SO VO CAN CHECK YOUR STATUS ON FACEBOOK AND ALSO VISA LOTTERY STUFF?

Nairalanders please i need your candid opinion:

is it advisable to book appointment for spring 2013 on January 2, or i should book it NOV/DEC 2012? This is because i have not written the TOEFL exam

But my school stated it clearly on my 1-20 form that the student has the required English proficiency and also the international admission officer send me a back up mail to take the embassy for that effect, will the consular officer honor this e-mail letter or i should Go and write the exam, why am asking is that the school said when i arrive, they will set an exam for me to take there.

Do the us consular in Abuja have slot for students, and does they time they give student visa?

A friend of mine whose school does not need TOEFL, and the guy was going for masters was rejected on the ground of TOEFL,won't they still use that as a creteria toooooo, but am going for undergraduate shaaaaaaa

bigfrancis21: TOEFL can be registered and written in any of these four states in Nigeria - Owerri, Port-Harcourt, Lagos and Abuja. Depends on where you're close to.
If Lagos, you can go to:
Study Abroad Institute,
16 Olaolu Street, College bus stop, Isolo,

F-1 visa: how does a visa officer think
1. Show me your GRE score card?
Purpose: The Visa Officer wants to see your academic abilities.
Good Answer: Just show with a smile, looking in his/her eyes, no need to talk.
Bad Answers: I do not have my GRE score report/ I never took the GRE test.


2. Why do you want to study at Univ xyz?
Purpose: The Visa Officer wants to see your preparedness and focus on studies.
Good Answers: Prestigious University with world ranking, Research areas match my interest/ I have funding.
Bad Answers: Low fees/ My brother is in the same city.


3. Where all did you apply?
Purpose: The Visa Officer is trying to analyze whether your purpose is studying or somehow reaching USA.
Good Answer: I applied to A, B, C and D. – Whatever is the honest answer. If applied to more than 5, can mention 5.
Bad Answer: I applied only to this university A, where I am admitted [Rejection imminent, unless that university is very famous]


4. Do you have any relatives in USA?
Purpose: The Visa Officer is trying to analyze your ties to USA.
Good Answers: My elder brother / Nobody [whatever is true]. You should not mention cousins or uncles. Only mention direct relations, eg, Parents, Siblings, Spouse, as per the visa questionnaire.
Bad Answer: My second cousin and his friend live in USA.


5. What are your future plans?
Purpose: The Visa Officer is trying to analyze your ties to your own country.
Good Answer: Work in my country as….
Bad Answers: Work in USA/ I have not thought. [You are perhaps lying, but truth will lead to certain rejection - Sorry, this is how the system is designed]
Above is the only example where we advise to tell what is expected answer, not necessarily the truth. VO is legally bound to reject the visa if you say I want to work in the USA. They know that most people do not come back.


6. Who is paying for your education?
Purpose: The Visa Officer is trying to see if you can afford the education, else you will work illegally and stick around in USA.
Good Answesrs: Got a RA/ My father will pay out of his savings.
Bad Answers: Bank Loan/Sell property. Any fraud answer.


7. What is your area of research?
Purpose: The Visa Officer wants to see your preparedness and focus on studies.
Good Answer: True and simple short answer.
Bad Answers: Vauge answer, Not decided yet, too generic answer, example, I want to do research in Electrical Engineering.


8. Show me your degree certificate?
Purpose: The Visa Officer wants to see your authenticity. They sometimes look at the degree across the light, in a way some people check the authenticity of a currency note/bill.
Good Answer: Just show with a smile, make eye contact, no need to talk. Provisional degree is acceptable.
Bad Answers: No degree or even provisional/temporary one. Degree in a non-English language, unless that is very common in your country.


9. Why do you want to go to USA?
Purpose: The Visa Officer is trying to analyze your ties to USA.
Good Answers: Top universities in the world, exposure to current developments and research. Opportunity to experience the diverse culture alongwith top quality education.
Bad Answers: Going to USA is a childhood dream. US is a great country, I like USA a lot. I love US Dollars.


10. How many brothers and sisters do you have?
Purpose: The Visa Officer is trying to analyze your ties to your own country.
Good Answer: True answer. Never hide existence of siblings wheter they live in your own country or USA.
Bad Answer: Any false answer.

Hello Naira landers, Please I need an answer to this questions, please put yourself in my shoes to give me a concrete solution,
Am currently working As an ICT supervisor in school and also assisting a lecturer(but no cash o), but I read Agricultural science Education, In my last DS-160 Form that I submitted to Abuja I put not employed, During my interview in July 2012, The VO did not ask me about my last/ current JOB.I will be going back to Abuja for spring interview, please do I need to put employed in my new ds-160 form? but what I need to know is should I put that I am working? As the salary is as low as nothing, or should I put it as it technician, please advise me, but my dad is still the one sponsoring me and all document remain the same
Or should I put my poultry as where I work? What about if the VO ask me what I be doing since what would I say, am saying this because
1. The salary is too small and no pay slip to show, but even in my current job is even no pay slip too
2. In my last DS-160, I put Not employed,
Please advise me, My reschedule interview that I book was in October, I cancel it because when I called the international advisor, the lady said that October interview for spring is too early and moreover they have not re-sent my new I-20 form, please should I fill January 2 2013, If they might give us free as after the break or should I use November 2012, please I need your advice

The interview was so short,the VO was typing MOST of the time. He rarely looked at me.
I was asked just 4 questions-
1)Why Public Health?
Me- I have a passion to serve people, and improve the quality of health for those around me, rising need for public health specialists in Nigeria, etc
2)Who is sponsoring you?
Me- My Dad
3)What does he do?
Me- An engineer
4)What work do you do?
Me- A dentist
I answered fully. No documents were asked. After a long period of typing, he just said, Sorry....and that was all.
I was denied last year also. Same course, though a different school. So this year, I applied to a less expensive, but equally good school.
I have re-applied and will be going soon.
A few questions-
--Im trying to fill a new DS 160, but there is really nothing to change. I filled to first one as carefully, and truthfully as I could.I do not know how else that form could be filled.
--Do I need to snap a fresh passport? I still have copies of the passport I submitted last month.
--How about wearing a good sweater this time around. I felt too cold the other time.
--The 'remarks' section on my I20 says 'all funding subject to Consular Verification' Abeg apart from bank statements, what other 'verification' would they need?
--What else can I do, guys?

Even me was disqualified at Abuja this July, so i ask the Guru here and there gave me solution to my problems, but what i noticed that even b4 the VO Ask me i was shaking, when i came out from the embassy i was just laughing, when i got home i was just receiving a lot of calls, i told them they were trying to console me, i told them this first experience. i can never give up like that

Guys, please your early responses go a long way in getting you the visa.note my first answer,I covered 3 questions and after the second question he has already make up his mind to issue the visa.
Please know your major very well and be technical to dazzle the VO because its ur chance of educating the VO.

leadzeal: Though this claim is controversial it's likelyhood is plausible. I will agree with the notion that the embassy as a whole as a target quota for each specified period of time( I.e fall,summer,spring,...). But refering this said 'quota' to each VO, dat I can't firmly affirm or even debate due to the limitation of my knowing. But since u hinted sth abt a 12 yrs research thingy, can u please throw some light to it if u can. It will help d hus

larondo2012: Any ideas how one can get an earlier VISA date. I applied for emergency and was denied, selected early date option and date was moved forward from aug 27th to 14th. Called the contact centre agent who said he has selected early date option again and asked me to keep checking. I have been checking for a while now and the date hasn't been moved from august 14th. Can I reapply for emergency and is there any other way to get an earlier date.

Please I don't know what u mean, i am booking appoinment for ma friends, and in Abuja the date are from NOVEMBER 01 - JANUARY 2013, and in Lagos it is from September to December 2012, But do you know the funniest thing is that in Abuja where i booked the first one, i opt in to receive an earlier appointment but i got fro Nov where i book earlier but i cancel and re-book, man what i mean is that mine is working for easy for me, i don't know how you are doing yours but mine is working well,I even cancelled one and re-book today, i even opt in, and they reschedule it later in today too. But which embassy are u going?

WARYZ: yes it is very well genuine,if u rememba vividly when u where sheduling ur appointment date,when u got to dat part where you see something like a calender where u now choose a date,dere is a note below stating that your interview date can be shifted 14 days forward if you check the box beside it.so the gist now is dat ,mayb u checkd(clicked in the box) the box.Mine too was like dat,I was sheduled for beginning of august,and I later got a mail confirming that my appointment date had been sheduled for middle of july.

Why dont you get a letter of employment from an Agric related company or an id card from an Agric related firm cos I dont know how IT related to Agric o..The VO might ask you to correlate them both.I dont think you should change your job status cos the VO might wonder how you got a job within the brief period between your interviews..And besides, he might ask for your pay slips too.Maybe the gurus can help our guy out o.

dr_dolittle: Brov..what exactly do you wanna update? If it seems personal, just give us a hint.Cos there are some things you must not alter... cos their alterations might cause u some yawa during the next interview.Remember they have the record of your past ds-160 form.

Imperriousxx: You can update but don't contradict your vital info ooo like don't say single before and now say married or you're a graduate to nongraduate. Just a piece of advice. Within 2 days, you shouldn't have anything changed on your info.

Thanks My chairman imperiousxx and Dr_dolittle, In My 1st DS-160 Form, i put Not employed because working with my dad and now am undergoing IT Training in computer as computer administrator of which i read Agricultural science Education, In my last DS-160 Form, i put not employed, should i change the status of not employed to employed?

No Date in Abuja and Lagos, the available date in Lagos is from sept -Nov and Abuja is Nov - January 2013

imperiouxx: The bold statements ain't good at all.

Google alone isn't a good place to determine your interest about any school.

Your choice of biotech is too vague - c'mon as a graduate and scholar, much is expected from you about your choice of career. Imagine I ask you how would I move a car from one point to the other? Can you say ''You, inside the car, move the car''?

Biotechnology is far far more than the uses of microbes in production alone.

Why do you choose going for an undergraduate again after you've got your first degree?

Lost of confidence to the extent of shaking and stammering exposed your unpreparedness.

Sure both fields ain't by any chance related. Even with that, if you're sharp in your responses and know the right answer to knock him off, he would have been convinced you are genuine. You should have envisaged that question long before the interview and should have been your concentration.

Asking if you can change your field shows that you don't even mean to study that biotech in the first place. Really, if you've got that visa and start that course, you'd have find it hard if not impossible to survive in such field without any solid background in it.

If changing it is the best to you, since you can differentiate between what's right or wrong then do so and work on your lapses.

Re-apply where ever closer to your house.
