. The 1999 Constitution & the Court of the LAND UPHOLD @BBOG_Nigeria ‘s RIGHT TO OUR MARCH. @PoliceNG.” However, it was gathered that President Buhari was not in the Villa as he is currently in Edo State to honour the APC mega rally for the next Month’s governorship election. http://dailypost.ng/2016/09/06/buhari-may-end-like-jonathan-oby-ezekwesili/

Politics › Save Us From Ogun Government, Chinese Firm Writes Buhari by emamos(op): 12:25pm On Sep 06, 2016 |
A Chinese firm, Zhongfu International Investment, operating at the Ogun State Free Trade Zone in Igbesa Town of the state has petitioned the Presidency to wade into the crisis between it and the Ogun State Government. The firm said the Ogun government wrongly sacked it from operating in the zone. In the petition, signed by Jason Han, the Managing Director of Zhongfu International Investments, the firm said it had invested huge amount into the project before the government replaced it with another one. “I write this letter with sorrow and despair. In 2010 my firm, Zhongfu International Investments (Nig.) FZE (“ZIIN”) came to the Ogun Guangdong Free Trade Zone in Ogun State (the “Zone”) as an investor. The Zone was devoid of basic infrastructure for industry. We assisted the then manager (China-Africa Investment Co. Ltd. (“CAI”)) to stabilize the Zone by significant cash investment. By 2012 the project had failed and the Ogun State Government (the “OSG”)terminated the appointment of CAI,” Mr. Han said in the letter. “At this stage there were only 5 operating tenants of which ZIIN was by far the most significant investor. In March 2012, we were called upon to rescue the project as interim managers. In September 2013, we were granted a permanent arrangement when we entered into a joint venture agreement (the “JVA”) with the OSG and a Nigerian company.” The official said in pursuant to the JVA, the company agreed to develop and manage the zone in return for a 60 per cent equity participation. He added that the JVA gave them the confidence to invest their monies as a long-term investment. “After investing over $60 million (Sixty Million United State Dollars) and the Zone is starting to generate a cash flow, the OSG is attempting to unilaterally terminate our contract, force us to abandon our investment and flee for our lives,” the company told the President. “Before explaining our situation, let me begin with the positive story that was unfolding in early 2016 before the intimidating actions of OSG took place, and our efforts to expand the Zone and create thousands more jobs came to an abrupt halt. We have made tremendous sacrifices to give the Zone the high profile it now enjoys in the international investment scene. “This year, we began to see a steady cash flow to the Zone as we attracted many new investors to establish factories in the Zone. We then began the time-consuming process of reaching out to international capital markets to prepare the Zone for financing for massive infrastructure upgrades, seeking an initial estimated $250 million (Two Hundred and Fifty Million United States Dollars) from the international capital markets for the expansion of roads, electricity, transportation, and housing improvements,” the appeal letter reads. Mr. Han explained that in the course of company’s fund development efforts in 2016, the management received acclaim from investors in China, USA, Middle East and from renowned institutions such as the World Bank, Harvard, Yale, MIT and John Hopkins universities. He said the company’s success includes the hundreds of millions of Naira it has generated for the Nigerian Customs, NEPZA and other government agencies. It said it also generated wealth in the surrounding areas of the zone and created over 5,000 jobs for Nigerians. According to the company, these results have been achieved because of its relentless effort to create a supportive environment for industries and the personal sacrifices it has made. It said since December 2012, the company has worked almost continuously in developing the Zone. “We felt some satisfaction when The Economistpublication did a programme on the Zone that was aired on CNN in March 2016.We felt proud when you visited China in April of this year and we signed an MOU with a prospective tenant for a USD 1 billion pharmaceutical park in the Zone,” the company told President Muhammadu Buhari. “However, instead of growing our business, our work has stopped, the contracts we had in the pipeline have been suspended, we live in fear of our lives and others have taken over facilities and assets that we invested our own funds in acquiring. “On Saturday 28 August 2016 you ‘strongly assured’ existing and prospective foreign investors that their investments in Nigeria will be fully secured and protected. We are experiencing a foreign investor’s worst nightmare. Our contract that is governed by Nigerian law is being treated with impunity, the Nigerian legal process is failing us and we desperately need your protection,” Mr. Han said. “Lies have been told about us resulting in the authority of the Nigerian Police, a Magistrate Court and the OSG being manipulated and abused to inflict fear, distress and suffering on me and my staff. A contractual dispute that is a civil matter under Nigerian law and should be resolved in accordance with due legal process has become a basis for thuggery and incarceration,” the letter emphasised. lalasticlala..Mynd44 http://www.premiumtimesng.com/business/business-news/209899-save-us-ogun-government-chinese-firm-writes-buhari.html |

Politics › Buhari Will Restructure Nigeria At The Right Time – Ngige by emamos(op): 11:58am On Sep 06, 2016 |
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, has said contrary to insinuations, President Muhammadu Buhari was not against restructuring. Speaking with journalists in Awka, Anambra State, the Minister said the Buhari- led administration had already commenced the restructuring process starting with the nation’s economy. Ngige also assured Nigerians that the President would also look into the political restructuring of the country, once he is done with repositioning the country’s economy. He said, “Nigerians have positively changed their way of doing things for the better and have become more prudent and judicious in their spending pattern. “It’s one after the other. After economic restructuring to reposition the economy of this country, the Buhari administration will embark on the political restructuring and will set the modalities for the exercise.” On the issue of militancy, Ngige urged the various seperatist groups to lay down their arms, saying violence was not the answer to their grievances. “Militancy and agitations are not the answer to resolving Nigeria’s myriads of problems, which the Buhari administration didn’t create in the first place. lalasticlala,mynd44 http://dailypost.ng/2016/09/06/buhari-will-restructure-nigeria-right-time-ngige/ |
