Fashion / What's The Correct Name For The Cloth A Lot Of People Refer To As Filtex? by Emmo: 10:38pm On Nov 08, 2008
There's a cloth commonly referred to as Filtex in Nigeria. But, Filtex is a misnomer, it only refers the name of the company that makes the cloth. I tried looking through the company web site for the cloth, but they don't show their products online, and to make things worse they carry more than one type of cloth . If anyone is familiar with the proper appellation for the cloth I'd appreciate it. It's mostly used for Men's clothing, Kaftan, Baban riga, etc.
Romance / Advice For Men: Use How Women Perceive Your Status To Your Advantage: by Emmo: 8:05pm On Jun 03, 2007
from http://www.newswagger.com

If you don’t leave with anything else from NewSwagger, the least I want you to do is to leave with a more in depth understanding of the concept of “status” and how it relates to women. Once you understand the basic concept of status everything else I write on the site will make more sense, from why I post slightly expensive items on the SwaggerGear section of the site, all the way to the importance of attracting attention to yourself in a room.

Status is important because your status or the status you convey can open or close doors for you. Sometimes men mistakenly call women gold diggers because they’re attracted to men that have more money than they do. Some women may just be attracted to men that have a higher socio-economic status than them, but in all candor there’s a very thin line between that case and being a gold digger. Women are attracted to men that have a higher status than they do, so if your physical appearance or your personality isn’t attractive to them, your status can compensate for that. Although status alone may not guarantee you success with women, it opens up opportunities for women to want to know you better.

What can you do to capitalize on this phenomenon? You can attend functions and clubs where you are sure to know a lot of people, being seen talking to a number of different people elevates your status in the eye of the observer. Women will be open to conversations with you after seeing you have been talking with many other people. They’ll feel more comfortable knowing others in the room are attracted to you, and they’ll be interested in finding out why. That’s one method of flexing your social status.

Giving women the perception that you also have a high economic status works to your advantage the same way social status does. This can be accomplished numerous ways: driving a nice car, wearing designer clothing that tends to cost a lot, or even buying a bottle of champagne in a club. By no means should you go out and be profligate with your cash if you can’t afford to, but if you can show high status the correct way without being completely overt about it, you will open up many more opportunities with women. Take look at the SwaggerGear section ( ’status’ is one of the reasons I created the section) to see a few items that may help change how people perceive your economic status.

STATUS IS POWER AND LEVERAGE.

Computers / Re: Help I Can't Charge My Laptop by Emmo: 10:05am On Jun 01, 2007
Yeah visit ebay and search for your laptop model with the word 'casing' or 'housing', it's a fairly easy job if you keep track of the screws you removed. An experienced person should be able to replace it for you in about 30 minutes. If you replace the entire casing/housing yourself and its your first time, it'll take well over an hour.
Computers / Re: My Dvd Ram Is Giving Me A Heartache, Can U Help Me by Emmo: 10:02am On Jun 01, 2007
Your problem is that you need the problem software to play the American NTSC DVDs, the problem is not your DVD RAM so don't worry about it being a hardware failure. Just get new software, try WINDVD or POWERDVD
Computers / Re: My Computer Is Always Hanging by Emmo: 9:59am On Jun 01, 2007
You probably either have a virus, but viruses usually go to work sooner than 15 minutes so I'm going to go with over exhaustion of system resources. Go to the start menu, then go to run, type 'msconfig' and press enter, go to start up and uncheck some programs that are starting up that you don't need right away to free up system resources during a reboot.

Linus responded to that saying that Microsoft doesn't want to go there because they've had many more copyrights infringements than any other software development company out there.
Computers / Re: Installing Laptops Tv Tuner by Emmo: 9:53am On Jun 01, 2007
Yeah USB TV turners can be found fairly easy, there isn't too much of a disparity between the brands. Quality for me has been just as good as internal tv tuner cards. Best brands out there to get are ATI and Hauppauge.
Computers / Re: Pls Help I Have A Problem With My Hard Disk Drive by Emmo: 9:50am On Jun 01, 2007
It depends on the type of file system you're using and what type of format you did. FAT32 partitions are easier to recover than NTFS and Linux EXT3 partitions. You won't get everything back that you deleted, you'll be lucky if you get half. It all depends on how much space you were utilizing before the format.

Plextor drives are considered the Mercedes of optical drives. Much better than liteon or LG, not saying that those aren't quality products, but there are better.
Computers / Re: How Much For Vista And Officexp? by Emmo: 9:46am On Jun 01, 2007
There are different versions of Office 2007 and Microsoft Vista that range from 100 dollars all the way to 400-600 for each. Go to microsoft's website and look at the breakdown for what each edition offers and choose which one you need accordingly. Example: for Office: Standard Edition, Student Edition, Business Edition, and Enterprise and so on, Same goes for Vista and its 4 versions.

Computers / Re: Linux or Windows Operating System? by Emmo: 9:41am On Jun 01, 2007
Only thing that's whack about Linux is that not too many household applications come out for it, and it can't be really used as a gaming machine. But, if you have a fast enough computer you can run VMWare which lets you run windows inside of Linux through virtualization. Or if you computer is slow you can run single windows applications at time without running a whole "virtualizing" the entire windows operating system.

1. If you don't need to play games, are content with learning everything linux has to offer, and don't mind using 3rd part software. Then by all means choose linux.

2. If you run a slower computer but want more "current" type software then choose linux, because it utilizes cpu resources and swap space in place of RAM better than any of the window operating systems do.

3. If you need to ask a lot of questions and lack trouble shooting acumen , then you might want to save yourself the headache and go with windows.
Computers / Re: 'CMOS Checksum Error' When Booting by Emmo: 9:32am On Jun 01, 2007
CMOS checksum error 99% of the time means your battery is dead, and needs to be replaced. The other 1% means that there could be other underlying issues such has hardware failure. Since you said you could continue booting then it's probably just the battery. It isn't doing any damage to your computer but it is rather annoying, slowing up the boot process. If you have your BIOS settings for auto detect then you should be fine, but problems may arise if you try to upgrade your computer without replacing the battery, because settings may need to be made in the bios to accommodate the new hardware.

CMOS batteries are easy to come by I just hope you have a newer motherboard that uses the coin cell battery( watch battery) and not the barrel type solder battery which is connected to the motherboard. Open up the computer and take a look see on the motherboard, but try not to touch anything.
Religion / Re: Jihad: The Sixth Deadly Pillar Of Islam by Emmo: 8:30am On Jun 01, 2007
You can't take a couple of lines out of a 114 chapter Qur'an and expect it to keep its original meaning. They're just lines taken out of context and used to drive your Anti-Muslim/Anti-Islam vehicle. Translated lines at that. When you read the the book in its entirety, in Arabic( not a copy that was translated with bias), and grasp the true meaning of the text, come back and make a post and then we can have an educated discussion.
Religion / Re: Why Does The Muslims Do Not Pray In English. by Emmo: 8:22am On Jun 01, 2007
I had not intended on replying but reading several intolerant posts galvanized my need to. First off there aren't stupid questions but there are proper ways to ask questions in order to avoid offending others.

- Secondly prayers are remembered and recited in Arabic to preserve the original meaning of the text. It is impossible to make a perfect translation from one language to another without losing meaning or the original efficacy of the text.

- I'm sure you can think of many words that exist in your native tongue that don't exist in English. In that scenario a translator usually has to come up with a less precise equivalent, which may or may not change the overall meaning and effectiveness of a message. (Example: spit or saliva in Chinese( Cantonese dialect) is translated as mouth water). Without knowing both languages, how is an individual supposed to know what mouth water is in reference to? This where you start getting into numerous issues surrounding interpretations of translated text.

- Even if you could make a perfect translation from Arabic to English, all this does is open doors for more translations. Hypothetically speaking, lets say you want to translate from Arabic to Quechua( Language of the Inca Empire/South America). There may not be someone available to do that translation, that has a high degree like a PhD in both languages( you shouldn't translate text 'especially religious text' for mass production unless you have a high degree) because speaking fluently is completely different from written fluency. So what you have here is a situation where the text has to be translated from Arabic to English then to Quechua or even Arabic to English to Spanish then to Quechua. You get a long chain of translations of translation that further pervert the original meaning of texts.
