numericalguy: So that Islamophobic people like you can be insulting Muslims and making derogatory statements about Islam.
Why must you discuss Islam when you are not a Muslim Why should Nairaland allow you to be insulting Muslims in the guise if discussion Why must you make derogatory statements about Islam in the guise of discussion. First off I'm not islamophobic. I don't care about anyone's religion, I see you as who you are [ maybe influenced by your religion or environment] Heck I'm not even religious myself. If I want to make derogatory remarks at Muslims you think that notice will stop me or anyone who wishes ? I just see it as unnecessary on a forum |

Hi Seun, thanks for this. Here are a few things I think will make a difference to the platform and some ideas I could lay out to make more money from here to make it sustainable and pay more mods.
1. Down vote and no up vote ( take few bad eggs down or if they receive a certain number of down votes they'll be suspended from that week to post
2. I don't know if it's bbpress nairalnis running on but if it isn't and it's something you can do I'd like we have a dedicated place for news, separate from the forum. ( most or what we get in front page is not news) not like it should be cause it's just a forum to discuss topica but it could be more.
3. Transactions to the tune of 30 million or more go on here weekly and it could be tapped with some few ideas I have ( I could do a proposal for that if you interested)
4. We should have a subscription service of atleast 500 a month or 5k a year to make posts in certain topics or reply on front page and trending topics. Account creation should cost 1k on its own ( this will help reduce multiple accounts and trolls )
5.Nairaland is too big to remain this way for years. There's a lot that can be done to make this Nigerias own largest social media/ website. Various offshoots can come off Nairaland with the trust and recognition it already has.
6. Please remove that notice on Muslim threads. This is a forum, where everything is discussed. If we're to let them keep theirs it will be fair if other threads have their own governing rules from the mods.
7. Be more visible and build a physical community around Nairaland with meetups
8. Obviously we need an app, I think sometime in 2014 I was using the blackberry app of Nairaland. If the challenge is migrating user data I belive we have more than capable hands to help with this or for you to consult with. I bet it'll be a good project they will all love to be part of
9. Corpers, Nairaland can cater to some coper needs with few ideas I have. ( Nairaland will not longer just be a forum it'll be more)
10. ( this one here I'll keep to myself first as I'm already working on it for myself
11...... 12........
If you are interested in those ideas that could make more money for this platform I'll be glad to talk about it. |

I think this arguments are just repeated over and over again untill it sticks to anyone that tends to be on that side of the divide. They have stated their goal of cost cutting etc. is it a bad thing? No / will it affect some people? Yes/ But does not change the fact they are both trying to do what they think is right and they can be judged accordingly for the outcome. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Elon Musk, Our Fear Of Hard Choices: Why We’re Not Ready For Change by emmy512(op): 10:08am On Mar 13, 2025 |
Ruke1989: Oga, people are not pissed by hard decisions but pissed by the prospects of further impoverishing the already poor and further enriching the political class through such hard decisions. That's what tinubu did and that's why his hard decisions are no more welcome
Nigeria earns in dollars but pays workers in naira. Tinubu remove subsidy, approved increased electricity cost, approved increased telecommunication charges, increased excise duty, increased tax, added tollgates to some roads, added N50 tax to every bank transfer above 10,000 naira, unity schools charges increased, etc all in two years.
How did these actions amount to improved life?
For politicians: governors began to coast home with 3 x their previous allocation
Judges who did tinubus bidding were awarded 300% salary increment and houses built for them by tinubu govt. Tinubu did this to gain their loyalty incase of election crisis
Lieutenants in the army who do tinubus biddings are now entitled to 30,000USD cash upon retirement, 2 or 3;Prado Jeeps upon retirement and five domestic servants as awarded by tinubu. Their wages improved too. Tinubu is doing this to get their loyalty obviously and prevent coup if they should suffer what other citizens suffer
For the ordinary workers: there is no benefit We got N32,000 added to our salary as minimum wage in the health sector irrespective of your rank. But the govt propaganda is spilling N70,000 out there as what they paid.
For the unemployed, nothing to cushion 300% inflation triggered by tinubu himself these two years despite tinubus and the governors becoming wealthier now coasting home with 3 times more revenue than buhari's regime
Only an asslicker, tribalist and fool can defend tinubus under these circumstances or only a fool will be surprised that Nigerians are not impressed by tinubu madness while your points are all valid, do you realize this is where the issue is?? the politicians themselves and not the policies? example the things you mentioned about tinubu if he did those policies without x3 the take-home of these people you mentioned don't you think we'd have more given to the states as allocation or allocations to other ministries? That's why in one of my articles https://www.nairaland.com/8242872/when-fire-burns-why-nigeria i feel the only way to sort nigeria is a total breakdown of everything and built from the foundation up |
Foreign Affairs › Elon Musk, Our Fear Of Hard Choices: Why We’re Not Ready For Change by emmy512(op): 4:53am On Mar 13, 2025 |
Based on what I read here this evening and other related topics like this below https://www.nairaland.com/8366946/heres-how-teslas-sales-been/1I've come to the conclusion that Nigerians Are Not Ready for Real Change and Here’s Why
While reading that thread above about Tesla’s struggles and Elon Musk’s decisions, I couldn’t help but notice how many Nigerians were against him simply because he made tough calls that affected jobs and government subsidies. It got me thinking thst if a leader in Nigeria were to take the kind of hard decisions needed to fix this country, would we support them? The truth is, we wouldn’t. We say we want change, but do we really?
Look at how people on that thread were attacking Musk and trump too, not because he was corrupt or incompetent, but because he made decisions that prioritized long-term sustainability over short-term comfort. Someone even said, its he price for pursuing crazy agendas with Trump, implying that Musk should have just kept quiet and played it safe. Another person was basically saying his boldness will destroy him. But isn’t this exactly what we need in Nigeria? A leader who isn’t afraid to shake things up?Nigerians Complain About Corruption, But Hate Those Who Fight It Let’s be honest: Nigerians hate corruption, but only when they’re not benefiting from it. We see it every day. When a governor steals money, we insult him. But if that same governor shares rice or gives out so called empowerment funds, we forget everything and defend him. Remember when former CBN Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi exposed the missing $20 billion in NNPC Funds? https://saharareporters.com/2014/02/13/senate-hearing-sanusi-insists-20b-missing-okonjo-iweala-unable-prove-how-108b-was-spentWhat happened? Instead of Nigerians rallying behind him, he was removed from office. Some people even celebrated it. Even Buhari’s so called war on corruption flawed as it was faced resistance. When he tried to block unnecessary spending and arrest corrupt politicians, some Nigerians called it a "witch-hunt." But when those same corrupt politicians defected to his party, people moved on like nothing happened. Subsidy Removal: A Hard Choice Nigerians Couldn’t Accept
One of the biggest examples of this contradiction is the removal of fuel subsidies. For decades, we screamed about government waste, corruption, and inefficiency. But when Buhari and later Tinubu removed subsidies something every serious economist, myself, peter obi and most of you agreed was necessary Nigerians went wild. Yes, it made life harder in the short term. But did we expect a magic solution? The same subsidy was being used to enrich a few elites while draining trillions from our economy. Yet, when the government finally removed it, people were angry, not at those who looted us for years, but at the leaders trying to fix it. Someone on here at one time on a topic even said, “They just want to make us suffer. What is government for if not to provide subsidies?” But how can a government provide anything when it's broke? We Want Change, But We Don’t Want To Pay The Price
This same pattern repeats itself over and over. Look at the Oronsaye Report, which suggested merging and scrapping unnecessary government agencies to save trillions. It’s been sitting on the shelf since 2012. Why? Because implementing it means some people will lose their unnecessary jobs, even though those jobs are costing the country billions. Or look at the backlash against Dangote’s refinery. Nigerians were begging for a private refinery for years, complaining that government refineries were scams. Now that Dangote has built one, some are attacking him, calling it a monopoly. So what do we really want? We want better roads but don’t want toll gates. We want a working economy but don’t want the naira to float. We want a corruption-free Nigeria but don’t want corrupt politicians arrested if they’re from our tribe or religion. The Truth Is: We Are Not Readythis article may annoy some people, but the truth is bitter. If we ever get a leader who truly wants to fix Nigeria, that person will have to make brutal decisions which includes cutting costs, removing waste, stepping on powerful toes like Elon is doing right now with Trump. And when that happens, the same Nigerians shouting "We want change" will be the ones leading protests against him. So let’s ask ourselves: Do we really want Nigeria to be better? Or do we just want leaders who will keep feeding us lies while doing nothing? Because right now, it seems we only support "change" as long as it doesn’t inconvenience us. Footnote As for me the only people I see taking such decisions are people that are not career politicians, just regular people. I had hopes for Buhari, I would argue with my people that he was a military man, he'll fight corruption turns out corruption fought back or he didn't fight at all. Right now my bet is on Sowore. We don't need too much. Just one person to break the status quo for our current politicians and take am out of politics |

Politics › Re: This Poster Of Nigeria Is Now Circulating On Trains And Buses In London by emmy512(m): 8:28am On Mar 12, 2025 |
DemonSlayer: No be Gadus be that?
At first glance, if you're anything like me and my brothers on this thread, you might assume this poster is just another scam designed to stir emotion and guilt-trip unsuspecting oyinbo people into donating their hard-earned pounds.
But if you're also like me, you'd take a closer look—examine the fine print, the format, the messaging. And that’s when you’ll notice something interesting: the mention of debt. So, what’s the connection?
Here it is: Nigeria’s debt burden has skyrocketed in recent years. In the 2024 budget, over 50% of government revenue was allocated to debt servicing, while education received less than 10%. The more our debt grows, the larger the share of revenue required to service it, leaving even less for critical sectors like education, which means more out of school children and a worsen educational system.
A portion of Nigeria’s foreign debt comes from UK commercial banks, the probable lenders referred to in the poster, who charge high interest rates. Now, take another look at the poster—it includes a petition link and a QR code. The call to action? Sign a petition for debt cancellation. On the surface, that doesn’t sound like a bad idea.
But here’s the real issue: corruption. A significant portion of Nigeria’s foreign loans is stolen or mismanaged through a corrupt system. So, the critical question isn’t just whether debt cancellation would free up funds for education. It’s whether it would actually lead to greater investment in education—or simply enable a corrupt government to secure even more loans, only for the funds to disappear again.
So, oyinbo before rushing to sign that petition, ask yourselves: Does debt relief solve the root problem, or does it just reset the cycle? You get it. That missing was used to catch their attention and make them read more. But some nairaland people don't like reading to comprehend |
