Jarus: Last week, I had a meeting at Ikoyi Club, with Director - Africa of a top platform, who's a UK-based Nigerian on 2-week market research visit to Nigeria.

DURING our discussions which bordered on penetrating local markets in Nigeria, our discussion spiraled to Nairaland and I told him I was very active on NL and in fact cut my internet teeth on NL. He told me he's been researching NL for 6 years! That the owner is elusive. I said I will try to introduce him to him, but doubt they would be able to meet offline - the option the guy preferred.

No one is asking Seun to be ubiquitous, but I still think he needs to show up in the public once in a while. For example, he was invited to Aso Rock as one of the "Top 100 Nigerian Youths" selected by The Future Awards organisers. He didn't show up.

I'm sure he gets interview invites from TV and Radio stations from time to time, he's never been on any to discuss the success of his startup.

I think Seun needs a corporate face.
You're not kidding me. Seun is this true?

Politics › ABU Don Caught In Female Hostel by EmoBoy(op): 11:35am On Sep 17, 2014
A lecturer at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria was apprehended Sunday night at a private female hostel in Samaru, Zaria.
Daily Trust gathered yesterday that the lecturer disguised by wearing Hijab (veil) and attempted to sneak into the hostel before he was intercepted.
A witness, Khalifa Sha’aibu, alleged that, that was not the first time the lecturer was entering the hostel to visit his girl friend.
Sha’aibu added: “The most annoying thing is the fact that the man used Hijab. As a Muslim, I feel sad that somebody would use something that women of faith are known with to perpetrate crime. I wonder why the man would not get a hotel room to perpetrate his immoral act. It was a vigilante member that noticed the structure of the man and exposed him. After he was caught, we discovered that he has been entering the hostel with the consent of the girl. The owner of the private hostel had barred men from entering the rooms.”
It was further gathered that the lecturer was handed over to a team of army personnel that are manning a check point close to the university.
Daily Trust also gathered that the officers ransacked the lecturer’s house.
When contacted, Director of Public Affairs in the university, Dr. Ismail Shehu, said he heard something like that but that no official report has been made.
He added that when an official report is received, the university will take action.
“As you know, ABU does not tolerate indiscipline. Investigation would be carried out and both the lecturer and student would be punished accordingly. There is no doubt about that,” he said.

Ayed44: Meanwhile, former governor of Borno State,
Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, could not hold back
tears for the love residents of Maiduguri, the
Borno State capital, showed him as he was
received by thousands of people at the
Maiduguri International Airport, during his visit
to condole with the Kashim Imam’s family.
Sheriff, who arrived in the country on Sunday
and left Abuja for Maiduguri on Monday, could
not but shed tears when he saw the crowd that
came to welcome him.
Alhaji Goni Rawa, a member of the All
Progressives Congress (APC), told the Nigerian
Tribune that “Sheriff is the father of Borno
politics, whether anyone likes it or not,” adding,
“we have come to welcome our son, a leader of
Borno politics. We are all his students, because
we passed through his political classes.”

Politics in Nigeria is nothing but a joke. In short, Nigeria is a big joke. These are the same APC members that want Sheriff crucified over his alleged sponsorship of Boko Haram.

kaboninc: Nairaland doesn't suc.k...at least for now. Just some users do!

This says a lot about the kind of youth we have today. We shy away from informative and educating topics as this. It pains me when I can't find passionate, real, exciting and challenging guys crushing a topic. Instead some of us are 'struggling' for front page!

I think Seun should divide this forum into: a kiddies forum, a frontpageonly forum, the insult and assault forum, the tribal forum and then the real forum!
Personally, I like to chase opportunities and train my eyes to see one. I think the government should try mapping out processes that will lead to the complete liberalisation of the power industry while also strengthening the regulatory agency. In Nigeria of today, with current realities and past experience, government indeed has no business doing business!

Take a look at the communications industry, NCC has no mast, no base station, no licence, nothing but today. There's a marked improvement in quality of services. So long as government owns a venture, its bound to be riddled with corruption.

I'll also say that there has been an improvement in the average power daily distribution to homes and offices.
This website is such a joke. It subtly reveals the level of unseriousness and ignorance that pervades the nigerian youth. The politics section that should be a venue where people discuss serious developmental and socio-political issues has been turned to a tribal bed. It shows that Nigeria doesn't have a bright future.

The federal government has already put in a proper regulatory and institutional framework for the power sector. It is left for the private sector to their own bit. Of the three sub-sectors of the power sector, the federal government has already liberalised the generation and distribution sub-sectors leaving the transmission sub-sector to the federal government for full control and management.

The government is now willing and ready to liberalise the transmission sector. This seems to be the most reasonable to do since like you said, government has no business managing business. But I doubt it would be an easy task. It is very difficult to find private investments in developing countries around the world and I doubt nigeria will be able to pull this one through.

We hope for the best anyway and salute the courage of the president for his resilience in ensuring that we achieve constant power generation and supply in the country.

Cheers
Culture › Re: What You May Not Know About Americans by EmoBoy(m): 9:46pm On Sep 15, 2014
Sweetlemon: Of course there is high level of immorality in US! Very high.

But at the end of the day, their men still seek decent girls to marry. That's what I'm trying to say.

How many 20 smth year old virgins can you count in Nigeria? But there are many of them in the US. Trust me. You find the baddest biitches and the most innocent angels in America.
But madam, if there's a high level of immorality, then there will be definitely be a low number of available virgins. Don't you think so?
Culture › Re: What You May Not Know About Americans by EmoBoy(m): 9:38pm On Sep 15, 2014
Let me me tell you a fact.

90 percent of the pornogràphy the world watches comes from america.

That shows a lot about the level of morality in the society.

I'm outta here...

Sweetlemon: @Emoboy, seems like you don't know the difference between percentage and number.

smh
Madam, It doesn't matter. What matters is that your views about america are totally borne out of gross ignorance.
Culture › Re: What You May Not Know About Americans by EmoBoy(m): 9:32pm On Sep 15, 2014
seedord247: Lies... Americans don't value that shit called virginity, They dont even wanna have anything to do with a virgin cuz most sucks when it comes to sex life and sex play a major role in Americans relationship. More also. 65% of americans gurls lost their pumpum before the age of 15 which is very rear in Nigeria.

I wonder where she pulled her stats from. I seriously wonder.
Culture › Re: What You May Not Know About Americans by EmoBoy(m): 9:26pm On Sep 15, 2014
Sweetlemon: Yeah we all think America is a liberated, free country for all. But what we do not know is that to some extent, there are things that Americans still practice despite all the feminism and human rights movements, some even outdated.

1. Ain't Nothing Like Gender Equality: Yes there are a few superwomen here and there. Beyonce there, Oprah Winfrey there, female supreme court judges, etc. But there is a line drawn somewhere. Do you know that there are still many jobs that pay men more than women for doing exactly the same thing? Business policies are more male-tailored, also the percentage of female CEOs of top companies in Nigeria for instance is far more than that of the US. That's why they have so many laws protecting women to make up for this.
Also, it will be easier for a female president to come out from Nigeria than US (black or white) Let's bet this. Hilary Clinton fans take note of this.
What makes Beyonce a superwoman? undecided She shakes her àss and what next?

I believe you have another notion of what gender equality is. I think most people do anyway. I'll like to get know what statistics or data you used to reach your conclusion that there are more female corporate executives in Nigeria than there are in the US.

Honestly dear> Believe me if I tell you that you're very wrong about that. There are far more female executives in the United States than anywhere else.

Sweetlemon: 2. They Actually Have a Deep Rooted Culture; Thanksgiving and 4th of July are traditions that will remain till thy kingdom comes and they follow it religiously. They also have certain kinds of music, food, and ways of partying that are strictly American. Apart from their atheists, they collectively say grace at the table during every family meal. They also have a tradition they observe in the weddings. Their weddings are more like trad and white rolled into one.
I can't help but laugh dear. cheesy cheesy Although this is not news or anything secret, there's generally nothing interesting here.

Sweetlemon: 3. There Are Probably More Percentage Of Housewives In The US Than In Nigeria (minus rural settings); Go to high brow areas like Bel-air where there are wives of successful lawyers and and surgeons doing nothing all than taking care the kids and going shopping. Not just high brow but almost all classes of people. There are more and more housewives choosing to stay back and take care of the home. Some work from the house though.
Another fallacy. Don't ask me how or why.

Sweetlemon: 4. There Are Lots Of Gold Diggers; This is for the "Nigerian girls and money" criers. American and Russian babes no dey carry last in the area of god digging. Marrying an American woman is like getting ready to loose more than half your wealth because in case of a divorce, the courts will give her most of your wealth which you will have to work hard to replenish. Sometimes it"s worse if she already has her own money, she will make sure she gets a good lawyer to squeeze you dry. But American billionaires have ways of making new money so they are coping. Lol. Do you know there are many, many young even middle aged attractive women with the sole aim of marrying wealthy men?
Who doesn't know this?

Sweetlemon: 5. Straight Guys Hate Gay Guys; With a passion! Go to American sites and blogs and see anonymous comments from straight guys about gay men. You will coil! Words like "gay asss" or "gay" are used to ridicule them codedly. Gays can NEVER have equal rights in America. Politicians just use them to score points. They all know that homosexuals cannot actually live like and get all the benefits of straight people in all American states.
Have you ever been to Boston? Gays have more rights than heterosexuals there. check it out yourself
http://massresistance.org/

Sweetlemon: 6. An American Guy Will Choose A Virgin Over A LovePeddler As Wife; Unless, of course love comes in, contrary to what people think that American men don't care about morality in their women, they will pick an inexperienced girl over a LovePeddler any time any day. Not like they are looking for virgins, but they need and crave decent women. If you don't believe me, watch BAGGAGE on Dstv 127 almost every evening. Also visit American blogs and forums. Yes the Average American guy can't resist some one night stands here and there but he can't marry her. Yes they can have baby mamas and even live with them, but they don't marry them.
Men around the world will pick a virgin over a LovePeddler. It is natural and its the standard behaviour of men. This has nothing to do with american men

Sweetlemon: 7. There Are Actually More Percentage of Virgins In America Than In Most Countries In Africa; Some of them are the miss-goody-two-shoes, no makeup, no fancy dresses types while some are the party girl types. They chose to remain virgins not for religious reasons or because they are good girls but because they chose to preserve it for that special man, or to auction it off! Lol! Is it not oyibos that auction that virginity? Some as old as 26 years old!
Which america are you talking about? LMAO grin grin Virgins in america than in Nigeria? That is preposterous!

Abeg I no wan laugh.

Sweetlemon: 8. American Guys Go To Meet Their Girlfriend's Families Long Before Nigerian Guys Are Ready For Such; They are also old-fashioned when it comes to serious relationships. Opening car doors, taking you out on several dates, and even meeting your folks before taking you to his house or asking you to come to his. Unlike our Nigerian niggas who get your number today and the next thing they are asking when you will come to see them!

9. Most American Grandmas Are Just As Prim And Proper As Ours; They take care of grandkids and give all the advice and lectures and are just as protective and desirous of grandkids as our own grandmothers.

If you doubt any of these, do some research.
This is soooooo funny! I don't know if its the Lagos branch of America you're talking about or there's somewhere else. grin You need to be given an american visa. Just visit america in three months and see things yourself.

Good development. Nigeria will now join the league of other nations who boast of a fully liberalized power sector. (Like Canada and India)

Our transmission infrastructure is in shambles and this has caused a major setback to the development of power sector.

Independent transmission is the way go.
Politics › What Will A Buhari Presidency Offer Nigerians? by EmoBoy(op):
General Muhammad Buhari, typically called the people's general by his teeming supporters was a former Nigerian ruler in the 80s. His regime has been touted as the most disciplined and least corrupt of all administrations ever at the federal level.

This feat has drawn him closer to so many nigerians who are eager to see him return at the helm of affairs. They see him as the messiah who due to his pedigree and strong antecedents, seem to be the strongest and most willing candidate to wipe out the malaise of corruption from the nigerian society that is believed to have held back our economic and social progress.

General Buhari has equally contested for the office of the executive president of the federal republic of Nigeria for a record three times, all three attempts being unsuccessful for him and his supporters.

The fifth general elections of the fourth republic will commence in less than six months and tongues are wagging that the people's general is seeking for a last chance show his worth to the nigerian public. He has to contend with other seemingly credible candidates to achieve this feat.

The question is:
Why should we give the general the mandate to lead nigeria for four years?
What does he have to offer?
What are his weaknesses and strengths?
Does he have what it takes to steer nigeria to greater greatness?

Over to you Buhari Supporters.

I hate when people bring up these annoying feminist sentiments all the time and I hate feminist arguments. It is always one sided and full of emotions rather than acute reasoning and logic.

Besides, most of the issues the writer tried to raise are not peculiar to Nigeria alone but a general or perhaps a global issue.

The writer is just jobless and is desperately seeking attention from his emotion laden and sentimental public.

CFCfan: They're only the ones being bandied about in the media and social media.

Anyway, I find it bizarre that INEC's guidelines allowed Presidential candidates only 3 months of campaigning before the general election.
In the US, politicians start their campaigns 13-14 months before the general election, and 6 months before the start of the primaries/caucuses.
Even at that, these guys are a part and parcel of the current political rot that is leaving the country in a wreck. They have nothing positive to offer Nigerians and Yes, even Fashola.

As per the INEC rule, The political climate over here is usually quite unstable during election periods hence the regulation. In the future, the policy may be abandoned as the democratic processes become more strengthened and progressive.
