Please I need your advice on this. I just checked my visa interview application portal only to see that only my surname and first name are showing. On my i20, I have my middle name included. On my passport, I have my middle name included. On my Ds160 I also have my middle name included. Do you think this will be an issue during the visa interview? I don't know if this is how everyone's profile is because I am believing that I filled my middle name while creating the profile (not so sure of this). I need suggestions on what to do since I have not scheduled an interview but I have already paid and entered an MRV receipt number. Thanks for your anticipated response

It is not a problem, secondly that’s the way it shows in the appointment confirmation, it shows only your first and last names as the applicant.

At the end of the day, your interview and decision depends on your VO! Pray that Baba God will bring you to a sensible VO who is mature and non sentimental, and non discriminatory.

Some of these VO’s look down on Nigerians too much thinking everyone is broke or poor

Abeg, it’s just like the way some Nigerians go to Babcock, Covenant etc and spend millions in fees, while others go to Federal or State schools.

I got admission to other schools, but I really wanted to go to Stevens. Because of the quality of education there. The research work of most of my would be lecturers and professors were in line with my own research. Then to crown it all, graduates from Stevens get jobs immediately.

Two weeks to the completion of your program, companies like Microsoft, Google, IBM, Facebook, US Agencies like CIA, FBI, NSA would come to the school and start scouting for people to employ.

Good luck to intending interviewees. I wish you all success

That’s very true bro, that’s the reason I said from their previous experience with some Nigerians that later fall out of status because they were unable to pay for their fees. That actually makes them decide immediately on our application at times. But what they need to know is that not everyone is the same, you don’t tell someone what will be good for him/her , he or she already knows the best thing they will ever need. But just because of the mindset they have about what Nigerians are seeking, they use it for everyone. Let’s just hope for something new bro, you will get it next time.

Do you consider 40k USD as large fees for a program of 2 years?

Well it depends on how your interview goes, you should prepare yourself for any outcomes, that’s the spirit! Our conclusion now might not be what will happen on your interview. But always stay positive.

what if he is using student loan to finance the program

Everything depends on the visa officer. But the thing is that if you do not want unnecessary scrutiny on your visa application, it is good to avoid schools with large fees without funding.

Well, I was actually going to pay it. Because my family is well to do and I was with account statement with good balance.

I think that’s actually one thing the VOs do not understand about us, if one has the money to pay for his fees even if it is an hundred thousand dollars, I don’t see the need for denying someone in regards of finance. As you just said now , there are still other people that have the money to pay for their fees even without any funding but because of previous experience. This people nor trust us again. So when they see this they immediately think negatively.

I remember when you were interviewed

I was also denied yesterday

They were just dishing out denials ehn

I’ll post my transcript later, but for now, I’m still crying because my program starts in 2 weeks time

I’ll have to defer

People who got approved yesterday were mostly aged couples going for their children’s graduation ceremony

Then few guys going for summer work. (I don’t even know what this is)

An elderly woman going for Omugwo for her daughter was denied. Like why??

A girl on wheelchair going for medical treatment abroad was denied too. Very sad!

Some students also got approved, but those with good schools, good funding, and good educational qualifications. Like GRE, TOEFL etc

My reason for denial: “You don’t have the funding requirement for this program”

Whereas I was with account statement o

He didn’t even bother to check

When he asked me how much my sponsor earns monthly. I said a particular amount. I think he calculated it to dollar on his system.

By the way, I was going to Stevens, my COA is about $60k (lol) them no gree give my funding or GA

Omo you just said it na. $60k with no funding at all. You need to find another school or you ask the school for funding. It will be difficult to prove to the VO that you are going to pay that fee when you get there. Although I know of some people who got their visas with $50k without any funding but it is something that is really rare, you will need to tell the VO why you or your sponsor want to spend times 2 of that huge amount for 2 years if going for masters.

Thank you for your response, Francangel. I have already scheduled a visa interview with this old sevis ID which I am having difficulty changing. My issue is if this will affect me during the interview.

Hello, if I may ask the old sevis iD you used in booking the appointment is it the same school that gave you alongside with the new sevis ID? If not it kinda difficult for you to edit the sevis number again in the CGI portal after booking an appointment already. The only changes you can make is on your ds-160 and that is by filling a new ds-160 form. But the most important one now is the CGI portal, because the sevis number that you already used in booking an appointment is not what you will be using. I don’t know if it is the same school that sent you those different sevis number. Because for me when I deferred my admission, my sevis number was still the same. So I don’t know for others. But any way I would advice that you contact the embassy to explain this to them, because to me personally there is no changes you can do your self in that cgi portal regarding change of sevis number as far you have already booked an appointment. The only alternative is to cancel the appointment but I don’t even know if may be you’ve canceled your appointment before or if may be you’ve rescheduled before. If you have done that before you shouldn’t cancel your appointment again because you will end up losing the mrv fee.

Guys do you have to evaluate your WAEC results in other to apply to community colleges?

It all depends on the school you are applying for, some schools may require you to evaluate your result, others just tell you to send them the original copy. So first check on the school.

Good evening all, please can I pay for visa fee and book appointment date before fill ds160 after receiving I-20. Thanks

You need to start filling your ds-160 form and then get your ds-160 number before you then book an appointment. Even if you haven’t completed the ds-160 form you can still book an appointment just that you need to start filling the form to get that number because you will need the ds-160 number when booking an appointment.

Hello Gurus in the house, thank you all for all your contributions. Please I wanted to get your thoughts on something.

I have a sister who is a US citizen and she resides in the same city as my school. Here's my question, is it better I fill her address as where I'll be staying or should I say I'll be staying on campus. Bearing in mind that her house is abt 20mins drive from the school.

Also, is it better I use her as my contact information or should I use my uncle who resides in another state?.

Ps: I fully disclosed that I have a sibling in US when filling my ds-160.

Thank you.

you should use your school location as where you will be staying. there is nothing bad using her as a contact information. I'm sure you just need to be prepared to explain to the VO the reason why you are going to the US. the other things are in the Lord's hands.

my cgi page doesn’t show me any dates when I pick Lagos as location but when I put my location to be Abuja it brings out next available date but Iagos it shows nothing
I created a mail just to check if I was the only one experiencing this and sadly I am it shows available dates for Lagos
But when I log into my own account I used to apply for visa it doesn’t show any dates in Lagos

There are some issues on their site now, so mine is a different problem if I check available date it shows me nothing at all, but don’t worry I am sure this will be resolved soon, maybe they are working on their portal and they have to restrict some applicants from viewing the available date. This is going to be resolved soon don’t worry.

Yes you can as long as you are on F1 visa
You don't need to pay a new MVR fee to retrieve and submit a new DS160 ok

you should please know that once you have booked an appointment already in the CGI website, you can't change the sevis number and the school name again except if your appointment is canceled by them their self or you pay another MRV fee. you can only update some of your details there such as update your names, ds-160 number and so on.

Please expert in the house help me with the following question.

1.Can I book a date for interview before paying for my SEVIS fee, I don't have the money for the fee now until April.

2. Can I apply for visa with school A, and later Edit the school to B, before the interview.

The reason Is that I av gotten my form1-20 from Troy, CSU,Findlay but just got admission with Buffalo today and it might take time before they issue me form 1-20.and it is the school I want to go.

I need to apply to get dates, with what I at hand.

Please I need answer to question 1 &2.

Thanks

to your first question you can, after paying your MRV fee you can book appointment even without paying sevis fee but make sure you pay your sevis fee 3 days prior to your visa interview

for your second question you can only apply for F1 student visa with just only one school, so I am sure if you already booked a date with Troy, you wouldn't be able to edit it again except you buy another MRV fee. so it better you check which would be best for you.

Hello, @Gurus in the house,
My name is Lawrence. I want to use this medium to thank each and every one of you for your help in answering my questions when my Visa application was delayed. I successfully deferred to the Fall semester (August 2021).
Because of the pandemic, .

brother it will be good you do not transfer your credits yet, you can still be doing that for the online with BYUI, you can just use your previous admission with ISU since you already deferred to go for your interview again, we just pray that everything will work well this time. anything can happen, my friend that got his visa approved yesterday was really surprise the way his interview went. only God takes control over this.

Congrats to him

Is he a fresh high school graduate? Or what year did he finish

He finished high school in 2015 and he was asked what he has been doing since then. He was able to tell the VO what he was doing since 2015. He was on a full time missionary service since that time.

Yeah I get you. I booked my initial date cos it was within the 120 days rule, and I just wanted to get done with the visa stuff asap. I think I will just wait till a month to when I wanna interview cos it seems they can just cancel stuff anytime.

That’s very true but I think it will be better you keep checking dates again, whenever you see the one that fits you. You should just book it instead of waiting till a month time. Who knows how next month’s available dates will be but I know it will be fine, more dates are coming. I’m going to wait till I see one.

Guys please do you have any idea how far in advance one should be booking a visa appointment? My appointment that was scheduled for the final week of April got cancelled. And a few people for the visit visa also said their interviews they booked in January for April were also cancelled. The appointment page shows May 20 as the next possible date. I'm asking because there is no point booking a date 3 months earlier if it's going to be cancelled. Is it now best to be booking a date less than a month in advance? I'm going for Fall 2021.

Mine was suppose to be towards April ending and it was cancelled as well. You can still be able to wait for more dates to pop up. I am still waiting as well. You can book any date you wish to book as far it is within that 120 days prior to your start of program.

Hello, I was denied a tourist visa in 2018, while filling the ds 160, I mistakenly filled a wrong course of study, now I’m about to apply for a student visa, do you think it is a red flag change my course to the correct one??

you should change your course of study to the correct one. it should match with the one on your i-20 , you can still be able to fill another DS-160 if may be you have submitted the previous one. fill a new DS-160 and update it on the CGI site where you book appointment.

I was also scared when I heard sept has already been filed up cos I was still waiting til next month to reschedule bfr..but still I am surprised April and May had bn filled up..I was actually intending for early May but I got no choice I had to go for June wh I saw as the earliest date..

In Abuja the current available dates now are from November. I was shocked when I saw this. But I know they will move the dates back may be soon.
