Mavor: Are there good jobs in Finland if you finish school and is it easy to get one? How is the standard of living there? Are the people warm to foreigners or lots of racists?
start from the begining of this tread, your answer is there.

ronakoks: Same thinh happened to ne. Your sevis ffe hasn't shown up on there data base at the embassy.. Dey don't check femjfee.com for sevis. They have their own data base. It wee reflect. After about 24 to 48 hours. So give your selflike five days and go back. There's nothing like 90% visa approval yet oo.. So don't let your gaurd down because she hasn't interveiwed u yet... Ingact the next time you go back. She may not be the one that willin ;Dtervwew. U... It depends on who ever dey give ur docs to.. Just. Pray its not windo 6vo. .. Na only smaile she dey smile to students she no dey giv like dat.. I think She does it to give u a false sense of approval... So that u think u are talking well... In which case , if u talk trash, she smiles and nodds, so that u keep talking some more trash..... grin

ronakoks: I was at abuja cousulate on monday. I was denied the F1. Was interviwed by one very young, deceptively prettey and calm VO at window 6. They say she's new at the embassy and actually she was taking her time and asking many questions and not really issuing F1, like someone who is trying to be meticulus cos of her inexperience. I hope she's not an intern or somethin at DHS cos there was a point durin my interveiwe wen another young lady came to her boot as if to come check on her to see how shes doin on the job and they were looking at my i2o and bank statement and smiling and nodding there heads at each other and sayin somethin to each other as if in the process of learnin or something. I felt really sad cos i was kinda prepared for this interview. At least i really prepped for the main F1 questions. I cant even totally recall how everything that went down.

VO: Good morning
Me : Good morning Ma ( Even though i think this girl is my age or even younger)

VO: So you want to go and study in the US?
Me: Yes at Xyz State university...

=========================================================================================================================================================
cant really remembered conversation here but it had to do with the course im going for. Msc biology/biological sciences. And i told her My concentration is in cell and molecular biology. I think i stuttered a bit here.
======================================================================================================================================

VO: What kinda research will you wana do in cell and molecular biology?
Me: (was slightly taken a back here but my brain quicky triggered and i just quickly taught of somethin)...... research like Elucidation of the molecular and genetic basis for the developmet of resistance by HIV virus to Currently available therapies ...

VO: nodds and said there are many schools in the US were u can do biology. Did u consider other schools in the US?
Me: Yes, I applied to WTAMU at canyon TX,.. ISU at pocatello, ID and UL at monroe, LA

VO: so who's payin for your study.
Me: Mum

Vo: wat does she do?
Me: bla bla bla

VO: do you have a letter or something from her
Me: Yes I passed her bank statement. ... and she lookeed at it thoroughly, looked at i20 too very well to see how much was balance on statement and cost on i20
(at this point i was starting to have some hope cos the student she interveiwed b4 me didnt even get to the point of sponsor. but I was wrong cos she started with another round of questions)

VO: So were did you do ur undergraduate
Me: Univ of Benin

VO: your major?
Me: Microbiology

VO: When did you graduate? ( this is the part i was hoping wont come up)
Me: finished my final exams in nov 2007 and was awarded degree in june 2008

Vo: What have you been doin since then?
Me: NYSC from 2008 to 2009 and starte workin at my current job in 2010

VO: Where do u work and wat do u do there?
Me: Work at UNi.... of .. teachin hospital.. I work at the HIV treatment center at Uni.... teachin hospita,.. I bla bla bla

Vo: if a pregnant woman is tested hiv positive, what do u do to her?
Me: Explained the normal PMTCT proceedure in our facility to her ( Im not sure if shes satisfied or not.. she just keeps noddin and noddin to and makin eye comunication to the other lady in her boot)

VO: did you do any test to get admission to this school?
Me: Yes. took the gre.. i passed her my score print out ( she looks at it thoroughly and types to check something on her system)

Vo: keeps typing... and asks did you consider any school here in Nigeria
Me: No

Vo: How about any other country?
Me: yes, UK.. cosidered the university of Hull. But curriculum isnt very practical and research oriented because its mainly just course work and this wont provide me hands on learning that i need.

VO: ok and nodds

Vo: Uhmm let me give u ur docs back

she passes my gre and bank staement back and for a split second i though she would just fold my ds160 with my passport in to her box, but eventually she pulls out the white paper that contains section 214b US imigration bla bla bla and said I'm sorry i cant issue u a visa today.

I have paid another visa fee and booked another appointment. Fortunately, these days there are so many available dates on the portal. I was able to book 3rd of january for Abuja. But my school resumes on the 7th so i made an emergency request. On a second thought, I'm considering scheduling my next interview for lagos embassy as there are closer dates for lagos. Moreso, I dont know if it would be better for me to go to lagos embassy since the VO that interviewed, me initially is in Abuja and not Lagos. Cos, even though, I most likely would be interviewed by another vo in abuja, I have a feeling these VOs work together as a team in their office and another VO might be alittle hesitant to revert on the decision that a close colleague has made so recently. But then, when i consider the fact that I have been there twice already( first time SEVIS fee hadnt reflected), and i've heard and know the pattern of question the VOs in Abuja are asking... I would want to go back to Abuja.
I WAS THERE THAT SAME DAY, THAT LADY IN COUNTER SIX DENIED ALMOST TEN PEOPLE, SHE WILL JUST SMILE WITH YOU AND KEEP ON PLAYING WITH YOU, WELL THAT IS HOW A TRAINED PSYCHOLOGIST IS SUPPOSE TO BEHAVE, GUY NOR BE YOUR FAULT, O. EVEN THE LADY AT COUNTER 6 SAY I NOR PAY SEVIS FEE O, APPLY AND GO TO LAGOS TO TRY THEM
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part3 by emmanuelkim: 4:48am On Dec 06, 2012
PLEASE I NEED SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM

I was at Abuja for my interview, I Meet the lady on counter 8, and she greeted me and say pass me your doc, which i did, she just took my Gt receipt and my ds-160 number, then she started to type, what i heard next was shocking, *Mr kim you have not pay your SEVIS Fee, i ask her how, she say it is not showing on their website, the next thing i see, is that she just bring a white slip, but this is not 214b denial, it read

Dear Kim
tocontinue with your non-immigrant visa application, you will need to provide additional documemntation. providing this document is optional, but we cannot complete your case without it, if you wish to proceed, please return to the consular section with this letter and all requested document Monday through thursday, within six months of the date above.

she went further to tick this option

An 1-901 or other evidence that you have paid the SEVIS fee. for more info on SEVIS fees and paymenmt, go to www. fmjfee.com

House what does this mean? because when i went back i check at the SEVIS website and i see my detail on it that i have paid the money, so how come she did not see it?

When i ask her what to do, she say i should go and pay the SEVIS Fee and come back with that white slip she gave to me, i ask her if i am going to book another appointment and pay for Visa application fees, she said no, i just come with the white slip,

THE CONSULAR OFFICERS IN ABUJA ARE NEW PEOPLE DIFFERENT FROM THOSE THAT I SAW IN JULY

HOUSE WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?

imperiouxx: The main reason why long gap between one degree and desire to continue abroad especially US (where studying is like going to war) matters is that the weak in learning hardly survive here (either internationals or Americans). This is the fact, studying in US requires your brain retaining fresh record of your field. That's why VOs believe that standardized test is important even at the slightest gap in applicant's studies. America practices continuation of education with no gap to enhance assimilation, though many of them fall out too.

Secondly, imagine you have been nurtured, indoctrinated for 4 to 5 years in a field and all of a sudden you decided to go contrary to that. Tell me without any bias, if you are a VO won't you like to be convinced beyond any reasonable doubt before you take to the applicant's ideology?

Thirdly, let's say after high school as a science student, I got a sales job for 3 to 5 years, later found myself back in science field at a higher level. Don't you think for the first few semesters, my brain can unconsciously be taking 50 ml(value for volume) to be 50 million naira (value for money) or 2 atm (value for atmospheric pressure) to be 2 ATM (automated teller machine - money dispenser)? Reason is because after one degree, I stopped for awhile and the brain aged everyday keeping only few past imparted memories but mostly the recent.

You see? Many will always fall for these reasons, though role of favor and attack as the best form of defense can't be underrated in those cases. Best of luck
please give me straight answers to the question that i ask, like i said before, i would have apply for the course here but because in Nigeria it is only in master level, so i need to understand the concept more before applying for master

I will also be going soon, but in my last DS-160, I did not put that i have graduated o, it was during the interview that i told the VO That i have a first degree, Also in my last ds-160 i put not employed because i was working for my Dad, but if put it now, will it make any difference considering the fact that my dad do not pay me through but cheque, also i have a Non-registered business in Nigeria, should i put all this in my New DS-160 Form, why am asking all this question, i want to show a strong tie to Nigeria

Please what do you advice my on this bothering question
Abuja embassy is too cold, almost shaking inside, what should i do?
What if the VO ask me that You already have a first degree, why going for a first degree?

This question is failing most of us that have gone before to interview before
what if the VO said 'why do u want to change career?
When Did you finish high school?
What have you been doing?

dr_dolittle: Hey dear..sorry about the denials.

First, I hope no one filed for an immigrant visa for you and I hope you ain't a current winner in the visa lottery stuff.

Just fill out your ds 160 form as carefully and truthfully as possible but make sure all cogent and sensitive data remain as consistent as possible. Do not alter very sensitive data...make sure they are the same with the formerly filled ds 160 forms. How did your first interview go? What were the questions asked of you?

If your passport aint more than 6 months old, then you dont have any need for another.Just hold at least 2 of them.
Try ask your dad to get a bank letter of introduction that states that he is the owner of the account.
Ask your dad to get a letter of employment from his company too(might not be necessary but may be useful in beating all odds).
Make sure the funds in the account well exceeds the amount on the I-20.

You can put on anything that is decent and makes you comfortable.

Please state the documents you have ready, your graduation year, your present occupation and so on and let us make sure you are well groomed for the next interview.

Yvete: I have never posted on this education forum but I feel the need to say a few things to those experiencing difficulties here. I came to the US in 2005, did my undergrad, worked for 2 years and now pursuing my MBA in Texas. *Btw I'm 26 so you know how young I was when I came to the US. Plus, I'm not a nurse nor in the healthcare field.

1. Avoid expensive cities like a plague. (You need a cheap city where you can live comfortably and make excellent grades at school without distractions). For instance, If you like the city of Miami because of its popular beach, take a vacation there. You don't need to reside there permanently. I'm just saying....
Texas is a best friend for new comers. I'll tell you why --- Cheap accommodation. (Roughly about $400 monthly, All bills included plus free transportation to school. I'M NOT ASKING YOU TO MOVE TO TEXAS OH. ITS JUST AN EXAMPLE. Small cities anywhere are less expensive.

2. On-campus jobs are not provided to help pay your tuition --- Do NOT come to the US broke, Period! Have enough funds to cover at least one semester of your stay, in terms of feeding, transportation, etc. During my 4 years as an undergrad, I worked on campus for $8/hr x 20hrs/weekly (plus a lil' overtime). I USED to take home roughly about $640/monthly, but it was enough. Student housing rent for $385 (which my brother still pays here in 2012) and the change for my personal use.

If you need a job on campus, walk into their office and boldly ask for the supervisor. Don't be scared, this ain't Nigeria. Explain that you're an Intl student in dire need of a job. Make sure you've applied on-line and take a copy of your application. Prepare a resume with part-time experiences in Nigeria (For females, maybe babysitting experience, part-time secretary & for males, part-time Admin Assistant). Basically you need a resume that highlight basic communication skills, computer use, team-player skills and time management). Nigerians are usually timid, i think!

3. NEVER buy new textbooks. Shop for textbooks on ebay, amazon or craigslist. Wait till a week after school to find out what books your professors need. Some will give you handout and not really care about the books. There is also a book rental service at your schools' bookstore. Take advantage of that as well. PLEASE TRY TO MAKE EXCELLENT GRADES ..C is unacceptable. A's & B's only.

4. You need a laptop. If you don't have one, use the desktop at the library. I didn't buy a laptop till the next semester, but I was ok. November Thanksgiving sale is around the corner, you can get a cheap brand new laptop for about $399. Save for that if you can. That's the only time I purchase electronics.

5. Education is the US is all about time management! Learn to prioritize. Don't spend money on phone cards calling "Friends" in Nigeria. CUT SPENDING: Avoid eating out as much as possible. Cook noodles, noodles and noodles! Ramen is your best friend. Look for cheap grocery stores and cook! cereals, noodles, rice, chicken...basically, do not spend money eating out. It wont help if you're struggling financially.

6. Look for cheap housing on craigslist.com . You'll find people looking for students to sub-lease a room from their homes (choose wisely), or students looking for roommates, or people that are dropping out of school and need someone to take over the contract for housing. Trust me, you'll find amazingly awesome deals there.

7. BE FREAKING PATIENT! I graduated with Intl. business and it took a whole year for a company to hire/sponsor me to get a work authorization. It was rough but now I'm living comfortably in Houston. If your family struggled to send you here, do NOT equate yourself with children of those that got millions to shut down a nightclub. Be frugal and stingy to yourself, IF NEED BE.

8. A city with a lot of Africans or Nigerians will help you. You will be able to familiarize yourself with other Nigerians and could get help. They can always hire you ----- you know what i mean----- even without your ------- because many people here run private businesses. As a student, I've always worked under the ------- and has nothing to do with my social --- number. Look for Nigerian owned small businesses and Do NOT tell them that you've got the ----- s---y number. Be honest about your status.

9. If you're in an expensive city, spend one semester and TRANSFER TO A COMMUNITY COLLEGE. Unless you're a dummy or if you can afford it, that's fine. Houston Community College averages less than $2000 per semester for 12 hours(4 courses). Who wouldn't take advantage of that? After 2 years, you can transfer to your intended university. I did it and can guide you if you need help.

10. All my 4 siblings live in this city and life is easy for everyone. Its best to go where you know somebody. 5 of us, each coming from Nigeria one after the other is a success. Look for an old school friend (they might not help you financially, but guide you and introduce you to other Nigerians). I knew 4 Nigerian guys that shared a 2 bedroom condo years back and they were fine. It was the party place and regular hang out spot for us...fun times xx. You might end up paying less than $300 monthly, all bills included. Talk to your friends and ask if they're willing to share. IF YOU'VE GOT ANGER ISSUES,INTOLERANCE, ETC...Just STAY BY YOURSELF TO AVOID WAHALA!

11. If you intend to live/work in the US after graduating, please get a very solid degree. Theatre arts, communication, marketing...sounds good, but it would be almost impossible for a US Company to sponsor you for a work authorization/green card. Medical field, technology and business are great. I majored in International Relations but my business MINOR is my saving grace. You need a degree that markets you to potential employers. When you settle comfortably in the US, look for unpaid volunteer positions, community service and free internships. That's another gateway to building a solid resume.

I'm kinda tired of typing ...lol. If anyone has questions with finding jobs, school transfer, etc,....holla! I think every necessary info. has been listed on this thread since part 1. THERE ARE OTHER EMPLOYMENT OPTIONS THAT I CANT WRITE HERE. PM me if interested.
What a brotherly love, thanks

king1_00: Just Passing by.

Wishing everyone applying for visa come fall success, especially my man deeverick, you shall testify. For those applying to community college or what have you, sincerely i used to think that the school you apply to can decrease your chances of getting a visa but thats a big lie. I know of more than 5 different people that applied to a community college this year and currently in the US. As a matter of fact i was on a flight with one of them he applied to a community college in Vegas. I sincerely do not know the criteria for a visa, but in my own opinion, community college is not what everyone says it is here. I applied to a private school in Ohio that nobody knows not even the VO and i was given my visa. My 2 cents pls complete your DS 190 form in a very professional and coordinated manner, cus thats all they gat on you. I hate to say this but luck also comes into play. A new Nigerian student joined me in my school early this week and trust me when i say this, if this guy could get a visa, all nairaland should also get one.

May the good Lord guide your steps and lead you the the right VO that will issue your visa My 2 cent.

For those currently in the US pls before yo make any serious crucial decision, call your relative in the US or a nairalander. Knowledge is power. I am adjusting very fine so far because i have a brother and a sister down here.

All is well that ends well, the struggle is not over. US is another set of struggle, trust me because the people here are totally different, or maybe its just state, dont know.
Thanks King

1. Have You travel out Of niaja B4? YES, Where? Togo ( but i did not stamp my passport because) If he ask me why what would i say, cn i tell him that Togo is a Visa free or what? I just need to have a travelling Experience,

2. Which country can u go without spending more than 20k(Plus Visa)

3. Is Toefl compulsory For Undergraduate? what about if your admission officer gave u a cover up letter, will the embassy honour It?

4. Am currently working As an ICT supervisor in school and also assisting a lecturer(but no cash o), but I read Agricultural science Education, In my last DS-160 Form that I submitted to Abuja I put not employed, During my interview in July 2012, The VO did not ask me about my last/ current JOB.I will be going back to Abuja for spring interview, please do I need to put employed in my new ds-160 form? but what I need to know is should I put that I am working? As the salary is as low as nothing, or should I put it as it technician, please advise me, but my dad is still the one sponsoring me and all document remain the same

Got to the embassy about 9:00. Was suppose to call my man lanre paddy but my phone was off. We dey oustide dem dey search us . Dem sha usher us inside, na him we thumbprint and all that. Started studying all the Vo's. Counter 1 a young white male was the best mehn, him sabi speak yoruba sef. Counter 4 a young white guy made a lot of brain too one young white dude, him dey give visa as long as you know wetin you won go do. Counter 6 a black american lady, she can ask questions well She will tackle you well before she gives you. As i still dey study them na him counter 7 from no where call me.

VO - Mr abc(addressed me by my surname) bring up your case.
Me- Mr name is xyz and i intend to go to the US to earn my masters degree in forensic psychology with a concentration in psycholingustics.
VO : why forensic psychology
Me : as a behavioural scientist i have come to the understanding that that crime rate in my country is on the increase due to the fact that we have a faulty inefficient justice system( gave example of boko haram and all these politicians wey dey theif money) so nigeria needs all professiosionals to fight issues of terrorism and make sure justice is served.
VO : but why this school
Me : the school of criminal justice in xyv uni versity is made of a faculty with professional background and expertise, as part of the faculty members we have ex US marines, fbi, and cia so i gain real world experience. Also student faculty ratio is 20:1 which gives me the chance to interact better with my professors.
VO: what plan do you have after the degree
Me: join the Nigerian Military
Vo: what will you do for them .
Me: work with the DIA(defence intelligence agency)
Vo : ok good. Did you do the GRE
Me : yes, gave him
Vo :read thru, and passed it back. Who is sponsoring you.
Me : my dad
VO : what does he do
Me : he is a businessman. We run a family business in automobile and i'm one of the directors
Vo : can i have his financial document and a letter from him.
Me : gave him, he read through.
Vo : he started typing for like 2 mins, my heart don cut. I was just wondering what he was typing. So how long is your program( at this point he brought out the green slip already).
Me: 24 months.
Vo: ok so pick your your visa on monday and make sure you take your i20 along and travel before the date on it blah blah blah.
Me: thanks.

Note: in my own personal reasoning. If you really plan to study and have a passion for your cousre you will definitely get it. Also please do standardised test oh, my man lanre got it today without it, but please do it. Undergraduates were given so were graduate applicants. Know your course well have a reason for choosing your school and of course please try God He doesn't fail.

Abeg which flight oh is it air royal or what @imperiousxx and baiyewu abeg help oh.
Thanks dude, This is God works, please thank God, please greet imperious our chairman

emmanuelson20: Hi guy(s), sorry for the denial, you would get it next time, be strong! As a fellow in the house rightly pointed out. The problem has to do with the financial statement you presented in terms of the "person sponsoring you & the amount". I think #10million is too low while the person sponsoring you is not related to you but your dad's friend which doesn't seem alright. Why not your dad? 2 Options i have for you, (1) If you must still use your family friend's bank statement, the cash must at least double the initial one & try to get a letter written by him confirming his friendship/relationship with your dad & you in particular & get a notary officer sign & stamp it. You can get this done @ the Ikeja high court or any reliable one close to you. (2) Try to use a Bank Statement that has your surname, either your dad or mum with at least double of the initial amount. I think this is the best option. Be calm & work things out. Hope this works. Peace.
I Have been following this guy interview, but like what emmanuel said is too basic fact, why would your daddy friend be sponsoring when you dad is still alife,Do not forget that those people are highly trained psychologist o, 10Millions, hahaha, watin self. what will 10 million do in us university? please next time double it and state that it is your dad that owns the account or if you are still going with your dad bossom friend then change it to be your uncle and ready to cover up, because the VO Would like to establish a strong tie there too, just read all the thread and pick the one that suite yourself,m shallom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
