Just did this small video to demonstrate what the sound of a hybrid electric vehicle sounds like when the engine comes on.

You sometimes get to hear this rattle noise, when the engine starts early in the mornings, or when the engine is cold.

The engine running, is normal, and the main reasons why the engine kicks in at every start-up is to warm it up, helping to reduced emissions, before the system switches efficiently to electric mode.

You could used this as a baseline comparison, if you own any hybrid vehicle.

The vehicle in the video is a 2006 RX400h.
