Technology Market / 5 Things To Consider When Making A Website by emmaprog: 5:30am On Dec 07, 2016
For any new businesses, it is important to have a presence online. One of the first steps in your marketing of your company should be setting up a website. The website could be your first contact point with your customer. Therefore, it should be of high quality and appeal to the masses. Here are 5 essential things that your website should contain to best reach out to potential and existing customers.

1. An Easy-to-understand tagline

First step to any marketing strategy is to have a positioning statement. That can come in the form of a tagline. A website should compliment your overall brand strategy, supporting clear ideas you’ve identified as the primary message of your brand. So come up with a tagline for your brand and make sure its easy to understand. That’s the first thing you will need on your website.

2. Find a good website developer

Creating a website is easy. There are many tools and guides for you to help you to create your own webpage all by yourself. However, creating a good and reliable website requires skill and expertise. It would be wise if owners source for a skilled web developer who have a good portfolio and experience in developing websites. They can better serve to your personal needs and requests. To find such web developers conveniently, business owners can visit third party platforms like ThunderQuote.

3. An obvious call to action

Many websites fail in this aspect, not clearly asking for the sale. You need an explicit and obvious call to action on your website and it should be a request to place an order from your dominant revenue stream. And if your dominant revenue stream requires consultation, it should be a request to make an appointment. This should come in the form of a tangible button on your website, one that stands out explicitly. Use bright colors and ensure it is conveniently placed.

4. Testimonies/ Reviews of your Product or service

The purpose of your website is not for your own company, but it is primarily for current and potential customers. Always have your customer in mind when creating your company’s website. 88% of consumers trust online reviews as much as personal recommendations. Display how your service/product has satisfied your customers prominently to reap the benefits of a good reputation of your company.

5. Categorisation of your product and services

Your list of product and services should be easy on the eye. It should be simple and convenient. Consumers do not like to have as much choice as you think. If you do have a wide array of products and services, break it down and categorise it precisely so that your consumers can find the service they want easily. Create a website that does not overwhelm your customer, but rather, invites your customer with an user friendly experience. Convoluted websites that are hard to navigate could even deter customers from returning to your website!

Technology Market / Tips For Creating Functional Mobile Responsive Website Experience by emmaprog: 9:43am On Nov 29, 2016
The need for a website to be mobile-friendly is undeniable. Mobile has already overtaken desktop in the number of users, and Google has made no bones about the fact that it awards sites that are mobile friendly. For business owners hoping to make the most of their online presence, it is a matter of necessity to make their websites mobile-friendly.

Many website owners believe this means merely making their interfaces smaller to accommodate the size constraints of the typical mobile device, be it a smartphone or a tablet. The fact is, mobile sites works differently from desktop sites.

Mobile has far more limitations, such as dependence on a battery, wireless connectivity, and of course screen space. Functionality does not always easily translate in a smaller screen. In most cases, a mobile-friendly design requires a certain differentiation. Here are some approaches to mobile design you should consider.

Mobile-First

Many website developers today design for mobile use first, and then desktop. Because of the screen size limitations, they quickly learned that less is more, and to keep minimal features in the design. It is a matter of focusing on important aspects of the site, and enabling users to easily execute key tasks that would benefit the business.
The key to this mobile first approach is to identify the main categories, prioritize them, and then design for the smallest screen first. You can add more elements (in order of priority) as you move up the screen sizes.
Simple Menus and Navigation

Menus and navigation elements are as important with mobile as it is on desktop. However, the typical menu bar in a desktop site is way too big for a mobile site, so in most cases it is better to use a hamburger icon (which is easily recognizable) or a drop down accordion menu and place it on the top right or left of the screen.

Multilevel menus also present a problem in mobile, because users normally will not want to go through several taps to access what they need. The maximum would be two taps before a user will abandon the site, in contrast to the lengths to which a user will go through on a desktop site.

The trick is to show only the most important parts of your website, those that your users are most likely to want or need. Avoid putting too many options and widgets on your page.

Value Creation

It is true that a mobile-version of your website is a must if your business wants to tap into the mobile market. It will certainly help with optimizing your site for search engines. However, your mobile app itself may not get any traction with your users if they cannot find any value in it.
Your mobile app or site should bring something to the table for the end user to motivate them to download and install it, or to bookmark it. This includes making it easier to pay for something, getting a discount, or obtaining vital information quickly. Banking, communications, and newsfeeds are typically useful mobile sites that most people use on a daily basis.

You should strive to create that kind of value for your business for mobile users. If you are able to create value for your mobile app, then all your efforts in designing and creating the mobile site or app will not be in vain.
Keep Your Layout Liquid

You might think that you can design your mobile website for a fixed 320-pixel break point (which is the most common size for mobile) and call it good, but the fact is mobile has a wide range of dimensions, from 176 to 600 pixels.

You need a liquid layout so that it will adjust fluidly no matter the dimensions of the mobile screen. You need a mobile design defined in percentages instead of a fixed number of pixels so that it will not matter what mobile device the user has. The site will be responsive, which is what you want for ease of use.

Touchscreen Functionality

Most mobile devices nowadays use touchscreens, and users are used to interacting with them in that manner. Designing a mobile site is thus more challenging, because you need to account for differences in finger sizes, textures, and pressure in order for the screen to respond accurately.
You have to make sure that all elements that require a user’s input such as buttons and forms are large enough and do not overlap. You cannot rely on the use of styluses or keypads that some older mobile devices may have.

You can use the swipe and pinch functions standard in many mobile devices to help you with your design. You can put in more clickable elements that way.

User Centricity

The key to designing your mobile website is to keep the user in mind. You need to follow certain patterns to improve the user experience. These include:

Keeping controls big and at the bottom of the screen, to make it easier for the user to see content and manipulate them as necessary.
Making it easy for the user to find what they need.
Keeping all the elements intuitive and consistent, so users won’t have a hard time trying to figure out how to use the site.
Minimizing the need for user input, using auto-correct whenever possible, and supporting the use of a landscape orientation.
Using default values to pre-populate forms.
Feature Utility

Mobile devices have limitations, but they also have features you will not find in a desktop. These include slide to unlock, GPS, gestures, gyrometers, and location services. You can use these mobile-specific features to enhance the user’s experience with your app.
Keep on Task

Many mobile users may get interrupted while they are on a mobile site or app, forcing them to close it without completing a task. It could be a call coming in, the boss comes in, or the light turns green.

In any case, it is important to make sure that your user can pick off where they left off upon opening the site or app again. You can design it so that it is easy and quick to restart the site or app, and your users will appreciate it.

Conclusion

A mobile site or app caters to the growing need of users to be on the go without sacrificing access to their favorite websites. However, designing a responsive and engaging one is not as easy as it sounds. Certain limitations and features of mobile devices pose a challenge for web designers that want to make the user experience seamless and positive. These tips can guide you in creating a true mobile functional design for your business.

Technology Market / Tools, Tips And Tricks For Improving Website Page Load by emmaprog: 11:10am On Nov 28, 2016
Do you want your website to load faster? After all, most Internet users are impatient. If your website does not load at a satisfactory rate, you will end up losing traffic. In fact, Google even considers page speed to be a decisive factor in search engine rankings. Naturally, it is not just beneficial but even mandatory to have a website that loads blazing fast.
Let us take a look at some simple steps that you can take in order to speed up your website.

The Groundwork

Before you actually start using any tools to improve the page load times for your website, you need to figure out how your website fares in terms of page speed.
Basically, a website takes time to load if there are various HTTP requests made to the server. The longer such requests take, the slower your website will load. Examples of such requests include loading of scripts, images, stylesheets, and so on.

In order to understand and analyze your website’s page speed performance, you can use tools such as Google PageSpeed or Yahoo! YSlow. Both of these tools help you optimize your website and improve page load times.
Another really useful tool is GTmetrix, which uses both Yahoo! YSlow and Google PageSpeed to analyze your website’s speed and offer recommendations and suggestions for the same. You can download your results in a PDF file, and there are separate tips and recommendations for WordPress websites.

Compressing and Scaling Images

No matter how big or small or website is, at some point or the other, you will make use of images. Maybe you upload an image as a Featured Image with each blog post, or probably you offer screenshots with your tutorials. If this is the case, you should consider compressing your images for web quality. Google PageSpeed has a default image compressor, though for all practical purposes, I find TinyPNG.org to be the most useful. It works only with PNG files, and all you need to do is upload your images, and it will compress them and offer you the compressed versions for download.

Caching and CDN

Using cached versions of static content to speed up your website has been in vogue for quite some time now. You can start with browser caching, though you should also implement certain other site-wide steps. You may even try Alternative PHP Cache if you are not on a shared host (most web hosts disable it on shared servers since it has server-side effects).

If you are using a CMS such as Joomla! or Concrete5, you already have caching and other features built-in and you just need to activate and configure them. For WordPress users, the best step is to install and use a caching plugin. I will keep this one short and simple: SpeckyBoy has a guide to help youchoose the best caching plugin. I personally use Hyper Cache Extended.
A Content Delivery Network, or CDN, can go a long way in improving the page load times of your website. Simply put, a CDN has a global infrastructure of servers that can not only help in reducing the load on your web host but also increase page speeds by dynamically serving content from the servers that are closest to the visitor’s location. If yours is a busy website with a lot of visitors and media content, you should consider investing in a CDN. The options are plenty, and you should choose one that suits your needs (once again, SpeckyBoy hasgot your back on this too). SpeckyBoy uses MaxCDN, which integrates well with W3 Total Cache plugin for WordPress.

CSS Sprites, JavaScript

If your page loads slow on account of multiple images, you can cut down this number by combining images into CSS Sprites. In easier words, a CSS Sprite is a combination of multiple images put together to form one image. Say, for example, instead of having your web browser load five different images; you can make it load just one using a CSS Sprite. The easiest way to accomplish the same is via SpriteMe, a free tool that lets you create CSS Sprites.

Apart from that, you can also decide to defer the parsing of JavaScript. Ideally, JS should be called at the end of an HTML document, because if JS is present at the top of the document, it can slow down the rendering of the page. You can use the “defer” attribute to defer the parsing of the JavaScript until the page has been loaded,

Additional steps that you can take include combining JavaScript and CSS files. If you are using a CMS, the chances are that your website will rely on various CSS and JS files, which can invariably slow down the load times. You can combine such scripts and stylesheets into larger files and improve page speed.

Technology Market / Easy Ways To Get Advertisers On Your Blog Site by emmaprog: 11:59am On Nov 27, 2016
If you're just getting started on the internet--or simply looking for ways to add new revenue streams to your business--you might be considering accepting ads for other companies' products on your website.

Who wouldn't like to make a few extra money without any effort?
You just put up a few ads on your site and wait for the cash to roll in, right?

To make your site attractive to companies looking for ad space, you'll need to have a great niche market, tons of traffic and the promise of good ad placement on your site. However, if you don't have all these elements in place yet, there are still ways for you to make money from ads on your site. The easiest--and often the most successful.

1. Promote an affiliate product on your site.
Joining another company's affiliate program is one of the simplest ways to get started with internet advertising. While affiliate links aren't technically ads, they allow you to make money by promoting someone else's product. As an affiliate, you earn a commission each time someone you've referred makes a purchase. To encourage sales, you might post a banner on your site that links to the affiliate site or publish a newsletter article about their product.
Also note that different affiliate programs offer different payout options.Choose wisely

2. Use targeted advertising with Google AdSense.
Google's AdSense program allows you to make money advertising on your site by placing targeted text ads generated by Google on your pages. The ads appear in rectangular boxes running down the side or across the bottom of a web page with the words "Ads by Google" over the top. These ads are paid for by businesses that use Google's pay-per-click program, AdWords. These ads reflect the content on your site, so if your site sells a book on how to recognize authentic baseball cards, for example, the ads that appear on your site might be for baseball card retailers.
As a Google AdSense publisher, you earn money every time a visitor to your site clicks on one of the AdWords ads on your site. If you're getting a lot of targeted traffic--and if these visitors are interested in the products being advertised--that could mean a healthy new source of extra income for you.
Google ads don't work for all sites, so if you add them, be sure to test them. You don't want to lose credibility with your target market.

3. Approach companies directly to ask if you can advertise for them.
If your site is already getting lots of traffic, try looking for sites that offer complementary products and target the same niche market as you do. For instance, if you own a bridal shop, you could approach a local florist to see if they'd like to advertise their wedding bouquets on your site. An ad on your site would also be seen as an implicit recommendation of their product, and it could send a ton of brides to their site. And the more successful your ads are, the more you can charge for them.

Be sure to contact potential internet advertising partners in a professional manner. Call them on the phone instead of just e-mailing them so your communication is more personal and professional. Be ready to supply them with information about your business and your site traffic. The more information you can give them, the more likely they'll be to consider your offer. And above all, make sure they have a solid reputation. If you partner with a questionable company, their activities could reflect poorly on your business.

4. Sign up for a blog-specific ad program.
If you have a blog, consider signing up to feature blog-specific ads on your site. The key is to consider the kinds of ads your target audience will find valuable. Here are some great ways to attract advertisers to your blog:
Google's AdSense
Crisp Ads
Amazon Associates
BlogAds or AdBrite

Once you do discover the internet advertising strategies that work best for your site, you can try promoting another product, and then another. Soon, all those added revenue streams will combine to swell your profits.

Technology Market / The Psychology Of Color In Web Design by emmaprog: 9:43am On Nov 25, 2016
According to statistics, it only takes 1/10th of a second for us to form a first impression about a person; and websites are no different. First impressions do matter. The first impression a user gets from your website depends on many factors, such as the structure, the spacing, the fonts and, of course, the colors and color combinations you display on your page.

What is color psychology?

The human brain plays a major role in color perception. In fact, although we tend to think of color as a physical object, it is actually a psychological phenomenon. Scientific research suggests that our perception of color is controlled much more by our brains than by our eyes.

The relationship between colors and the human brain is a complex one. Not only are colors perceived in the brain, but they also deeply affect our psyche. Experts claim that people subconsciously associate specific colors with specific social or cultural messages. A study published in the Journal of Business Research has revealed that customers are actually 15% more likely to return to stores with blue color schemes than to those with orange color schemes, thus proving that colors affect not only our thoughts and feelings but also our actions.

Color psychology relies on a mixture of scientific, psychological and cultural propositions. In fact, how we react to colors is determined both by universal evolutionary traits and by our specific cultural background.

Researchers claim that the way we associate certain colors to specific feelings or events is partly the result of evolution. For instance, very few people choose brown as a favorite color because of its association with rotting produce.

Other color associations are cultural specific and determined by our cultural background. Over time, we learn to associate certain colors with certain feelings and thoughts. For example, in the western world brides wear white and mourners wear black, while in South Africa red is the color of mourning and in India brides wear bright and colorful Saris.

What colors mean

As a consequence of both evolutionary traits and cultural background, the western culture has associated the main colors with the following ideas and feelings.

Red: the color red represents joy, vitality, energy and passion and, in the western culture, it also represents love. However, red can also be associated with aggressiveness and anger.
Green:
green is the color of life and nature and evokes positive feelings in the observer, such as calmness and hope. Also, green stands for generosity, security, harmony, and growth.
Yellow: yellow is the color of the sun. It inspires joy and happiness and symbolizes friendliness and openness and freedom. Yellow can have mood enhancing effects on the observer.
Blue: blue is a cool and relaxing color. It is the color of the sky and the water. It stands for peace, trust and security.

The psychology of color in web design

When designing a website, usability and aesthetics are undoubtedly key elements to consider, but making your website beautiful and easy to navigate is not enough to achieve a first-class conversion rate.

In fact, color coding plays a central role in setting your website up for success. As said, colors and color combination can have a huge impact on how users react to and act on a website.

In general, websites display both neutral colors and main colors. Neutral colors like black, white and grey are usually used for the background, whereas brighter colors are used for details and other foreground elements. In the latest web design though, neutral colors are often very dominant in terms of how much space they take up. Their function is similar to the function of white spaces – that is, they give the reader a break and they enable him to take his time to digest and prioritize the content of the page. Moreover, neutral colors are considered trendy and minimalistic and are associated with progress and technology.

Warm colors like red, yellow and orange are very strong and are used to attract the attention of the observer on specific elements. However, when used too often on a single page, these colors lose their positive associative potential and evoke negative feelings, like aggressiveness and anger. On the contrary, a calming effect is achieved when combining different hues of green and blue. Blue also conveys loyalty and security.

The perception of a specific color also depends on which shade of the color you use. For example, more delicate shades do not usually attract the attention of the user, but they convey a sense of harmony and balance.

Color-coding and buttons

Users are consciously or unconsciously affected by the color-coding used on a specific web page, and they often act according to the feelings they associate with certain colors. Therefore, changing the color of your call-to-action button can often result in a significant improvement in your conversion rate.

A call-to-action button consists of five elements, which should coexist harmoniously and be consistent with the website design. These elements are: form, size, message, placement, and color. All five elements may affect the conversion rate. However, tests have shown that color plays a central role in improving your KPIs. In a case study carried out by Maxymiser, a company achieved an increase of 11% in clicks to the checkout area of their website only by testing color variations.

Researchers claim that bright warm colors, such as red, orange and yellow, have the highest conversion rates. Green is also an excellent option, as most people associate green with the “green light”, thus by clicking on a green button they have the feeling of doing the right thing. Conversely, darker colors like black, dark gray or brown have a very low conversion rate and should be avoided.

Summary

In conclusion, considering the psychological associations evoked by specific colors and design elements in your target audience is a key step in the process of designing a successful website. Notions borrowed from color psychology can help both designer and digital entrepreneurs to make the right decisions during the first stages of the design process, as well as to optimize an already existing website and unlock its unfulfilled potential.

Technology Market / 10 Powerful Things You Didn’t Know About CSS3 by emmaprog: 9:24am On Nov 24, 2016
What’s new with CSS3?

There’s a huge amount of improvements over the last version, like the ability to easily add video and 3D objects to your webpage. But then, all this obvious flashiness is merely the tip of the iceberg.

In fact there’s much more that can be done on this platform. With an ocean of possibilities out there, this post is about the top eleven. Here are some things you can do with CSS3 that you probably overlooked. And if you have your own experience, don’t forget to add a comment in the comments section below.
Backwards compatible

This is actually pretty well known, but I thought I’d put it in here as well. So, before you start wondering whether you’ll have to ditch all that work you did in the previous versions, here’s some good news.

CSS3 is completely backwards compatible with earlier CSS versions. That old site running on a previous CSS version can be reworked with CSS3.
Also, with browsers already compatible to CSS2 and other versions, changes with CSS3 are reflected perfectly as well. And if you just want to add to it and not rework the entire site, that’s ok, it’s all possible!

Note: Keep in mind though, you won’t be getting the added speed benefits everywhere if only a part of your site is built with CSS3.
Independent modules, simplified working

Unlike CSS2 which was comprised of a single document, CSS3 is broken up into many individual modules, improving both functionality and ease of working.

The advantage?

Well, it makes CSS3 a whole lot easier to handle given its complexity. Doing this the CSS2 way, would’ve made things very difficult to manage.

The most important modules include Selectors, Color, Box Model, Backgrounds and Borders, Text Effects, 2D/3D Transformations and user interface.

The old CSS specifications are present too, though they have been split into small functional pieces. This makes handling them much easier. Also, keep in mind that these modules are currently under varied stages of recommendation through the W3C.
Easy to change, easier to view

With the modular structure and new functionalities, CSS3 makes it much easier to make changes. This is possible because individual modules can be easily changed and integrated into the main system.

Finally, this allows independent individual module testing as well, which makes it easier to pin-point issues and make corrections where required.

A major concern of all web designers is on how to easily make the site available on different media and devices. CSS3 improves that adaptability making it easier to view your site on mobile devices or even take an e-reader-friendly approach.
Faster development speed

CSS3 has also managed to set new benchmarks in development speed. Many parts of its functionality now include what used to require a CSS – Javascript combo. This way, time is saved during production, during loading and finally towards the end product. In addition the improved flexibility that comes with the modules reduces turnaround times as well.

The Smashing Magazine compared the speed of website built with CSS to the same one with CSS3. The results are interesting, as CSS3 really pays off when it comes to production and load times.

faster development speed css3 comparison css website speed
Cross browser compatibility and platform independence

Today’s end users have plenty of browser options to choose from. This makes browser compatibility a major challenge for all web developers.

CSS3 enjoys a wider range of browser support, which was not possible before. Moreover, despite CSS3 not being included in the W3C standards, many browsers are offering support to its new features.

Also tools like the CSS3 Generator, provide designers a hassle free design process. Developers are provided with code that is automatically generated with vendor specific prefixes. CSS3 offers a level of platform independence not seen before and is supported by new versions of all the important web browsers.
Better backgrounds

Backgrounds no longer need to be static and boring. What previously needed additional scripting and programming, can now be done easily with CSS3.

Multiple Backgrounds

While CSS3 retains its box model, many new style properties have become a part of the parcel. Multiple background images can be included on a page and layered.

#example1 {
background-image: url (img_flwr.gif), url(paper.gif);
background-position: right bottom, left top;
background-repeat: no-repeat, repeat;
}

CSS3 Background size

The CSS3 background-size property allows to specify the size of these background images. The background image can easily be clipped and sized according to the vision of the designer. Most importantly though, all this can happen dynamically.

css3 background image size

There’s no reason to have all those different backgrounds for different situations anymore. This is a good thing, because with today’s variety of screens sizes, shapes and resolutions, doing things the old way would’ve been a real mess.
borders and text effects

If you’re bored with the standard border variants of solid, double and dashed, CSS3 brings a host of options. An overlooked added feature is the ability to use an image as a border. The CSS3 border-image property allows you to define an image which can be used as a border.

The border-image property takes the image and slices it into 9 sections. The middle section can be stretched or repeated. See example below:css3 border image property example

#star-six {
width: 0;
height: 0;
border-left: 50px solid transparent;
border-right: 50px solid transparent;
border-bottom: 100px solid red;
position: relative;
}
#star-six:after {
width: 0;
height: 0;
border-left: 50px solid transparent;
border-right: 50px solid transparent;
border-top: 100px solid red;
position: absolute;
content: "";
top: 30px;
left: -50px;
}

CSS3 opens doors to a whole range of text effects too. This is possible with the new cross border tool. Another new feature is the drop shadow effect that used to be a real pain to accomplish.

And then there’s the CSS3 multi column module. This is an important feature that allows for content to flow in columns, thus saving users from too much of vertical or horizontal scrolling for content, all done dynamically. Yum!
Playing with images and animation

Before the content catches a reader’s attention, the page layout, quality of images and animation make the first impact. These used to be elements where CSS had limited capabilities and needed Javascript to achieve anything. But things have changed on that front too. Want to make an image look brighter or tone it down?

Well, image filters are available on CSS and you can do that right here, without having to work with any other software. Transitions, gradients and animations often required JavaScript libraries as well, but not anymore.

CSS3 transitions

CSS3 transitions makes it possible to change property values over a given duration quite smoothly. To make use of a transition effect, you must define two things. First the CSS property you want to add an effect to. And the duration of the effect.

The following example shows a red <div> element. The <div> element has also specified a transition effect for the width property, with a duration of 2 seconds:

div {
width: 100px;
height: 100px;
background: red;
-webkit-transition: width 2s; /* Safari */
transition: width 2s;
}

If we now specify a new value for the width property when a user mouses over the <div> element:

div:hover {
width: 300px;
}

Feature testing

CSS3 lends to improved feature testing thanks to its modular structure. Earlier versions needed plenty of testing time as it would be a mammoth task to identify what was causing a certain issue. However, with the new structural break-up, it is now much faster and more efficient.

Testing for individual modules can be carried out and they can then be integrated into the complete system. This in turn would lead to better systems, easy maintenance, low turnaround times and of course, happier clients! Need a new style to match that new trend? No problem! Technology Market / The Purpose Of Technology by emmaprog: 5:34am On Nov 16, 2016
Generally, when technology attempts to solve problems of matter, energy, space, or time, it is successful. When it attempts to solve human problems of the mind, communication, ability, etc. it fails or backfires dangerously.

The Internet handled a great problem of space—it allowed us to communicate with anybody in the world, instantly. However, it did not make us better communicators. In fact, it took many poor communicators and gave them a massive platform on which they could spread hatred and fear. This isn’t me saying that the Internet is all bad—I’m actually quite fond of it, personally. I’m just giving an example to demonstrate what types of problems technology does and does not solve successfully.

The reason this principle is useful is that it tells us in advance what kind of software purposes or startup ideas are more likely to be successful. Companies that focus on solving human problems with technology are likely to fail. Companies that focus on resolving problems that can be expressed in terms of material things at least have the possibility of success.

There can be some seeming counter-examples to this rule. For example, isn’t the purpose of Facebook to connect people? That sounds like a human problem, and Facebook is very successful. But connecting people is not actually what Facebook does. It provides a medium through which people can communicate, but it doesn’t actually create or cause human connection. In fact, most people I know seem to have a sort of uncomfortable feeling of addiction surrounding Facebook—the sense that they are spending more time there than is valuable for them as people. So I’d say that it’s exacerbating certain human problems (like a craving for connection) wherever it focuses on solving those problems. But it’s achieving other purposes (removing space and time from broad communication) excellently. Once again, this isn’t an attack on Facebook, which I think is a well-intention company; it’s an attempt to make an objective analysis of what aspects of its purpose are successful using the principle that technology only solves physical problems.

This principle is also useful in clarifying whether or not the advance of technology is “good.” I’ve had mixed feelings at times about the advance of technology—was it really giving us a better world, or was it making us all slaves to machines? The answer is that technology is neither inherently good nor bad, but it does tend towards evil when it attempts to solve human problems, and it does tend toward good when it focuses on solving problems of the material universe. Ultimately, our current civilization could not exist without technology, which includes things like public sanitation systems, central heating, running water, electrical grids, and the very computer that I am writing this essay on. Technology is in fact a vital force that is necessary to our existence, but we should remember that it is not the answer to everything—it’s not going to make us better people, but it can make us live in a better world.

Technology Market / 6 Tips Successful Bloggers Use To Blog Their Ways To Riches by emmaprog: 6:05am On Nov 15, 2016
Being a full-time blogger is a real career these days. While everyone might claim to be a blogger, very few actually turn their blog into a business that generates revenue. Anyone can start a blog and begin to publish content -- but building an audience that’s large enough to develop it into a brand and business takes a tremendous amount of time and dedication.

1. Start a blog for the right reasons.
Start a blog for the right reason. It may sound cheesy, but there are so many people out there looking to start a blog solely for the purpose of making money, and audiences can see right through that.
Plus, it can take up to a year before you start seeing a return in the form of revenue. Pick a topic you are genuinely interested in writing about -- one that you would be willing to create content around, regardless. Once your audience gets a feel for your writing and passion behind your content, the money will follow.

2. Be authentic and stay consistent.
The great thing about blogging is that you can measure feedback in real time, see what works, what’s popular, what's not and make adjustments. Blogs are not meant to be perfect – but they need to be authentic. If they are not, or are over-produced, the audience senses it and likely won't resonate.
You also can’t start a blog and decide you will post whenever you want and expect it to be successful. Consistency is key. I recommend posting once per week to start, and stick to the same day each week. If you don't have consistent quality content, you will lose your audience fast. Building a community and following doesn't happen over night -- you need to put the time in.

3. Leverage social media for growth.
Leverage social media for growth -- post creative content and use clever hashtags. Be active on a few select social media platforms -- you don't have to be on all of them. You will be more successful using one or two that allow you to really connect with your audience, rather than spreading yourself out too thin across several.

4. Turn your FAQs into a list of blog topics.
A blog is a great marketing tool and a great way to establish yourself as a thought leader in any niche. Create a list of the most frequently asked questions in your industry and answer them in blog posts. This gives you content that will attract the right audience, whom will consider you to be very helpful and knowledgeable. Blogs are a great way to tell your brand story, so take the time to build relationships with your audience and grow a platform that allows you to sell your products and services.

5. Create a blog around a subject you know.
When starting a blog, make sure you are choosing a subject that you are not only truly passionate about, but also extremely knowledgeable about -- it needs to be a topic that you fully understand inside and out.
For example, a wardrobe stylist may consider starting a style blog for those that are interested in learning fashion tips. You need to be able to provide advice or information that your audience will deem as valuable.

6. Identify what makes you interesting.
Your audience is going to connect with you if they find you interesting. Identify the two most interesting things about you -- your blog should focus on where they intersect. For example, if you own a boutique and love love fashion, your blog should reflect that.

If you’re thinking of starting a blog or not happy with your current blog’s performance!!!

Technology Market / Advantages Of A Mobile Friendly Website by emmaprog: 9:10am On Nov 14, 2016
How much time have you spent online today? Of that time, how much of it was via a mobile device like a smartphone or tablet? If you’re like many of us, it’s a lot. While mobile usage has skyrocketed in the last few years, many small businesses have been slow to build a mobile friendly website. I’m hoping that is about to change.

Interesting Mobile Trends you need to know

One-third of cell owners (33%) say that their phone is a smartphone (Source: Pew Research Center)
In a 2013 retailer survey 29% of retailers said more than 20% of their traffic was coming from the mobile web or mobile apps (Source: Marketing Land)
U.S. mobile Web use has doubled since 2009 (Source: CNN)
Smartphones and tablets have nearly doubled the time we’re online in the past 3 years (Source: comScore)
25% of all smartphone owners do most of their online browsing on their mobile phone (Source: Pew Research Center)
Are You Considering Creating a Mobile Friendly Website?

Up until this year mobile friendly websites were a luxury of large brands or companies with big IT budgets. Then a little thing called responsive design arrived and it changed the mobile landscape for the average business.

Responsive web design allows website developers to best utilize the available screen real estate on desktop and mobile devices. The website adapts in layout without removing massive amounts of web content.

What was once considered a costly expenditure is now part of the standard website design project. Businesses no longer have to create two independent websites or pay to support two websites. They can develop one website that simply adapts to accommodate the smaller footprint of mobile devices.

Benefits of Using Mobile friendly (Responsive) Design

Captures more mobile traffic
Captures higher ranking and more search traffic for local terms and phrases
Improves overall bounce rates because it cuts down on mobile user frustration
Avoids duplicate content that can result from managing two websites
Increases online sales (yes people really do buy products off of mobile devices)
Cheaper than developing separate websites for desktop and mobile usage
Saves development time because you create only one website
Provides a consistent user experience across devices (as opposed two multiple websites that look and act differently)
Responsive Design According to Google

Let’s take a look at some quotes directly from Google on the subject.

“Google recommends webmasters follow the industry best practice of using responsive web design, namely serving the same HTML for all devices and using only CSS media queries to decide the rendering on each device.”
Responsive web design “keeps your desktop and mobile content on a single URL, which is easier for your users to interact with, share, and link to and for Google’s algorithms to assign the indexing properties to your content.”
“Google can discover your content more efficiently as we wouldn’t need to crawl a page with the different Googlebot user agents to retrieve and index all the content.”

Technology Market / 11 Common Mistakes You Must Avoid When Building Brand Online by emmaprog: 9:07am On Nov 13, 2016
In these jet age, online presence for business is very important -- if not more than its presence on the street. So why would you compromise your company's integrity by making avoidable mistakes? Here are a few examples of things that can prevent you from making your business successful.

1. You fail to have a vision for your brand.
Feeling confident about your entrepreneurial skills? Think you have the product of the year? Think again. You need to have the product of the century; at least that is the attitude that you should adopt. Don't enter the market half-heartedly. Instead, be confident and bold about where you want to take your business in the years to come.

2. You fail to choose a unique brand name.
You need a truly unique brand to match your ambitious projections. Be sure to research the market so that you are certain no one else already has your brand name, and check that a suitable .com domain is available. Having something unique would get people interested.

3. You fail to get help with your website.
You may be good when it comes to technology, but do you really have time to learn the ins and outs of website building, SEO, etc.? Remember that your main priority is getting the business off the ground, and spending your time sitting in front of a screen is not the best way to drive your vision forward. Leave the technicalities to the experts, and focus on managing the business.

4. You fail to have a backup plan.
It is very common for people, even business owners, to undervalue their data. "It won't happen to me," you may think. Though you may be able to avoid a fire or a flood, what about a Trojan that remotely infects your files one by one until you can no longer access your data? You are more vulnerable than you think -- even huge international companies have their own mishaps -- so always have a backup solution in place for these inevitable situations.

5. You fail to send out a clear message.
Though you may be active on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, one of the worst things you can do to your brand is to send mixed messages about the business' ethos and affiliations. You should not "like" comments or pages because you think it will make your brand name more visible. You should think about and plan your every move. A designated marketing manager is also a great way to keep your online presence on track.

6. You fail to Google yourself.
Have you tried Googling yourself recently? Well, you should! It is common knowledge that the majority of people will use Google as their primary search engine and will type in your brand name in order to find out more about your company. By keeping on top of the highest search result hits, you can be one step ahead, and ensure that there is no embarrassing or incorrect content connected to your brand name.

7. You fail to proofread your copy.
Don't underestimate the importance of proofreading everything before you publish it. And don't think that is up to the web developer to pick up on errors. It is vital that you eliminate all typos and grammatical errors so that your text is readable and free-flowing. Not only does is it look sloppy if your website and social media posts are littered with errors, it reflects badly on the integrity of your brand too. You can improve your grammar by using a range of easily-accessible online tools and grammar guides.

8. You fail to mention others.
You now have all of your social media accounts set up and have been tweeting all week about your business -- what you do, where you operate and what special deals you have. Rein it in there. The purpose of social media is to network with others and should not be used to introduce your product or services. Try communicating with suppliers or other business in your field to build a friendly and supportive community.

9. You fail to mention what you do.
On the flip-side, you should not assume that everyone knows what your company does, especially if you have a unique name that doesn't explicitly describe the trade or nature of the business. It is important that you let your followers know what it is that you can do for them. Instead of being blunt, why not engage with your audience by saying, "Did you know that we specialize in..." Be sure to tell them what makes you stand out from other similar businesses.

10. You fail to delete dead domains.
While you were finalizing your brand name and debating between a .com, .eu and .biz, you inadvertently set up two or three domain names that you now need to maintain. Don't make the mistake of selecting one primary address and leaving the others as dead links, as this will leave prospective clients confused and potentially infuriated. Ensure you delete traces of irrelevant links or make them forward automatically to the correct domain address. Did you know that you can sell a domain back to some providers? It's worth looking into if you're certain you won't need the address in future.

11. You fail to join in the conversation.
Finally, don't shy away from online conversations. Feel free to display how you feel about certain subjects, and let people see your personality shine through. Clients love the personal touch and like to see who is behind a company. How else did Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple, become so well-known throughout the world? Interacting with others and engaging in discussions is also a brilliant way to promote your business without seeming pushy.

You may have noticed that all of the above are examples of entrepreneurs failing to do something. As the saying goes, "fail to prepare, prepare to fail." This phrase could not be more apt, particularly in the modern era that we live in. Our actions have so many long-lasting repercussions.

Any data we upload to the internet becomes a footprint, a piece of evidence that identifies you and your brand. However, unlike a real footprint that will eventually wash away, digital data cannot be completely erased. It is vital that you plan every move in order to bring your business the success it deserves.

Technology Market / 12 Things To Do Before Applying For Google Adsense + FREE Bonus Checklist by emmaprog: 8:54am On Nov 11, 2016
In this article, I’m going to share with you everything that you need to do before applying for Google AdSense program to actually get approve.

1. Write High-Quality Content:
The #1 thing you need to do before applying for Google AdSenseis to write high-quality content. This is very important thing which you can’t ignore at any cost. I mean it!
Google loves the blog who are providing high-quality content and their visitors are enjoying it. Keep in mind that your application will be reviewed by humans and you have to impress them to get approved by AdSense.
A high-quality content that is unique and original with proper headings and bullet lists, free from grammar and spelling mistakes, useful and informative.

2. Create Privacy Page for Your Blog:
One of the common mistakes that most new bloggers. Even though there are people out there who say that having a privacy policy for a blog doesn’t make sense but they are wrong!
The first thing you will need to apply for Google AdSense and get approval is the privacy policy of your blog or website. If you don’t have it you cannot get approval simple is that.
Why is it important?
It’s requirement of AdSense and secondly, this privacy policy means you are not a scam and gives the sense of a serious business. Google will check the rest of the conditions only if you have this policy.
A privacy actually describes to your readers about what they will get on your blog , what they should do and what they should not. So obviously there is nothing bad in having a privacy policy. While it can affect somehow on your AdSense approval, you must give it a try.
You can write it yourself or find Privacy Policy Generators online (You don’t need a lawyer anyway).

3. Create About Page:
Like privacy policy, you must have an about page so that you can get approved. This also shows that there is a real person behind the blog.
An About page has a major role and importance even if you don’t want to apply for AdSense. But when it comes to AdSense, they are about zero chances of getting approved if you are not showing this page.
About page simply describe you and your blog . This will not only help you establish a relationship with readers but it will also make them trust you.

4. Setup A Contact Us Page:
It’s quite obvious that everyone has his/her own opinion. What one of your readers likes may be bothering someone else. Then it is better to give them an opportunity to speak up to you and tell how they feel about your blog, what they want to be edited , what they liked or hated.
Create a contact page, if possible add your email that you are going to apply for Google AdSense. If possible do get some professional email address like developer@emmy-tech.com and your social profile links too.
By creating this you are telling Google that we care for our customers, visitors and we are ready to help them. They can contact us anytime.
It will also show the Google AdSense Team that is viewing your site that you actually care about your readers and not only the money and AdSense.

5. Verify Your Name and Email:
When you apply don’t forget to put your name and email address in some easily visible area like about and contact pages. It will confirm to Google AdSense team that it is the same person who applied for AdSense and not some spam, crappy bots.
This will speed up the verification process and within no time, you’ll be able to enjoy fully approved AdSense account.

6. Have Some Good Number Of Posts:
What should be the minimum number of posts before applying for Google AdSense? There is no confirmed answer......Not even one.
Because I have seen very established blogs with 300+ posts and their owner telling me that Google AdSense is rejecting them while somewhere bloggers with few posts or even less than 10 are enjoying making money with AdSense.
Exactly, what I said that there is no actual answer. However, we can always predict things.
According to my experience, the best time to apply for AdSense account is when you have at least 20 good quality posts. Your blog posts length should be at least 600+ words with quality content.

7. Make Sure You’re 18+
This is the mistake that new bloggers are making who are less than 18. They write incorrect age and get into trouble.
Use your correct date of birth and age while applying for Google AdSense account. Because Google AdSense is not for people who are under 18. Some people realize this problem after being disproved a few times without any legitimate reason.
So I advise you to be accurate while typing your age.

8. Improve Your Blog Design:
As mentioned earlier, you blog design matters a lot. It should be professional and not like a messy photo gallery. A clean, professional and fast-loading design is appreciated by Google. When you visit a website what’s the first thing you look for? It’s blog design.
You’ve to build a good first impression on your blog readers to engage them.
Your blog design is the biggest thing after content. This represents your expertise, experience, and professionalism. It should have following features:
[sup][/sup]Simple and professional
Easy to navigate
Proper menus
No useless items in sidebar or footer
Search engine friendly
Fast loading
So be careful because anything can kill your chances of getting approved by AdSense.

9. Check Your Content Type:
Be careful with what type of content you are publishing. Because it is something that truly matters.
Here are some common content types that are not accepted by AdSense.
Pornography/Adult materials
Pirated Content
Hacking or Cracking Tutorials
Illegal Drugs/Paraphernalia
Any Other Illegal Stuff
There are few languages that are supported by AdSense so make sure your blog language is in the list of these.

10. Use Top Level Domain:
Google has made changes to their policies. If you have a blog with and the domain is yourblog..com then chances are you will get approved quickly. But you will not be able to use that on any other domain like .com. You’ll have to submit the request to upgrade your AdSense account.
As for today, you must have your own unique domain that specifies your blog. If you don’t have one yet, stop dreaming about getting approved with sub domains and go buy a Top Level Domain. The best domain is the one with .com extension. Choose a short, unique and easy to remember domain that is related to your blog niche.

11. Remove Other Ad Networks:
If you have any other ads placed like Chitika, Infolinks, Clicksor or anything, it’s time to drop them off.
Make your blog free from ads. Even Google AdSense allows you to use other ad networks along with them, it’s better to remove the ads before applying and don’t put them back until you get a reply from AdSense team which usually takes anywhere from few days to weeks.
So, before submitting your application for Google AdSense make sure to remove all the ads on your blog from any other network.

12. Check Your Traffic Sources:
Google hates the sites that are getting paid traffic and mostly penalizes them so there is not a damn chance of getting approved by AdSense for a site that is getting paid traffic. You can bring traffic from search engines or any other way you want but if you want to earn via Google AdSense the right way, paid traffic is not a solution.
Also, note,that Google does not accept site which gets traffic from illegal sources. So focus on getting traffic from legal sources like social media, search engines, and related blogs.

6. Do You Know 247 Million People? That is the number of Americans that regularly use the Internet. Worldwide Internet usage is pushing two billion.

7. Websites Help Establish More Customers. According to the Small Business Administration, 50% of Internet sales are from new customers. Having a website significantly improves your customer reach no matter what services or products you offer.
