sinkhole: Still on ASUU strike and the lies from Ngige.
The gross salary of the new professor and the professor on the last step is N437,499 and N540,619 respectively. If the Briggs' renegotiation panel actually recommended a 180% increase in the salary of Professors, it means that:
For a new professor, the gross increase will be N437,499 x 1.8 = N787,498. And the new gross salary before tax and other deductions will be N437,499 + N787,498 = N1,224,997.
For a Professor at the bar, the gross increase will be N540,619 x 1.8 = N973,114. And the new gross salary before tax and other deductions will be N540,619 + N973,114 = N1,513,733.
How did Ngige get his N2m for Professors? As a science student in secondary school and a medical student at the university, I don't want to believe that his mathematics was terrible.
Meanwhile, I learned that a court has ordered FG to pay judges a minimum salary of N7m per month.
©Amoka I’m in support of ASUU, but your calculations are wrong , 180% increase means you have to times their current pay by 2.8 not 1.8. Let me show you why you are wrong. If 180% increase means multiplying by 1.8 then 100% increase means multiplying by 1, which is obviously wrong. Again,I don’t why everybody seem to be blaming Ngige. Where’s the minister of education , where’s Buhari? If u r waiting for Ngige nothing will come out of it. He has no power to settle ASUU. As a politician he’s only speaking to defend his Oga |

Subsidywise20: Seriously, I am getting tired of you guys saying the same old thing.
Governor X son graduates from UK college...therefore that is why our education system is poor in Nigeria.
No. Our education system is poor in Nigeria because we insist on paying school fees less than 300 dollars per annum for something that should cost at least ten times that. Meanwhile we fund universites and secondary and primary schools from a moneypot that is one tenth of what the UK spends in a year as its budget.
Anytime fee increases are suggested, you Nigerians complain 'we are poor'. Tax increases? We are poor. Yet all the countries that have education for free in Europe pay taxes at rates that would make Nigerians cry if we brought it here.
Then there is the economy. We think that by selling less than 2 million barrels of oil, we can get enough money for 210 million people. 2 million barrels of oil cannot sustain nations of 30 million, and we expect it to sustain 210 million.
So we need more money...and our idea of getting more money is dividing the country into regions and making sure each region sells agric produce and mineral products...whose prices we do not control...meaning...we still end up being broke (plus agric has long since moved on to mechanized farming. To stay competitive, most of yer farming has to be mechanized, not the less than 10% we have here).
We should be making things...but thanks to no light...which happens because we pay less than the cost for power production...meaning power companies cannot make a profit to fix things. We could have been exporting refined products...if our oil industry was running profitably and not subsidised into losses...because we want N40 per liter fuel....
So, our universities are a mess. Meanwhile, we pay our political leaders a hefty salary. And with this salary...what do they do...they send their kids abroad....like most rich, upper middle class, and even some of the middle and lower class people.
If you want good universites...find money for them. That means rasing fees, taxes, probably allowing discos to control the pricing of power, and allowing the petroluem sector to sell fuel above N500. Yes, poverty. Yes, we would suffer. But we would have the money to pay for welfare projects...like free education...among other things.
Yes, I know, papa went to shcool for free. In 1972, one university held 3000 students. Today it is likely to be above 40000, and there are more than the six that were there in 1972...meaning it was much easier to fund back then.
But you will tell me poverty, corruption, etc.(true) You may call me a Buhari or tunubu supporter*(not true, never voted for them, never will). So, let Obi win. Might be good for the country...and eight years later when we are seeing the nth ASUU strike and the nth NUT strike....and the private universites displacing the now collapsed public universities... maybe we would talk then.
We can keep lying to ourselves that there is some messiah, some magic solution...or we can face reality and start making some real decisions. In whose hands is it to do all these things? Is it Obinna in Alaba market or Musa in gwari market? Isn’t the govt. that has the power and mandate to make policies and implement them. Why are you sounding like you don’t have a working brain |

Ayibanengiyefa: Growing up to know these about the Hausa's Fulani: Their nomadic life is exceptions Very contented with whatever life brings to their ways, that's why you would heard them saying:”Isoro Allah=The Lord giveth an He taketh whenever He likes” on any misfortunes that befell them You may be seeing them all over the places doing all kinds of menial and the so called dirty jobs(even some people, esp the most arrogant among the Nigerias tribes would or usually call them names in an abusive manners), they are the richest and most accommodative amongst all. Though, the western education seems to be a taboo to them, they're are ruler and No 1 amongst the leaders of the educated.,while few that's privileged or put time aside to go to school is the brilliant and well positioned for leadership. The most unified tribes are them and would or ready to go extra miles for any of his brother who's is being cheated, even if it's required killing in massive. Western culture don't fancied them, they seems so contented with theirs,be it language, culture or style of living. They hardly mix married,if they did and there's tribal crisis, the non hausa or Fulani wife or husband would be the first victim as a sign of their loyalty to the brotherhood. I have heard them did that in the times past, not knowing now. Their religion is Islam and few that got converted may be considered as a bastard and he would be excommunicated or being killed.
The Yorubas( Ooduduwa descendants): History and their traits shows their high level of intelligent and prowess They are the most accommodative,be it Muslim or Christian Western Education or Education of any sorts delights them, because their general belief is that :”the day you stopped learning is the day you starts dying”,so they take Education as a priority. Their intelligent process does helps them to pay attention to details and for the due diligence; whenever there's a leadership challenges or when the country is at crossroads, they will be the one to proffer solutions like the ancient men of Issachar. They don't much believes in luck or quick ways of getting results, but in patience and consultation. The chief amongst them Is being worshipped by subjects because of his God's like ways of thinking and acting. Their polygamous ways of life is due to their ability to manage situations without being called a fool at ends and for the reasons that “the more your subjects, the more your influence. Aside from Education, agriculture is another ways of life for the Yorubas, the old labours agriculturally through his farm produce to sponsor his children to school; getting more wives, more slaves gives him power to accomplishes his purposes. Yoruba don't segregate, that's why no religion or beliefs is superior. This gives rooms for the families members who are either Muslims or Christians to live happily together with their traditional worshippers brother and sister ,under the same roof and compound without any rancor. Parties and ceremonious worship is rampant and you can deduced from it how joyous they usually are. They believed in work, pray and play. The Igbos They're known to be the most industrious among all, their classic way of life is a result of the fact that you must get things done by any means.
Ibos don't beg for anything, they preferred going out of their way to get the solution than to bow They are usually aggressive and violent, when you don't give way. Ibos sees manipulation as a game and the more you devise a playing ways , the more you win. To them,Flamboyance and lavishness is a sign that you are progressing. No one is above another, everyone is a chief in igboland. The elderly ones, becomes subjects immidiately there's a ride of the once little ones. They don't or hardly mix married. It's 1/20. Though, they don't stay at home beyond probably age 12, you must make it and come back home to build house at least one. They are mostly Catholics and traditionalist. If they dies, they must be brought home for sacrifices and “proper” burial. Ibos are dominatory, they sees every other person except their ownselves as a subject that must be conquered. They hardly trust others, but you wouldn't know until something serious happens They usually hates their true friends, easily forgot past helps and loves their glaring persecutors. Their women are usually beautiful and sexy(yellowish in color), while their men is usually strong physically. Money is what they systematically worship, you must get money. Other tribes, believes that,if you have them as a tenant, you're in trouble. Their desperation for power and lack of focus has relegated them to the level of an 3rd citizens in the Nigerias project. You are just misinformed or probably have no education. Most northerners you see around doing menial jobs are not Fulanis. Igbos mix marry very well more than the Yoruba. I don’t even want to argue with you . You say they don’t stay at home beyond 12 years, this simply means you have not visited or lived in Igbo land. For instance I can name more than 3 kinsmen of mine that married kogi women, and one that married a Yoruba woman. But I can’t swear with my life that you that anybody close to you that married an Igbo woman |

The main bone of contention is replacing IPPIS with UTAS or U3PS. PJ123: ASUU is a very selfish union. They're tactically fighting for their selfsh interest and hiding under the image of fighting for students. Imagine refusing to work for several months and expected to be paid to during the strike or at worst all the accumulated salaries after the strike. They didn't loose anything fighting for their supposed selfsh interest.
Virtually all the sectors of Nigerian economy is in serious crisis. Imagine the situation of our doctors and state of the hospitals in Nigeria, if doctors go on strike for 4 months given the pressure they go through daily and poor state of health facilities, what would be the fate many poor Nigerian patients who still patronise government hospitals and some of them still receive their health care in those government facilities.
Government needs to be very decisive with this union, funding of Universities throughout the world is a concerted efforts of the government, universities, private sectors and the alumni. Many professors in Canadian Universities are appointed on part time basis. Government needs to grant these universities financial autonomy. Government should stop paying university salaries, all government needs to do is to provide subvention from time, and allow each university to source money to pay whoever they employed as lecturers. The students should be made to pay the actual cost of the University education as obtainable elsewhere. While government should provide comprehensive scholarships for students on 2:1 and above, while those on 2:2 below with clear cut evidence of being an indigent students should be placed on loan to be repaid after school. Are you an illiterate or what? Didn’t you read that negotiations have been concluded with the Briggs committee since may but the FG has not deemed it right to look at the agreements and give the next line of action |
