Religion / Re: The Best Way To Stop Masturbation And Pornography (my Story Included) by emma2002(m): 10:20am On Jul 21
Wait a minute... !

Wait a minute...

1. Masturbation and pornography are far from the "worst" sins - countless people have engaged in these acts and still managed to live stable, productive lives. Quit treating them as moral catastrophes.

2. This nonsense about people having sex with demons is pure fantasy, not grounded in biblical teachings. Stop peddling such baseless superstitions as fact.

3. The reality is that people have committed egregious sins - sins with far more severe and damaging consequences. Yet many have still been able to recover and lead normal lives. Focus on those more substantive moral failings, not minor infractions.

4. Abstaining from certain behaviors should be about upholding your own personal dignity and ethics, not just adhering to a narrow list of "sins to avoid." Take a comprehensive approach to morality, not a checklist.

5. And let's be clear - those who have abstained from things like masturbation or porn are not inherently "better" or more virtuous. Morality isn't defined by restricting specific acts. Quit with the self-righteous moralizing.

The bottom line is we need a more nuanced, rational view on sexuality and sin. Simplistic condemnations and fearmongering do far more harm than good. Show some intellectual honesty and moral humility here.

Investment / CBN To Invest Dormant Account Deposits In Treasury Bills & Government Securities by emma2002(m): 9:31am On Jul 21
Sami Tunji
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has disclosed that it may invest funds from Dormant Accounts, unclaimed balances in Nigerian Treasury Bills (NTBs) and other government securities.

This is according to the newly released “Guidelines on Management of Dormant Accounts, Unclaimed Balances, and Other Financial Assets in Banks and Other Financial Institutions in Nigeria,” by the CBN.

According to the new guidelines, the CBN will create and manage a dedicated account called the “Unclaimed Balances Trust Fund (UBTF) Pool Account” to warehouse unclaimed balances.

The guidelines also mandate that the principal and any accrued interest on the investments must be refunded to the beneficiaries within ten working days of receiving a request.

What the guideline is saying
The guideline document read: “CBN shall treat unclaimed balances (dormant accounts and financial assets) as follows:

“i. Open and maintain the ‘UBTF Pool Account’;

“ii. Maintain records of the beneficiaries of the unclaimed balances warehoused in the UBTF Pool Account;

“iii. Invest the funds in Nigerian treasury bills (NTBs) and other securities as may be approved by the ‘Unclaimed Balances Management Committee’.

“iv. Refund the principal and interest (if any) on the invested funds to the beneficiaries not later than ten (10) working days from the date of receipt of the request.

“v. Where it is imperative to extend the timeline, a notice of extension shall be communicated to the requesting FI stating reasons for the extension.”

The CBN’s guidelines stipulate several key objectives, including identifying dormant accounts and unclaimed balances, reuniting them with their beneficial owners, and holding these funds in trust.

Eligible Accounts and Exemptions
The new guidelines define eligible accounts as those that have remained dormant for ten years or more.

These include various types of accounts such as current, savings, term deposits, domiciliary accounts, and prepaid card accounts.

Other financial assets eligible under these guidelines include proceeds from unclaimed financial instruments, unclaimed salaries, wages, and bonuses, among others.

However, the guidelines also list exemptions. Accounts subject to litigation, under investigation by regulatory authorities or law enforcement agencies, or encumbered accounts, such as those with liens or used as collateral, are excluded from these provisions.

What you should know
The CBN is tasked with maintaining the UBTF Pool Account, overseeing the management committee, and ensuring compliance with the guidelines.

It is also responsible for publishing the list of owners of unclaimed balances and the procedures for reclaiming these funds on its website.

In addition, the CBN is to publish an annual notice in three national daily newspapers inviting the public to check details of outstanding unclaimed balances in its custody.
Financial institutions are required to monitor inactive accounts, notify customers of inactivity, and protect these accounts from unauthorized usage.
They must also publish details of dormant accounts and transfer eligible unclaimed balances to the CBN’s UBTF Pool Account quarterly. Additionally, financial institutions must maintain records and publish notices regarding the process of reclaiming unclaimed balances.
In cases where financial institutions are in liquidation, the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) assumes the role of the financial institution.
The NDIC’s involvement ensures that unclaimed balances in liquidated institutions are managed and transferred according to the guidelines, protecting the interests of the account owners and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
Account owners are also responsible for informing financial institutions of any changes in their personal information and submitting applications for reclaiming their funds. They must provide appropriate proof of ownership and comply with the procedures set out in the guidelines.

Crime / Apapa Customs Intercepts Shipment Of Cutlass From China, Other Items Worth N292m by emma2002(m): 9:20am On Jul 21
Customs Area Controller, Apapa Command, Babatunde Olomu (3rd from left)

The Apapa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has intercepted seven containers of contrabands including cutlass, expired drugs and some frozen chicken among others.

Parading the contrabands at the Apapa Port complex today (Friday), the Customs Area Controller, Apapa Command, Babatunde Olomu, said the items were worth about N292.2 million.

Olomu said “this type of importation is against schedule 3 of the revised import prohibition list of the Common External Tariff (CET) and violates section 233 of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023”.

He said: “On Thursday, 17 July 2024, the command seized 2x40ft containers carrying 12,000 pieces of cutlass and machete; 2x40ft carrying 4,129 packages of frozen chicken; 1x40ft container carrying 368 jumbo bales of used second hand clothing; and 1x40ft container of expired pharmaceutical,”

Olomu said the cutlass and matches were imported from China, the expired drugs from India and the frozen chicken were from Turkiye

He said the seizures were made following a combination of intelligence and diligent enforcement in ensuring that no consignment exits Apapa Port or any terminal under the command without undergoing proper examination.

He reiterated that the Apapa command would continually sustain and improve on trade facilitation and maximum revenue collection without compromising the enforcement of the extant laws as they pertain to false declaration, concealment, under declaration and under valuation.

“We are also enforcing the requirements for sister regulatory agencies like National Agency for Food Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in the case of food and drugs and strict implementation of the end user certificate rules for products that require it from relevant authorities like the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA),” he stated.

He however warned against smuggling of prohibited items and restated that the command would keep ensuring that only consignments that meet the integrity test of compliance will be allowed to go through this port either as import or export cargoes.

He said the seizures would be handed over to the appropriate agencies for further investigation and regulatory action.

Family / Re: My Younger Brother Seems To Hate Me! by emma2002(m): 6:46pm On Jun 16
I understand your concerns and feelings. It's painful when family members, especially siblings, don't appreciate or reciprocate love and support. You've done a lot for your brother, and his indifference and lack of gratitude are hurtful.

Firstly, acknowledge that you've tried addressing the issue with him directly, which shows you care about your relationship. Since that hasn't worked, consider the following steps:

1. *Re-evaluate your financial support*: It's fair to reassess how you allocate your resources. Consider redirecting support to siblings who value and appreciate your efforts.
2. *Set boundaries*: If you choose to continue supporting your brother, establish clear expectations and consequences for not meeting them.
3. *Don't internalize his behavior*: Remember that his actions reflect his own character, not yours. You've shown kindness and generosity; don't let his behavior define your self-worth.
4. *Prepare for mother's reaction*: Anticipate your mother's potential emotional response and plan how to address her concerns. Explain your perspective and feelings calmly, emphasizing your desire to support those who appreciate your efforts.
5. *Seek support for yourself*: Talk to a trusted friend, family member, or counselor about your feelings and experiences. They can offer valuable guidance and emotional support.

Remember, you deserve respect and appreciation from those you support. Prioritize your own emotional well-being and make decisions that align with your values and needs.

Foreign Affairs / Putin's Ukraine Gambit: A Bid For Control Or A Genuine Peace Offer?" by emma2002(m): 6:35pm On Jun 16
Russian President Vladimir Putin has recently stated his terms for a ceasefire in Ukraine, which includes several demands that have been met with skepticism by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the international community. Putin's demands are seen as a way to justify Russia's invasion of Ukraine and to persuade the West to make concessions on Ukrainian territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Putin's Demands

- Ukraine must pull out from the four regions annexed by Moscow in 2022
- Ukraine must renounce plans to join NATO
- Ukraine's recognition of Crimea as part of Russia
- Ukraine must retain its non-nuclear status
- Ukraine must restrict its military force
- Ukraine must protect the interests of the Russian-speaking population
- All Western sanctions against Russia should be lifted

Why Putin's Terms are Unacceptable

Putin's demands are seen as a way to legitimize Russia's invasion of Ukraine and to force Ukraine to surrender its sovereignty. Ukraine's rejection of Putin's demands is seen as a way to maintain its independence and territorial integrity. The international community has also rejected Putin's demands, seeing them as a way to justify Russia's aggression.

The West has imposed sanctions on Russia in response to its invasion of Ukraine, and lifting these sanctions would be seen as a way to reward Russia's aggression. Ukraine's recognition of Crimea as part of Russia would also be seen as a way to legitimize Russia's annexation of the peninsula.

Conclusion

Putin's terms for a ceasefire in Ukraine are seen as a way to justify Russia's invasion and to force Ukraine to surrender its sovereignty. Ukraine and the international community have rejected Putin's demands, and it is clear that a ceasefire will not happen unless Russia withdraws its troops from Ukraine. The conflict in Ukraine is a complex issue, and a peaceful resolution will require a comprehensive and inclusive political settlement that takes into account the interests of all parties involved.

Business / Multichoice Records Loss As Subscribers Decline by emma2002(m): 2:17pm On Jun 16

South African-based satellite television service provider, MultiChoice, reported loss-making for the year ended 31 March 2024 after incurring a net loss of 4.1 billion rand, ($225.8 million at current exchange rate).

The company recorded loss for the second year running, its audited accounts released on Wednesday showed.

Shares in the company dropped by 0.25 per cent on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange following the news.

The latest loss compares to a loss after tax of 2.9 billion rands recorded in the corresponding period 2023 and was driven by net foreign exchange translation losses of 6 billion rands.

The substantial net foreign exchange translation losses resulted from losses on “USD-denominated non-quasi equity loans between MultiChoice Africa Holdings B.V. and MultiChoice Nigeria Limited,” the company said.

NDDC AD
“This follows the depreciation of the NGN against the USD from a closing rate of NGN464.50 in FY23 to NGN1 308.00 in FY24,” it added.

According to the income statement, revenue dropped 5.9 per cent to 55 billion rands due to a slide in subscription fees, MultiChoice’s primary income source.

“The combination of foreign exchange headwinds and a lower subscriber base resulted in a net decline in group revenues of 5% to ZAR56.0bn,” MultiChoice said elsewhere in the financial report.

General and administrative expenses jumped to 18.4 billion rands from 16.6 billion rands a year earlier after surges in employee costs and software license expenses, weakening operating profit.

“While we are not alone in feeling the challenges of a weak consumer environment, I am proud of the speed and effectiveness of the team in implementing strategic actions to retain customers, safeguard cash generation and drive cost savings which surpassed our targets,” CEO Calvo Mawela said in a statement.

Adoke AD
“It is the strength of this team, the quality of the underlying business, and the clarity of our strategy that underpins my confidence in delivering on our potential,” he added.

The subscriber base fell by 9 per cent owing to a 13 per cent drop in subscription rate outside its base in South Africa, a business unit the company often refers to as “Rest of Africa.”

MultiChoice noted that Nigeria, Zambia, and Angola were the most affected, while South African businesses were more resilient, posting a 5 per cent decline.

Loss before taxation stood at 706 million rands compared to a pre-tax profit of 921 million rands a year earlier.

Family / Bewitched By Revenge: A Race To Undo The Curse by emma2002(m): 5:29pm On Jun 15
In 2011, I met Kwaku, a man from the Akan tribe, who would become a significant part of my life for the next seven years. We started dating, and he promised to support my education and marry me. But our relationship was marked by pain, betrayal, and heartbreak. As an Ewe woman, I faced discrimination and rejection from his family due to our ethnic differences.

Kwaku took my virginity, and I got pregnant three times during my high school years, each ending in abortion. He encouraged me to start teaching and save money for school but borrowed money from me without paying back. I realized I was in a toxic relationship but stayed, hoping things would improve.

In 2017, Kwaku dumped me, citing his parents' disapproval of our relationship due to my ethnicity. I was devastated but later returned to him when he begged for a second chance. However, our cycle of pain continued, and I finally ended the relationship in 2018 after discovering his infidelity.

Seeking revenge, I visited a medicine man and poured a substance at Kwaku's doorstep, hoping to curse him. But seeing him in 2021, mad and destitute, filled me with regret and a desire to undo the curse. I sought the medicine man's help again, but he was unavailable.

Now, I'm reaching out for assistance in reversing the curse and freeing Kwaku from his madness. I understand that my actions were harmful, and I want to make amends. If you can help me, please share your advice or guidance. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to undo the harm I caused and move on with my life.

You can share your thoughts and advice in the comments section below. Let's work together to find a solution and bring closure to this painful chapter.
