*****Khalifa watched his dad getting ready.It was the day they had agreed to meet with Mrs Stella.
"Dad do you have to look handsome before going ?" Khalifa teased at his dad.

"Son Its been years since I saw her, I need to look good."He replied.
"That woman must have meant so much to you dad" Khalifa continued.

"My son, some things are better left unsaid" Gerald replied while adjusting his trouser.

"Take care of the place before I return and make sure you eat OK ?. Let me go today and maybe next time I will take you along." Mr Gerald told his son before banging out of the door.

Khalifa looked around the room and all was quiet. He needed to receive some air and get the boredom out of him. He waited for an hour before going out too.

Mrs Stella had been waiting for thirty minutes and was getting tired of waiting. She was just about leaving when she heard a voice behind her.
"Ste.....LA, sorry for keeping your fragile body waiting. I hope you haven't developed fever yet ?" He mocked her.

"Gerald go ahead and tell me what you need from me am in a hurry please." She said in fear.

"Hmmm why asking me as if you don't know what I want....I need my property back. It is mine and it shouldn't be like you are giving me". He screamed at her ears.

"Please Gerald don't do this to me. My husband will kill me if he finds out I have been lying to him all this while. Please I will do anything but not this" She begged.

"Anything ? alright here is my account number..By tommorow, I want to be a millionaire. I want you to load my account with two million for a start".He said handling a piece of paper to her.

"For a start ? please Gerald. I will give you this and you will not disturb me again." Stella said.

"I will think about that " He said walking around her."I can't believe you didn't lost your beauty after twenty years" He continued.

"I have to go now Gerald" She said leaving the scary environment.
"How about a kiss" He gestured his mouth to that of kissing but Stella had gone.

"Am just starting Stella. I will make sure I destroy all your happiness till you forget what it means to be happy. " He gave out a wicked smile.


*****Khalifa who had left the apartment dressed like one of the rich kids was walking on the way through Diamond Bank PLC. He saw a parked car beside the road and walking closer, he realised the owner of the car was there.

"What happen sir" Khalifa asked.

"My car just developed a problem" Mr Alex replied.

Khalifa fixed the car without much waste of time and made to live.

"What's your name ? and whose son are you ?" Mr Alex asked.
"My name is khalifa Kroos" He lied

"Kroos ? are you in any way related to Chief Kroos Adam ?" He asked in anxiety.

"You are right sir. Am his third son " Khalifa said.

"This is my card, call me anytime you are free. We need to talk something out. By the way are you married ?" Alex asked.

"Single sir" he answered.

Alex nodded and entered his car before zooming off. He reached to a point and stopped.
"Khalifa Kroos ? This is a very good chance for my daughter. The boy is handsome so I guess she won't have any reason not to fall for him. " He said to himself before continuing with his journey.

"Young man calm down" the doctor said to Edward "Your mum suffered a heart attack as a result of emotional trauma. She was previously diagnosed of B.P and warned not to stress her mind in thinking too much but it seems she neglected all warnings. Please ensure that she doesn't get worked up and don't talk about issues that could traumatise her" He continued with a strick warning.
Edward had been at the hospital where his mum was taken to is since morning, he had not eaten anything. He didn't thought about food as his mother's health was his main worry.
"Why did I do this to mum ? I should have asked her in a soft and low tone rather. What if she doesn't make it ? I will never forgive myself should anything happen to mum".Edward thought. He couldn't stop blaming himself for his mother's heart attack. She was strong and okay before he charged at her.

Edward was all alone in the hospital, he didn't had any relatives to help him care for his mum while she was sick. He thought of how to pay for the hospital bills but didn't seem to get a way.
He called Sharon again to know if she was close to arriving but the call was not picked. He tried several times but didn't got any answer and so he concluded that she might be driving with the intention of calling later.

Sharon went out to stroll around the garden so she could ease the pains and thoughts that her dad was putting her through. She suddenly remembered that she had left her phone in sitting room and ran to get it before someone calls. She was half way into the room when she heard her dad talking to someone on the phone.

"So you are the gold digger that have been pestering around my daughter ? For your information, she doesn't wants to talk to you anymore. She has found someone more reputable and honourable who can take care of her. if I am you, I will go for someone of my status instead of wasting my time on someone that does not know I exist" Her had said to the person on the phone.
Going by what she heard, she had no doubt that it was Edward.
"_Dad what's the meaning of that ? When did my phone became yours ? Dad this is getting too much and am beginning to get tired of this your new attitude oo. Give me my phone" She screamed at her father with disappointed face stretching her hand to collect her phone from Mr Alex.

"Unless you get back to your senses, I won't return your phone to you. It will remain switched off for as long as you remain stubborn and refuse to realise the favour am doing" He shouted at her and went straight out to his car.
"I am sick and tired of this rubbish. Can't I have a free life just because of some family name and whatsoever ?" She threw herself on the sofa and bursted into tears.

Her mum who just woke up from sleep came and met her crying uncontrollably.
"My princess what happen to you ? why are you like that",She asked her daughter with a very concerned look.

Sharon narrated everything that transpired to her mum amidst tears and sobs.
"Alex is becoming something else, what's his business with who you should see or shouldn't see ?. Noo this is too much" She shouted in anger.
"My daughter don't worry I will find out a way for you to go and see your friend okay ? as for your dad I will take care of him" She said in a low tone.
Sharon nodded and hugged her mum whispering "thank you" in a shaky and cracky low voice.


*****Edward had been crying uncontrollably since the call with Sharon's dad. He didn't knew what to do anymore. Sharon was his only hope but as the situation was, she had betrayed him.
"Sharon why ? why.....I am finished " He was disappointed at the betrayal. He totally believed what he heard on the phone without any doubt. He thought she would have called him if it wasn't true. Her number was switched off. He looked at his unconscious mum and bursted into another set of tears.

He sat at the shade provided by the mango tree at the front of the house facing the road. He saw people passing to the field but didn't bother asking. Later, they trooped back in their numbers and that left Edward wondering where they went. He was still there when one if his village childhood friend was also passing. He saw it as the right opportunity to ask.
"Frank what's up" He greeted
"Guy am fine, just coming back from a village meeting, why didn't you show up ?" He asked.
Edward felt uneasy but decided to cover up" I wasn't aware".
They shook hands and Frank left.
Edward went straight to his mum who was sitting at the door post.
"Mum am fed up,why don't you just tell me why ? am grown up and strong enough to handle the truth" He said with disappointment.
Elizabeth (his mum) was startled and shocked. She didn't saw it coming.
"What are you talking about son ? what truth are you referring to" She asked.
"Mum stop pretending and tell me where we come from. You think I do not notice how we are left out of every thing that they do in this community ? why don't we attend meetings ? why are we at the outskirt of the community ?. Mum you have to talk to me now.",Edwarwd charged.
Elizabeth was getting scared of her sons behaviour. He had never behaved that way towards her. "My son, I have told you everything. Your father is dead and I have shown you his grave. His name is George...."

"Mum spare me that cock and bull story, I have heard that years ago. If my father is dead, then were is our extended family ? are they also dead ? . Are we the only family without a father or husband ? why then are other families with dead husbands and fathers attending community meetings. Mum you have to speak now before I leave your hou...",.

Edward didn't completed his statement before his mumu collapsed. He rushed to her before she completely reached the ground.


*****Sharon received a call from Edward telling her about his mum's situation. She was shocked on hearing the news and didn't waste anytime before getting ready to visit him.
She went to her dad to get the key to one of the cars at the garage.
"Dad I need to go visit my friend whose mother is sick and I need one of the keys to the cars." She said.

"who is that friend of yours and doesn't he have a name?" Alex asked.

"His name is Edward George" She said.

"I don't recall hearing of that name "Geroge" or reading about it. Are you sure he is of your status ?" Alex asked getting worked up.

"Dad you must know every friend I have must you ?, Ok Edward is not from one of the big families here but he is a very caring friend and I like him like that. Besides, one must not be of the same status with me before being my friend" Sharon said with confidence.

"You were not brought up to mingle with every dog in the street, you are precious and should be seen with people that deserve your company. For your information you are going nowhere and don't try me" He said with a finality tone.
"Dad this is not fair. Can't I be free to choose my friends ? dad..." She burst into tears and ran back to her room. She brushed at her mun who was coming out of the room due to the screams she heard from outside.

"Alex what have you said to her ? " She asked on getting to her husband who was had continued with reading the newspaper he had dropped earlier.

"Woman you need to teach that daughter of yours some sense of honour. She needs to know that she is from a very respected family and shouldn't put the name of this family to shame" He said still holding the papers.

"That is not the answer to my question. What happened Alex ?" Mrs Alex charged at her husband.

"OK fine that daughter of yours wanted to go out to visit her so-called friend whose family I haven't even heard about. Can you imagine."

__Mr Gerald and his son Khalifa made all necessary preparations and left for their mission to Kafanchan. They made sure they took as many things they could in order not to have any problem and concentrate in their mission.
They landed at Kafanchan by 6:00pm. Gerald was not new with the environment because he had stayed their all through his teenage years and attended High School there.
They rented a room in Unity Wonderland one of the best hotels at Kafanchan. Khalifa led the way with the bag full of only God knows what and his dad followed suit as they constantly stared at the top of every door for room 24.
They finally saw the room and Khalifa pushed the door open. They went inside and Khalifa who was already exhausted sat on the bed watching his dad who seemed to be in a deep thought.
"Am back Stella. If you thought you will betray me and get away with it then you were mistaking. You have stepped on the vipers tail and won't escape from its venom. Your happiness has just reached its end. I guess after am done with you, you won't dream of betraying Someone in your remaining miserable life. " Gerard remarked as if Stella was listening. He gave out a wicked smile before resting himself on the bed.
"Dad are you sure about this ?" Khalifa asked his dad getting scared.
"Don't be afraid son. This is the only way to get us out of our difficult lives. We wouldn't be like this if not for that witch Stella and she must pay dearly."He said with a clenched fist.
Khalifa nodded and heaved a sigh of relieve. He needed the money and would do anything to get it.
"We are not waisting anytime son. its time to begin" Gerald said while bringing out his phone.

___NICOLAS' FAMILY___

Mrs Nicolas (Stella) rushed out from the car to get her her car keys which she had left in the room. Bella was waiting anxiously because they were already late for the meeting they were attending. "Mum hurry we are getting late" she screamed at her mum who was almost entering the door.
Mrs Nicolas' phone rang just when she got into the sitting room. She didn't wanted to pick at first but since it was an unknown caller she decided to pick.

"Hello my dear Stella. How are you" The caller said.

"Please who are you ? and how did you know my name" She asked getting worked up.

"Its a shame you have forgotten me so soon. Any way I am not surprised because that's what you are good at--forgetting people who would never forget you" the caller said.
Stella's heart began to pound so fast and loud that one could here from a mile away."Gerald ?" She manage to say.

"Did you thought I will just give up without a fight ?, you are insane to think that way. Any way am back to take what rightfully belongs to me. Hahaha" He gave her a wicked laugh.
"Don't do this to me Gerald. I don't want any problem with my husband. Tell me whatever you want and I will do but don't ever try to destroy my home pls I beg of you"She said amidst tears.
"I will give you the address of where to meet with me and don't you ever try anything stupid because if you do, my son will complete what I have started". He said in a very serious and scary tone.

Stella stood at the sitting room with tears Rollin down her cheeks. Her worst fears were beginning to manifest. She will have to play along with Gerald to keep her family together.
Bella who was already tired and wondering why it was taking her mum so much to go out, decided to check on her.She walked closer to her mum who was facing the other direction and didn't was in so much thoughts that she didn't heard her coming.
"No I won't allow anyone destroy the happiness I have with my family" Bella had heard her mother whisper.

"Mum , who wants to destroy your family" Bella said.

Her mum was startled by Bella's voice and quickly wiped her tears before turning to Bella.
"Mum you are crying ? what's wrong ?, please talk to me mummy" Bella pressed.

"My daughter its not what you think OK ? My friend is having issues with her family and I can't help but feel pity for her. Trust me this has nothing to do with us" she lied.
"mum, I hope you are saying the truth. please if you have any problem, you shouldn't hesitate to tell dad or me because we are your family and will stand by you." She said hugging her mum tightly.
Mrs Nicolas was quiet throughout their way to the meeting and even during the meeting. The call she had received had destroyed all her happiness.

___BELLA'S HOME__(The Nicolas Family)

No one expects something less than a princess's welcome for Bella. All the maids in the house were jubilating because at least they will eat and be satisfied that day unlike other days when they are underfed by the instructions of Madam Stella (_Bella's mum).
They work at Chief Nicolas' house but were still facing difficulties of poor salary and the likes. madam Stella has been very cruel towards them and all these she did without Nicolas' knowledge. He had always gave her enough money to pay the maids and the gate man fairly but she she would take fifty percent out of it and will give them only fifty percent of their hundred percent supposed salary.

After the Bella's welcome party, she was very excited and happy that she will spend some time with her family. Her dad was also happy that his only daughter was back to be with them for months.
But the excitement was not complete as her mum didn't look very happy as supposed. Bella just noticed that her mum was losing weight and carried a weary face since she returned. Despite all the good things she enjoys, her face and body didn't responded to it.
"Mummy are you alright ?," Bella had asked her mum one night at the dinning for supper.

"My daughter am fine, mummy is okay you don't have to worry yourself OK ?" she replied with a pretended smile to convince her daughter she was fine.

"Mummy you don't look okay, since my return, you have not been your normal self. Don't you want me at home ?" Bella asked more worried now.

"Don't say that my sweetheart. I ve always wanted you to be with us. Am just having little fever but not to worry mummy will be fine." Mrs Stella said

"My daughter your mum has been like that for the past three years. I guessed people change as age creeps in. so you don't have to think about it as a problem okay ? cheer up." He said patting her.
Bella was still not convinced but just nodded reluctantly in agreement to her father. She decided to let the sleeping dog lie.

_____AT KHALIFA'S HOME (Gerald's Family)

Khalifa had squandered all the money he extorted from Bella and had returned home to his poor family. He was broke and wished school resumes fast so he could go back to his fake luxurious life. He was waiting for his dad's return so that they could do the man talk he had said they will do.

"My son I summon you here to tell you some confidential matters that could bring us out of this hard life we ve been going through. I have waited for you to grow into a man before I tell you this and I think you are due now."

Khalifa adjusted himself on the log of wood he sat on. His hummones were stiring up now that he had about money.
His dad told him everything and he smiled. That wss a perfect opportunity to get them out of their hard life.
"Mrs Stella Nicolas watch out for me and my daddy. " He gave out a wicked smile.

Hakeem didn't had much to be talked about. He was welcomed as usual by his family. They were happy he was finally home to take care of the home and Harry his brother since they (his parents) were always out.

___EDWARD'S HOME___(George's Family)

He got home with anxiety to see his mum. He was really about her especially because of her attitudes lately. He doesn't want her to be worried about anything due to her health. She had previously being diagnosed of high blood pressure and too much thoughts won't be good for her.
His mum was looking alright when he returned. He was excited seeing her the way she was. She seemed to be okay but he couldn't tell if she was faking it to prevent scolds from him or she meant it. He was welcomed as the one and only man of the house as usual.

Chapter Seven

Time hurriedly passed. Days quickly turned to weeks and weeks to months.
Examinations had come and gone and the friends have vacated to their respective homes. They had stayed a week in school after the exams to enjoy each other's company and love. The holiday will last for two months before they proceed with their T.P and I.T. which will last for another three months. They will spend five months at home altogether before resuming so they needed to spend time in each other's arms.

They had left on same day as usual to join their families. They were all happy because they finally found love and true happiness.
They thought their returned to their families will add up to their new found happiness little did they knew that they it was another phase of their lives that needed strength and strong will to go through.


___AT SHARON'S HOME (The Alexander's Family)

Sharon got home very happy and full of excitement. Although she will miss Edward a great deal but didn't allowed that stop her from being happy about reuniting with her family.

Her dad was the most happiest about her returned. He was a very loving and caring dad to her. He made sure she lacked nothing all through her teenage years. He did all that because he wants her to grow up and attract wealthy and responsible suitors from the best families in the state. "My sunshine has grown into a princess with charming eyes and inviting figure. My dear am proud of you. Now any man that will want your hands in marriage will know better than not spending his last penny for your bride price." Mr Alex bragged one night at the dinning table.

"There you go again Alex. You are so fond of this daughter of yours. She is beautiful that's a fact but you don't have to keep emphasising about it every time. "
Mrs Vera(Sharon's mum) cautioned. She has been a very loving and caring mother to Sharon and made sure she grow up as a decent and disciplined young woman. unlike her dad, she never spare the rod whenever Sharon trespassed. She cautions Alex's over behaviour towards the girl. All thanks to her Sharon grew up to be the gentle lady she was.

"Dad don't worry, I thank you and mum for the kind of love you shower on me I won't disappoint you. When the time comes I shall bring to you the man I love and I know you will support me just like you ve always done." Sharon said to her parents.

"You ve found him already ?" her mum asked with anxiety.

"Whose son is he ? from which family ?" Alex asked before Sharon answered her mum.

"Alex....." Mrs vera cautioned with a stern look.

"Let me hear the good news woman, I know my daughter and the kind of men that will be after her so just be quiet and let her put some smiles on our anxious faces.
"Dad I didn't say I have found him." Sharon replied with a different countenance and disappointment at her dad. She decided to keep her affair with Edward a secret for the meant time to avoid scolds and any form of disappointment with her daddy.
"Its okay my baby, when you find him, don't hesistate to let us know" Her mum patted her at the back.

Sharon excused herself from their presence. she went straight to her room and began to think of her fathers expectations on her.

"You don't have to tell your daughter the kind of men she should be with. She is grown up and intelligent to make choices about her personal life" Vera cautioned.

"My love, I have given her so much and don't expect anything less from her. She has to bring to us a man from a very good background " He said with authority.
The couples gisted about many subjects before retiring to their room. They are very lovely together, they had never quarrelled since they got married. They behaved like teenage lovers even now that they were getting old.
