CelebritiesBREAKING: Former Nobel Price Of Peace Kofi Annan Is Dead by Emaxwell(op): 12:04pm On Aug 18, 2018
Former United Nations Secretary-General, Kofi Annan is dead.

He reportedly died Saturday morning in an hospital in Switzerland.

Born 8 April 1938, Annan was a Ghanaian diplomat who served as the seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations from January 1997 to December 2006. Annan and the UN were the co-recipients of the 2001 Nobel Peace Prize. He was the founder and chairman of the Kofi Annan Foundation, as well as chairman of The Elders, an international organization founded by Nelson Mandela.

Born in Kumasi, Annan went on to study economics at Macalester College, international relations from the Graduate Institute Genevaand management at MIT. Annan joined the UN in 1962, working for the World Health Organization‘s Geneva office. He went on to work in several capacities at the UN Headquarters including serving as the Under-Secretary-General for peacekeeping between March 1992 and December 1996.

He was appointed as the Secretary-General on 13 December 1996 by the Security Council, and later confirmed by the General Assembly, making him the first office holder to be elected from the UN staff itself. He was re-elected for a second term in 2001, and was succeeded as Secretary-General by Ban Ki-moon on 1 January 2007.

As the Secretary-General, Annan reformed the UN bureaucracy; worked to combat HIV, especially in Africa; and launched the UN Global Compact. He has been criticized for not expanding the Security Council and faced calls for resignation after an investigation into the Oil-for-Food Programme.[5] After leaving the UN, he founded the Kofi Annan Foundation in 2007 to work on international development. In 2012, Annan was the UN–Arab League Joint Special Representative for Syria, to help find a resolution to the ongoing conflict there.

Annan quit after becoming frustrated with the UN’s lack of progress with regard to conflict resolution.

In September 2016, Annan was appointed to lead a UN commission to investigate the Rohingya crisis.

EducationJAMB Directs Institutions To Update Post-utme Candidates' List by Emaxwell(op): 10:07am On Jul 20, 2018
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has directed all institutions to update their list of candidates from the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) to ensure that all candidates who recently made changes on their choice of institutions are captured so as to enable such candidates register for the Post-UTME screening exercise of the schools they changed to.
This call was made by the JAMB's Head of media, Dr.Fabian Benjamin during an interview with newsmen in Abuja.

According to him, the call became necessary following complaints from candidates who made changes but could not register for the 2018 post-UTME in the new institutions they chose because their details did not reflect on the portal of the institutions.
He mentioned that many institutions are still holding unto the list that was made available to them before the policy meeting in June and had since not updated the list to reflect the changes that have been made by candidates which is the reason such candidates are not able to register for the Post-UTME.
He noted that candidates have the right to change the institutions of their choice at any time except where the institution the candidate wants to change to has requested that the board block its page to enable it prepare for the conduct of its Post-UTME because if not checkmated that way, some candidates may still make changes in the morning of the screening exercise or even during the conduct thereby constituting serious challenges to managing the exercise.

A lecturer of the faculty of Education, University of Benin (UNIBEN) in trying to prove to the students that he has seen or is familar with the Science Music decided to use the name Shaku Shaku in one of the questions asked during the exams.
From what can be seen on the screenshot below, the lecturer deliberately used the name

It is either he wants to prove that he has seen listening to Science student or he is looking for a way to make the exam less tensed for the students.
Whatever the reason, we know one thing for sure; the lectuer is a Shaku Shaku Fan

EducationHow To Have A Successful Admission Process by Emaxwell(op): 4:19pm On May 04, 2018
HOW TO HAVE A SUCCESSFUL ADMISSION PROCESS

After passing Jamb irrespective of your score it is a commendable feat, the next step is either Post Utme or Screening.
According to the Federal Government which passed a bill ending of march about the total scrapping of Post Utme that screening should only be done, the government as been quiet about it since, for you not to get caught off I would prefer you to start preparation for both.

STEPS ON HOW TO HAVE A SUCCESSFUL ADMISSION

1. JAMB SCORE: Don’t think because you have a good jamb score of like 280 then you are relenting in your preparation for Putme people with 300+ are reading day and night, and don’t always be too proud of your score, most people with higher jamb score don’t always show off, there are always cool when putme comes out you will see the gurus among gurus, Be Humble.

2. JAMB SUBJECT: Most time I see aspirant for Law, Medical Courses asking if there are going to write Math’s, what you wrote in your Jamb Subject is still the same you are to write in your Post Utme Exam.

3. O’LEVEL: Last year people were denied admission due to wrong O’Level, all the subject you wrote in Jamb you must have credited them in your O’Level with another relevant subject, to complete the required O’Level. So it is better to know your school requirement before opting for a course, Some School have special O’Level requirement for each Faculty e.g. Further Mathematics is needed in Unilag for all Engineering Courses, while other University require either Biology or Further Mathematics.
Note: Agricultural Science / Geography is not considered a science course in most university when opting for engineering or physical science course; it is only in environmental science that geography is an added advantage for O’Level.

4. PUTME SCOPE OF EXAM: Knowing the scope of exam makes it easy during preparation for the exam, that why the universities always provide a past question for preparation and knowing how they set their examination. Most University don’t allow calculator unlike jamb were there is a calculator in the software of the exam, so you have to learn how to calculate with decimals, trig ratios and other mathematical signs to avoid consumption of your time. Practice makes perfect.

5. PAST QUESTION DEPENDECY: Never depend that when you cram all the past question that the exam will be given from the past question, like I said earlier past question is just for you to get familiar with the scope of exam, read you textbooks before embarking on past question, to be able to know you level of answering questions, and always get corrections for the ones you get wrong, to be able to be familiar with answer, so that next time when you have a similar problem like that you will be able to answer them with ease.

If you need past question you can comment in the comment section with your email,University and department because I have past question in pdf format there are free no charges .

CrimeA Chinese Scientist Stole American Rice And Will Spend Up To A Decade In Prison by Emaxwell(op): 2:30pm On Apr 06, 2018
A scientist from China has been sentenced to 10 years in prison in the United States for stealing seeds of genetically modified American rice, the Department of Justice announced Wednesday.

The Chinese scientist, Weiqiang Zhang, 51, was a legal permanent resident living in Manhattan, Kansas. He was working as a rice breeder at Ventria Bioscience, a biopharmaceutical company that creates genetically modified rice. He stole hundreds of rice seeds from the company that had cost millions of dollars and taken years of research to develop, according to the Justice Department. He kept the seeds in his home.

Then in 2013, United States Customs and Border Protection agents found the seeds in luggage belonging to researchers who visited Zhang from China. They were on their way back to China with the seeds.

In February, he was convicted of three counts: Conspiring to steal trade secrets, conspiring to transport stolen property across states lines and transporting stolen property between states.

“Weiqiang Zhang betrayed his employer by unlawfully providing its proprietary rice seeds to representatives of a Chinese crop institute,” Acting Assistant Attorney General John Cronan said in a statement. “Today’s sentence demonstrates the significant consequences awaiting those who would steal trade secrets from American companies.”

Weiqiang Zhang, in this handout photo released on December 12, 2013, by Kansas’s Wyandotte County Detention Center, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for conspiring to steal rice seeds from a biopharmaceutical company in Kansas. Wyandotte County Detention Center/Handout via Reuters/REUTERS

The conclusion of the years-long case comes as President Donald Trump’s administration is planning to punish China for what the White House has said is the theft of intellectual property by that country. In a tweet on Wednesday, the president put the annual amount of intellectual property theft at $300 billion.

FBI Director Christopher Wray has also warned about China. Asked during a Senate intelligence committee hearing in February about the counterintelligence risk from Chinese students in the U.S., Wray said, “The use of nontraditional collectors, especially in the academic setting, whether it’s professors, scientists, students we see in almost every field office that the FBI has around the country…. They’re exploiting the very open research and development environment that we have.”

Two public defenders for Zhang did not respond to requests for comment on Thursday.
EducationEXCLUSIVE: For Engineering, University Admissions Are Led By Three States, JAMB by Emaxwell(op): 6:39pm On Mar 31, 2018
For five consecutive years, three Nigerian states took an unmistakable lead in university admissions into courses leading to the award of degrees in Engineering, a Jamb Admission analysis shows.

The states are Oyo, Ogun and Osun.
More than the other 33 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, the three states, in varied sequence, maintained a consistent lead in JAMB-administered admissions for Engineering courses in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015, the analysis based on data from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board(JAMB) shows.

The data were verified by the National Bureau of Statistics.

The three states were closely followed by Delta, Ondo, Imo, Enugu, Akwa Ibom, Kogi, and Kwara states.

Some states in the second category broke into the first three in some years, while in other years, they missed out entirely from the top eight.
Edo made the top eight states twice, while Kaduna and Benue made the best eight once, each.

The data are for students admitted through test-based examinations conducted by JAMB. JAMB’s admission process is guided by merit, university catchment area and gives advantage to educationally-less developed states.

The analysis follows a similar evaluation by this newspaper of admissions into Medicine. A future assessment will focus on Law – the three being some of the most competitive university programmes in the country.

As the Medicine report, which showed a largely regional trend with South-East states of Imo, Enugu, Anambra and a South-south state, Delta, taking the lead, the latest analysis on Engineering shows mostly South-west states in top positions.

Engineering trend
The JAMB data show that in 2011, while Osun had 1,196 students admitted into various universities to study Engineering degree courses, Ogun followed with 1,117 students with Oyo coming third with 1,076. Delta came fourth with 883 and Benue was fifth with 847 students.
In 2012, Oyo emerged first with 1, 339 students, Osun followed with 1,339 and Ogun came third with 1,081. Akwa Ibom was fourth with 966. Ondo placed fifth with 901 students admitted into Engineering.

Oyo led again in 2013 with 1,870 students, while Osun followed with 1,478 and Ogun came third with 1,244. Delta came fourth with 1,165. Fifth position was taken by Kaduna with 1,068 students.

In 2014, Osun returned to the first position with 2,168 students, with Oyo dropping to second with 1,647. Ogun came third with 1, 639; Delta was fourth with 1,447 and Ondo with 1,281, took fifth.

In 2015, Oyo reclaimed the first position with 2,536 students, Osun followed with 2,326, Delta came to third with 1, 511, while Ogun was relegated to the fourth position with 1, 468. Ondo maintained the fifth position with 1, 368.

EducationRe: JAMB Spokeman Reply Association Of Tutorial School Operators Over Exam Date by Emaxwell(op): 3:16pm On Feb 23, 2018
those tutorial people are thieves, institutions warned their candidate to obtain jamb form in as much as there are waiting for admission, why are there now clamoring for extension?
EducationJAMB Spokeman Reply Association Of Tutorial School Operators Over Exam Date by Emaxwell(op): 2:39pm On Feb 23, 2018
Scores of young Nigerians yesterday kicked against the date for the 2018 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to be conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

The candidates displayed placards with various inscriptions such as; “Admissions are yet to close, why conducting another UTME now?”; “JAMB isn’t for revenue generation, stop milking our parents,” “2017 UTME held in May, why March in 2018?”, “2018 admissions not transparent”.

They said many of them, who had hoped to be admitted by various institutions during the 2017/2018 academic calendar year, just found out this week that they were not admitted and that less than one month cannot be enough to prepare for another examination.
Addressing the press during the protest, National President of the Association of Tutorial School Operators (ATSO), Dotun Sodunke, said if allowed to hold as scheduled, Nigeria would experience another round of mass failure.

Sodunke added that institutions like the University of Benin, Yaba College of Technology, among others, just released admission list on Wednesday, and that the students who had applied to such institutions would not concentrate on preparation for another examination.
He said; “The new head of JAMB needs to be called to order. He should not be carried away by the euphoria of revenue generation.

The future of this country depends on these children.
“JAMB is sure that if you conduct the exam early, many candidates would fail, and they would come back to register again next year.
This is so because their children don’t school here.

“Admissions are yet to be concluded, yet you are fixing date for another one. Who does that? The introduction of the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) is also a fraud. You would be admitted on JAMB portal and on CAPS page it would deny you admission.
“Everything is done in secrecy as we don’t even know which schools are organizing post-UTME and which ones are not. Every institution is doing what it wants. Things must not go on like this.”

Reacting, JAMB spokesman, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, explained that there was yet no basis for the postponement.
Benjamin said; “We need to place the interest of this country above selfish interest. The candidates are not the ones staging protest but the tutorial centres operators, and parents must intervene to rein them in”, New Telegraph quoted him as saying.
“They are doing this because they want to keep the candidates at their centres till May so that they can get more money from them. Things are not done that way.

“JAMB is not alone in this business. All stakeholders in Nigeria’s education sector have realised that our calendar must be organised and firm as we experience abroad, and it must start somewhere.
“Even if heaven will fall, the new government wants to ensure that academic calendar starts every August, and that is why all admissions will be concluded by August this year. So if these candidates are affected, we apologise to them, it is for their good and the good of the nation.”
