Patience Jonathan, says she has spent N3.5bn treating children with heart diseases' - Wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience Jonathan, says she has spent N3.5 billion treating children with heart-related diseases through her foundation, Aruera Reachout Foundation. Mrs Jonathan said this while reacting to allegations made by EFCC that she used the foundation to launder money for her husband while he was in office. In a statement released by her media aide, Belema Meshack-Hart, Mrs Jonathan said her foundation is a “non-governmental, not-for-profit organisation that sponsors the treatment and surgery of children and adults with heart conditions. “Till date, over 700 children have benefited from the Aruera Reachout Foundation. This alone cost the foundation billions. It is not news that the logistics involved in the treatment of heart disease cost over N5m per child. This demonstrates the caring and maternal nature of Nigeria’s former first lady. God has used her as an instrument to positively touch the lives of some of our nation’s sick children, to make them healthy and happy through the appropriate medical intervention. It is now strange and sad that the EFCC will allege that such foundation only existed to launder funds. The many sick children that would have died but now live a happy life will stand as testament against the baseless propaganda and shameless allegation of the EFCC. It is worthy of note that the foundation which is duly registered by the CAC is free to receive donations from reputable individuals and organisations for its projects just like any other NGO.” the statement read Mrs Jonathan is being tried by the EFCC for alleged money laundering. Recall that early this month, she released a statement accusing the EFCC chairman, Ibrahim Magu, of witch-hunting her because she supported her husband during the 2015 election. http://ogashub.com.ng/massob-ipob-threatens-violence-nnamdi-kanu-arrested/ The Movement for the Actualisation of a Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has threatened to cause violence if Nnnamdi Kanu is arrested. Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), had earlier told newsmen that he will be happy if he is re-arrested, adding that it will hasten the actualisation of Biafra. According to reports, the Federal Government is reportedly noting the alleged breach of bail conditions by Kanu, and may ask the Federal High Court in Abuja to put him back in prison. On April 25, 2017, Justice Binta Nyako granted the IPOB leader bail to the tune of N300 million. Kanu was also barred from being in a crowd of more than 10 people, and granting interviews, among others. The IPOB leader however dismissed the bail conditions, saying he does not care what happens. According to Daily Post, MASSOB’s leader, Uchenna Madu said that his members will collapse Nigeria if Kanu is arrested. “MASSOB warns that any attempts or plan to re arrest Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will be thoroughly and massively resisted. We can never tolerate it. It is an insult and embarrassment to our inalienable Rights. We shall collapse Nigeria if he is arrested. “Now that we know that our consistency and exposure of the hidden truths is dangerously frustrating, disorganising and killing their age long agendas against the people of Biafra, we shall never relent or surrender.” The Arewa Youth Assembly (AYA) organised a protest in Abuja on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, demanding for Nnamdi Kanu’s arrest. http://ogashub.com.ng/massob-ipob-threatens-violence-nnamdi-kanu-arrested/

As the 2019 general elections approach, many Nigerian politicians are seriously consulting and angling for opportunities to actualize their ambitions. One of Such politicians is Ex-Vice President, Atiku Abubakar. PoliticsNGR has learnt that the political heavyweight and APC chieftain is holding secret talks with opposition party, PDP. According to This Day, he is considering a return to the party that has since resolved its leadership crisis. Serious pressure is coming from the Adamawa chapter of the PDP asking their former member to return to the fold and be the presidential flag bearer for the party. Atiku has previously had two unsuccessful shots at the presidency and it is believed that his ambition is still alive and will attempt contesting again. A source in the PDP said; “The secret discussions are ongoing with a wing of the leadership of the PDP and this has encouraged the former vice-president to start consultations with critical leaders in the northern and southern parts of the country. However, Atiku has informed the PDP leaders who have approached him to guarantee him the nomination of the party for the presidential election before he can leave the APC, as he does not want to be messed up for the third time,”. http://ogashub.com.ng/why-buhari-chose-to-speak-with-apc-leaders-only-over-nigerians/ President Muhammmadu Buhari who has been on medical vacation to the United Kingdom since May 6, yesterday, July 23, hosted some All Progressive Congress Governors and leaders at the Abuja House in London and a photo proof of the visit hit the media from the Presidency photographers. As reactions have continued to trail the picture as to why the President has not spoken to Nigerians via video since he left over sixty but will rather welcome the APC leaders in London despite controversies about his health, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina gave the reason as owning to the President’s style. In a phone conversation with Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Adesina said this about Nigeria’s ailing President saying Nigerians ought to be conversant with that about Buhari. “It is a matter of personal style, there is no style that you can call ‘the’ style. The style of our president is what you have seen on display and by now two years after he came, I am sure that we should understand him”, Adesina said. “We should know the kind of person he is, we should know how he prefers to do things and that is how the President is. “That just tells you that that is the way our President is, we elected him willingly and we have seen that this is the way he is”, he ended. Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has sought the approval of the house of representatives for the virement (re-allocation) of N135 billion in the 2017 budget to some exigent projects. The request of the acting president was contained in a letter to the lower chamber. The letter was also sent to the senate, but it was not read by Senate President Bukola Saraki before the plenary session of the senate. According to the letter, N3.1 billion will be re-allocated from the ministry of works and housing; N33 billion from the ministry of transportation; N14 billion from the office of the secretary of the government of the federation; N5 billion from the office of the national security adviser, and N5 billion from the ministry of science and technology. Also, N3 billion will be vired from the ministry of defence; N3 billion from the federal capital territory administration, and N 1 billion from the ministry of health. The national assembly had squared off with Babatunde Fashola, minister of power, works and housing, over his claim that the assembly inserted projects into in the budget. But both parties later sheathed their drawn swords. More details soon http://ogashub.com.ng/osinbajo-asks-national-assembly-to-re-allocate-n135bn-in-2017-budget/

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama on Wednesday said there was no evidence of 97 Nigerians being killed by Cameroonian Gendarmes. Onyeama said the 97 deaths represented the accumulation of all the Nigerians that had been killed in previous events in the Bakassi region since 2008. He made the clarification before the House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs, headed by Rep. Nnena Elendu-Ukeje, which is probing the incident. The minister who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr Olusola Enikanolaye, revealed that independent investigation had shown that such killings did not occur. He further explained that the incident started following the deployment in July 2017 of a new Divisional Officer (DO) to Idabato sub- division of Cameroon to administer the Bakassi General Area. “On assumption of office, the new DO commenced the imposition of new taxes on the residents after a meeting with all the chiefs. “Accordingly, all men engaged in fishing and other business activities in the area were to pay N55,000, women. 30,000 and churches N50,000 per annum. “Furthermore, taxes on packets of fish were raised from N200 to N1,000. Butchers were to pay N1,000 per head for goats slaughtered by them. “The sanctions placed on the residents for violation of the tax rules include seizure of their boats and payment of 200 per cent of the initial tax. “This accounts for the N100,000 which was hitherto heralded in the news and initial reports as the amount of the tax to be paid by Nigerians”, he said. He said by the records of the Nigerian Mission, the deaths recorded were not caused by the Gendarmes. He added that some Nigerians fled their homes and headed for the Ikang Jetty “when the new DO threatened to use force. It was while they were on their way that some of them reportedly drowned”. “Unfortunately, the leaders who confirmed these assertions to the team had no corpse of persons drowned in the incident http://ogashub.com.ng/cameroon-did-not-kill-97-nigerians-minister-of-foreign-affairs/
